>use shitty $15 headphones for over a decade>rich gamer friend lends me one of his older pro-gamer ones ($300) so I can find out what I've been missing out on all these years>it literally sounds worse on top of being twice the weight/strain on my earsCan someone please explain this to me?How is this even physically possible? If I go outside right now and claim a 15-buck headphone is better than a 300 one then I will literally get called a lunatic.
The most expensive gamer headset is leagues worse than the cheapest open back sennheiser headphone
>>739265870I got the older version of the arctis prois the nova a bit of a downgrade?
do you have any concepts of the ideas of subjectivity or bias?
get some bose, nigga
>>739265870Never listened to either of these headphones myself but in my experience anything marketed as being for gamers is lower quality and you're paying extra for RGB lights
>>739265870GDP moment.
All headphones sound like shit, especially the gaymer ones. They are expensive mainly because consumers think expensive=better and nowadays people demand gimmicks like active noise canceling
>>739265870>pro-gamer ones ($300)Like 99% of anything "gaming" related when it comes to audio is usually trash. There's a reason why everyone in the know always recommends to get HEADPHONES and not a HEADSET.
>>739266095Explain further.
all the shit marketed towards gamer is bass boosted to shit since they know all you listen to is rap
>>739265870Those cheap Sony headphones are simply a nice piece of work. Purchased a pair when I started uni in 2011 and they lasted about 6 years before the left side hinge gave out. Even then, the audio was still working on that side.
>>739266030KOSS for me
always used wired headphones
>>739265870I had wired pair of these that I'd been using ever since I won them during the graduation party in highschool. They went to shit, and would only work if you bent the cord a certain way, so I bought the next number higher, the wireless ones. What a crock a shit, you can use them across the house, but unless you have an audio mixer it feels like you're listening to music through a tin can phone.Even with the mixer they still sound off, but I got used to them.Don't buy these fucking things. Thanks for reading my blog.
>not using thisenjoy your gamer dent retard
I wonder if there is a thing like neutral sound in game development. Most gaming gear is made so it amplified bass or treble over more accurate sound. That is because objectively having that "rumble" typical of v-shaped headphones is more fun than having a balanced flat sound signature, especially in games with lots of sound effects like explosions and so on.
>>739265870I compared both of them and this seemed a little shocking.I'm no audio expert though.>>739267002Every time mine failed I just bought the exact same one again. The only reason they even failed is because I used to accidentally yank it off my head too often.
>>739265870You need to plug it into an audio interface that isnt your shitty integrated motherboard ports
>>739265870Just buy some HD 600 Ive had mine for like 15 years
>>739267406boosted treble is a competitive FPS thing, so they can hear footsteps over the gunfire.
I replaced my headphone covers for the first time in 10 years recently. There was a literal decades worth of earwax and shit behind it and suffused within the earpad material.I hand laundered the old pads for shits and giggles and the water literally turned black as I handwashed them. It took almost 40 minutes of repeatedly washing and wringing them until they became hygienic again
>>739267431>wireless
Oh boy is this the weekly sennheiser shill thread where people tell you to buy 300+ bucks headphones?
>>739267550goddamn I love Marie
>>739265870Wait till you buy kilobuck headphones like me and have to return them because they have 3 db of channel imbalance ayoThe audiophile industry is gangrened by complacent fools who heed the false shepherd reviewers' word and who denounce neither them or the lying manufacturers(0.5db promised balance suddenly turns to at least 1.5 to 3 depending on models IME) that often have poor after sales support making obtaining earpads and headbands more difficult than it should be on purposeSeems some IEM brands have good quality but IEMs are unusable over long periods(ear pain, sore ear canal skin)The cheap Sony headphones tend to have shit tier ear pads however, you should consider changing your headphones if you really have been using ZX110s for over a decade
>>739267431>>739267613I plugged the little black box that comes with it directly into my PC (USB), then the Nova connects wirelessly to the box, my friend said that this headset has the best sound quality when you use it wireless, but I still find that hard to believe. The headset is also supposed to be able to go wired, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Should I connect the headset to that box with a wire (audio/usb)...?
>>739267619If Sennies are too expensive for your broke ass then you can always get some audiotechnicas
I can tell that the moment I switched to quality headphones I heard sounds that I previously hadn't even realized are in the game at all.
>>739267406Human hearing is more sensitive to mids. The typical V or U shaped curve is literally what "neutral" sounds like
>>739267749How much do you get paid to shill them here on /v/? actually curious about this
Best headphone i've ever used was a cheap one i bought at a department store in 2010. Too bad it didn't last long. I've bought expensive ones too but i feel like the industry regressed. They don't make em as good anymore.
>>739266962V shaped with a 10db bass/subbass boost is ok, it helps when using at non ear rape volumes
i'm pretty sure my mdr v6s are counterfeit but i don't know if truly flat studio headphones just sound that way
>>739267745ask ai you fucktard
>>739265870How are they supposed to sell you another pair if they don't sound audibly off? You can fix the sound with more expensive mods, equalizer tweaks that never sound quite right, and other bullshit that you get tired of setting up, so they can sell you another pair again.>>739266030Yup. Not just gamer, a majority of the dogshit bluetooth buds and cans on the market today too
>>739267406It would be something like an etymotic ER2SE or sennheiser HD 6 series but with a slight bass boost to make it less recededthat would make it closest to actually being there in the game world, but most people prefer vshaped or speaker emulating(effectively more bass and less treble compared to dead flat)
>>739267745The important moment for good headphones is the conversion from digital to analog. Likely the "little black box" is supposed to handle that, but if you use wireless, a module in the headphones has to do it. This could mean worse results, audio needs room.
>>739268046v6 isn't flat. they've got a bass boost and a weird dip in the mids.
>>739267619The HD598 do the job for me. For like 7+ years now I think. I think 150 bucks is a nice sweetspot. I wont shill their audio profile, you do you in that regard but the airyness and lightweightness of them that u dont even notice wearing them is a big plus for me.

