Enjoying the mouse game so far, /v/ros?
>>
Now that I'm learning to put the shield away between missed parries I'm liking it a lot more
>>
>there are jumpscares in the game

why
>>
>>739912565
to make it scary
>>
I don't think it's for me, which makes me sad to be honest. I signed up because it was supposed to be like GBC Zelda with some Castlevania but instead it's mixing up "Soul" with "Souls" series on design. I've only cleared one tower after six hours of play and even cranked up all the modifiers to full Exploration Mode and still lost because the game is meant to be incremental exploration and unlocking paths for backtracking, and I'm just not seeing the fun in the game at this point after several hours with it. I'm glad others are enjoying it, though, but if I wanted to play a Souls game, I'd play a From Software game, not some LA pixel game imitating it.

I also don't like that combat is basically hammed up around the jump button for evasion and all. I wish there was actual dodging like back dashes which the hammer weapon gives but for all styles, and I still don't know what R1 / RB does outside of making Mina's sprite hunch or change slightly.

I can totally see why YCG is worried about going under if this doesn't sell well, since it's not for everyone, despite all the journos likely using the modifiers to get through it after Mixtape was their GOTY with no gameplay required.

Just find one interesting thing and follow it. For example at the start of the game I heard in town that one of the hollowers went missing and headed south to see what was up with that. Got that sorted then got back to town where I did a bunch of upgrades/unlocks/secrets before heading west and letting whatever seemed interesting guide me and ended up in the bayou dungeon.

I think the Zelda 2 system does the game zero favors and am baffled by its inclusion in the game.
>>
>>739915805
whats the zelda 2 system?
>>
>>739915805
What's wrong with it? I think it's nice to see something different than the norm.
>>
This game is a lot of fun but Mina is a terrible character so far. In-universe she's a completely infallible warrior-genius because that's the BlackRock-approved direction to take female protagonists of course but she acts real high and mighty for a ||common bike thief||. It would also be nice if they made her even a little bit cute/sexy and have her act like she enjoys life a tiny amount. She does not, in fact, look like she fucks human men, or anything else for that matter
>>
>>739916028
>fucked up the spoiler

Are there any glaring issues that need a patch?
>>
>>739916028
>In-universe she's a completely infallible warrior-genius
try playing past the first couple hours, polfag
>>
>>739916090
Yeah, her human boyfriend (me) is not in the game.
>>
>>739916019
I just think it's unnecessary, frankly. I believe the game would have been better off having no leveling system and being a straighter Zelda-like which it clearly wanted to be, but again, that's just my opinion on the game. It's decently well crafted beyond the inclusion of that.
>>
>>739916176
What would the souls be for then? They definitely wanted the soul mechanic in the game and the level up method is good enough.
>>
>>739916115
woah are you saying i haven't finished the game i just got yesterday evening yet
>>
>>739915956
The way the level ups work, You get prompted when you get enough bones, or delay the level up until you get enough for whatever your most expensive upgrade is, OR bank it once.

I don't think it really detracts anything, it just stands out a bit because its the zelda 2 system,
>>
>>739914432
Anon she will get you killed it is not worth
>>
>>739916236
The thing is it isn't really a soul mechanic,
its almost like a lives system in disguise.
you lose all your lives. your 'score' is reset.
the only way to get more lives is to either find the one you dropped or level up.
Its really nothing like the dark souls system at all.
>>
>>739916480
I can fix her....
>>
>>739916236
>What would the souls be for then?
The upgrades already present in the game. But no, your second point is a good way to summarize my qualm with it. It's hammered in there because they just wanted it in there and I think the leveling cheapens the greater whole of the exploration side of the game.
Again, fine game otherwise. I just prefer when everything is more balanced around your toolkit rather than some arbitrary level (which to some degree it still tries to be, to give it some credit).

>>

>>
>>739917237

>>
>>739917145
You can't enter while holding it and it'll eventually kick you out and leave without you. If there is a way to get it out of the bayou, I haven't figured it out. There's maybe two item spots I can think of that seem like they'd need it though.
>>
Loving it, it absolutely leaks soul and care.

