Rarely has a musical release disappointed me as hard as this one. The "pendulum part" is absolute peak and able to hang with their best stuff, but then they had to completely ruin and shit up the track with gay emo trap screeching.

The state of audio engineering in the 00s was absolutely dismal. CD sale profits went down the drain, and this was one of the areas that got hit the hardest. So much wonderful music that just got mindlessly clipped into the red.

For what it's worth there's a fantastic remaster for drink the sea by glitch mob.

>>

>>739181339
i am almost 32. i love music and i sing every day. your age has nothing to do with your enjoyment of music. you just have lost your lust for life, something that can happen at any age.
>>
>>739181470
If a person who doesn't do anything can see through music as a bunch of noise, it's not anything special.
>>
>>739181562
You're less intelligent than you think you are.
>>
>>739181606
If music was "spiritual" or somehow otherwise transcended the material sound waves it actually is, then it (music) would ring home into every human being. You couldn't escape it any more than you could escape hunger or lust. Instead it's pretty easy to get bored of music like a child would get bored of a toy. That's basically all music is, a toy you put away when you get older.

This is how your brain atrophies. If you don't have it in you to dig deep (not just music but all art), you will stop growing as a person.
>>
>>739181819
"Growing as a person" is just trying to imparts standards into slaves. It's about as productive as teaching a farm dog to get picky over its food. There's a reason so many people have observed that people who are content with less appear the most happy and are less likely to suffer some catastrophic fall when they things they enjoy are taken away.
>>
>>739181819

im finna blast Travis on yo old ass
>>
>>739181914
No one's trying to impart anything, it's your life. Art is not just art. Art is inspiration. When you stop looking for things to inspire you, you stagnate and stop growing, it's that simple. We're not talking about anything material here, personal growth is not the same as material growth. You can and even should be content with less material things, I agree. But you have to keep exploring, maintain your childlike wonder, etc. That's how I enjoy the world anyway, maybe for you its different.
>>
>>739180348
It's their most sincere / polished album. In Silico is more fun to listen to.
>>
>>739182203
Who said you're entitled to enjoy anything? We're all so rootless now that people like you are pleading to imaginary faculties in things like music to guide us. You've elevated art to a sort of divinity that's irrational and nonfunctional in practice anyway. It's delusion. A responsible master would take all of this away and drive people in a productive direction.

Who said we're not? I don't think you realise nobody sets the rules. You have no more authority to decide what we can or cannot do, what is normal and what is weird, right or wrong, than any of us. That's the opposite of slavery.
>You've elevated art to a sort of divinity

I think the big miscalculation was the idea that they needed to incorporate "modern elements" instead of just sticking to their roots.

Here, Saosin (which was active during the peak of pendlum as well) dropped their first track after like 16 years recently and it's basically following the exact formula of old school emo, just with modern production and the track is fucking blowing up.

Are we going to appeal to subjectivity forever until everything's unspooled under the guise of "at least I'm free"? This is such a crude and American way of seeing everything. There can't be any higher meaning nor direction, everything must go to pot or be reduced to base elements that you pick and choose at your leisure, never amounting to something greater. This place loves food analogies so it's the equivalent of just stuffing handfuls of flour, salt and sugar into your mouth instead of baking bread. Or worse, you do all of that and insist it's somehow art or expression. If you put slaves in charge and let them run their kingdom they'd think in this exact same way, yet you explain it to "literate" or "free" people and they somehow have just as little understanding of the problem.

This sums up my thoughts on this album perfectly. I still listen to songs from Hold Your Color, In Silico and Immersion daily but I haven't listened to anything from Inertia more than the first time. "Chasing modern trends" was the vibe I got from the album in not just the instrumentals but even in the way Rob delivered his vocals in a lot of the songs.

An entire generation of partygoers has come and gone thinking Drum n Bass is the Pendulum sound.
It's like a generation of filmmakers who loved the Michael Bay Transformers movies as children and are now inspired to make their own blockbusters with the same incoherence and mindless nonsense.
That's what Pendulum genre is: The Michael Bay of Drum n Bass.
16 bars up, 16 bars down, bassline breakdown bassline breakdown, dook-chak two-step kick all night long.

It's loud, obnoxious, occasionally impressive, but ultimately dull, soulless, and run off an assembly line devoid of any warmth or ingenuity.
Every track is a carbon copy of each other. This is fast food DnB.
It's not a culture, it's a mass-produced product.
This is commercial exploitation. Drum n Bass is dead and Pendulum killed it.

I simply believe this whole dynamic between people who think music is the most important amazing thing in life and people who think music is worthless noise is gay and retarded. I will NEVER insult someone for their taste in music or for liking a band or an artist I don't like, yet at the same time I will NEVER pretend I'm better than someone because of my own personal taste in music or my general opinion on it because that's dumb and I might come around to appreciate that artist 5 or 10 years later or in a remix or something anyway. I would really hate to make a food analogy right about now.