I want anons' opinions on IEM (in ear monitors)I did research for headphones for a few weeks and it seems going for over head headphones in 2026 is redundant when you can just order a sub 100 buck chink fi IEM and get sound isolation + better sound quality than flagship sound isolation headphones without disadvantages like screwing glass wearers, screwing people living in hot places, screwing people without expensive DAC/AMP, giving you tyler1 headdent, hurting your ears etc (unless you get one of those overpriced big iems with 15 drivers). It sounds like everything I can ask for. Bonus: Seems like it's the choice of tryhard gamers for free wallhacks not to imply it's bad for music listening. The only two downsides I can think of are:-Unusable for people with bad ear hygiene-You like throwing your headphones around which will break IEM instantlyHow can anything else compete?
>>739266069I had the OG Arctis 7 and those had built in chatmix on board the hardware itself, which the "Nova Pro Wireless" does not have unless you have some gay software.
>>739269550"sound isolation headphones" aren't flagship.most high-end headphones are completely open back, even, for a more airy and natural sound.
>>739269550Wew did you really research? How come you didn't mention soundstage? What about headphone bass/treble compared to an IEM? Head dents? Do you really believe this crap?
>vmoda m100 + vmoda boom micI miss this company like you wouldn't believe
>>739269550IEMs are not comfortable, period. I refuse to believe niggas who act like headphones are painful and sweaty to wear compared to IEMs. I've owned most of the popular meme sets and I use them anyway mainly for isolation and the fact that they just sound better than headphones
>>739265870I fell for the meme and bought an expensive pair once. Never again. I could barely tell the difference between my 50 dollaridoo headphones.
>>739269775pretty good mic.modded 3.5mm sockets into my other headphones so i could keep using it.

>>739269734>Head dents? Do you really believe this crap? No, I was exaggerating in bad faith (even though I know difference between gamer marketed headsets and studio reference headphones) but I still had to bring it up because it's so funny

Had a pair of KOSS cans that lasted me well over a decade. They don't kid about that lifetime warranty you send them in they'll fix them and send them back.
They hate HD 600 because it solved headphones
>>739270158Stretching out the band helps, I work as an audio technichian so its my literal day job to wear them, but yeah they'll hurt like hell at first. I haven't used picrel a whole helluva lot for games (only playing some HL2 while at work once). But they have a really good audio range and are so light weight and comfy I don't even notice them on my head. I've sat for nearly 7hrs straight editing with them on and I really like them.
>>739265870Did you actually have the hardware to support the expensive headphones? You can't just plug them in and expect them to work. There is such a thing as diminishing returns however, and 300 won't sound much different from 100~ or so.
>>739265870Fuck it, might as well ask here. I need a new set of headphones and I have no idea where to start. Price isn't necessarily a huge issue but I'm not a huge audiofag either, mainly looking for something durable.
Upgate/sidegrad to my HD 600Ive got some Argon mk3 too
>>739265870>Can someone please explain this to me?Gamer headsets are cheap shit sold to drooling retards who don't know any better, a good headphone, even a cheap one, can last for decades
>>739271578Price range around $150 will get you more than respectable everyday use headphones. Don't try to spend below $50. Don't buy used. Try to stick with the big names like Sony, Sennheiser, Audio-technica. I use Audio-technica Ath-m30s from a decade ago, the components are all perfect still but the earpads themselves have decayed with age, no big deal to me though. These are $80 headphones now.
>>739271676the beyers are the only good headphones in this image

>>739272821>I can't hear myselfWhat?
Comfort is all that matters. I'm one of those dysgenic freaks with my ears too far down on the lower 1/3 of my head still haven't found a pair that's comfortable and doesn't start crushing my head after 20 minutes.
>>739272821Noise canceling is an optional feature, bro...
I have the same one, might be the best headphones I have ever used.Might be because the best company is the one that can sell the highest quantity.
>>739267406If you mean mixing, yeah of course there is. You mix, or at least should produce the audio mix in a video game the same way you'd produce a movie or music album. With flat studio monitors.
>>739272821You know people often get anxiety attacks when they actually can hear themselves (specifically their own heartbeat).
>>739269550I have Artti T10s and I use them most of the time over my expensive Beyers. The bass is ludicrous though.

