Instead of remaking old forgotten games that are good and potentially ruining them, why don't devs remake old forgotten games that were bad or mediocre?
Because you're just not going to convince the investors that this is a good use of their money.
>>739274101this is why they keep remaking haloand star fox
>>739274101Oni was fucking awesome on the PC where it was meant to be played. The ps2 port controls like ass but is still a good game
>>739274101I jerked off to Red Ninja back in the day, the first level has you crawling under some floorboards and the camera stares right up her tiny skirt to reveal her black thong.Videogames used to be good, man. Well, this videogame specifically was not good but you get the idea.
>>739274101>and potentially ruining themRetard. A remake can be good, or it can be bad, but it cannot retroactively make the original worse. Also>Why don't we make this garbage less shitis a pretty miserable sales pitch.
>>739274101Why not just make a spiritual successor that isn't weighed down by the original that can do everything right the second go around?
>>739274101Oni was good, fuck you....Gameplay-wise, at least. The levels do look kind of bland. For a sci-fi setting, there's a lot of just wide open spaces that don't look very futuristic. Could use more neon billboards and Blade Runner flare.
>>739274474I liked Oni, it was hard to master but satisfying when you did, but still kinda janky
>>739274101while that is a cool idea, there's no money in it
>>739274101>badKind of harsh.I enjoyed Red Ninja even if it was inferior to Shinobido.
>>739274341splitting hairs
>>739274528>jankyIf you mean the level design then yes absolutely. But the combat feels nearly perfect to me, you can chain moves very fluidly. I don't like the fact your special moves are hard-locked by where in the story you unlock them (though the fan patch fixes this)
Red Ninja would have actually been really good if the controls for several things had been improve
>>739274101The person who drew that Oni cover art (Lorraine McLees) was laid off by Bungie in 2023.
Red Ninja is only ruined by its control scheme really. Even something as simple as re-binding all the commands and making the camera move properly would greatly improve the game.
>>739274803They would then go on to make an ugly piece of shit called Marathon with stolen assets. Interesting sequence of events.
>>739274474Oni is the only game with the feeling of where I was playing it still lingers, in my throat apparently I can taste the postnasal drip when I see this shit I equate the two probably why I dislike it so.
>>739274101>why don't devs remake old forgotten games that were bad or mediocre? It happens sometimes. Picrel and Super Castlevania 4 are good examples that come to mind.
>>739275017You probably do associate it with some past trauma or sickness. Because swinging around a goon's neck feels and looks amazing. If you want to complain about the game, I'll give you the ammunition to though. Rooms feel boxy, visuals are dull for a game basing itself on fucking 90's anime (some character costumes are cool though) and progression is mostly gated behind "Find the computer that unlocks the next door, then go find the door" which gets really old.I still maintain the rest of the game makes up for these gripes though.
>>739275017oh man I fuckin' hate that post nasal drip shit
>>739274321>>739274474Oni was not good. It had a lot of good ideas but the execution just wasn't there.
>>739274101Devs spend their time on ideas that make money, not ideas that are halfway decent.
What is Bungies best game? I played through Halo 1 (hated it), all three Marathon games (loved them), and part of Pathways into Darkness (I like it but something is making it hard for me to pick it back up). Does the fan patch for Oni change too much about the game and/or can I just use it for things like 1080p and stuff like that?
>>739276839Myth.
>>739274101fuck that oni missions where you have to navigate through the rooftops>gorillion enemies pop out of nowhere in small corridors all who have a fuckload of hp>there are also snipers hidden you have no way to see up until you are close to them who then proceed to take 80% of your health with a single shot. >If you get hit you have to restart because theres little healing so you would get softlocked
didn't takaki work on red ninja?california wouldn't like that
>>739274101A primary motivation for remaking games is safe money.
Finish Crash Twinsanity
>>739278170Who was asking for a remake of Thief though?
>>739274101Oni wasn't bad or mediocre, just ignored. Also the combat system was too deep for basically everyone and I cringe every time I see a youtube video of someone playing it and sucking immensely.
Isnt Red Ninja stuck in IP hell? Alot of IPs from that era are deadlocked because the dev teams got absorbed by the publisher and they went under.I would love to watch Kurenai perky butt in HD
>>739275213Super Castlevania IV is not a remake.
