Damn. What went wrong?
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/embracer-announces-plan-to-split-into-2-companies-as-tomb-raider-and-lotr-spun-off/

You're telling me that buying a shit ton of companies too quickly is a bad idea?
>>
>>739226645
The plan was fine when they thought they had a Saudi company willing to buy them. Buy up a bunch of IPs to sell for even more money. The problem was the buyer backed out and they got left with a million puzzle pieces that don't fit together and a shitload of debt.
>>

Gambling mentality of private equity scammers. They thought it was an amazing idea to buy as many studios as possible and then resell them with a huge margin. But then turned out studios were bleeding money between releases, and they don't have a buyer
>>

>>739227495
that plan hardly makes sense
why would the strategy of randomly buying companies and reselling them for more work in the first place?
Why would saudis want a bunch of underperforming studios
>>
I don't care about any of their IPs except for deus ex and I don't think there are any plans to make a new one anyway

>Why would saudis want a bunch of underperforming studios
The Saudis want to wash themselves to be a tourist friendly country not reliant on oil and slave labor.
>>

Every gulf state is trying to diversify away from oil because they know that oil isn't gonna last forever.
>>
>>739227661
Well, you see the sad state of modern culture, when even video game adaptations earn hundreds of millions in theatres? They saw that potential in IPs, and it would work if they had money, but they overspend in the hope that a deal will happen soon
>>
>>739227792
I'm almost afraid of how bad the middle east is going to chimp out the day oil stops being profitable.

>company called embracer group
>they Embrace, extend, and extinguish
Who wrote this script

The EAU is successful in the tech field but they imported so many south asians that they're 70% of their population and the moment the oil dries up they will probably fall into civil war

You diversify because you want to expand your profitability to other industries. General Mills was doing fine with foodstuffs (it's not like wheat was going to run out) but in the 1970s they ran toy companies, a restaurant business, and some stuff with textiles. The Michigan Plating & Stamping Company didn't start buying other companies because making car bumpers wasn't profitable, it was because they wanted to go to different businesses, acquiring dozens of factories and firms nationwide, and later Simon & Schuster, Paramount Pictures, and Sega. HFS International, which owned Days Inn and Howard Johnson, merged with another company that had bought Sierra On-Line and Davidson & Associates (which owned Blizzard) a few years earlier. American Cyanamid manufactured everything from Pine-Sol to Zyklon B.

If you had tons of money in a business, why wouldn't you go looking for something else?
>>
>Saints Row reboot flopping killed the studio and its parent company
lol
>>
>>739226587
Didn't embracer betray gamers by going full dei?
>>
>>739228271
I still remember when embracer said they were anti sjw. What happened????
>>
>>739228340
Dude, they are bleeding money; they sucked every possible circumcised dick to prolong their agony. But have to admit, they usually scammed such investors. I am pretty sure 80% of the budget of nuSaints Row was repurposed
>>
I really fucking hate it when the first place I hear about shit that will impact my job is on a mongolian merkin weaving forum.

At least I get to go and live with dad by the sounds of it.
>>
>>739227018
The plan was fine assuming that the Saudi buyer is a retard who doesn't see what they are doing. The plan failed because the Saudi buyer wasn't retarded.

Typically you diversify so all your eggs aren't in one basket and a downturn in a single industry doesn't tank your entire company, it's way more important than just profit.