>>739265870I have the arctis nova pro, no complaints here. Sure, I could've got regular headphones, but I use them for multiple forms of media, not wanking myself off when listening to music. I have an av receiver, speakers and sub for music when I don't need to use headphones, and the gayming ones also use spatial sound for vidya.
Modmic + portra pros for 100 USD total mogs the shit out of all "gaming headphones"
If you're used to particularly shit headphones then actually good ones will sound like shit in comparison for a little bit just because they're so drastically differentI let my younger brother use my headphones once and he genuinely believed it was worse than his cheap turtle beach headset. Years of listening to nothing but abysmal clarity all around and a complete lack of any definition on the high end had made anything else pretty much unbearable. Everything sounded too sharp, etcSound signature matters a lot too. Fancy expensive neutral studio headphones will sound like shit if you listen to the wrong media with them just as super bass heavy ones or ones more tailored to vocals will with different media. You can absolutely have cheaper headphones that will sound better in your usecase than ones 10x the price
https://a.co/d/00oVK8sNThese might be cheap but these have been one of the most durable headsets I've ever bought. Has them for probably 7-8 years at this point, braided cable, it is USB but whatever. The sound quality is fine for non audiophiles. Poorfags rejoice
You're welcome, enjoy your new experience of the universe without going into debt on bullshit.
>>739267689>often have poor after sales support making obtaining earpads and headbands more difficult than it should be on purposeNot with audiophile price range tier stuff but I've had this trying to get replacement earpads for my headphones, ones I specifically bought because they were designed to have easily replaceable cups and a detachable cableThe plastic clips on the cups started to break so I went to go buy some replacements, none on the official website, none on amazon, none on official retailers for their products. I go to support and after a lengthy back and forth of them trying to follow their flowchart and say 'shits fucked, you need new headphones entirely' I do eventually get a new pair for free off of them. I guess they never actually made spare cups for them or only made a small number since they were really trying to lead the conversation towards a full replacement no matter how much I said I only need the cups.
>>739268713These really aren't very good, they're definitely good for their price but most 'studio' headphones are pretty good value already. I remember getting a pair of these a while ago and the samson sr850s absolutely blew them out the water, not that those are cheap anymore but before they got inflated in price by the dankpods video.
playing the headphones carousel has always led me back to the Koss UR29. Cheap, unkillable and the most important thing: comfortable. If I'd prefer to wearing my old issue kevlar helmet than your expensive headphones your design fucking sucks.

>>739270960You realize sennheiser currently has the best wireless headphones, right (hdb 630)? And before that they still had the best wireless headphones (momentum 4).t. owns way too many headphones
>>739271185Sony MDR 7506s, which I have 2 pairs of are better than all headphones I've used with the exception of stax l700s. They are cheap, durable and there is good detail.
>>739269849If you get really lucky they can be exceptionally comfortable but it's entirely a person to person thing and I don't really understand what makes them different? I've had a few sets of IEMs now and the latest pair I've got fit perfectly, even with the same ear tip size that felt uncomfortable in other ones. I can happily wear them for a whole work day/fall asleep with them in no problemThat definitely wasn't true for the other ones though and while these are the most expensive set I've had it's not like price dictates anything that could change comfort much, nor were the others particularly cheap
>>739270158I have these and have no complaints. They're comfy and sound great.
>>739277002Personally I have regular sized ears with fuckhuge ear holes so the sets that most consider too big, heavy, and too long/wide nozzles like Blessing 2 and Kiwiears Cadenza 1 tend to fit me okay. Whereas highly recommended comfy sets like Chu, Bunny and Gate barely fit. I always use the biggest tips and the seal still breaks if I move my jaw whilst wearing these tiny sets

Your brain tries to figure out the environment by finding patterns in sound waves. Source sound is responsible for setting up a convincing soundstage be it vidya engine or atmospheric music. Do not confuse this soundstage with spatial clarity. Otherwise loudspeakers would grant you wallhacks, but opposite is true. It is very hard to tell where a sound is coming from when using speakers.
>>739283689>iem because they deliver the best sounds. Is this true? I've never listened to an IEM that sounds better than any of my headphones. But maybe that's because I never splurge on expensive IEMs, at most I might buy some sub-$50 IEMs.
>>739283750Not him but it's personal, I like my iems because they are small and light, I could wear them all day, sometimes I fall asleep with one in listening to an audiobook they are that comfortable, a pair of proper cans would deliver "better" sound but there's trade offs all around and I find myself reaching for the iems more often than not
>>739277000Meanwhile 7506 are "Studio" headphones they werent designed for it, they were designed for "Professional" use unlike V6 and CD900ST.

