There's so many JRPGs that rip basic concepts from Nietzsche, but how many namedrop Hegel?
>>
>DUDE ROME
>>
Synthesis
>>
>>739100487
Jenova-Synthesis isn't enough, how about something more?
>>
>>739100394
Being real here, how many people actually understand or understood him enough to be able to do that?
Beyond cliffnotes level anyway.
Haven't made the effort myself but his tomes look heavy-duty
>>
Idk about jrpgs, pathologic kinda fits I think.
>>
>>739100394
negation tho
>>
can I read Hegel without a background in philosophy or do I have to read all of western thought from the Greeks onward first to understand anything
>>
>>739100906
You can, but it helps to have even a simple overview beforehand. A basic history of philosophy book with the broad ideas would give context.
>>
>>739100643
Nobody does. Not even Marx, and he based his whole ideology of Hegel.
>>
>>739101421
Is this a commonly known fact or do people just pretend to understand him to look smart
>>
>>739100394
Isn’t a bunch of Japanese character creation/analysis based on Jung desu?
>>
>>739100394
xenogears
>>
Turn based rpgs like e33 are for retards with no standards
>>
>>739102098
That wasn't really Hegel more Jung and Nietzsche.
>>
>>739101551
marx probably did.
a lot of retards who think in black-n-white terms love hegel because his entire philosophy on the surface is about taking opposites and making something new from them.

I refuse to look into whatever he actually was on about because the entire premise requires finding perfect opposites (which is retarded) and it seems to encourage idiots to be even shallower in their thinking than they might be otherwise.
>>
>>739100906
at the least its kind of useful to read the first half or so of descartes' meditations because its about trying to let go of all preconceived notions and seeing what you can rebuild of them from nothing but pure logic.
The goal should be to do the same with anything else you encounter.
Including descartes' meditations, which are flawed in a few ways due to some aspects of biology he was not aware of (due to being a french dude in the 1600's)
>>
Dialectics is a cancer destroying civilization desu
>>
>>739100906
Hegel is basically pointless to read unless you have specific motivation for doing so. Both modern and ancient philosophy are much more accessible generally. Hegelfags are the weirdest bunch of ragtags with the strangest reasons for following him. You get esoteric purists who completely refuse to pin down any idea at all, along with political/religious zealots who claim that Hegel predicted hyper specific things that justify their entire movements. It's completely mental and I agree with Schopenhauer and Kierkegaard.
>>
>>739103205
>I refuse to look into whatever he actually was on about because the entire premise requires finding perfect opposites (which is retarded)
It's actually much much more retarded than that and you misunderstood the boilerplate version.

This is the Hegel boss in Nier Automata.
Maybe that's cheating though. A lot of machines are named after philosophers because Nier Automata does the same thing as Ergo Proxy where the antagonists treat philosophy like programming.
>>
>>739103414
oh god its even MORE retarded than I thought?

The Persona series is really good and has a good grasp on Jung and delivers his ideas in a very digestible format.
Other than that, just pick up any book by Jung and get into it. The Red Book may be steep.

I tried reading thus spoke zarathustra once and I have been filtered hard (I don't have a formal education in history or philosophy and I slept through HS so from that point of view I'm a filthy philistine)
is there some prerequisite knowledge I'm supposed to have to make sense of that schizo babble or... ? I guess I actually have to go back and start with the greeks
>>739100394
persona 5, specifically akechi (extremely zesty ass flamboyant homosexual maniac)
>>
>>739100906
Yes, yes you can. Only retarded pseuds think otherwise. EVERY philosophical system stands on its own legs, they're just words to be read.
>>

fuck how do i watch age restricted videos without an account
the extension i had stopped working a year ago
>>
>>739105269
It's not your fault, Zarathustra is probably the worst book to start, try the twilight of the idols
>>
what is the point of philosophy
what is the point of reading other peoples' insane babbling philosophy from centuries ago
is there a philosophy about looking at your own experiences in your own time and making conclusions and thoughts based on that alone?
>>
>>739107306
Snobs use it as a sticker collection to feel part of an elite that doesn't exist, but philosophy is for improving life, Nietzsche helped me a lot
>>
>>739107306
Maybe you'd know if you stopped making up reasons not to read, retard
>>
>>739107415
>Nietzsche helped me a lot