The counter culture push away from intelligent DnB towards a more melodic sound in the later 2000s revived the genre, and then intelligent resurfaced as late stage liquid DnB and killed it all over again. That's my opinion at least.

you literally have no soul, no personality, nothing. People who don't listen to any music are the most boring pieces of shit on the planet. they have no say in anything. this reminds me of a girl I was talking to recently and I could tell she wasn't a "music person". she even told me that but she listens to some stuff while she cleans the house and it is the most garbage trash you could ever hear. spanish reggaeton or whatever. it just goes to show people like that have absolutely no taste and they are so easy to identify. literal NPCs. I couldn't imagine playing a game like xenoblade and not caring about the soundtrack.

I still enjoy the occasional new movie, series, anime, etc, but haven't been able to enjoy any music track made after 2014ish. The same with my dad but his cutting point is the mid 90's.

i also dj so maybe my discovery mechanisms are just better tuned for music

Man, I feel like you would've loved intelligent DnB back in the day. I struggle to get into that very minimal sound, but I think that's because I grew up with my dad listening to rave scene trance, handbag house and UKG. I think that's coloured my taste towards a more melodic sound, which the 2007-2014 era DnB scene that you don't like had in spades.

I miss going to raves from 2007-2012, what a time to be alive. I saw Pendulum three times and every time they were dogshit though.

Though compared to now they were.... still really dogshit, they'd fit right in with the DJs of today, just clicking play on their laptops and auto-mixing. I do regret not seeing them in their band version because that might've been good, I saw Infected Mushroom band version and it was pure kino. Either way, raves just aren't the same these days, every DJ I see is pretty mediocre outside of the small shows and I no longer do ecstasy cause of fent, I'm forced to just do fucking shrooms and acid and it sucks.

Ehh, most of the stuff you'll find from that era's early years would be the (slightly) more mainstream jungle, some early dub and a lot of intelligent DnB that arguably killed the genre's mainstream appeal. You have to bear in mind around that time DnB was competing with 90's & turn of the millennium rave scene sounds like trance, handbag house and garage, it just wasn't nearly as popular as it became around 2007 onwards when the melodic influences from other genres got incorporated into the sound, and artists like Pendulum and Logistics saw mainstream success. For example, Logistics from 2006:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMshjyFnV9M

I can't really recommend anything from the early years honestly. What little I've heard from that era (1995-2004-ish) is very niche and doesn't sound good to my ears. Intelligent specifically is very stripped back and minimalist, similar to what some niche parts of DnB started to become around 2015-2018 after dubstep completely eclipsed it.
This is a trance track from 1994, bear in mind this is the kind of thing the early DnB scene was up against, they stood no chance in comparison, Especially sub-genres like intelligent weren't sophisticated enough to compete with it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oniqGpRzoWQ

>I've read somewhere saying early 2000s dnb is actually super hard to come by because a lot of the artists were very autistic about sharing their shit especially online.
Possibly, the trouble of being underground is people weren't really out there making singles or LPs, they're just dicking around with friends and producing beats that stay very local and in the after hours club scene

What the hell are we defining as EDM in this conversation? It's such a stupid catch-all umbrella for so many genres and motifs that I can't take people seriously when they say they like "EDM music". This was a chart topper """EDM""" classic back in the mid 90s. People who don't recognise it will surely know what song it is at 2:18 but my point is that if you're talking chart toppers then they mostly happened in the 90s mainly when the rave scene was mainstream.

House/Electro House but with vocals from popstars. Beauty and a Beat is a classic Zedd track but Justin Bieber sings on it. That doesn't make it not EDM. 'Stay The Night' is not rock just because Hayley Williams sings on it.

Sad is the word for it. Still at least it isn't an active battleground for meme warfare like /gif/ is.

Blood Sugar has been my #1 "in the zone" track since Jedi Outcast. Never lets me down. The original mix, of course, not the one with the cuts and words shoehorned in.

>>739213035
>Ayu
Love it anon! I will admit, Ayu - M (above and beyond typhoon dub) is kino. Pitch it and it's a monster tune and it mixes well into Ampire's track singularity as well.

Thanks for that recommendation

>>739214052
Would that really be considered brostep though? for me it was just harder dubstep, Boston Cream is one of my fav tunes too

Brostep for me was the growly lazery stuff (which i like too)

I'd say so. Less obvious / no influence from Jamaican dub, and more aggressive sound design. Not that it's a bad thing, just different. People even call some of the harsher Caspa stuff brostep.

Zomboy is def more brostep than Chasing Shadows though.

by the motivation that music imbues in me, my enjoyment and experience of the value of the creation, that being an artistic intent, is made thorough

I could just play Burnout Paradise, but I come in clutch, experiencing mechanics, and arriving at rewards, faster, if I have a soundtrack I can listen to.
I can play soldier in TF2 without Pendulum, but I wouldn't be ballsy enough to do the stupid things that show how confidence can better my performance.