>>739283061the haltron has an uptime of 1700~ hours and the linlai is only around 50 so far. it'll wear out because of the "mechanical" element of the filaments heating up and expanding/contracting like a lightbulb and there's always the risk of shorts and overvoltage, and just the natural loss of the gas inside, but a properly maintained and taken care off tooooobs should last a while.it's a meme "hobby" to be honest. i mean, it's fun, but kinda stupid and pointless. good during the winter though.
These are $50-ish and I find them too expensiveI settle for the $15 ones too.

>>739265870Last year, someone conducted a blind study, and found that self-proclaimed audiophiles could not tell the difference between audio from a "high end" setup vs a signal wired through a literal banana. Some even preferred the latter. It's all placebo.
>>739285060My principle is simple: Just don't buy any headphones/IEM that's above $200. Anything above that is diminishing returns.
Look up what the people mixing everything I'm going to listen to use. Just get that. Audiophile fags can get whatever they want.

>>739285060Nah banana clearly affected sound signature, everyone could tell the sound was "different".Many liked the way bananacable sounds more than normal cable, but that's just personal tuning preference: banana is high impedance, same as commercial impedance adapters.
I have a cheap piece of shit I got for like twenty bucks.I had the ear padding try to peel off of one side, but I took some superglue and glued that bitch right back on. The factory's machine must've just skimped out on that side.Works great.
>>739265870>it literally sounds worseIt probably just sounds different to what you're used to. Especially when you've been using bad headphones for a long time, maybe with a very old or very specific spatial audio solution. Especially when jumping from a very cheap headset to a top of the line product you should at least give it a while (1-2 weeks) to get used to the new sound profile before making your verdict.Chances are it does portrait sound a lot more accurate and clearer but your brain just got too used to the cheaper one. >being twice the weight/strain on my earsWireless Headsets are obviously heavier if you're used to cable.

>>739276315This is why I will never buy headphones that aren't Audio Technica. They stock replacement parts for ages.Sure, my newest headphone, the R70x has a literal design flaw with the swivel pivot that causes them to break in 2 years (they made them out of brass and over time the steel circlip chews them to pieces), but they still sell the part. I didn't use it because I fixed them with stainless steel instead so they won't fail again, but still, it was nice I could buy it if I wanted.

>>739286515>This is why I will never buy headphones that aren't Audio Technica. They stock replacement parts for ages.I wish their cheaper headphones have replaceable/detachable cables. I've used the AD500X and the cable will just tear itself apart and rot away within 3+ years of usage. And I can't be bothered to modify it to have a detachable cable, I'm not knowledgeable enough with regards to DIY stuff.>R70x has a literal design flaw with the swivel pivot thatThat's unfortunate. I was considering buying that one. Does the R50x have that issue as well?

>>739265870I cant use this shit without headache and overheating, i can only use in-ears. Currently Tanchjim TanyaThey are cheap and sound great
>>739265870Audio is a solved problem and has been for decades. There isn't any objective improvements from low end to high end headphones when it just comes to audio (aside from the cheapest literal shit), there's just different audio profiles which is subjective (and for the most part can be tuned to your likeness through eq) and you just didn't like the more expensive one's sound. Which is actually quite common, most manufacturers suggest a 2 week 'break in' period where you're suppose to only listen to your new headphones, it's not to break in the headphones but to get you use to the sound of them.
>>739286687>Does the R50x have that issue as well?I can't tell how the pivot works through pictures, but it doesn't look like the same design. It looks like the R70xa, which I think was redesigned to avoid this issue, AT know about it and gave up on the pivot entirely instead of making it out of the correct material.Personally, I would much rather go with the wing system and deal with the failing pivot, over switching to a headband. Some people don't like the wings though, so if you haven't owned a headphone with them before, maybe try one. The stock pads for the R70xa and probably R50x are hot dogshit for me, they're too small. I bought some 110mm XL brainwavz earpads that were a massive improvement.
>>739286687>I wish their cheaper headphones have replaceable/detachable cablesI used the AD700s for 12 years before the plastic hinge finally snapped, modding in a replacement cable wasn't much work. The R70x were a bit more work in that regard, because you need to make custom cables for them. The stock cable is bulky, can't make a sensible 90 degree turn at the connection point, and the port sticks out 5mm for no fucking reason. So I had to cut the port down flush with the body and make my own cables to have a good experience. And cables are a consumable, I'll have to do it again in a few years, because the replacement cables you can buy are junk for the superior vertical position for optimal routing. If you can live with the connectors jabbing into your shoulders every time you lean your head too far to one side, I guess you can use the replacements you can buy though.

