Game looked fun and pretty in depth with weapon customization, combat stats and gore when I watched my streamer play it.

played dead island 1 for 50 minutes and it was the most insanely boring game I have played in a while. like I would legitimately rather stare at a wall and jerk off than waste energy playing itmaybe it's more fun with co-op but eating shit is also slightly more fun with friends too

I dropped it 4 hours in. The game has one thing: killing zombies, which is fun because of the gore system, but they pad it out with endless backtracking to hide the fact you've kinds seen everything after 2 hours.

Like the "fireman" for example? if you pay attention hes actually a male stripper and when you do the Haus dlc you find out the reason hes "got to get home to his brother" is because his brother is severely mentally disabled and their parents died and he dropped out of college to care for him. His dark secret he needs to confess to open the confession door is "sometimes... sometimes i wish he didn't survive the crash like my parents, so then i would be free...sorry brother" and he really sounds like he feels like shit for admitting it and its a really solid character arc for what people assumed was "generic white dude for chuds to have an option" but outside of Amy most of them are solid. Shes a leftover from the previous build/writers who wanted it to be "more like borderlands".

I've beaten it 3 times, its what i'd call a "summer game" in the same way RE4 is a "autumn game" for me. Exploring a LA at the height of summer during a zombie disaster is a nice vibe when the genre usually sticks to tropical shitholes of corrugated iron and shit.It felt like the first of these first person zombie games to really get some measure of the original pitch of dead island right enough. Though its also interesting for what it does that is unique, all the moreso because the ending attempts an interesting idea its not a virus but humans have a genetic countdown in our dna to cause this mutation and bites just activate it in others but its a Death Stranding style garuanteed extinction factor we always had and were counting down to but then you get the dlc that goes "eh the whole find a vaccine idea is a bit bland, what if its an extradimensional entity using dead flesh as a doorway into our world tied into fucking vrill and orgonne energy and the origin of the outbreak wasnt a virus but a special music track played at a festival activating that mutation waiting dormant in our dna instead?".Its still just a 7/10 but a solid 7 i think is worth playing.

>>739938430The setting and the characters of the game are such dogshit, really only something the then and now industry could come up with and think that is appealing for anyone but them. The whole card system was kinda sucky rather than regular skill tree (I picked the character who has standard skill for throwing things, because I assumed I could skill into throwing weapons and then I had to play it like a regular melee character anyway). Then you'd find locked boxes with unique keys all the time to a non-nonsensical degree (like a locked plastic cooler box) and the keys are nowhere near the location.
