Can someone explain the DaS DLC to me?I know that you travel in the past to fight Artorias, but then how do you end up in the cell in the beginning of the base game?Wouldn't you be renowned for killing Manus and Artorias? And who kills Artorias if you werent to do the DLC?
It's a closed time loop. The chosen undead already killed Artorias in the past, but then history forgot your name and attributed your actions to him."I will remember thee, but I will keep thy story to myself. This is the best way, for thou art come from a time far ahead. No-one will sing they praises, but yet thy greatness shall live on. For it shall be my purpose, to remember all thou hast done for us."
>>739102696Artorious gets all the credit for everything in the DLC, except killing him, he just died/disappears during. Your story is known only to you, Elizabeth, and Sif. And I guess that fuckass cat. If you do the DLC and save Sif in the Abyss, you actually do get a unique cutscene for the battle against Sif, though. But, you don't know you did any of that stuff, until you do it either. Since, from your perspective, you haven't done it yet.As for why you're in prison, you're undead, and nobody else's problem as long as you're imprisoned.
>>739103043>But, you don't know you did any of that stuff, until you do it either. Since, from your perspective, you haven't done it yet.How would you not have known that you did it though? It's what the chosen undead did themselves in the past.
>>739102696>And who kills Artorias if you werent to do the DLC?If not another undead, then Anor Londo probably sends a significant enough force to get the job done. Alternatively, Oolacile sinks into the earth and is then flooded, Manus gets the pendant halves and goes to sleep then Seath steals half without being noticed, etc. Oolacile might have been mandatory back when From Software was developing the main game before the development time was reduced.
>>739103146You still experience time in a linear fashion. If you woke up tomorrow in 1845, you wouldn't remember it since it hadn't happened to you yet.
>>739103146The Chosen Undead doesn't send their consciousness back in time into an earlier version of themselves, they physically travel back in time to an era that's likely long before they were ever born. To the time traveller, that's like their present even if it's in the world's past.
>>739102696Dusk is a trailer park thotManus is her pimp daddyKalameet is a shitbullArtorias is a simp retardElizabeth is just a kindly old fat bitchGough is get off my lawnAnd you, chosen undead, are a retarded faggot if you took any of it seriously
>>739103160>Alternatively, Oolacile sinks into the earth and is then floodedIsn't Oolacile (Or sanctuary gardens) just darkroot gardin/basin?
>>739102696Time in Dark Souls isn't 'real time', it's basically a structural illusion to create fake history and presence. In reality, Time in Dark Souls is much more akin to a 4th spatial dimension used for Gwyn to perpetuate his control.
>>739103328The Oolacile part has apparently sunk into the earth in the present day, with the forest apparently growing over a narrow fissure. The river that was basically drained in the past is now full and roaring, and this water might have also flowed into the sunken city and the Chasm of the Abyss.
>>739102696>I know that you travel in the past to fight Artorias, but then how do you end up in the cell in the beginning of the base game? You as a human lived somewhere out in the world, away from the land of the gods, Lordran. When the First Flame started to wane, people all around the world became Undead, branded by the Darksign. You were one of them. If left alone for too long Undead will lose their minds and become Hollows, attacking anyone around them to feast on their souls. So Undead all over the world were either exiled to the Northern Undead Asylum, or willingly left their home countries on their own to reach Lordran, following the path of legends.>Wouldn't you be renowned for killing Manus and Artorias?Nope, the whole point is that Artorias was renown as the "Abysswalker", one of Gwyn's Four Knights who conquered the Abyss. This is what history says happened. But in reality, Artorias had no trace of Dark within him (he's not human), so when the Abyss corrupted him he was unable to handle it, and went Hollow. The Chosen Undead was dragged into the past, slew Artorias and Manus, but credit for felling Manus was given to Artorias instead since you weren't really supposed to be here. And so the timeline is preserved.>And who kills Artorias if you werent to do the DLC?Canonically it's you. After Manus was killed he split into many different fragments, which re-manifested as a group of girls embodying different aspects of his personality, called the Daughters of Manus. These girls would travel out to distant lands to seduce the kings of those lands and acquire power, all to spread the Abyss. This is the plot of Dark Souls 2.
Fuck, I should boot up my dusty PS3 and replay the game. I remember fucking nothing

>>739103441This makes much more sense, thanks for the writeup. >one of Gwyn's Four Knights who conquered the AbyssWho were the other three?
>>739103743how the fuck do you not know that
>>739103743Dragon Slayer Ornstein, Lord's Blade Ciaran, and Hawkeye Gough. Ornstein stayed behind with Executioner Smough to defend the throne, but Ciaran and Gough followed Artorias to Oolacile. Ciaran makes a grave for Artorias after you kill him, asking for his soul in exchange for her weapons if you have it. Gough is a giant and has since gone blind and retired, but despite that is still Gwyn's best archer, and snipes Black Dragon Kalameet down for you to kill.
>>739103945Even though nobody asked.Gough is the GOAT and the only one of Gwyn's four knights that is actually worth the title. Artorious is a massive jobber, Ciaran is noted as being unsuited to normal combat, only assassination, and Ornstein is decent but mediocre. Gough is a motherfuckin champ. I have nothing but respect for Gough. The other three kinda fukkin suck.
>>739104616>Artorious is a massive jobberLosing a fight with Manus (and managing to survive) isn't really something that shameful. He also put up a decent fight against the Chosen Undead despite losing his mind and his dominant arm.
>>739105039And his greatshield. He gave that to Sif to protect her from the Abyss, but he normally wields both a greatsword and greatshield.
>>739105071True, he might have done a lot better if he had his greatshield with him.
>>739102696Kek just played the DLC for the first time last week and I also had so many questions, but it's easier to think of it as a closed timeloop or as a canonical "happening".Other theory is that Artorias himself could have finished the job with the last remains of conscience he had (who else would bother to rescue Siff aside from him and the Chosen Undead?)But yeah doesn't make too much sense either.I prefer the Chosen Undead always supposed to take on the closed time loop or Anor Londo sending more forces to clean up the mess.
>>739105679Stable time loops like that are a staple in all three Dark Souls games.
>>739104616Low IQ
>>739105039>>739105071Damn, now I really want to fight prime Artorias.
>>739108626i remember hoping for "old abysswalker" boss in one of das2 dlcs, especially after seeing the abyss greatsword leak. also one of promo images was a shot of sir alonne from the back, with not much being visible. lots of anons theorized it was artorias and even compared the silhouette. now i'm glad it never happened, it would completely ruin him.if you want artorias on steroids you can fight him in nightreign, with some new retarded moves