>>739288626Solved by ChatGpt:What you’re describing is real, and in audio circles it’s usually called brain burn-in or listener acclimatization.People often confuse it with headphone burn-in (the idea that the drivers physically change after hours of use), but what you described is specifically your auditory perception adapting to a new frequency response. Here’s what happens:Your brain gets calibrated to the tonal balance of your old headphones. If your old pair had exaggerated bass, recessed mids, harsh treble, etc., that becomes your “normal.” When you switch to more accurate or simply different headphones, they can initially sound: thin muffled too bright lacking bass weirdly detailed After a few days or weeks, your auditory system re-normalizes, and suddenly the old headphones can sound terrible when you go back to them. This is related to broader psychoacoustic concepts like:auditory adaptation perceptual adaptation neural acclimatization reference shift There’s a famous version of this in studio audio: engineers who switch from consumer bass-heavy headphones to flatter studio monitors often think the studio gear sounds “boring” at first. The phenomenon is widely discussed in audiophile communities, especially around brands like Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, and Audio-Technica because their tuning styles differ a lot.So yes — there absolutely is a name for it, and your description is basically textbook listener acclimatization.
>>739265870hd600 or it's a scam
your ears isnt a perfectly calibrated coupler. frequency response graphs are a guide to the capabilities of a headphone/iem/speaker, not gospel. people who rely solely on fr graphs are retarded. the humidity in your space has more of an effect on the way you hear sound in the real world than how a headphone measures.no normal person listens to sine sweeps. fr evangelists are just copetards that rationalize their fanaticism with "but it measures great".

get the AKG K371 if you want bassget the equivalent open back Sennheiser if you dontkeep in mind that headphones cannot produce true bass notes due to how low frequencies aren't just heard with your ears but also felt with your body and headphones cannot do the latter. i much prefer headphones that just admit this and roll off any bass under 40Hz instead of listening to the unnatural headphone bass.

Both jumps were noticeable even without switching between the two to compare, but after 2 weeks it just became "this is how things sound". Worth it? Yeah. Worth it if I already had some planars instead of ancient dynamics? I doubt it.The bass hole in the pads is absolutely worth it though, even if it takes a while to get used to and your brain starts tuning out the bass of your own heartbeat (never an issue when listening to something, but if you have them on in silence? very noticeable at the start).
>>739293507>fake leatherI hate that shit. Never buy headphones with that crap on it anymore.
>>739293708No just different as they are aimed at a very different target market - people who only listen to rap and adjacent music and the young adult male crowd. If you however are not that person then they are awful, which is fine.
>audiophile threadTrue fact: if all audiophiles were shot in the head and dumped in a landfill, the world would only improve
>>739293772>LCD2 clone assuming it's a semi-competent clone. Monolith M1060 with all the "fixes" that were popular when it dropped to make it sound more like an LCD2. I got a pretty good deal on them years ago from someone who was clearing out their headphone collection so I paid like half of what a new pair was going for lmao. Semi related but I have no idea how people say they need loads of power out of headphone amps (yeah sure 600ohm headphones do exist but those are rare) as my little atom amp even on low gain reaches ear destruction levels of loud when the knob is cranked and on high gain they'll probably explode the headphone driver.

>>739294005If you dig out the old harman target whitepapers (they stopped making them public a few years ago but the older ones are) they have a breakdown of how different groups have a preference to different response curves. Young adult females do not like as much bass as young adult males and this trend continues until you hit the older crowd (50yo+) where they both hate bass. The harman target is not some absolute perfect target to hit (even the paper says this, but most people never bothered to read it) but it is an average curve that on average everyone will like. The idea being it is a sort of catch all baseline and headphones aimed at specific groups can be tuned appropriately.
Okay niggers, I'm not big on over ear headphones, and usually just use IEMs, but all this krautheisser glazing got me invested, and now I want a pair of HD600s. Are they really that universal?

>>739294882Oh god that is even worse. Essentially the cable running from the front panel to the motherboard header has shitty shielding and all the electrical noise from your system is interfering with the sound signal. If you plug it into the rear motherboard jack I would wager the "coil whine" sound diminishes or disappears. Decent onboard audio is shielded for this very reason.

>>739296281Thats one advantage gamer headphones have over regular ones. CBA buying a seperate one and having it take up space at my desk honestly.
For a headset with a mic, the audio quality of these are pretty great for sub >$1000, but they're genuinely some of the least comfortable to wear headphones I've ever owned, worst than my old ass $80 Hyperx Cloud 2's. Had to get a separate cushion insert to put on the bottom of the head strap because of how uncomfortable it was to wear for more than a few minutes.

