Are OLED monitors really that good?
>>
>>739269361
yes
>>
>>739269361
No
>>
no
>>
>>739269361
Yes but not a must buy. If you are upgrading your monitor, yeah get an OLED. If your monitor is still good, just wait.

And if you're just using your monitor for porn, an OLED ain't gonna make a difference.
>>
>>739269361
Is your eyesight good enough to tell the difference?
>>
>>739269361

>screen
I don't see any difference.
>>
>>739269361
My LCD monitor is able to display the difference
>>
nes.
>>
>>739269361
My honest opinion after 6 months compared to my previous IPS monitors:
Motion clarity and input latency: Big upgrade, easily justifies the purchase if you're into anything competitive.
Contrast and HDR: Games that properly use these look great but few games take advantage of it and if you crank the contrast too high the games look can easily look oversaturated. Minor upgrade imo.
Burn in: Irrelevant, just don't be a retard and leave the screen static for hours. Screensavers exist.
VRR flicker, subpixel text clarity, miscellaneous panel-related quirks: Can range from non-issue to very annoying, research the different panel types before buying.
>>
Buy miniled
>>
>>739269361
thats the same screen but the right one just has higher saturation
>>
>>739269361
Motion clarity is better and you don't have to pretend light grey is black.
>>
>>739269361
yes, they're brilliant
you just need to change a few things to accommodate for them and it's the best visual experience money can buy
you need to switch to dark modes, auto hide the task bar, set a fast screen timeout and get curtains to modulate the amount of light in the room instead of maxing brightness
>>
>>739269670
>>739269717
you don't know what an oled is supposed to look like
on an oled a 000000 black will look indistinguishable to the monitor being off
open paint, fill the canvas with pure black, turn the monitor off and look at the difference
>>
>>739269361
yes and I refuse to play on anything else. all other screens look pale/washed out in comparison
>>
>>739269361
theyre good but not THAT good. its for rich ppl or enthusiasts that dont care about diminishing returns/ having multiple monitors for different ocasions
>>
>>739270693
>its for rich ppl
an entry level oled is $470

>>739270770
Exactly, rich people.
>>
>poorfag cope general
>>
>>739270795
the reference image is that black you fucking idiot
when you have the screen off then that's what oled looks like
when you turn it on that's what your lcd turns that black canvas into, milky grey
>>
>>739270950
Give him some slack, he can't comprehend the idea of a monitor being lit without a backlight.
>>
>>739269361
Yeah its called Plasma and it was invented decades prior to OLED which is the same exact shit.
>>
I genuinely can't tell the difference between my $1K OLED and my old $250 IPS in SDR unless it's something quite dark or that has a lot of contrast (in which case it's an enormous improvement). In a game or image that's bright and colorful it looks nearly the same. Still superior due to the better contrast but it's not a crazy diference like people claim.
>>
>>739271063
Plasma was a bunch of mini CRT tubes.
It had the worst of every world.
>>
>>739269361
Depends on the sort of games you play. Games with a lot of color variation will benefit from OLED, games that maintain a largely static color palette dont. OLED is gonna be very noticeable in a game like valorant vs a game like counterstrike
>>
>>739270770
i said rich people or enthusiasts. and buying the cheapest OLED is not something i'd recommend
>>
>>739271092
>In a game or image that's bright and colorful it looks nearly the same.
You may need to get your eyes checked reds purples and blues pop out significantly more on an OLED its a very noticeable difference even on a matte OLED
>>
>>739269361
If you use it in pitch-black darkness it's great.
When I used it with 4:3 content it gave me a chubby
>>
>>739271474
Don't tell me you leave the color gamut unlimited in SDR. That shit makes skin tones look tomato-red.