Absolutely fuck the bayou/swamp level. Fuck it to hell, never been happier to be done with a segment in a game in my life. I don't know why indie devs keep thinking to themselves

If you guard a hit, the shield cracks and won't guard or parry the next one. You want to put it away then take it back out at that point.
Outside of parrying, the shield throw upgrade is pretty amazing to extend by burrowing.

>>
I think a large part of my opinion is going to be on how much shit carries to NG+ because there's way too many money sinks in this game. Money sink for upgrades, cloaks, underlab additions, core progression.

At least enemies actually scale cash pretty well, unlike Silksong's broke niggas.

There are a lot of hidden modifiers that need a new save to start by entering in a certain string for the save name. The most interesting one is "CH&BACKER" because it's for select backers from the crowdfund. Who knows what that one does. I wonder how long it will take before those journos copy paste this list without researching kek.

>>
>>739911812
I'm at the halfway point, three generators restored. Seven and a half hours, fourteen deaths total so far. Weapon of choice - Nightstar, fully upgraded as far as I know, done it twice.

I feel like the game is getting easier as it goes on, not harder. I'm much more robust and can take more than a few hits. I just unlocked train travel, but I'm stumped on how to get to Bone Beach.

To get to bone beach you need to go two screens south from town and then head east until you see a big pit. You can jump up onto the purple plant and go down the stairs. Burrow under the purple plants on the ground and you can move them. Then you need to go out and down and in front of the house, move the plant in front of the blue barrier to the south and jump onto it. Then head east. If you fight a giant rat enemy you are going the right way to enter the Sandfalls. Unlock the building in the middle after a puzzle and you will then be at Bone Beach.
>>
>>739923453
There's a basic map you can see later but there's no good one. And there's not likely to be one because Yacht Club even advertised the fact there wasn't one as a feature.
>>
>>739923614
There is actually a map that shows you locations of sidearms and collectibles later on.
>>
>>739923519
You can MOVE the plant? What the fuck, man, did anything in the game hint at that?
>>
>>739923453
You'll get upgrades to your base that will let you save a sidearm (and keep the one you have after dying)
>>
>>739923453
You don't need a map because the world is more linear than it lets on. You can't get lost, you will always hit something big if you keep simply moving forward. Also the problem with the sidearms is mitigated multiple ways, you can store two of them at your base through upgrades and you can buy another upgrade behind the music joint from the purple guy once your sidearm level is 5. That one will let you hold two at the same time and switch between them on the fly although they share joules charges.
>>
>>739923705
No, but I guess you're intended to discover it accidentally or something.
>>
>>739923705
Yes, actually. If you were paying attention the one right outside of town had bones clearly buried underneath. Getting the bones would have forced you to learn how the plant moves. Many complaints about this game are like this, you thought you were paying attention but you were not. This one is on you anon.
>>
>>739923705
You can only move the ones that are on the ground rather than mid-air.
And they're surrounded by buried bones peeking out from under them so you'd have to be clinically journalistic to miss it.
>>
>>739911812

I actually pushed on the plant and it didn't move though, that's why I'm so baffled. I went by that old manor and the purple plants three times seeing if I could figure it out. I'm gonna try it again right now.
>>
Okay I see you have to burrow under the plant, I didn't think of that cause the main thing you do it jump to bounce off of them. I didn't even recognize the green underneath it as bones, they looked like vines to me.

To anyone that played the game did they fix the issue the game had with depth from the demo? The demo poorly conveyed heights in areas and it was hard to tell what was above or below.

In the Gameboy Zelda games it was easy to tell when you were going up or down in elevation but the tileset in Mina just looked too flat.
>>
>>739924169
I'm a glassesfag with fucked eyes and don't have any trouble telling above from below.
>>
>>739924108
Now get into the stairs up above and then make it east through the cave. Then you're on your way to Bone Beach. Remember that the purple plants let you jump up all the ledges outside. Also you can through a plant over a pit and as long as it lands on solid ground you can move it again. You can also throw it into a pit and make it fly.
>>739924150
nice try shlomo.
>>
>>739923453
Have you not been to the Hallower's Guild house? It should solve those problems, like giving you a map and letting you store sub-weapons. Also so far every puzzle room that needs a sub-weapon for it has a candle nearby with the required one.