I used ad700's a long time ago and miss them, I even worn them to college. Sadly I broke the jack by tripping on the cable getting up from my computer. >>739299584Burn in is real, but not in the way those audiofools think. Anything mechanical will have a settling period as the normal stress of operation sets in (its is why car manufacturers will often say not to redline their engine for the first N miles/kilometres of use) but for something like headphones that is likely either caught during factory testing or sorts itself out in an hour or so of normal usage as it warms up for the first time from the electrical current. The idea of spending tens of hours to solve burn in is nonsense.
>>739299959I remember reading about this years ago and eventually an audio engineer mentioned they couldn't seriously sell a product where the drivers output changes the first one or two weeks based on playback.
>>739299531Yes, most Clubs and Dj Equipment is Owned by Pioneer. It's the standard brand and pretty monopolized. Not like an alcoholic inserter like you would know, but a Dj's work is more than scratching the turntables at a party, specially if you are a producer. But thanks, I keked.
>>739300160Exactly. While I could go on a bit of a rant the short of it is a lot of these audiofool beliefs are basically rooted in some questionable shit built in the 70's or 80's that has very loose tolerances - particularly in regards to tube amps - that got perpetuated as ground truth. The rise of digitisation and general manufacturing improvements basically eliminated these idiosyncrasies. That combined with the rise of chi-fi precisely because good, clean audio reproduction (clean as it any distortion is beyond human hearing, even if it is machine measurable) caused the old audiophile companies to double down as they were - and are - having their lunch eaten by much cheaper alternatives. The days of an audiophile needing to spend thousands to get clean audio are long gone and that lead to many of the older crowd to lean into audiofoolery particularly as more research was done and a huge amount of what goes into making a good set of headphones, speakers, etc can be explained with science but that clashes with muh feels. Are a pair of thousand shekel dan clark headphones nice? Sure, but you're not paying that much for the actual sound reproduction, you're paying for the brand image, quality of construction and other tertiary features. Nice for sure but when fools convince themselves more expensive = better you get where we are today. If you want something fancy go for it, just do not lie to yourself about what you are getting.
>>739269594>>739266069Ive been using my arctic 7 for like 10 years now. The built in mixer makes me never want to switch but theyre starting to deteriorate. One of the best headsets ive ever used. No complaints other than >micro-usb

>>739301037If anyone tells me they have their music in anything other than flac I instantly cease engaging with them. MP3 shitters BEGONE
>>739301037>>739301145I started listening to jazz and classical after getting a proper audio setup simply because those genres are recorded and mastered properly unlike most music which is full of artifacts, white noise, volume wars tier tuning, etc. Good gear will make most music sound like SHIT by revealing all the flaws and amplifying the dogshit.
>schiit audioo i am laffin
>>739300710>quality of constructionThe DCA headphones I have use glued pads and one is slightly coming off even though I can push it back in. Build quality is otherwise nice but they don't use standard cables for replacement either so you have to pay premium if it breaks. I still like them but yeah they are overpriced
>>739301145i use mp3s all the time, because if im outside then i cant get the full quality anyway, so i may as well have ALL my music available, instead of needing to pick 100 to be unable to appreciate because its windy on the bike, or theres a mouth breathing co-worker nearby.theres a time and a place for everything, and appreciating music is an indoor controlled environment joy, like jacking off, or painting miniatures.>>739301315this is the usual issue.if you can hear more highs and lows, then people who hide low quality in the highs and lows get heard.cant play games with my good headphones, or all i hear is fucking ambient audio hums and whines that didn't get picked up by the devs.my favorite is in older games when you can hear people talking through the walls in the background of voice lines, usually lost in the bass.anyway, i use arctis 7s for gaming, because the mic's good enough, the audio isn't shit, and the range is long enough to get too and from the kitchen AND bathroom, so i can still listen to my mates while pinching a loaf or eating one.again, sound quality is useless if its not usable.and $40 TWS buds are way more usable than overears in the real world. (moondrop space travels my begrudging beloveds)
>>739301421>don't use standard cablesShit like that angers me so much. Human hearing is kinda shit in general and the actual transmission of sound (analogue or digital) is very simple so for all intents and purposes (in the context of cables) it is a solve problem so having special custom cables is bullshit of the highest order. At least the retarded (for consumer headphones) XLR connection is standardised.
>>739269021Doesn't matter if you're sitting right in front of the speakers.

