I went to sleep sorry. Continuing from yesterday.
>>739759556
>all except snake brandishing
>what does it mean?
It doesn't apply to MGS1 as much compared to the later titles but MGS always promotes the non-lethal route. This definitely isn't the actual reason but I wanted a reason to reply.
>>739760576
>I love when NPCs are having funny unimportant conversations
Like in most games, the enemies are just as important to the experience as the player imo. The more the enemies feel like real people, the more engaging a stealth game is for me.
>Containers for hiding bodies are kind of lame
Agreed, I prefer hiding bodies naturally like in secluded spaces or behind cover. I don't mind if enemies can still end up finding the bodies at least.

Is Styx good?
>>
Anyone play thick as thieves yet?
>>
>>739785185
I tried one of it, the cockroach close up in the OP really turned me off. Tried the tutorial and stuff, I wouldn't say it's bad but the detective vision was a letdown, it's not something I usually like in stealth games. But most people seem to like it, mostly the first one and the powers related to summoning other goblin clones and shit.

The genre peaked at Chaos Theory. MGS and Hitman, while being arguably great games, are mid when it comes to stealth. Dishonoured is just gutted Thief + Assassin's Creed (Arkane hasn't made a truly great game since Arx Fatalis).

What features would (You) like to see in your ideal stealth game?
>>
>>739785185
I played teh first 2 they are ok only problem si that levels are too open so you dont even know if you are going backwards or forward
>>
>>739784040
Styx still has games being made. I love the older Styx titles but my potato computer cannot really run the latest Styx title.
I have been playing Deep Dick Rogue Core. It reminds me of Left 4 Dead which actually had something of stealth mechanics when it came to some of the hordes waking. Rogue Core has much more compelling NPC programs (back when Oblivion launched we called NPC programming "A.I.") than its predecessor Deep Rack where enemies will attempt to at least appear to be sneaking up on you.
I love MGS3 and it makes me want to buy the Remaster even though I'm sure it trashes the original's art direction. The original MGS3 was from the Brown & Bloom era clearly so maybe the Remaster has dramatic improvements.
MGSV was a masterpiece when it came to stealth and being an engine in general. I feel like if MGSV was made today and released there would be more obligation for a major expansion.

I'm playing 007 First Light, it's pretty and kinda good. Hitman-lite but with a story and for the first time ever decent melee combat. Hopefully a sequel opens up the game a bit more for more creative stealth segments like Hitman but keeping the highly interactive melee (interactive with the world that is).
Definitely worth the 45 dollars I paid for the PC deluxe edition on Steam.
>>
so how does one go about purchasing the new Hitman trilogy
these faggots should be in jail for how complicated they made all this
>>
>>739784040
MGS, Dishonored, and Tenchu are garbage.
>>
>>739789930
The genre is so forgotten. My only wish is that one is actually good.
>>
>>739789930
I want a new Thief game that respects the originals' level design without making the character an overpowered magic assassin like Dishonored
>>
>>739789930
Fear mechanics, better implemented than Arkham. Like, the more suddenly something happens, the more a guard is surprised by it and doesn't react in time. If guards slowly see or hear their buddies die or yell but they never actually see you do anything, a hidden fear count goes up for them, making them more cautious but also slower, more likely to get startled, etc. And of course, later on in the game you start finding more and more elite guards, who have a higher tolerance for all this and different reactions.
>>739790336
I'm not a Thief schizo, I mentioned before but I barely played any of them I just recognise that they're good stealth games. The actual game I'm a schizo for is Shinobido.
>>739790786
Just pirate it man.
>>739790921
How so? They all play quite differently, what would you say is the unifying point that makes them garbage?
>>739791351
Same. I recently started a new Dishonored 2 playthrough and I refused the powers and ngl the game feels so much more fun now. I think I like being a more conventional assassin than a supernatural one, especially considering all the tools you get in this game.

>Shinobido
I tried playing that yesterday but the controls were painful. R1 to sneak but if you get anywhere near a wall you stick to it and you can't detach without letting go of R1 which makes you stand up and be visible? Also it constantly tries to auto rotate the camera as you move around, feels like I'm constantly fighting it. Whenever you do a stealth kill it leaves the camera pointing in a random direction. The camera rotation is painfully slow too. Other than that it seems good, like a more developed tenchu.

Arkane is blatantly overhyped, but Dishonored 1 was acceptable. Deeply flawed game, but the artistic vision is here.
>>
I apparently own Hitman 3, pretty sure I never actually bought it. I guess I got upgraded or something? It seems to be the complete game minus the DLC. Should I just use the Peacock local server instead of IOI's always online?
>>
>>739791953
Yeah it is janky as FUCK. The concept is amazing and the ideas behind the mechanics and premise are great but holy fuck if yoy haven't been playing it all your life like me the controls suck ass. Even if you are like the controls still suck, you just know how to work with them.
>>739791990
Ah damn mb, I was just looking for decent character portraits of these guys that were official, and struggled to find a decently high res one for Garrett.

While I'm here, you guys know any promising prospects in the indie scene? I mentioned Ninja Game by kusoge but I don't think he's working on it anymore. There's also Brush Burial and it's multiple sequels, but those seem to be more imsim than stealth? I played the first one, got to the puzzle part and lost interest. Tried the demos for the other ones, the takedowns are really erotic but it is quite tough. Those are the only indies I can think of.

