Why is one of the most famous games of all time this expensive?
You stupid.I pirate.
>>739182916>>739182939What's the point of paying so much for the original cart if you're going to have to crack it open to use? Just get a 3rd party cart and load up 30+ other games on it for around the same price.
>>739183129brownoid opionion discarded
>>739182916>>739182939but then it's not the original. Might as well play a pirated copy
>>739183040Because people will still pay that much. RBY copies used to be way cheaper, and have steadily gotten more expensive over time.

>>739183190Oh fuck off, no one cares. Retards who can't change their batteries are a blessing, I've bought some GB games for real cheap because the ¨save function is broken¨.
>>739183632The "hardware" that people care about is actually the PCB and chipsets. No one cares about the encasing and no one cares about the battery. It's why you get so many people modding consoles to replace the screens or making them more ergonomic or changing the form factor.
>>739182531You bros have no idea how good it feels knowing I have hundreds of thousands on old vidya I collected through out the years>>739183129Stupid is when you wake up early to go to your local target and buy out all the pokemon cards to make a 100

>>739184181

>>739184956>>739185010>>739185120Lets be honest. You didn't beat the game if you didn't beat it in 1996 on original hardware. Even if you went back and beat it now on a game boy, you still didn't beat the game because you already passively know too much about pokemon and how it works, therefore giving you an unfair advantage.I'm the only one ITT who actually beat the game.
>>739183170are you a female?

why do people spend so much on handheld slop?just buy a chinkheld for 30-150 dollars that comes with every game and console for free
>>739186590Because I haven't opened that drawer in over 10 years.I had a general awareness, like "I own a number of Pokemon games from GBA and DS era, but I forget which of (this set, like Diamond/Pearl/Plat, etc.) I have." I know most of my shovelware and weird titles instantly.>PMD: Seekers of Sky, Mario Pinball, that one shovelware Jimmy Neutron GBA game, etc. Also fuck you, vitriolic shit.
>>739183040No one is buying pokemon games at these princes.Resellers are going to garage sales and buying up pokemon product for pennies then advertising them for 1000% mark up. If you actually go to their stores you can haggle them down about $20-$30. I needed a copy of Metroid Prime 2 and the store wanted $80, but I managed to talk him down to $35. They desperately need the cash.
>>739182864>>739182916>>739182939doesnt replacing the battery make you lose your save?
>>739187315Yes but so does it dying. Well, TECHNICALLY if the RAM in the game were still retained (ie, the game were still on and its connection uninterrupted) you could then save onto the new battery. HOWEVER some games, such as Pokemon Gold, do things like clock time checks that I believe require the battery to function at all times. If this is the case you'd have a very short time window to do the swap on, so short that at this point it's impractical. I don't even know if the batter completes the circuit either, so if not then this whole thing is moot.
>>739187620*so if so, this whole thing is mootI need sleep
>>739186975>Also fuck you, vitriolic shit.I see you can't seem to remember what website you're on, either.

>>739183248you should do that

God why are Pokemon threads so faggy
>>739187889The battery is always running to maintain the data, they all died eventually and so has yours.

>>739187084>Resellers are going to garage sales and buying lmao, nigga you couldn't even do that a decade ago. Retro vidya in general was largely looted from the wild by the beginning of the 2010s. >buy bootleg yellow for 5 bucks>flash correct rom >solder battery Works like the original even on pokemon stadium
>>739187889There are ways to dump the save data onto a computer.

Don't the new ali repros come with a flash memory instead of a battery based one? That'd make them objectively the best version to play with a cart.
I've got like 3 copies of each gba game and won't sell em
>>739194659That's good if you only play on gameboy but those aren't compatible with pokemon stadium.Good thing is you can mod them back so they work on stadium.
>>739194829Damn, I knew there had to be a catch.Just like the gba repros having unreliable RNG (or battle frontier not working at all on repros)
>>739194954You can reflash any rom on most repros so if you flash the original Rom and solder a battery they work just like the originalshttps://youtube.com/shorts/4Dpt-ybA_bA
Physical gamers been like "its cheaper for the consumer" but instead of buying the $10 download they fight gay niggas on Ebay for 10,000 print Strictly Limited Games release.
>>739195182Doesn't that kind of defeat the whole point of the flash memory? Might as well just grab a battery based repro and call it a day.
>>739187315Not necessarily.>>739183040>50 euros>expensiveLMAOYou guys are fucking stupid. New games are 70-80 euros.
>>739185695>what is supply and demandHow many people have boxes? How many people have boxes in good condition with all the inserts?Think before posting again.
>>739189363Pokemon is the one thing I grew out of. And its sad because Ive acquired so much Pokeshit. Most of it worthless. Even the cards, highest valued on "TCG Player" which I guess is what the kids use for value,is $3.
>>739195368The modified rom is designed to save on the same eeprom chip where the rom is, those chips are designed for limited writes, its not flash and that way will broke way sooner than a battery running out. That's why they don't work on pokemon stadium.I prefer to mod the repros with batteries so they work with the stadium games and because I have the flasher I can easily backup the save every mow and then.
>>739195371>New gameYeah, and that piece of plastic is 26 years old.
>>739187315>>739187620You can use a GBC gameshark cart, use its savestate function to save an image of the game's RAM, replace the battery on the game cartridge, and then put it back in the gameshark and load the savestate and save the game normally.
>>739195809I don't see how that's relevant. Present a rational argument, if you can. If anything old things can be more expensive than new things.
>>739194005Specifically poorfags who can only afford loose cartridgesI kept the boxes for all my old games and I always buy new ones complete in box because I'm not poor
>>739195904this is a brilliant idea. 乙!
>>739195904there are a lot of ways like this. but just fucking emulate it. I have tons of original copies of games and I always just emulate it and just have those games just to have. it's retarded to play it on an actual game boy or whatever now. and you know if you do it the game boy is modded with a backlight and all that shit. just fuck off everyone who thinks you need the real thing because you're not even using the original console/handheld either. I mean I have replayed red/blue/yellow on my pokemon special edition gbc before but it was already many years ago since the last time. emulation is fine and I prefer it now.
>>739182531still got mine
>>739184181i had two copies of emerald, one with a caseI sold them for about $125 without the case and $250 for the one with it a few years ago.