>>739269594The current arctis 7 still has the slider on the ear cup. I have one. I give my buddy shit who blew money on the pro cause he doesn't even have the hub to adjust this anywhere near him physically so he basically has less functionality for more money. I will say however, the hot swap battery on that one is the only feature I actually want added to mine.
>>739290172>open backnot everyone is still living with their mother>what about living with a gf?s-shut up
>>739301595>my favorite is in older games when you can hear people talking through the walls in the background of voice lines, usually lost in the bass.Reminds me of the classic need for speed games - if you use the cockpit view and have decent audio you can hear that dull thunk/clunk of the gearbox when shifting gears but on crap headphones or speakers it will get drowned out by the sound of the engine as the games make that proportionally louder when using the cockpit view compared to external cameras.
>>739294078>It's not like any manufacturer ships their headphones with real leather pads.Audeze, ZMF, Verum, also Moondrop iirc, at least with some models.
>>739265870Because it was such a top seller and highly recommended, I bought a beyerdynamic D770 pro and the bass is fucking abysmal, it's almost not even there..I'm not particularly mad but I just wish I had bought sennheiser or any other brand I used to use before it
>>739301671I've seen cables where I wonder wtf must be in there to justify the price. The standard dummer cables DCA headphones come with based on choice may it be XLR or 3.5/6.3 or 4.4 costs as standalone 110€ here. The "premium" Vivo cables cost 200 more.
>>739294391It's a clear sound but you won't get bass out of it.
>>739265870So the thing with any audio device is that the manufacturing process weighs heavily into each individual unit. You can have cheap as shit headsets that sound pristine because they were literally made that way, they came out beyond perfect, all connections are pristine, flawless magnetics, etc, etc. The opposite is also true - expensive sets can get bad or flawed parts, a high quality part can be damaged during assembly or connected poorly, etc.So, TL:DR - all audio equipment is hit or miss. You simply have to keep trying until you get one that actually works as designed.
>>739265870Are there any GOOD wireless with dongle headphones?I have Dt770 pros but I hate the wires
Gaming audio equipment is just a bad joke. These are my recommendations for speakers and headphones if you want the good shit on a reasonable budget.
>>739302085>I've seen cables where I wonder wtf must be in there to justify the price. They say Monster on the packet. That is all there is to it. Unless you get the true bottom of the barrel chinesium shit cables do not affect audio quality as their resistance is negligible. There is a great video I saw on youtube some years back (which I can't find) where some audiofool has a super expensive USB cable that promotes itself as offering the cleanest audio and does a blind test with himself and his wife. Neither hear a difference between the megabux cable and any old usb cable they had so he logically deduced his testing is flawed because clearly the gold-plated-loli-scented cable IS better, so he must've fucked up.See also: people obsessed with balanced outputs on headphones that pull under 1W of power at full blast.
>>739301671>>739302085Never buy cables directly from the headphone manufacturer, they're all comically overpriced. The Hirose connectors DCA uses are nice because they lock so they won't loosen, same as mini XLR. You can get chink cables for DCA(or most other audio brands, really) headphones for less than fifty bucks. Worst case of shitty manufacturer cables is HD800. The stock cable is horrible and costs about 250 bucks as well. Meanwhile you can get higher quality chink cables with the exact same connectors for fifty bucks.
as long as your headphones are from a vaguely known brand, you can pretty easily make up for any shortfalls they have

Apparently the Elite version has both onboard chatmix and the hotswap battery but even I'm not insane enough to spend $800 on SS garbage.>>739301145I'm not cocky/deluded enough to convince myself I can tell the difference from a flac and a high-quality MP3. >>739302692>Audeze MaxwellLooks cool but its still 300 bucksStill, last time I checked for non bluetooth wireless decent headphones they were like 1000USD+ so SOON we might get something sub 200
>>739302692Those hart cable prices are absurd.>>739302743Balanced has its uses - namely for looooooooooooooooooong cable lengths and/or really high impudence headphones but for anything else it is a meme. Sounds good on paper but basically useless in practical terms for home usage.
>>739301671I think its funny that recording studios just make their own cables for pennies while some people buy gold plated shit to listen with.
>>739302197The most highly rated ones so far IIRC are HyperX Cloud 3S, Audeze Maxwell's and the Snapheiser HDB 630. I grabbed a pair of the Cloud 3S's for travel and theyre very solid sound wise, though I do miss my spaciousness from open backs.

>>739305750I half agree with you, but the HD600 have a huge rolloff below 100Hz. I merely ask for a more horizontal line. Modern open back dynamics are much more capable at those low frequencies, and planars have literally no issue at all.
>>739296597ive never used the mic version but m50x ive ran through 3pairs, i always replace the foams with nicer ones
beyerdynamics 770 are cheap, durable and neutral af so you can use them to record/produce without an issue too. getting some cheap 50-100 bucks interface + a real mic and real headphones is always worth it over getting a headset like some gimp imo. esp if you are at all inclined to make music/record smth in the future. 990s are also really good, but semi open so not for everyone.
Planars are also the most responsive to EQ and more volume (i.e more power in) won't change their frequency response like some dynamic drivers do.

>>739307570Yes but not quite to that extreme. What that (assuming it is the same research we are on about) showed was that actual trained listeners could tell the difference but the average audiophile could not. Trained in this case refers to people like audio engineers who are listening for errors rather than for enjoying the music as presented. That is why we get the term "listening to the gear" rather than what you are playing on them and that is the main pitfall audiophiles fall into which leads to audiofoolery. This is an important distinction but easily missed.

