Consumer reports claims that roughly 45% of new cars nowadays don't come with a spare tire by default. This is becoming the new normal. That said the tire repair kit is quite cool and much better for your car than driving on the donut anyway. Depending on the hole and how well you do the repair, you're really getting the tire back to just as good as it was before. Not an excuse to not have the spare though, you aren't patching anything in the sidewall for example.

Changing the pads and rotors on my car is around 250 dollars, but a mechanic would easily charge 800+, likely a grand.
