also took out ronin cran and the dried king from last time. enhanced mode changed his sword/axe to be waaay better. removed slow hitter from it, which makes a lot of sense because the item description says its a fast and light weapon.

I sometimes think about replaying it. I beat it once long ago. Then I think about playing the sequel but I heard that one made some "interesting" choices gameplay wise and might be worth not bothering with.

i like dark souls as well. they scratch different itches in terms of artstyle, music, and even down to the basic game mechanics. salt has a ton of unique features that really makes it shine and stand out from poppa dark souls.

i'm definitely going to take a peek at sacrifice again, but take it slower.
i think salt 1 is worth a replay once in a while, there's lots of weapons and the devs introduced built in enemy/item randomizer and enhanced mode which balances the game a bit better and changes the flags and stats on the weapons. so a weapon that was really bad might have hp leech or extra blades or some other modifier that really makes it work now. but you can always play the original mode too if you want extra OP greatswords

I haven't touched it for years and the dev recently went back to it and did a major patch rebalancing the game and rearranging the enemies.

I replayed again before the game started receiving official support again, with a balance patch I found. Mostly equalized things but it was nice running something like a dex poison dagger + whip build, and having it actually work. Whittling bosses down with poison DoTs.

third lamb's up in the dome and i think it's definitely a difficulty spike, especially after the inquisitor guy who is a complete pushover. imo the early-midgame has a good trio of decently difficult fights, esp for new players. dragon -> tree of men -> piece of shit ass pirate. and then the game calms down a bit

Yeah, I forget if spears suck or I built my tree wrong, second time around I had a 2hand with a magic buff and the whole game was different. Then later I found the gold potion which is the only way to get a second damage buff afaik.

spears are fine the problem is that tree of men has 500 slash def lol compared to 100 strike def and 50 in all elemental (but 250 fire and -40 electric in enhanced mode)
so you were 100% getting cucked by the damage type, which sucks. also yeah goldenwine and magic is insane

I liked the first one but was the sequel even good? I didn't play it. I was so fucking disappointed when I found out how generic the bosses in the second game are

I like the designs in the sequel because it feels like a nice shift from grungy to more colorful fantasy. I like the aesthetic of 1 more for sure, but it's just nice to see them shift into another look. It's kinda like going from dark souls 1 to 2 (i like how ds2 looks, forgive me). However, there's so many dude bosses in sacrifice because it's about hunting mages. Some of the mage designs are really cool but unfortunately they all ended up as bipedal dudes. I'm pretty sure there's no mages that go outside of that basic human structure. The non mage bosses are also a ton of dudes in armor. There's some non bipedal bosses, but i do feel like the variety is hindered.

They didn't really do a 2nd. I've heard Ska Studios doesn't really do sequels, they just move on to a different genre. This game is the Castlevania/Souls genre, and Salt & Sacrifice it seems is supposed to be much more of the Monster Hunter/giant field boss in an mmo style of game.

Also I played Charlie Murder and I don't remember a damn thing about it

I just learned taht the ashen effigy has thorns on it and that it stacks with the lamprey armor to reflect damage. Pretty decent tanky build if you upgrade the armor all the way

I went a on replay-spree after the balance update dropped, and got all the achievements.
The game's fast pace, almost arcady-feel makes it very easy to just blast through areas. And it's not so long that it feels exhaustive.