I recently bought a gigabyte mo27q2 and it's srgb mode is pissing me off because of it's gamma curve. No software solution works well with two monitors and/or with hdr switching. Do you guys have any solution to this?
>>
>>739272698
>fucking heavy
>>
>>739269361
I genuinely can't tell if the anti-OLED posting is shitposting or genuine retardation. There isn't any debate here, its like debating horses vs cars. OLED is better in every single way to LEDs.
>>
>>739272806
My Samsung plasma is not heavy at all. Infact its a flat panel like all modern TVs. Did you buy the fucking Mitsubishi one on rollers? Lmao
>>
theyre good for games and movies and literally nothing else. reading text on it gives me eye cancer
>>
>>739272754
Riddle me this anon: is the gamma curve accurate in any other mode of the monitor?
>>
>>739273365
Yeah, in all, except also the P3 mode. I'm trying to calibrate the oversaturated colors by eye now. I've given up hope
>>
>>739272698
>OLED
>All the same shit 20 years later
I fucking wish motion clarity was on par
>>
>>739269361
If you want deep blacks, get a MiniLED for half the price of an OLED. If you want the motion clarity tho, not that much you can do.
>>
>>739273793
Windows colour management is an srgb clamp but it doesn't touch gamma so if the gamma is accurate in the wide gamut modes turning ACM on will clamp the image back down to the srgb colour space and you get to keep that tasty 2.2. This won't mess with HDR either.
>>
>>739273935
I've tried that. Some games don't like it and ignore it completetly, like Total War Warhammer 3 or DOOM 2016 for example. Most vulkan/opengl games also seem to ignore it. I really don't understand how a company can make an OLED monitor and not have a single proper color profile on it
>>
>>739273810
Well I forgot the term and just said smooth Hz but yeah the motion clarity was phenomenal. I guess I am just a boomer and kids these days grew up with LCD only and dont know of the past and just assume OLED is the greatest tech ever that didnt start existing until recently. Hell I doubt half of /v/ remembers 3D TVs.
>>
Apparently OLEDs are still split further by matt and glossy, and then QD OLEDs and Tandem OLEDs, fml why can't anything be simple
>>
>>739269823
>Burn in: Irrelevant
>>
>>739274125
It's weird that oled is considered new when the fucking Vita had it 13 years ago.
>>
>>739269361
no
i just got an oled and had to send it back
image is a woled gen 4 for you
qd oled has even more problems with its triangle pixels

4/10 not the worst monitor tech i used, but just really bad
bad colors and bad contrast and cant do blacks, but really fast
>>
>>739269361
Yes, if you view media in a dark room, once you use one you can't go back. Burn in is a meme too. I have had my CX as a monitor since 2020 with no issues and it gets heavy videogame HUD usage. I was so pleased I upgraded my main TV to a C4 and TV/ movies look great.

When I go to my friend's who still have LCD screens I laugh at them and call them faggots.
>>
>>739269361
"Once you experience true black you can never go back"
I always thought this was bullshit that OLED fanboys muttered to themselves and that I never really noticed it, but when I went to a store to buy a new smartphone and the sales person showed me the difference between a smartphone with an OLED screen and one with a regular LED, I was sold then and there, bought the smartphone and not long after that I got myself an OLED tv
>>
>>739274309
That ties into the 3D TV era. I genuinely think besides bots that most of 4chan is 10yo that surprise surprise weren't alive during the Vita era.
Also
>>739274273
Lmao you fell for the
>OLED burn in isn't real meme
Sorry buddy.
>>
>>739270693
Bro, a C4 was like 1k when I got it. It is a phenomenal TV that is very attainable if you want one.
>>
>>739274067
Games shouldn't ignore the setting as it is a system level thing being fed to the gpu. The opengl games i've played and those i've used with vulkan have respected it (even ollllllld opengl 1.1 games and api wrappers that go to opengl have worked).
>>
>OLED monitor
This is dumb
>OLED TV
This is smart
>>
>>739274125
hah I forgot about the 3D trend after everyoen adopted 720 and 1080p. They desperately needed to jew us on a new tech. It was so shitty.

LEDbros don't worry, Sony's new RGB LED displays will turn the situation in our favor
>>
>>739274450
Try the games I mentioned. Sometimes it can fix itself after minimizing but not always. I don't think there is a real solution to this problem except getting a hardware calibrator unfortunately
>>
>>739274518
3D movies are pretty cool if you watch them on a VR headset. Selling you a TV that needed glasses to be watched correctly was stupid tho.
>>
>>739274594
Yeah exactly. The glasses were the problem. Like you aren't going to invite a bunch of people over and hand out like 6 pairs of them shits.
>>
>>739274586
>hardware calibrator
All that does is generate a .icc profile for windows to to use.....which is worthless as games will ignore that. Monitors that have hardware level calibration profiles (i.e the profile can be essentially baked into the monitor and what it reports to the host OS) cost a fortune and are for srs bsns work.

