there's no case where you want to hold a crouch and jump on the exact same frame so crouch on C makes sense to use your thumb if you dont need to jump, if you need to crouch jump you have half the jump animation to press C so placement doesn't matter at that point, and sprint > crouch for slides is better to have both of them using different fingers even if you have both of them on toggle because you're less likely to misinput

All fingers are curved to rest gently on the keys with the thumb resting on the space bar. The pinky naturally sits a little further back than the other fingers. Nobody has ever taught me to do this and I never had any difficulty for a moment figuring out what felt comfortable. Millions of years of evolution has given us complex brains and opposable thumbs so that we can intuitively find natural and ergonomic ways to hold tools.