>>739182916>>739182939>>739183170Well, yeah. You can replace the battery. But then again you don't have the original battery, tabs or the soldering job. It's like if you collect coins and clean them. You're just diminishing the item's history.
>>739199128And plenty of GB games are cheaper than Pokemon Yellow. What's your point?
>>739200439>It's like if you collect coins and clean themThis is a subjective preference of the ancient coins market. The videogame market doesn't care about changing the battery.
Can't you just download an emulator and the game and play it for free?
>>739200521Whoa dude you really can do that? Me and all the opther people who buy retro games didn't know about that!
>>739183040They're all put at that price in the stores I check too in EU.I just look for places where people sell their games to pawn shops instead, usually it's closer to 20$ to 30$.Still absolutely zero fucking luck finding a HGSS cartridge though, they're always at 100$ and more.
>>739183170If you didnt beat the entire game on the original cartridge battery, you did not actually beat the game
>>739200521the plastic cult doesn't get off on that
>>739182531I google pokemon rom and get one billion results.
>>739200519And yet they want box and manual. Hypocritical!
>>739200439This is more akin to keeping a car or an old ship running, replacing things is just the nature of entropy. This is probably the least egregious case too since it's just a piece of inconsequential metal inside the cart you never see and it actually maintains a very key function of playing the game,
>>739183743>No one cares about the encasingYes, they do. Original stickers and cases are extremely important in the physical market. Third-party cases imply poor care or knockoffs.
>>739200937You get better prices on second hand sites. >>739191364You'll never get it sealed 100% again. You'll always know you cracked that baby open and ruined it's insides.
>>739201919What? It's all a matter of preference, nothing hypocritical about it.
>>739203010>muh plastic has to be pure!>women? I'll take one that other men have cummed inside, thanks
Hello? Yes I'd like to invest in video games
>>739202015Fuck you, your car is garbage if you don't have the original gas from the factory
Shouldn't yellow be the rarest one since it never got a remake version?
>>739203952Its remake is a TV show which might still be ongoing
>>739182531Bump
>>739203952Isn't Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee a remake of it more than R&B? You get the three starters like you do in Yellow iirc
>>739202015if you change your car's oil you have destroyed its history
>>739209019It'll be a real short history if you don't.
Is there a guide on how to find a propah GB/GBC for those who want a retro device?I started out with the GBSP AGS-001 in the Emerald era. I keep seeing Gameboys on vidya cons but they're all priced differently even if they're the same "mint" condition.
>>739183170>>739183190What retard schizo shit is this?
>>739195659Hitting the write limit on a gameboy game's flash memory is basically going to be impossible .
>>739198154Yeah nigger.
>>739211242What do you want out of the system matters more than anything. I have a GBA SP, Gameboy Micro and a Gameboy Player running via Gameboy Interface to a CRT. The latter is obviously the best way to play in practically all respects if portability means nothing to you. Otherwise you want a GBA SP AGS-101.
>>739211949Just want my own Gameboy and GBC.Also my SP is AGS-101 with the backlight, not the original one.
>>739183662I do 50 pushups daily. No big deal Crom
>>739212119Just buy whatever you want in that case. Since you aren't going for the best possible experience something that looks externally fine should also run just fine. For GBC anything will do but keep in mind that the Gameboy had three revisions, the Light of which had a backlit screen. How representative this is of the average Gameboy experience is debatable, however, and once you start going for quality of life you find yourself back at solutions like the Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player.
>>739183662>I've bought some GB games for real cheap because the ¨save function is broken¨Haven't seen these since covid. Most people are fully aware that it's a 5 minute job these days.
>>739182531>people actually boughted and played on a console called GayBoy
>>739182531I'm guessing these are clone carts given the low prices>>739183040Scalpers and speculators latched onto pokemon as an easy flip since covid. The games were already high price retainers because there aren't any other real ways to play them in an official capacity now that 3DS eshop closed down and the only reason you'd care about official is if you're either a streamer that's operating under scrutiny or if you're looking to transfer your pokemon over for tournament play, but every other piece of pokemon media, especially the cards, are also constant targets for reseller sprees.
>>739184295>Why doesn't Nintendo do another run of these games and cash in on the retro hype themselves? They put two of the games on eshop (and XD Gale of Darkness on NSO) and everybody spent the whole month bitching and moaning about how awful Nintendo is for doing that.
>>739212779porting any game without adding home support is retarded and I'm impressed the bootlickers had the awareness to realize that much