I recommend Watch Dogs pacifism. You would be shocked how incorrectly playing the game makes it 5x better. For the original, you can be a pacifist around 90% of the time. There are a few moments where you're forced to shoot a bad guy to get in or out of a building. In the sequel, the entire game can be played as a pacifist. There is a mod that disables the OP gadgets/weapons here.
https://www.nexusmods.com/watchdogs2/mods/74

I think Legion would have been better than 2 had it not been for the pointlessly large map. Majority of the game will be spent travelling rather than stealth. It still scratches a certain itch if you enjoy the pacifist gameplay of 1 and 2. They have a DLC that brings back Aiden from the first game, but it's more like terrorism than pacifism. Even though traversing the big map is boring, I have to admit that the AI is rather great. Every single NPC has friends, families, jobs, and a schedule. If you accidentally run over an NPC, there is a chance you just pissed off your operative because that was his wife. If a generic guard defeats your operative, that guard will get promoted, changing his armor to something stronger.

Overall, I'd recommend avoiding the pointless Ubislop side content if you want to enjoy any of these games. Do not be fooled into thinking the maps have anything interesting to offer you. Your basic loadout is more than plenty to complete any Watch Dogs game.
>>
>>739789930
either supernatural/scifi abilities or non human enemies, monsters, robots. vanilla line of sight human guard stealth is just too contrived for me to really be excited for it anymore. knocking out blind deaf guards isn't exciting as a concept anymore
>>
>>739789925
Dishonored wasn't trying to be Thief, you'd think the magic powers, pistols, grenades etc. would clue people on to that.
>>
>>739799117

I only played the first Styx a long time ago, but I would say it's a 3/5 stealth game but a 5/5 climbing/traversal game. If you like climbing pillars and ceiling beams and ledges and finding routes, you'll love it, if you want complex guard interactions you'll find it basic.
>>
>>739789930
Enemy battle plans. Start with the basics like enemies running for help or sounding the alarm, then follow up with "if the alarm is sounded, fall back to positions X, Y, and Z" "raise the drawbridge" "escort the VIP to the safe room". You could get a lot more creative than that. Basically I want level-scale reactions to your actions and mistakes.
>>
>>739799226
It started off as Thief and then became its own game, just like Metal Gear on the NES, which was supposed to be a normal shooter
>>
>>739784040
Of these three franchises I've played games in the Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, and the Tenchu series. I'd be up for playing the other three one day. Especially the first Thief. Splinter Cell for me wins here as far as stealth gameplay goes. I guess MGS story and characters is more memorable but I thought the SC games had surprisingly decent storylines desu. Tenchu was quite fun. Lets hope Fromsoftware brings it back.
>>
how come more stealth games dont use light/shadow mechanics like splinter cell? its a relatively easy mechanic to implement.
>>
>>739799226
Just like how Sekiro was meant to be Tenchu originally
>>
>>739800991
because it's a contrived unnatural idea. it can work but you shouldn't expect other devs to use it by default.

My biggest pet peeve about the stealth genre is how the protagonist sticks out like a sore thumb. Historically, spies and ninjas blended in by dressing like normal people.
>>
>>739801127
This is not true at all. Its simply because the stealth genre isn't really much of a thing anymore outside of indie developed games. So there is no need to implement most of SC ideas into any game.
>>739800991
I wish these games handled health differently. Even on hard you are too tanky. Should have had very little health to make getting caught more punishing.
>>
>>739803391
In Splinter Cell there was some bullshit about his suit being so dark that it fully blends in to darkness or whatever. I don't remember the full details but they do at least explain it even if its absurd. Also his goggles do not glow bright within the lore of the game. That was only done for player feedback. You aren't wrong about what you said but really what else could be done? Games are about identifiable characters. Even at the cost of logic or realism.
>>
>>739805530

>The outer layer of the Kevlar was treated with a polymer fiber similar to the coating on stealth aircraft: matte-black, slightly rough to the touch for maximum light absorption. The micro-roughened exterior partially defuses light. Basically about 30% of whatever photons strike the surface gets trapped, if only for a split second, but enough to diffuse them. Bottom line: The suit allows the user to blend in with the shadows and darkness very well.

Thing is he doesn't always wear this suit in some missions but there is the explanation.

For me, it's Hitman: World of Assassination.
Not only my favorite stealth game, but my favorite game period, I must have spent thousands of hours on it over the course of 10 years, since 2016 when they first dropped the Paris level.
And I'm still playing it regularly.

IV2 was much better mechanically as a game but it lacked "one last stand" missions. Imagine if you had some massive shootout against unlimited and increasingly harder enemies in the Sean bad ending

I love mgs, both as a stealth game and a game overall, but SCCT is the only actual best stealth game ever made. Hitman isn't really stealth and before BM it was jank stealth that would result in a firefight anyways. Thief 2 would come close but I can't judge since I didn't play it
>>
>>739785272
When I saw the trailer I was really, really skeptical since A) They tried spinning conventional stealth mechanics as "reinventing the stealth genre" and B) They advertised 4 hours of content.
