Where the fuck am i going?
>>
>>739079735
Up, down, all around
>>
>>739079735
You literally have a map
>>
Actually finding a place isn't too hard. The problem is doing it in a reasonable timeframe. Navigating Vivec without levitation/jump is so damn slow.
>>
>>739079735
try reaching that floating rock. specifically jumping. you'll eventually level up you acrobatics enough to reach it.
>>
Vivec is outright the worst city in a video game. I love Morrowind but it's the truth. Getting anywhere in that city is cancer and the opposite of comfy. It feels really unnatural how there's nobody outside of the cantons.
>>
>>739080965
I wonder how much better it would feel if it was completely open without multiple loading zones
>>
>>739081326
That'd be beyond what the engine and 'puters of the time could have handled, but if it had been like that AND had people outside of the cantons AND the connections and bridges were improved, it could've been kino. But it also would've been an entirely different city and game at this point.

>ah finally found the mages guild
>fuck off were closed
>mfw
>>
>>739080965
It does suck and because every pylon or whatever comprising it looks identical it isn't even visually impressive. It's just several brown pyramids or whatever sticking out of the ground.
>>
>>739081326
The main problem is the arrangement of cantons. I constantly have to open the map to remind myself of where each one is located. The only memorable cantons are the foreign quarter and temple. The rest may as well be random.
>>
>>739079735
To hell, for playing games with witchcraft and black arts
>>
>>739079735
Anywhere you want.

>>739080965
Vivec is the best, not because it's convenient but because it's fascinating.
>>
>>739081713
What the fuck there's only like 6 of them how is this a problem?
>>
>>739081870
Yes, and their orientation is random. I shouldn't have to open up a map to know where each canton is located.
>>
so i started a playthrough of this for the first time, using just a graphics mod overhaul, fucked around going to random places for a couple hours and i found this seemingly game breaking ring like right at the start of my game with like no effort

did i fuck up?
>>
>>739082362
It's not game-breaking, just strong. The game has a ton of hidden items like that.
>>
>>739079735
this is where i dropped the game.

Why did Vivec build this shithole?
>>
>>739081581
>not just getting teleported between guilds
do plebs really?
>>
>>739084556
He wanted to teach young n'wahs that they need to cast levitate and fortify speed.
>>

Try reading his sermons

'Go to the land of the Indoril in three months' time, for that is when war comes. I return now to haunt the warriors who fell and still wonder why. But first I show you this.'
Then the Barons and the Demiprince joined together into a pillar of fighting styles terrible to behold and they danced before the egg and its learning image.

'Look, little Vehk, and find the face behind the splendor of my bladed carriage, for in it is delivered the unmixed conflict path, perfect in every way. What is its number?'
It is said the number is the number of birds that can nest in an ancient tibrol tree, less three grams of honest work, but Vivec in his later years found a better one and so gave this secret to his people.

'For I have crushed a world with my left hand,' he will say, 'but in my right hand is how it could have won against me. Love is under my will only.'
>>
>>739085269
Regardless of how batshit Vivec is, it's pretty hard to deny the guy if you're just a pleb living down the street from him.
>>
>>739085384
I mean I would rather live under Vivec than Sotha Sil or Almalexia
>>
>>739084556
Arrogant. He could have easily remove the meteor but use it as a abusive relationship with his people to make him a "savior".
>>
>>739086010
Thats basically how god figures usually work. Some natural disaster happens and people pray, despite god causing the disaster in the first place
>>
>>739082362
Morrowind is like that. You can get gamebusting items not too far from starting locations.
>>
>>739086590
Yeah and they usually end up turning to Christianity, Science, or in Japan case, KILL ALL GODS as every JRPG plot ever.
>>
>>739080679
Getting through Vivec on foot reminds me of when your car breaks down and you have to walk along the side of the road
>>
>>739079735
>>739080965
your levitation??
>>
>>739080965
I agree. I can't honestly think of any other city or town in any video game that I would like to spend less time in than Vivec. Even if you disregard how time wasting it feels to navigate it, the city itself is just a bunch of boring, mostly empty corridors and rooms. It doesn't feel like anything anyone would actually live in, it feels like some kind of sprawling corporate office building. Any other design would have been better and more interesting, it is truly the worst city imaginable to experience in a video game.
>>
How big is Vivec and its cantons supposed to be canonically because it's supposed to be the biggest city in Vvardenfell but it's hard for me to conceptualize because it only contains about 9 buildings in total so the cantons would have to be extremely large to make it a major city

>"Vivec City is a monument to ego. Let's not sugarcoat it. It’s a series of massive, floating concrete ziggurats built for a living god who literally has an asteroid suspended over the city just to remind everyone who's boss. The tourist brochures want you up top, in the Plazas. They want you buying overpriced, sanitized temple trinkets while Ordinators in golden masks stare at you like you’re a walking, breathing health code violation."
>"But that’s a facade. It’s a sterile, bureaucratic nightmare. To find the actual pulse of Vivec, you have to go down. Past the Waistworks, past the Canalworks, straight down into the Underworks. It’s pitch black. It smells like stagnant water, raw sewage, and desperation. You're sharing breathing room with smugglers, skooma addicts, and mutant rats the size of golden retrievers. But down there, in a flooded corridor, I found an Argonian exile operating a single rusted iron pot over a makeshift fire. No menu. No sign. He handed me a bowl of dreugh-meat gumbo. It was spicy enough to strip the paint off a guar, rich, muddy, and completely unregulated by the Temple. I ate it sitting on a damp crate while the religious police marched blindly overhead. Best meal in the whole damn province."

>moving between cantons takes too long and can only be done at specific spots
>moving up and down levels takes too long and can only be done at specific spots
>entering a canton requires loading into an interior
>entering a canton cannot be done at ground level
>if you exit from the Foreign Quarter (where the guild guide, silt strider, and ship will send you) you will be walking on the ground level because there is no second story bridge
>nothing on the exteriors to interact with except ordinators
>preferred transportation is fast traveling with a gondola or levitating over everything
possibly the least explorable city in gaming

devs ran headfirst into the limitations of the engine while the company was going bankrupt and had to compromise.

You know how skyrim has shithole dinky cities like whiterun that are technically interior cells of a kind?
Its THAT problem.
the ORIGINAL iteration of that problem.

Vivec's plazas were supposed to be open and the city was supposed to have more time put into it.
Instead they found that completely overloaded the engine and the hardware of the era, and had to scramble to find a solution.
25 years later they still haven't solved it, lazy fucking bastards.