I saw that too. Then I noticed the max trinket size was six and I tried to put two and two together. I bought the last stone from the guy under the station but he says he can't deliver it until I beat another generator. I just started on Mount Coltrain so it'll be awhile. Hopefully some other anon comes by with the answer. I doubt it though because there's hardly anyone as far in the game as I am.

>>
>>739925706
It's pretty easy actually. Equip the wallower gloves and go to the west part of town and then the big wide open door that leads to under the train station. Burrow into the wall and jump up the rope and pay four vials. Then go up and break the wall and burrow past the station j to the courtyard. Blow up the debris so you can heal without having to open the block again. Then go back west and fight the lion standing between you and the chest. You need five vials to open it. You can buy every upgrade from the furfaggot past the 4 vial block in the station underground.

I'm fine with everything in Septemburg except the wind. The Crypt: double back from the boss room until you come back outside, then go to the screen with the two statues you had to put heads on and burrow under the wall on the right, it's a secret spot and not marked except by sussing it out by going through the other side first

The Bayou: Keep going west until you reach a river going north to south, hop between the lilypads and head north until you find the moon. Beat it and the mirror is past that.

Septemburg: This one is pretty easy. You'll find it in one of the houses.

Bone Beach: This one is in a tent a few screens north of the mouth of the worm/entrance to the dungeon.

The other areas also have mirrors but they are not required. However they do have treats behind them. Do the crypt mirror first for a free extra trinket slot.

Like the other anon said, you need to fix up the Hollower's Guild which is the first building on the right when you're coming from the southern gate (it's next to the save point). To open up the building you need to come from the top-right side, you'll find a little alleyway with some boxes you just need to break and then you can access the building.

To unlock the option to buy the map you need to rescue one of the Hollowers who's trapped in a jail located on the south road, so backtrack to where you fought the Hulk Trooper (the first boss) and keep going down past the bats, instead of jumping onto the moving platform over the chasm, you keep going down until you can't any further and then go left. You'll find a Kear lock and need to beat some trooper enemies to reach teh building.

Once you rescue the Hollower guild member, head back to the guild, talk to them to get the back room cleaned up and then you'll need to talk to another hollower guild member who was in that room the whole time but had gotten buried under the rubble (he's like a pronghorn or something). He's who you can buy the map off. Although to my knowledge the map's kinda shit, unless I'm missing something it only shows you the general regions of the setting rather than being a specific screen-by-screen map like what LA and the Oracle games had.
>>
Is there a recommended way of getting through the Carving Man section, as far as I know he's invincible. I did find that you can burrow underneath the mandrakes and pick them up and throwing them kills them, but is there anything that particularly helps, I keep getting stuck at the second room where you're supposed to jump across a pit but there's a mandrake on the other side.
>>
>>739931546
...fuck. It's cause the screen on the right had a big pit where you need to make a long jump so I thought the solution for that would also be the way to jump the most tiles. I don't think the warp trick will work for that screen though
>>
>>739931440
So that's all there is to it? Cause I am shitting the bed trying to move and not get pushed. Sometimes I don't get pushed off a ledge and just stop, others I fall.

Also what's the cosmetic code? Amy other codes that don't affect gameplay or achievements etc as I don't want to cheat, just grab any code specific things.

>>
>>739931671
not really, just go fast and try not to get hit. Throwing the mandrakes at him might slow him down but I never really experimented with that
>>
>>739931571
Maybe they should've made the sprites a bit sexier rather than the inverse.
>>
>>739931768
It does it you mix it with the wallower gloves. I solved it by jumping diagonal from the long point, wallowing into the wall, and then throwing the disk before I fell down. I did fall but the disk landed and I was able to teleport when I respawned. It's worth it because behind that locked block the next screen over is a respawning item which seems to contain almost every sidearm in the game. It's right before a pretty hard boss.
>>
>>739931671
Make sure you save all three kids before the boss. Don't be like me, who fucked up and wants to reset the game now.
>>
>>739931783
Burrowing helps a bit against the push. Since she slows down and stop before lighting up, you can also move away from her which should also diminish the knockback.
I think there is a trinket that helps against knockback though I'm pretty sure I didn't have it when I did the escort.
Also, there is a boss fight at the end of the escort.

