Should more games include gun jamming?
>>
>>739262984
no, they don't jam like that in real life if you're going for realism.

It's almost never done right
>gun is in perfect condition
>real world counterpart is insanely reliable
>starts jammig after going through 3 mags
>>

Guns most definitely jam like that. Its called a stovepipe, its probably the most common failure to eject.
>>
>>739263310
I think he meant that the conditions for a gun jam to occur in games are often unrealistic.
You have a brand new or a well maintained gun with high quality ammo with an actual trained operator using the weapon, it's still going to be a dice throw on each shot whether it jams or not.
The devs do it to not make the system actually meaningful instead of making it so rare nobody ever sees it since pretty much everyone maintains their gear as meticulously as possible in games where it's an option, but it's honestly pretty retarded.
>>
when it's featured in a game they go overboard with it like >>739263215 says
it should super rare unless the gun is busted

Feels like it could have fit into Far Cry: New Dawn, since a lot of weapons are just scavenged guns that were made to work in the post-apocalypse.
>>
>>739263102
But they do jam like that. I've had jams with an SA80. They are mostly because of faulty magazines also poor weapon condition.
>>
I think it should be a thing that only happens when the gun is in a state you really shouldn't let it get to to begin with
Like if you're maintaining and repairing your guns it'll never happen, it should basically serve the same purpose as the yellow armor popup in WoW
>>
>>739263813
The system worked in Far Cry 2. If you pick up an old shotgun it most definitely will jam.
>>
>>739263813
What games are you playing with guns in impeccable condition jamming up constantly? In Stalker, Fallout, or Far Cry the guns aren't brand new out of the factory and you don't have proper specialized maintenance tools and equipment for them even if they were.
>>
>>739262984
Yes because it provides an additional advantage to using revolvers.
>>
>>739263102
I could see this happening if your magazine was crappy. The gun tries to cycle but the magazine is slow to get the next round into the chamber so the empty gets choked in the ejection port when the slide snaps back.
>>
>>739262984
I like it, adds tension to firefights. The "ah, you have to be fucking kidding me" feeling is nice
>>
>>739263102
What are you talking about? That's a stovepipe, those definitely happen.
>>
>>739262984
This >>739263215
Video games are never to scale with real life realism. Therefore it would be a useless mechanic if done realistically and a annoying mechanic if made to matter.

This is a place for mods for people who want to turn Bethesda games or Stalker games into ball busting survival sims. Not for the core audience.
>>
>>739262984
Yeah but also make it possible for enemy guns to jam, enemies in Stalker and Far Cry 2 have fully functioning firearms until they drop them on the ground which instantly rusts and damages the weapon.
>>
Mights as well also add shit and piss mechanics to the game
Imagine how immervise it would be for you to need to shit while in the middle of a gunfight
>>
>>739266291
It does happen because of magazines.

If the spring in the mag is damaged, if the top part of th magazine is bent or damaged, if the magazine is in poor condition overall it can cause jams.

If the weaponns barrel is dirty, bent, damaged or has faulty gas parts or damaged gas parts that can also cause jams.

Weapons do jams in video games that use jamming mechanics like stalker and similar games usually have weapons jam when you are using weapons that are in poor condition which is realistic.

>get achievement for beating x amount of gunfights non-lethally because you shat and pissed yourself so the bad guys leave you alone thinking you’re a retard
>>
>>739266471
I think it worked in America's Army, because that game was autistic enough to match the real rate of jamming for guns so you barely ever saw it but when you did it was often enough to ruin your match.
>>
since when has gun jamming been in stalker 2? what have they added since launch anyways
>>
>>739265550
The guns degrade way too fast and have unrealistic catastrophic malfunctions.
Shotguns are also some of the most mechanically reliable guns.
>>739265786
>In Stalker, Fallout, or Far Cry the guns aren't brand new out of the factory
How would you know this?
Especially in Fallout, the guns that come from the gun runners are factory new.
When it comes to Stalker and Far Cry, what is stopping some of the guns from being factory new?
As for the maintenance part, that would hold true for Far Cry (since there is no way to maintain the weapons), but not Stalker or Fallout, some of the mechanics have proper workshops, those most definitely would have specialized maintenante tools and equipment.
Anyways, a gun at around 80% condition should not jam every other mag, that gun should be slightly used, not nearing the end of it's life.

Boy, do I have the game for you!
>>
>>739267615
I remember playing this back when it was first released, joined a deathmatch event and my dude had a bout of diarrhea during it.
Has it improved at all during the past 8 or so years?
>>
>>739263102
they do
what surprised me the most when I first started shooting guns is how often this shit happens, video games and movies made them look invincible but irl every small variable changes and you can open a jam factory