It sure as hell didn't help him.
>>
>>739100643
No need to "understand". Just namedrop concepts or an author.
>>

reading is great, but this specific genre leaves me scratching my chin is all

If you're asking this, you're probably going to enjoy reading philosophy; actually.
>>
>>739107306

its mostly about trying to find an efficient way to think and understand the world around you and yourself.
plenty of retarded people misusing it and obsessing so much over how to think that they stop ACTUALLY thinking.

it can be quite useful when applied correctly, but spending too much time on it is ironically worse than if you never touched it at all.
>>
>>739107548
Because essays are abstract, philosophical novels are visceral stories where those ideas emerge
>>
>>739107601
The lack of philosophical understanding has caused some problems in objective fields such as STEM.
Science could benefit from a wider reconciliation with philosophy, it's been over a century already. We need to take it back from druggies.
>>
>>739100394
you can smell the grease in his hair
>>
>>739107665
Sure, and if it did it would cause plenty of philosophical retards to be brought to the light kicking and screaming.
because shit like hegel would be treated like the bogosort algorithm
>>
Nier:Automata namedrops a handful of guys like Kierkegaard, Hegel et al. for its robot names. They generally suffer from existential and dialetical issues, so it fits.
It's not supposed to be a masterclass on their subjects because it's a game about fighting stuff using a girl with a giant ass.

hegel, kant, continental philosophy, idealism are retarded memes, almost as dumb as plato
>>
>>739107665
Totally agree, i feel most STEM people are illiterate in the humanities
>>
>>739100394
Because they only chase low hanging fruit. It is the same reason why most JRPGs will shit on Christianity but won't touch Islam or Buddisim.
>>
>>739100906
philosophy crash course
socrates just argued with people
plato thought the universe worked in forms, like concepts of roundness and roughness existed as entities in a shadow realm that manifested here
pretty much nothing noteworthy happens until descartes
europeans meme around retardation like your thoughts are separate from your body, coping the influx of science with god
people like hume and darwin started figuring out how the world actually works
materialism, determinism start to win out
some fags russel and wittgenstein think words have meaning, figure out no they dont like its some big revelation
quantum physics makes people question determinism
fags like kripke and putnam try to revive meme nonsense

Not really. You can for modern purposes boil his philosophy or what we know of it down to a simple phrase; don't take anything for granted. Which desu is a good mantra to keep in your arsenal. Aristotle went to great lengths to prove socrates' theory that basically 'we all know nothing' is incorrect but it still has value.

Well, this might come as a surprise, but by asking such questions, you are engaging in philosophy. So it's not as much of a head-scratcher as you initially proposed..
>>
>>739109057
Chat ask grok to tell gemini to summarise hegel mcgreggor in few words.
>He rejected the static, classical logic of Aristotle (A=A), which treats identities as separate and fixed.
He proposed a dynamic, developmental process called the dialectic, where every concept or "moment" contains internal contradictions.
These contradictions drive a process of "sublation" (Aufhebung), where opposing ideas are overcome and preserved within a higher, more comprehensive unity.

>>739100394
If meta is allowed, every other jrpg uses this in their narrative progress, see>>739100487 or >>739100809

I'm reading a book on Hegel right now called Hegel and the Hermetic Tradition, so it's weird I see this thread here. But the author's contention is that Hegel's current legacy as literally nothing more than a precursor to Marx is wrong and basically the result of left-Hegelian revisionism. Those guys, including Marx just read into Hegel whatever they wanted to see, and ignored all the other stuff. The author believes Hegel belongs to the Hermetic school of witchcraft and wizardry.

there still remains novelty to be discovered before apocalypse (all things revealed). how much is left? probably very little

hegelian absolute spirit = alchemical magnum opus = perfection of the human soul = kabbalah adam kadmon = swedenborg maximus homo = sufi perfect man, and so on. the same 6000 year old tradition reiterated under new superficialities
hegelian historiography is applying teleology to lurianic tikkun olam. marx rejected mysticism and spiritualism and occult bullshit leaving just material teleology

We're all looking at the same sculpture and talking about it but your angle on it is unavoidably unique. There are many subtle feelings that we have no language for, so slip by unnoticed. If you pay attention to your own experience instead of regurgitating other people's vomit you are already in an elite class of idea generators.