It's not anywhere online either. I think it got shared only here. It's only visual stuff so it doesn't mess with achievements. I've finished the first two, I was mainly looking to get to Septemburg's mirror for quick travel. I found the Wall Burrowing trinket was helpful for getting across the gap for the first one, the second one was way easier.

Also they should change the placement of one of the slimes in the entrance room to the Graveyard dungeon, I was coming back up the stairs from the level below and the slime just crawled right onto Mina while she was still in the stair climbing animation so I took damage immediately.
>>
>>739926419
This pisses me off terribly.
I just beat the first tower and wanted the weaver item because it sounds like it would help with a few gapped areas.
Spent a large sum for it only to find I got nothing for it.
If I'd known, I wouldn't have bothered.

Also, the backtracking is unreal.
I assumed beating a tower would let me warp back to town or something like any sane game does but nope.
I had to go through everything to walk all the way back to town with my boss winnings.
Fast travel needed to be available early on.
Also fuck the lack of checkpoints in the swamp, glad that's over.
>>
Loving the game and turned on 2 towers despite it being an obviously bad idea. I just can't get used to burrowing as the dodge roll. I always get hit somehow. Carving man was annoying because I kept digging into him despite my best efforts. Still beat him but not without taking loads of damage. Any pointers?

Also I feel like I'd enjoy it a lot more if prices were cut in half. I don't mind wanting the player to have a sense of urgency to not die, but early on it's a chore. Not as much now at least.

I'm not asking for journo mode, just reasonable design.
Better shortcuts and a real map that doesn't suck would be nice too.

I'm going to play it "as intended" all the way through but no way will I want a replay, even with journo hacks.
I lol that a good number of the purchasable upgrades are just QoL that should be implemented from the get go.
Like a world map or keeping subweapons on death. You can't expect me to glob trot for a specific subweapon needed for a puzzle or to clear a gap.
Imagine if link lost his bow or hookshot everytime he died and had to walk, yes WALK, all the way to where he got it and then walk all the way back.
I get that OG Castlevanias had you lose your subweapons on death but those games didn't require you to have a specific one to progress anywhere.

Nox's Bayou has a trinket that lets you stay underground longer. Sifted Sand has one that lets you chain digs together.
Best advice I can give is to not think of digging as a dodge and instead a repositioning tool. Think more Zelda or Castlevania. Once you start watching enemy patterns you'll br able to say to yourself "Okay, I can hit this guy twice before jumping and digging away."

He always jumps 3 times, burrow or otherwise dodge then get a couple hits in atter the third jump. Dont try to hit when he's jumping. After he throws out the balls or whatever he always stands still for a good few seconds where you can pile on the damage.

He always throws out the balls after doing the "dragging my whip around for a bit" attack.

I ended up using the Casket Shield to beat him. Also you can just walk off the screen to the left and come back later. I beat him after my third tower.

The character is too slow and the enemies are too fast. I realize they want me to burrow to avoid certain attacks, but more often than not the tells are too fast for how long it takes to dive down.
And then you're a tiny speck on screen and it's hard to tell where you actually are with all the shit flying at you.
And another thing, if you're going to incorporate bullet hell attacks, don't make the character's hurtbox the size of a skyscraper.
Mina's hurtbox is too big, the enemy hitboxes are too big, and they don't make sense in game space. Someone tell me why I can't walk behind the crock boss when he's standing even though I'm just scraping his head which should be a mile away.

Mina just showcases how most gamers probably use guides for games, it does the same thing as elden ring where you start out weak as shit but can easily get overpowered fast if you just explore instead of just throwing yourself head first into an area too difficult for you.
It does go a bit further with having a ton of important upgrades hidden behind having a brain however, it's incredibly easy to miss the island map for example.

