I am playing Time and Eternity on my PS Triple right now. The use of 2D animation for all characters/enemies is awesome but man the gameplay loop gets tiresome quick. It can be fun, but more often than not it's a real test of patience. The game is also filled to the brim with those menial "go get/kill this" sidequests but despite usually avoiding them in vidya, here I feel compelled to do every single one and I really don't know why... I'm near the end of chapter 2 right now and the story has just kind of been whatever. I think the characters are likeable enough though and having full voice acting is nice; maybe that's what's keeping me going. I also prefer Towa over Toki

The story is also excellent until you get to the last act and it all falls apart, but the party members whose storylines wrap up relatively early like Freya and Vivi are just as kino as the cast from FF7. Remake legend of dragoon. That all i want out of a jrpg. I only say this because enough time has passed since my first play through that (and multiple other playthroughs) that I wouldnt mind an update. Even if its hot garbage I can jist play the original. But with E33 benefiting from dragoons combat style, I can see it going well.

Timed hits, and really active elements in general, don't have a place in the genre. Their presence almost guarantees some of the worst aspects (long animations with no way to skip) will be present.They're tolerable in a very limited capacity, like FFX's limits, but as a core part of the combat? Finished Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered last night. Its honestly a lot better than I expected considering the previous game was kinda shit. Aside from a few graphical bugs, the gameplay is significantly better than Monochrome Mobius in every way. The combat system is actually kinda interesting once you get into it, I hope their future rpg uses something similar. Unfortunately, even on hard the game is piss easy so you never really need to interact with it outside of a couple post game bosses. The story was good and went places I didn't expect. There were a few rushed side plots in the mid/late game, but they managed to stick the ending which was my biggest worry going in since this is the final Uta game. Would absolutely recommend if you're a fan of the series hesitant to pick it up or are willing to play the previous 4 games (3 of which are excellent) to get to it.

Anything hit you in the feels recently? I've been playing Tobiden (idk why people call it that instead of gale wings or legend of the door but w/e) and FE9 brutalized me, there's something about stopping to see how far you've come and catching up with all the friends you've made over the course of your journey that gets me bad. That isn't even going into the actual plot of the door which is ridiculously sad, I really hope it doesn't end like this for a certain character because it's just too much.

I played Metaphor first and the amount of text and dialogue was intolerable, especially given how much of it is repetitive inane drivel. The relationship paths all follow an identical format where you meet a character who represents a particular viewpoint or archetype, they don't have much character outside of that besides a single personal quirk or idiosyncrasy (Hulkenberg likes to eat and say 'tis), they tell you their past, they confront somebody from their past, they display some sort of inner conflict, and then that conflict is resolved via power of friendship. All of that dialogue is insanely verbose and repetitive and could be condensed into a quarter of the text. I'd wager 60-70% of the game is reading if you actually take the time to read everything rather than skim for key words as I did, which would be fine if each line of text were actually providing interesting new information or character development. Playing Grandia currently and loving it. The writing is basic but it lets you actually get on with the game. You're never reading for more than 5 minutes before you get to go back to exploring or dungeon crawling. Gonna play Octopath next and then another retro one after that, maybe FFIV which I started but never finished as a kid.
