It wasn't a great game, but it was good for a system starved for JRPGs before the PS3 started actually getting games. Remember this, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata being about the only JRPGs I had on the system.

I used to think GoW Ascension was the PS3's swan song, but playing it again and really looking at new screenshots revealed it's kind of not good, and relies on shadows and lots of dark scenes to hide the textures and models. Despite all this, it still has problems maintaining a decent FPS whenever there's excessive shader effects or transparencies - which a focal gameplay power uses extensively - and an OC'd firmware doesn't help either

Overall, it's another PS3 game where the devs were expected to make do with a bunch of shitty coprocessors + one actual CPU chained to RAMBUS' bullshit platform, which the baby Geforce 7 will absolutely be using (slowly) once it inevitably uses all 256MB of VRAM

There's a really annoying low-res gaussian blur/DOF applied throughout that's trying to hide the low rendering resolution, and while this was a common trick that worked on 1080p plasma and LCD TV's from that era, it looks like blurry ass on nice modern displays, which is even worse in motion