>>739274204Just tell them you're black.
>>739274101It's much easier to remake a good game than a bad one.
>>739276460You are joyless retard, anon-kun
>>739274101Because only goyslop deserve remake
>>739274101You didnt play Oni if you played the PS2 version. Oni on PC is iconic
>>739274340alrightdownloading now
>>739280050People were asking for a new Thief game but not a remake
>>739286451The game is a competent stealth genre game that was ruined by not enough playtesting/improvement on controls and having the character kind of snap onto things while trying to do the wall running, platforming etc. so it's extremely janky when you have to do those things. For the stuff that worked, it did it a lot better than Tenchu.
>>7392741011. Because it didnt make money then, why would it make money now2. Because it didnt make money and most of the property holders have left or the property rights are fragmented. The only way to remake old obscure games like that is if a new studio offered to buy up the rights and at that point, why not just do your own thing?
>>739274101I still remember Oni being shilled in the news. I say shilled because my mom bought it for me without asking for it. It was a good game though.
>>739274101Only safe remakes are allowed, sorry.
>>739286546>having the character kind of snap onto things while trying to do the wall running, platforming etcI've played every assassin's creed game, so I've had so much practice mastering that jank. I'm ready. Hell so long as I can jork it that's all I care about
>>739274101because moneypeople aren't gonna spend money on games they don't know about or know were bad back in the day they will spend money on good games they wanna play again but with a new coat of paint
>>739274101>pic unrelated No. I will NOT buy any potential remake. Even less something from modern Bungie or Rockstar.
>>739274101If I had enough money I would be doing this.
>>739278178Based. That'd be the only 'new' Crash game.
it does happen sometimes with big franchises. remaking a bad or unpopular game in a long-running series just makes sense. fire emblem on the ds also comes to mind
>>739275213It also happened with Shadow of the Ninja. And actually other games that team has made. Actually remade it so fucking good there's no reason to ever go back to the nes game
>>739274101Red Ninja had greas ideas and atmosphere but the control was clunky as fuck.I couldn't even properly walk in a straight line
>>739274321I always make sure to remind people of this anytime someone shits on Oni. Most of the time they played the ps2 version
>>739276460It was rushed and got lots of features cut but the combat was sharp and polished, well worth playing even today
>>739274645Fucking nobody remember Shinobido and I hate it.
>>739274101>Takaki has been making big tiddie ninja games since the beginning of his career>D.K., the artist for Red Ninja went on to design characters for Nier (not Automata)
>>739287512I member :D
>>739287512I fucking loved Shinobido and it always irked me when my friends called it a Tenchu ripoff at that time. I should probably try to get the Vita game some day. Got Kamiwaza for the Switch, it wasn't as good as Shinobido.
>>739274101Pic related is the perfect candidate for this remake treatment.>Fix the overly-tanky controls of the shark with better lock-on and turning>Unfuck the camera so it doesn't make it a chore>Add day and night cycles with different events and people being present for each>Keep the cartoonish levels of carnage, but add a Forge-esque cinematic camera that lets you make your own Jaws scenes of sinking ships and disemboweling beach bimbos>Give a proper training manual / tutorial so players don't have to go online to remember how to do certain actions that only appear in a loading screen one time>Improve the story a little with some actual tension for no other reason than to heighten the fear factor your shark is creating for the humans
>>739287968Maneater comes close.
>>739274101I want Wet 2
>>739274101Remakes are not made for you, or any consumer/buyer/gamer. They're made for money. So it only makes sense to remake proved massive successes.
>>739288021It comes close as a spiritual successor and definitely looks and plays smoother, but there's details it lacks that make it inferior to Jaws Unleashed. Things like the use of music cues when you're attacking, how you damage ships and other structures, the multiple different ways you can tear humans and sea life apart that feels more visceral than the few quick bites Maneater has before the bodies disappear.
Why are ninja games out of fashion?
>>739288316yeah that ninja gaiden reboot from the blasphemous devs was forgotten about pretty quickly...If ninja five-o got a good remake I would buy immediately
why don't you just ask for new games to be made instead??
Bump Post more Kurenai
I like sneaky ninjette so much folxAlso Shinobido looks really cool.
