Why is Tears of the Kingdom so universally hated?
>>
>>739163307
Its just an expansion to BOTW, everything about is garbage time waster.
>>
>>739163307
Because Nintendo doesn't understand what a videogame is.
Sections of the game, like the much praised building mechanic, can not be said to include any gameplay at all, instead they are just very clunky play.
If you put down the handheld and just focused on pooping or commuting, you would experience an equal amount of gameplay.
This is a trend that has gotten worse and worse since the Gamecube, but it really took a nosedive with the later years of the Wii.

Ask yourself; what would a perfect BotW look like?
Does TotK match up with what you imagined?
There is still potential in the BotW formula, but TotK doesn't even come close to reaching that potential.
>>
>>739163398
people call it an expansion, but its more like a bad remake. literally no game ever gets rebuilt from the ground up engine wise for an expansion.
>>
its a classic case of no game syndrome; snoys convince themselves movie games with propaganda are video games just like tendies worship botw because they have nothing else that resembles a normal adventurelike video game.
>>
>>739163307
I wouldn't say it's hated, it's just that the building mechanics are too far detached from the tool-based combat and exploration.

In terms of content, it's more like an expansion pack. Much bigger than a DLC, but not quite a full game.

I also think the underground area was way too big with way too much empty space.
>>
>>739163882
Nintendo literally has like a dozen games on the Switch that would qualify as an adventurelike video game.
>>
>>739163307
reused map
nuts and bolts/gmod mechanics nobody wanted
the "dungeons" still suck ass
sky areas are lacking
the depths feel like a joke
>>
>>739163307
It's only hated by people who never played it. Its one of the best and most complete games ever made, as well as one of the most technically impressive given the hardware. It makes botw feel like a tech demo. It's an amazing game makes people seethe because deep down they know it is the best game of the last decade.

I hate zelda and went into thinking I'd make fun of it but it blew me away. I played botw after it and was bored because it seemed so basic by comparison. It's better than elden ring and I like elden ring a lot
>>
>>739163307
because it's a shit game
>>
>>739163307
oh yeah the story is retarded and the gay ass furfags as well
>>
>>739163307
>seething endlessly because sony is flopping
-6million karma to ziony.
>>
it really is just a very in-depth remix of the same game. it just feels like botw but with a mod-like gimmick slapped on top of it.
it doesnt feel like a brand new game at all, and after waiting like 6 years or whatever it was, it was just massively disappointing.
i was expecting some huge change-up to the way the game plays, like co-op with zelda for puzzles and combat. and huge zelda dungeons. but after all that waiting, the big change was fucking link legos and not much else.
>>
You'd think it would be more beloved considering it also runs at just 20 fps like Ocarina of Time.
>>
>>739163307
Its not hated at all besides by a few pretendos.
>>
>>739165810
Sounds like a cult to me
>>
>>739163770
There is no potential to the BotW formula, there's barely even a formula. It's just indefinitely stalled development, which appears to be a staple of Nutendo.
A "perfect" BotW would need to build on the plateau and Hyrule Castle, since they are basically tutorial areas, whereas everything else is just repetition and filler.

oof, they need to do "what they did" with Botw again, don't they.
formulas kill Zelda

nobody ready for that truth
>>
>>739163307
Zelda has always been about innovative new tech. TOTK was just soulless BOTW
>>
It's a dlc at the end of the day. Sky and underground is pure shit, dungeons are still shit, story is the worst in the series and the Zonai stuff feels like the biggest insult ever after the way they teased them in botw. It's not bad but what a shit sequel

>biggest totk glazer hates zelda as a franchise
nintendo just split zelda into two, one for zelda fans and one for botw fans. botw one doesn't even need to be zelda just make it a separate franchise
>>
>>739163307
There is no scat, cuckoldry, or incest. It should be obvious that this game isn't for people that have standards.
>>
>>739166479
>nintendo just split zelda into two
>20 million people
>versus like 10 thousand
good luck, you are going to need it, linear slopper
>>
>>739166548
you manage without zero friends so zelda will manage with 10 thousand fans
>>
>>739163307
It's not universally hated, but it is generally middling to unreceptive for folks who wanted either something more substantially different than BotW or didn't like BotW to begin with. Kinda like Doom 2016 to Doom Eternal, you get "more" of the same general gist but doubling down on pain points some people really didn't like, except worse because TotK also missed the entire point of why people liked BotW's sandbox experimentation in favor of lots of glue and physics puzzles.

You are only a 'Zelda fan' in this if you specifically like pre-WW games. Anyone who thinks TP or SS are superior to the Switch games or the actual classics are subhumans.

>The camp rises up into the air
>Surprise! It's a Battle Talus!
>Streamer can't climb the Talus because of the scaffolding installed on it
>Gets whacked by the Talus and falls off a cliff and dies
>Tries again, tries shooting the Talus' nucleus
>Gets whacked by a thrown arm boulder and dies
>Tries again
>Tries to use Ascend under it, doesn't get a good entry point
>Talus uses the slam attack it does when Link is under its legs
>Streamer gets hit and dies
>Streamer gets frustrated and curses out Nintendo
>Eventually they get into a pattern of using Rewind to send arm boulders back to stun the Talus, then using Ascend to get on top of it and attack it

It had to be one of the laziest rehashes I've ever seen in gaming. So much so that people were even using emulators to play it in higher quality than on the official device and weeks earlier before release were showing how bad it truly was. I can't remember the last time I played a Nintendo game, but it was actually kind of shocking how far this series has fallen.
>>
>>739163307
Because it's the nortubel of Zelda
>>
The only thing i really liked about TOTK was the cave system. Whoever was responsible for it is the only member of the dev team who actually tried to improve the game and it worked, i swear some cave systems go through half the fucking region.
Otherwise i hated it. I hated stupid building with a billion glue points making a simple act of attaching wheels to a platform a nightmare. I hated how limited the blueprint system was and how many resources you needed to print a single blueprint. I hated the despawn range and the fact most constructs are worthless in combat, with powerful enemies just roaring them away.
The sky islands were by far the biggest piece of bullshit marketing possible, only the tutorial island was worth shit.
But the worst offender are the Depths. Empty, completely featureless, incredibly ugly, only the part below Great Plateau felt like it had a level design.

