The point is not the amount of shortcuts but how the levels focus a ton on verticality and interconnectivity. Many of the locations in act 1 and 3 for example are stuff you can view from a distance and Act 1 especially are 4 biomes/locations stacked upon each other. For me, it's one-handed + magic. It's not the coolest weapon out there, but IMO it's the most versatile.

They’re all pretty badass when you get a feel for them and start exploring the different discipline skills, but starting with any of them can be kind of rough. Spears especially have a turbo shit start but become absolutely insane once you get the hang of it.

Overall, though, the 1-handed swords are my favorite and I think at the end of the day they are by far the strongest weapons in the game.