>>739265870oh god you're one of those losers stuck in the past, too prideful to change or admit things you don't like
Some fags talk about clamp force like their heads are grapes
>>739310030smooth brain, soft head
>use headphones for years>gamer dent>ears hurt from being pressed for hours>too warm on the headswitched to iem and never looked backeven my tinnitus went away since there's no more pressure on my affected ear
>>739310195>iemI still don't know what the difference between iems and earbuds are and I'm half convinced there isn't one and it's just audiophiles trying to make themselves sound smart
>>739265870I have some random sony Headphones from like 10 years ago that I use for gaming. They cost maybe $60 and they are AMAZING.Any horror game played with them just sounds incredible
>>739310273IEMs fuck your ears like you're a slut.
>>739310273earbuds - wireless earphonesearphones - small speakers inserted in ear, mostly used on phonesiem - earphones with wider audio range, also used on things other than phones
>>739310338Bait. You fuck your own ears if you listen to loud music like a retard, no matter what you use.
>>739310483That's not what I meant...
>>739310586for me, it's makita
>>739310797Anon /v/ is a DeWalt board. GTFO
>>739307570I'm fairly certain that'd be something like FLAC vs mp3 because the quality of a $50 vs $500 headphone is noticable by even the average person assuming the $500 one isn't a piece of shit.
>>739268835Speakers are no good if you want to use a mic.
>pc pluggewd into modern amp and dac with some planar magnetic headphones>psx and ps2 plugged into a 5.1 surround sound systemyup, gaming is good
I use the drop pc38it just werks, also tried out a cheap sennheiser closed back and it raped my ears no matter the setting.
>>739307298More than wax you're sloughing off skin cells, grease, sweat etc it all mixes together and gets sour I bet that water was gross and they came satisfyingly clean I love that shit
>>739285348I've had these for like 9 years and they're still going strong. The faux leather material starts to flake after a while, but I just bought a headband cover and replace the earpads every couple years. You can get different earpads but they change the sound compared to the OEM/replica ones.
>>739270960>btfo by chinkshit and bluetooththis is a very low quality shitpost
>>739309146The Ananda are in a really bad place with the Hifiman lineup honestly, especially when they've put out the XS and XV and the Sundara's are right under it price wise and many people argue sound better too. At least you can say you're at the peak of diminishing returns because anything at a higher price is going to be even more of a disappointment from here on.
>>739311101never had that issue, nowdays both software and hardware is so good that it know how to cancel out the sound coming out of the speakersused zoom, teams, google meet and amazon chime without any issues
>>739311010Kinda hard to compare two headphones side by side as most are tuned differently. I doubt most people will notice errors and disturbances unless they are very noticeable.
>>739311328China has been making high quality audio gear for many years now and they actually innovate unlike westoids. Better build quality often times also.
Headphones are for children. Men use bookshelf speakers.
>>739311459Just get fiio ft7 or ft5. Much better build quality and comfort and you can EQ them easily to whatever you want.
>>739266030This. Never buy gamershit.
It's FT1 Pro for me. A small 1.5dB bump in the bass region and this thing is AMAZING.
>>739310887Are these good? One for each ear.
>>739311861why not both depending on the situation?
>>739311861They are called MONITORS YOU UNCULTURED SWINE.
>>739312318Only the ones that double up as battery chargers.
You need an amp for those. They literally cannot drive themselves. Otherwise they sound muffled.
>>739312543you need a amp for a lot of these headphones. That the part they leave out to new guys with headsets
Fun fact that not all schizos might know, you can turn any headphones into a microphone by just changing the input, they are essentially the same structure. My question is, has someones used mics as headphones? The image coming to my head is pretty funny.
Shoutout to Anime Girls with Headphones. One of my favourite genres fr fr.
>>739311789chinkshit is still chinkshit, they literally produce more drek than anybody else on the planet. as for bt audio its still a fucking joke, and i have the snoy 4th gen wireless headset, wmx or whatever.
>>739312953hairy armpits
>>739312769No but my landline phone turned into a speaker one time when I was a kid. Got scared and thought aliens were coming but apparently there ware just radiowaves acting up or some shit.
>>739265870Bluetooth headphones will always sound like shit no matter how much money you spend on them because they are restricted by the limitations of bluetooth. It gets even worse when you start getting into gamer headsets with the shitty dollarstore microphones tacked on.A pair of $50 wired headphones and a $25 mic will outperform a $1000 gaymer headset literally every time
I cannot believe Tomoko is using normie headphones...REEEEEEEEE
>>739271676whenever I see this, get jealous of peple with money, my dirty diy headphones with electrostatic drives always had problems>see all current sound consumer products>all shit>all expensive>mfw
>>739313058Trvke.
>>739313001My man.
>>739312543lollmao evennot falling for your bait
>>739313097>electrostatic drivesAren't those fucking expensive and require a special amp?
>>739313479yeshence the stax meme
>>739288085you could be like me and randomly get sudden sensisoneural hearing loss, and end up with hearing loss + tinnitus in one ear and perfect hearing in the other.
>>739306105brother, don't belittle me, I know the difference between shit bass, too much bass and no bass, I'm over 30 and used better tier headphones for most of my life
>>739313479That's why I said diy (do it yourself), buying cheap worldwar2 surplus it was a real surprise. >special ampOnly used old home theater systems and it worked nice, the psycho trances were the best, opera like music was the best to listen