Combat is almost 100% positioning and not rollslop.
You can lose your currency, but it doesn't happen until you die without any sparks left. You can simply spend it all when you think it's at risk, you can very easily get extra sparks, and there's multiple ways to get your sparks filled back up without actually having to go back where you died.
Flask shit is kind of the only thing straight up souls about it.

NTA but the GBC Zelda games used the Roc's Feather for a bunch of cool jumping shit, granted I think Mina does it better.
>>
No, the graphics look hideous. I can't tell what's happening because of the terrible animations.

So far I've done Crypt and Bayou, although I think I'm pretty close to having done Septemburg (I've had three run-ins with the Carving Man, but I went to do other stuff and got distracted). Haven't found anything about the Bone Beach, and took the train to Mount Coltrain but got my ass handed to me by Thorne so I'll come back to it later, I've got some access to the Astral Orrery but I've still got at least two mirrors to unlock.

I think if I just bit the bullet and did the areas in the order I found them it'd go;
> Crypt
> Septemburg
> Mount Coltrain
> Bayou
> Astral Orrery
> Bone Beach
>>
I went crypt -> bayou -> mountain -> septemburg so far

I mean the passive healing, he's not using any vials but recovering health on hit.
>>
>>739946529
No he isn't. Thats how healing in this game works. The yellow part is the "healable" part that you will recover once you drink your potion. It goes up when you hit someone and goes down when you get hit. That's his potential for healing but he isn't actually healing anything just yet. The blank space next to the yellow bracket is the "extra" health that the Primed Plasma Vials gives you.

>>739946662
You're right, I'm retarded, I thought the red health was increasing.

Huh, that's new

did the game update overnight?
>>
>>739946853
You bought an upgrade and forgot about it
Didn't get it yet but glasses drillbro sells let you see previous places sidearm spawned... obviously there's no detailed map so I figured this was exactly what it meant.
>>
>>739945930
2d zeldas have the spinny move that solve a lot of the headaches of the hitboxes in a 2D game.
>>
>>739946715
>>739946662
His health goes up a little at the end i figured he has an item that heals you on kill, or I think maybe I saw one it raises your max health temporarily on kill.
>>
>>739923705
You literally have to move the plants to get to the area to begin with. You know, in the cave you passed by to get there? That said, it took me a while to figure out how to get to the bone beach too, so don't feel too bad.

Welp, guess I'll never know what the band in the swamp were talking about.
>>
>enter a door that requires sparks
>trapped in a sudden inescapable sequence
>die
>2000 bones gone
I can easily grind that out again but man fuck you
>>
>>739947786
Just disable that modifier
>>
>>739947869
Not using any modifiers, the area required all my sparks so I didn't have any to save my bones.
>>
>>739947786
If it's the 3 spark door in the graveyard, bring the daggers for that place. The larger enemies there can't rush and insta-kill you thanks to the knockback.
>>
So now that the dust has settled, is the game actually good? Would be nice having a chill retro game to play when I'm taking a break from Crimson Desert.

Number one you can get the Proto Spark trinket and give yourself an extra life every time you die. Number two, and I can't believe everyone is too stupid to figure this out: When you die you don't lose your bones, you only lose them when you lose every spark. So if you're down to no sparks, then simply spend or bank them and then dive back in one more time.
>>739948050
Its one of the best games of the last 10 years.

>>
>>739947125
No just to get up to that area you can simply jump good to get by, in that cave you only need to move the plant to get to the shit on the bottom and the left sides.

I do really enjoy the game, although I don't think it's the 10/10 masterpiece that critics think it is. Also some of YCG's philosophy about this game is baffling (for one I WOULD like a good map for this game)
>>
>>739948084
There is no rolling outside of a single weapon though.
>>
>>739948050
It's fine. The main mechanic of burrowing is kinda half baked and doesn't feel good.

Is the mouse a whore like Hornet btw? Very important for if I buy the game

In game, no. Of course, for fan art it is a different story.
