Were gamers too harsh on this game?

No Nintendo bonus.

Finding the "good" in a shit game is a sign of autism
>>
>>739270142
It should have been its own thing or part of an IP where everything about it, fits more like Blast Corps.
>>
>>739270142
It's fine in its own right, yes.
I just wish it wasn't stuck on the X360's shitty hardware
>>
Honestly, I probably enjoyed N&B more than the first two. My autistic brain just enjoyed making vehicles and flying around.
>>
>>739270142
>Engaging exploration
I don't know about this one. There wasn't much exploration outside of the hub world. It is a pretty fun game though. I admit I was really harsh on it for a long time, but revisiting it, I had a lot of fun.

Good news everyone https://github.com/masterspike52/reNut
>>
>>739270997
I would rather have a smaller but higher detailed level, with lots of secrets and easter eggs to find than a massive open world where the 'exploration' is just walking through empty wilderness for 10 minutes.

Most of the levels were just open areas with nothing in them.

I found each level was interesting enough, with enough puzzles and collectables to be engaged without it being a collectathon.

You guys don't understand how badly I wish this game hid 10-15 Mumbo Crates within each of the actual levels. Holy shit it would be SO fun exploring the levels in that case

I certainly remember them using fucking comic sans

No, the public reacted accordingly.
>>
They took Banjo-Kazooie and made it Not Banjo-Kazooie instead of just creating a new IP. Even their visual redesign looks like a Temu knockoff.

I bought a 360 for this game (i got Crackdown later on) and all it did was reaffirm that buying a console for a single game is a stupid idea.

Also one of the loading screens literally tells you that if you dont like N&B, you should go play Kazooie HD on XBLA. I dont think any fucking company has done that before or after.
>>
This game was great. a lot better than TOTK

that's dev speak for "our owner forced us to make this"

What's wrong with that?

Wrong, the director's openly stated he never wanted to make an actual Banjo 3
>>
>>739270142
>Engaging exploration
You massive disingenuous faggot. Outside of Showdown Town, every world only has a few scattered notes per door. The vast majority of enemies and obstacles do not spawn until you talk to one of the 1-3 NPCs set in designated areas to load a challenge. You can't even find vehicle parts hidden in the worlds.
>Diverse puzzles
>drive through rings, pull X, knock over X, escort X
>Gruntilda is a glorified knock over X mission where only getting her seat out matters
>Amazing level design
>Nutt Acres is a wide expanse of empty, bumpy hills
>LOGBOX is a cramped vertical clusterfuck
>Jiggosseum is a literally empty colosseum with jack shit to do in the stands
>Terrarium of Terror is designed specifically for flying vehicles only and every room looks the same

that's the difficulty curve mixing with the level design fag, i can tell you didnt shrink your fucking vehicle or build much
>>
>>739270142
Yes and No. It has cool shit that gets overlooked, but fact remains that it is far too easy to cheese even if you are charitable and comparing to like Mulle Meck. The Bantz/writing is good but some of the intended self-burns were taken as insults (though that is me being charitable that they were supposed to be selfburns), the Visuals are eh, i'd honestly say MOST characters manage to transfer well enough, the main issue being BK themselves and i don't remember the actual environments feeling like they looked bad.

But it was also clearly ahead of its time in some aspects going by how people coomed themselves over building in TotK.
>>
>>739272625
Lol Rare laughs at all banjo fans right in the face and everyone still blames microsoft. Microsoft is the one that wanted a normal banjo game
>>
>>739270142
They accurately called it bad. The game is mostly doing objectives to get Jiggies. Every fucking Jiggy comes from a time trial race. Races in that game aren't great the first time, they sure aren't fun on the 50th.