Speaking of MiniLED, I'm buying this one soon, I'm just waiting to see if there's a better sale during Hot Sale.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FKNFHZH9?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&language=en_US&currency=USD

/pcbg/ also recommends the KTC M27T6, but they're both around the same price and I currently own an Acer IPS which looks pretty good, so I'd rather stick with Acer.
>>
>>739273918
>>739275042
MiniLED still suffers from bloom around bright objects against dark backgrounds, it can be completely damning to the image quality depending on the scene

>>
>>739275270
what does your image with terrible colors have to do with returning my monitor, retard?
>>
>>739275332
Your monitor is genuinely messed up. Have you tried resetting the icc profiles for a start? Alternatively I'd suggest you check your browser's flags to see if it's rendering images using the right color space. Maybe use a better browser i.e. google chrome, vivaldi, opera, etc. They're the best ones by far.

>>739275326

That sounds based and I'm happy you see it portrayed like that. Fun fact but this visual overhaul was inspired by GTA: Russia.

Might as well ask here instead of starting my own thread.
I've been looking to upgrade my monitor. I can't afford anything as high end as OLED but I've been gaming on an old 1080 120Hz monitor for almost a decade.
But my GPU is also getting older, its a 3060ti. Very solid card still but I'm wondering if its even worth trying to go up to 4k? Or if 1440p would be enough of an upgrade to justify itself?
>>
>>739278779
I moved from a 1080 to a 1440 myself just a few months ago, that bump alone left me wow'd and thinking 'who needs 4k, this is already great'

I'm not a fan of disposable technology.
I'm a fan of the idea of buying an LED screen and using it for 20 years with barely any decay in peak luminosity, accurate colors (but who doesn't work with a calibrating device nowadays).
I will splurge on a 24 inch G-Sync Pulsar monitor for sure.

Yes, honestly, I will not elaborate much more because I can't verbally describe it fully Play modded STALKER or some other survival horror or basically any game with a lot of light/dark contrast and a decent lighting system and you'll see what I mean. Not having a subtle blue/white backlit glow is way more transformative than I would have ever expected it to be.

>>
>>739287376
this anon is right, also most OLEDs will come with built-in functions you can use for pixel refresh as well as configurable reminders to run that if you're really that concerned. Most users shouldn't experience burn-in unless they're actually having goon sessions. If you're one of the demographics that would be using this board, this is either not a problem for you because you're fucking 35, or because you're poor.
>>
>>739275161
what the actual fuck is this
>>
>>739279201
I've sort of experienced buyer's remorse about the monitor when I upgraded my 17 year old setup a few months ago.
On one hand, going from barely managing 30 fps 60 hz on CS2 to 250+ FPS 180HZ made me like that Danny Devito meme.
On the other hand, I didn't really feel that imnpressed over the jump in quality from 1080p to 1440p. For less than half the price of the 1440p monitor, I could've bought a really good 1080p monitor instead. Maybe its different when the jump in quality is to 4k or OLED.
>>
Mini RGB is the new gold standard.
>>
>>739271289
Maybe all the techtubers are paid shills, but I recall seeing from 2025 a lot of videos saying that now OLEDs are affordable and its issues are mostly mitigated or negligible.

The screenshot is of GAMMA, I've been playing that recently. It's kind of corrupted a little bit by tacticool gunlarper faggotry but in my opinion still stays mostly true to the atmosphere./experience. Most of what's fucked up about the modpack stems from changes to the lore/etc based on the Anomaly mod that the GAMMA modpack is itself layered on top of, at the very least. It's pretty good if you want a sandbox scavenging experience but don't care as much about experiencing a story,

higher light.dark contrast and the sub-pixel layout is different on OLED displays and Windows doesn't natively support that in the cleanest way, so in short, text often looks a little frayed around the edges. Double-whammy for readability, I'm just using my old 1080p IPS display as a 2nd monitor and setting everything I can to display in dark mode on it, and now my mole eyes read from that screen instead.

They're all paid shills. Not only are the issues unfixed (wear levelling is not a fix, it just ensures your whole screen kills itself at the fastest possible rate), new OLEDs come with fun new "features" you'll never see anyone in the press talking about.
>>
How the fuck did they fix VRR flicker? I had a first gen 1440p 240hz OLED and that thing was pretty annoying, now I have the latest 32' 4k Asus oled and I have never seen any flicker on it
>>

>>
>>739269361
Yes, you should get one of the brightest monitors because dim HDR presentation is trash.
>>
>>739278779
You can't run games 4K on a 3060 Ti because you run out of VRAM constantly, you can barely run games at 1440p with sometimes low texture setting being used which is an awful experience.
When you run out of VRAM you kneecap your video card to run at ~50-70% of it's full potential.

Because we have at least 4 different OLED sub-pixel arrangements and most people still use LCD monitors with RGB sub-pixel layouts.
