using hammers and offhand shield or gun. terrible stat spread but whatever, it looks cool.

it's crazy how easily you can facetank stuff if you upgrade heavy armor. also this game has oddly has a bunch of combo moves unique to weapon types.
>>
Such a great little game. Love the moody guitar playing in the background while you are trotting around killing scrubs.

yeah the soundtrack is quite short but unique for the genre of the game i think. there's also some really nice atmospheric sounds when there's no music. it strikes a decent balance between music with a subdued excitement and then only atmospheric sounds unique to each dungeon paired with combat sounds.

had to grab an axe and upgrade it because the boss has a ton of strike resist. come to think of it that's probably why hammers and axes are paired in the upgrade trees

I quite liked the perk tree in this game, it's not terribly hard to branch off into something else once you've gotten your footing. I remember i started my playthrough going into daggers and later on switching to swords which really only required unlocking like 2 nodes with some stuff in between that i would've want to get anyway. I should play it again at some point, it was a great game.

I got lost around some inca pyramid or whatever. Where was I supposed to GO?

The pyramid is how you advance further by descending through it. However iirc there might be red walls there that might block your advance to new areas if you haven't acquired the matching brand to pass through those, which is nowhere near that area.

I can't believe the devs copied elden beast, no shame really.
>>
I should play sacrifice, or rather try to get into it again with a different mindset. I like the artstyle but i bounced off hard. Heard the game got patched since then at least
>>739162742
Lol I love that boss.
>>739163079
go up for a required boss and then go waaay down

Salt 2 is better because it has this fucking half spear weapon class that fucks everything up.

I think my favorite boss was Murdiella Mal. I just liked her visual effects in the fight, plus it was fun to just stumble into that whole place.
>>739163950
How is 2 anyway? I mostly heard bad things about it but i'd like to try it at some point regardless because 1 was such a great experience.
And speaking of weapons, does it have anything like my goat from the first one, Flint & Steel? It was such a fun boomstick that carried me through the whole game.
>>
>>739164119
I don’t remember if 2 has the gunsword but almost all the weapons have either mp bar you can spec into for buffs or special ranged moves, or a rage bar that increases with hits and also grants similar effects. It’s a completely different beast from 1, imo. Definitely monster hunter inspired + souls. I had a mixed experience with it but back when I played it, the mage bosses were juggling players way more with attacks, which they patched later on. I gave up in world 2 desu, I remember fighting holy and vampire mages I think. Shit was brutal. I want to give it another shot soon, plus they also added a free dlc iirc
>>
>>739164119
2 is a weird mix of the first salt and sanctuary and monster hunter of all things.

Basically, you are meant to track and hunt down elemental mages across a large interconnected map, you fight and chase them until they reach their boss room where they will make their last stand and fight you for real, once you kill them they will drop parts that you can use to craft armors and weapons, much like in Monster Hunter.

Most bosses are mages, and the maps are self contained areas rather than a single super large map which is the main complaint people had, but I don't mind it because the maps still hold metroidvania elements and the bosses are varied enough even if they follow the common mage theme, I enjoyed Sacrifice more than Sanctuary.

it's neat that she doesn't drop any salt in ng because she's from a foreign celestial plane of existence or something

I see, thanks for the info. I used to love MonHun back in the day so perhaps that alone makes it worth checking Sacrifice out. The lack of one huge map will likely be something i'll miss though, the world and exploration were probably the best parts of the first game for me and i'm usually not even fond of metroidvanias.
>>739164617
That's a neat touch, i didn't even know about that one. I'll be honest, the lore of the game was very cool. I loved reading all the excerpts in the upgrade tree and piecing them all together.
>>739165012
It was a rather funny (and shortlived) experience finding out that their attack is actually considered a grab move so i couldn't just parry it with the gunblade.

Man, I played the game blind and missed it completely.

lifesteal charm with hp regen ring is surprisingly good, almost completely eliminates the need to use heals outside of boss arenas

for me, it's magic and the coveted

i remember staves being busted with dark magic
>>
>>739165926
oh, they were
the dark blast did fuck tons of damage and staggered bosses to death
>>
>>739158212
I feel like they ran out of time or idea near the end, I remember there was a cave level that was just empty with the same golem enemies.
>>
>>739158212
Great game. Ended up playing and finishing the game through co-op with my dad.

More games should have co-op

man lifesteal is busted with upgraded heavy armor, didn't use a single heal against the third lamb. tanking for days.
>>739166004
yeah but it wasn't that bad considering all of the areas, that was at the very very end, like penultimate level iirc. it's actually kind of insane how many enemies there are in this game
>>739166148
i played the entire thing with a friend years back, good times. the pvp item was also fun to have some duels with friends. i know the sequel has better, actually supported online coop if you are interested in that.

Probably the most interesting Soulslike I've played. Too bad the game's heavy use of knockback and juggling annoyed me to the point that I just stopped playing.

i didn't think the juggling was too bad in 1 outside of a couple of bosses (fucking pirate man) but it's been a while since i last played through the entire game. knockback definitely though, so many attacks send your character flying off platforms to your death lol. still it's very unique and probably my favorite soulslike.

also this dried squid on a stick is insanely powerful.