Even in Jontron's rage at the game the major issue he had was that it was too much of a departure from the core gameplay of the games and Microsoft cockteasing people with a more traditional game while making demands for changes to the game.
Which is entirely valid, but means that the frustration with the game is really superficial.
Building dipshit bathtub cars is fun, and while the game could use more stuff to fuck around with and would get creamed by jbmod (and later gmod) in the coming years for building dumb shit vehicles it's still a fairly solid game.
>>
>>739273548
>difficulty curve
There is fuck all in terms of difficulty until you open doors 5-6 in some areas. The Terrarium is a bizarre case where they have LESS obstacles to get in your way.
The only time you actually might have to think is for specific Trophy Thomas records and even then you'll most likely beat it the second time through.
>>
>>739274036
>Microsoft cockteasing people with a more traditional game while making demands for changes to the game.
It's 2026 and people are still blaming Microsoft for a decision Gregg Mayles made early in development.
>>
>>739273980
i didnt like the game very much but there were puzzles and minigames retard that didn't involve racing, did you even play the game
>>
>>739274116
Why yes people do still blame microsoft for intentionally saying that the teasers before they showed any gameplay should look like a "traditional banjo kazooie game" completely shooting themselves in the foot as they have done dozens of times over.
Or do I need to remind you of how they intentionally murdered blinx 2 by bumping it's release date to two weeks after halo 2 came out and only having trailers for it at a game conference barely anyone watched?
>>
>>739274260
>for intentionally saying that the teasers before they showed any gameplay should look like a "traditional banjo kazooie game"
They had already decided to make it a vehicle game at that point. They didn't scrap development and start over to make it a car game. The teaser said they were back for a new game and that's it.

Yeah Gregg Mayles has no idea why banjo or k rool are popular even with their celebrated reveals in smash. He says dumb shit like "well we gotta change the formula AGAIN cause now current kids dont know banjo".

Meanwhile Bubsy is getting a new 3D game and Banjo isnt.

>reveal trailer has Banjo and Kazooie staring in awe at the new collectibles (including a fucked up jiggy)
>they slam into a wall and everything turns out to be fake
They spelled it out right there and nobody noticed
>>
>>739274134
I played it about 20 years ago when it came out, yes.
Missions were literal races, a race but you have to destroy the other car, or "get to this place in this much time" in a car, which is a time trial race. Occasionally you might be blessed with an alternate objective before going back to more races.
>>
>>739270142
all this game showed is that banjofags are uncreative as fuck, and the fact there hasnt been many good banjo-likes shows even more how uncreative they are, with yooka-laylee showing the world how fucking uncreative banjofucks are with a frequently monotonous game that lacks innovation and poor game design

And now Rare has accusations that the SoT managers protect pedos and the games quality of life especially mechanically has been so bad people just wanna leave now. Meanwhile Banjo's legacy is fondly remembered especially for people who like N&B now.

the seething over Nuts and Bolts is the greatest ragebait of gaming history
>>
>>739270142
>Were gamers too harsh on this game?
No. I'll repost what I said about this game earlier today:
It spends the first 10 minutes introducing a new OC that's the writers self insert, who proceeds to go "hey collectathons suck ass, nobody wants those anymore!". Before forcing you into a strawman 'collectathon' mission, just so the OC can say "see, I told you those suck, let's do this instead!" and starting the game proper.
It's incredibly spiteful, Rare would have to issue a public apology to fans if they tried that shit today.
>>
>>739276520
Banjo Tooie was already halfway there anyways. The characters acted like cynical big shots above everything. Banjo Tooie also had all that fourth wall breaking the first one didn't. Conker is another sincere character Rare turned into a cynical washed up fourth wall breaking wisecracker.
>>
>>739278371
Yeah but those feel more like the devs just kidding around. It's different when you make those jokes, then actually trash the thing you are clowning on.
I feel like if nuts and bolts was just introduced as a spin off/side game and didn't spend it's intro shitting on fans it would have done fine.
>>
>>739274557
It also showed that Banjo Kazooie was a fluke cause not even rare themselves could do it. Hell look at the series history proves it
