Why is this series so famous when most of the games aren't good?
>>739186921It's one of the original console horror franchises. Also I'd argue that none of the games are good, unless you're counting Haunting Ground as a Clock Tower game.
>>739186921Aren't the first two good? The SNES and PS1 one? I remember thinking the PS1 Clock Tower was kinda neat.
>>739186921We didn't have much choice when it came to horror games when the first one's fan translation dropped.
>>739186921I suppose the SNES one being good and japanese only for the longest time gave it a sense of exclusivity. You are right though. Even that remake wasnt good. The first clocktower and haunting ground were probably the only two good games in the series.
>>739186921Does Nightcry count?
>>739186921>Why is this series so famous when most of the games aren't good?more common than you think
The first one carries the rest
>>739187267Pretty much this. Late 90s/early 00s if you wanted survival horror that wasn’t Resident Evil you were scraping the barrel. Fan-translated Clock Tower felt like some forbidden kino relic from Japan, so people hyped it up like it was the second coming.Doesn’t matter that half the tension comes from tank controls and prayer RNG. When you’re 14 and playing a janky SNES horror game at 2am, that shit hits different. Nostalgia doing 90% of the heavy lifting for the brand.
>>739188010looks trash and stupid who the fuck plays these
>>739188613i kno right? its so stupid and dum dum
>>739187250No actually only the third one is good. Because a mediocre survival horror is still better than a point and click
I love the clock tower series, even the bad last game. Get the stick out of your ass
Might aswell ask before the thread dies, but there's a patch for the SNES version (I think) that has mouse support, the thing is that there's two versions of the patch contained within the zip file, which of the two should I patch it with?
>>739186921Bates is just that based.
>>739186921Clock Tower is great. Get over yourself.
1 was fun to play for the shock value at the time and figuring out how to get the different endings. Adventure games are fun like that sometimes but are more often than not annoying bullshit. It felt dated then and would feel even more dated now. 2 leaned into the bullshit and was agonizingly unfun. 3 is honestly a fun game with tremendous camp value and worth playing. It's a precursor to Haunting Ground.
>>739186921They were accessible horror games with multiple endings. They're no longer special because there are a bajillion of them now, but back then they were the one of the only non-action horror games.
>>739186921Respect for elders. Established a bunch of shit about horror video games that we take for granted now. Also executed a bunch of shit that even devs today have trouble with.I mean, the game isn't pure "touch the enemy and lose life bar", or "touch the enemy and die". Take a look at how badly the subnautica idiots are handling "no real combat in a hostile world". in below zero vs this game.
>>739187250The second one is terrible. Full of long boring intermissions and the game is hideous unlike 1
>>739187267>>739188563 Eh, horror video games have been a a minor but consistent thing. Horror games that de emphasized fighting even rarer. Survival horror wasn't coined as a phrase until the PS era. >>7391898351 was really a well made consolized version of the Sierra style games, with all the pluses and minuses that comes with it.
I remember being introduced to this series by retsupurae
Why haven't more games borrowed the control scheme from the first game.Point and click but movement divorced from clicking is pure ludo
Wonder if Capcom will do an RE Engine remake of Clock Tower 3 at some point.
Clock Tower PS1 is awesome you boomers just got filtered