I bought one of those rewritable carts and put a patched Silver on it that fixes some bugs like certain balls being literally broken and enabling the GS Ball event. I ended up buying a replacement case and a sticker too. Probably spent like $40-50 total on a new cart that looks cool, improves the game, has a new battery that can also be replaced easily without soldering, and works with actual hardware, including Stadium 2 with the transfer pak.And if you don't need actual carts then you just download that shit for free and play it on whatever the fuck you want. >>739217128Harder to steal. Can't easily stuff it under your clothes and breaking it open wasn't possible to do quietly or quickly without someone noticing. You lived in a shit neighborhood if stores used these.
>>739182531>out of boxlol get the fuck out of here with this shit
>>739229231carts are basically a motherboard with some reas only storage, ram and other stuff.that's why it needs a battery to keep saves, memory is volatile and loses everything without power.
>>739211628>had the steelbook Silent Hill 2 edition>thought the game was shit and didn't play it>Dad gave it away to our Ukranian step cousins (along with the PS2 and the rest of our games)
>>739229259>You lived in a shit neighborhood if stores used these.we also had these and I lived in binland, which was basically high trust society back then
>>739229338I know how why the battery is needed, that wasn't my point. Are other components not going to wear out or are motherboards by design impervious to that?
What would be the best place for a yuropoor to sell a near perfect condition Fire Red cartridge/box/GBA adapter? Asking for a friend
I got a bug to buy old games too. But I probably won't go much farther than this.
>>739229061thx ;)
>>739229103>>739229585
>>739225827>Paying for retro games is a scam.Everything is a fucking scam in the modern day. It's all rent-seekers infiltrating any reasonably popular hobby to try and extract dollars from you by any means imaginable, and the brainless retard consumers who enable them
>>739229614I've got a copy SoulSilver, complete with box, manual and pokewalker. My DS doesn't work thobeit
>>739229417they are pretty static components so last a while.it's still dumb to pay so much, you can probably get blanks and a flashing machine for that price.
There's no point collecting cartridges if you want to play. They're the most horribly inconvenient and impractical ways to do so. I've replaced multiple batteries and soldered PERFECTLY just to have the save file mysteriously wipe itself again. I've since modded a psp go and never looked back.
>>739183228But I already did, fecaloid. My loving parents bought it for me as a child.
>>739229773why would anyone choose this over a chinese handheld, hand cramp and a terrible screen and awful emulation performance and no shaders. used psp go's are also like 10x the cost of a chinese handheld that's 10x better
>>739229559>'yeah, I'm really into old games'>just fucking Nintendo with literally 50% Pokemon/MarioYou've got the bug alright.
>>739229702So do I.
>>739229852I've been running a Miyoo Mini Plus that has a great screen (way better than I expected for the price), good performance for anything up to PS1 and adjustable shaders. Hand cramp is where you are right, but you can also buy a stand that makes it much better. It's not 2010 anymore, the chinkheld market is actually pretty decent with some models.
>>739229614U jelly?
>>739229947nice charizard bro
>>739229980thanks you can have it bro
>>739229935>tfw
>>739182531I'm still mad at younger me for putting a massive sticker on my Yellow cartridge that covered the whole label.
>>739230304I had a friend who would just throw all his game boxes and booklets into the trash, man it hurt even back then. I bought his Zelda Oracle of Ages cartridge and I couldn't believe he just trashed everything.
>>739230454did he do the same with playstation games and stuffdid he just put them in cd case like a psychopath?
>>739229947Now imagine showing this to a nerdy pokemon girl and pretending you own the card.
>>739230454I had a cousin that genuinely had some of the currently most expensive Pokemon games (Emerald, Platinum, XD Gale of Darkness) and you know who got them all? Gamestop, for in-store credit so he could buy CoD:MW2.
>>739230676I showed thhis to my wife and told her I own it shes riding my dick as I write this
