I think Nintendo is moving away from generalized Directs, for first party games.At this point they're starting to catch on that they're more disappointing to the general audience than dropping trailers individually.Yes a lot of people tune in at once, but everyone wants their specific game announced. When the Direct is 30 minutes of a new Yoshi game, a port of Luigi's Mansion, and maybe a teaser for a new Fire Emblem (which FE fans will like, but not everyone) then the total number of disappointed people is greater than excited people.Also having a bunch of games announced at once is no longer optimal with longer dev times of the current gen. Better to stagger hype on a per game basis to keep the excitement going.

Fuck Directs. I miss E3. Enthusiasm for gaming noticeably declined with its dissolution, and for what? Getting games slowly dripfed so that the pajeet devs don't feel rushed? The game awards? Nintendo's made it clear that Switch 2 Editions will either be generic performance boosts, or completely new expansions that aren't tightly woven into the main game. They aren't going to let Switch 1 players fight against characters from the Switch 2 Edition, they aren't going to give up the massive opportunity to make everyone buy a new $80 Smash, over an optional upgrade. They've always threatened Sakurai with just "porting the next Smash over but with X or Y added". Nintendo wants a new Smash, Sakurai would choose a new Smash over a port 99% of the time.