I also miss the lonely green postapoc atmosphere of BOTW.
>>
>>739171259
Shut the fuck up
>>
>>739163972
>the depths feel like a joke
I still don't understand what the objective was with the Depths. Is it really meant to just be a massive sandbox for building shit?
>>
>>739163307
I'm enjoying it so far, I think the physics puzzles in shrines are excellent. But the overworld still kinda sucks, it's lazily recycled, and there's not nearly enough to do in the sky or the depths. I hope the dungeons are better than divine beasts.
>>
>>739163307
It's an instant classic, return to form that appeals to fans old and new alike.
>>
>>739171295
Basically yeah, they give you a dark and inhospitable area where you can build machines to get around. It's full of Yiga bases and monster camps to pull up on and raid, and the Yiga bases all teach you pre-built recipes when you clear them out so its meant to be your "learn how to use Zonai tech here and also get new templates as a reward" thing. You also collect all the material and batteries there so it upgrades itself as you practice it more.

I don't get the anger or confusion over this. They made the Zonai specific map for Zonai stuff so you don't have to do anything with Zonai tech if you don't want to. Why does giving people choices offend Zelda traditionalists so much? I thought you people loved how non-linear OoT was.
>>
>>739163307
It's just a bunch of retreading and shameless bloat. When you look at how many times they reuse bosses and minibosses in this game you start to see why people want them to go back to the old formula. 6 years just to fight Hinoxes another 60+ times, and Nintendo calls that quality content.
>>
>>739163307
Get the fuck out of the echo chamber.
>>
>>739171295
Worse. Hyrule is meant to be the sandbox, but the Depths is an area that you're meant to farm endlessly for Zonaite just so you can even have ease of access to the building content. It's there to literally just waste your time, to give justification for the $70 MSRP. Minimal effort from Nintendo.
>>
>>739163307
Been replaying it recently on Switch 2, after I replayed BotW. Both games share the same issue of the glider being way too powerful. It ruins exploration and traversal because you cannot die from falling off. Fast travel is another pain point but it was less of an issue in BotW since I could play through it without fast traveling and the game was clearly made without fast travel in mind.
The abundance of open world activities in TotK actually ruin the mood, especially that cunt sign guy, Addison that is behind every corned with his retarded sign puzzle. Also the backpack Koroks are annoying as well but at least you can torment them if you wish.
Don't care for the nuts and bolts vehicle building. In fact I think it's fucking retarded to have something like that in a Zelda game.
Anyway overall I've been enjoying going through TotK again. Good game that needs some trimming because there's a fantastic game underneath that's being diluted by out of place features.
>>
>>739171760
>Both games share the same issue of the glider being way too powerful
It's worse in tiktok because you can just launch into the sky and glide anywhere.
>>
>>739171282
>I hated the despawn range and the fact most constructs are worthless in combat, with powerful enemies just roaring them away.
This was the worst part. There's no point building anything cool or complicated, it's just a hassle, will despawn, and any enemy it would be worth using on can insta destroy it. It's not like the shrines/puzzles using the building system are very interesting either. It's like they included this entire really good physics system and yet it only exists to transport koroks.
>>
>>739171295
It's the Dark World again. The Depths has the same layout as the surface, and all Lightroots are situated below shrines on the surface.
>>
>>739163307
I hated TotK because it was the worst possible follow-up to BotW, which I liked, that they could have made. It felt like a worse retreading of the same exact shit BotW already did, and I mean the EXACT same shit, same gameplay, same story, same world all designed and presented to you at a lower quality. And it couldn't even fucking commit to being a real sequel, it had to brush as much of BotW under the rug as possible.
>>
>>739163307
It took 6 years to come out, and it was a glorified DLC. For $70.
>>
>>739163770
Elden Ring is what everyone wanted from Breath of the Wild, but didn't get. Elden Ring is the true and superior sequel to BotW.
>>
>>739171869
Yeah that's true.
The high points of both games are the parts where you don't have the glider, or are in enclosed spaces where the glider is useless.
The sky islands in TotK feel really lame thanks to there being no danger of falling off. You just glide down and fast travel back up to the nearest fast travel point.
>>
>>739163307
BotW is already a mediocre game.
And so BotW: Nuts and Bolts is just a subpar game.
>>
>>739171383
Honestly I think people just don't like the depths because it's too samey and the rewards are all shitty armors you can't upgrade. Despite that, the actual gameplay in the depths, raiding the yiga bases and building huge tanks to fight the enemies (even if the vehicle vs enemy gameplay is not very well thought out) was the most fun I had with the game, personally. The depths and the Eventide style shrines made the best use of the ultrahand mechanics.
>>
>build cool contraption
>save in case I fuck up using it
>I do

>it's gone

>>
>>739172151
You don't even need to reload, just make 5 steps away and it will despawn.

Its just a worse version of BOTW and the framerate drops to 20 fps everytime u try to use its main feature, the strapped on gmod tools that despawn everything after 20 seconds unless you grind for 30 hours in the copy pasted underworld and kill the same enemy 1000 times
