I'd have been fine with a paid expansion, rather than three whole extra fucking campaigns for free because I bought the game earlier. I guess they really just want to get back to the other projects to keep the money rolling.

no matter what, reusing the same world and assets and engine is going to be more cost and time effective than doing a whole new game
I don't think they need to do the shovel knight thing where they work in the same game for about a decade but at least one major expansion would be nice instead of just having to wait for a sequel in 7 years

Watch them churn out games that are basically dlcs but actually completely seperate apps.

the roll isnt really a dodge, its more useful as a strafe. you charge up in advance and then start a fight with a huge sucker punch or you can be defensive with it

Just 100% the game. It's okay but the combat system kinda sucks. It just incentivizes you to tank the hits and bombard the boss and then run away and heal to full. They tried to copy Hollow Knight/Silksong except it doesn't work because the heal amount isn't limited like in those games. The trinkets also completely break most of the level design and let you jump over half the pits.

Yeah. I enabled Veteran Mode, checked the Allows Feats category and put all the modifiers listed as On from that category into notepad.
And then I checked the Enabled category, and the shop price category was the one modifier that I apparently wasn't included in the Allows Feats category.

That's kind of disappointing. Doubling shop prices would kind of aptly nerf the merchant that allows you to buy trinkets from all other merchants. Since buying things from that merchant is already more expensive, so making those prices double ontop of that would make them very expensive. Which is honestly fair.
And it'd be a fun modifier in general. Forcing you to be more selective in how you spend your bones.

I was truly swimming in bones by the end of my NG0 regular initial playthrough. So I wouldn't mind higher prices.
But I guess I'll uncheck the option if it's the only way to not permanently disable feats for my Profile. Especially if I wish to do even more NG+s in the future.
But now I'm apparently running some kind of mini-Veteran Mode.

Maybe I could raise Boning Up from 20% to 50% to compensate? That modifier is still in the Allowed category.
But Yacht Club should unironically address this in a patch or something. But I kind of doubt they will. But maybe.
I'm guessing the Shop Price modifier is excluded because it's a modifier with 3 options. And Cheap makes the game easier. Random can still make you luck out. And only the Pricey option makes the game consistently more difficult. But then that should probably be a separate modifier or something so that Veteran Mode actually allows for Feats because it's silly that it doesn't currently.

All that said. I still super love the game. It's an unironic GotY contender for me. They outdid themselves.
Which is why I'm so down to instantly start a new playthrough the very moment I finished this first playthrough of mine. But Veteran Mode not allowing feats is a mishap and should be fixed.
>>
>>740193071

I’m having fun but I have to take breaks. Sorry but some of the platforming sections are just mind numbing. Like the run from the autumnburg or whatever it’s called boss that has wind blowing mechanics and there’s a mandrake hidden right where you’re supposed to jump that knocks you into a pit. Like fuck you. Also the connection to the sands area that’s pitch black and you have to follow the glinting shit on the ground, it’s too much
>>
>>740195097
I forgot the boots affected water. I just put them on to not be slowed by stairs.
>>
>>740195050
You can skip a lot of stuff with an item obtainable in the same area. There's a ton of ways to trivialize platforming, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I mean the gold on the ground reveals plenty of ground to stand on. Even if it disappears after you pick it up.
But you can get through the cave with no hint other than the water droplets from the cave ceiling. Seeing where they land.

the drops in the ceiling also show you which areas are walkable

Honestly I think its kind of smart.

Gamers are very very stupid and deliberately choose unfun options then complain about it.
By making it so veteran mode disables feats, the kind of gamer that would rage on the internet is filtered back to baby mode, and less likely to poison the community with pointless rage.

The keys/kears are the most pointless and annoying thing I've seen in a game. They just shoved them in because Zelda had keys but the developers don't really understand why Zelda had keys.
>>
>>740197186
Yeah this makes sense. For a game that is designed to run at 60 (or higher) fps, having everything be locked to a grid would look hella choppy and/or induce a shitton of input lag.
>>
>>740197596
Seems to be a long-term consequence of exposure to the Spark, it's also possible that the natural presence of Spark before the towers were built was never concentrated enough to cause mutations, from what we see a mutation basically requires direct contact with the energy from a spark tower as was the case for the Carving Man, Thorne and Deluxy.

Although this is just inferring from what's not said in-game, since tmk they never mention monsters existing when the towers were first being built. It's absolutely still a failure of the writing of the game that basically everything around Lionel is just one fuck up after another.
>>
>>740197719
They're pointless and annoying because the game is "open world" so the keys are relegated to unlocking optional things, yeah.

I mean he's alright, I think the issue is that the mutants are just one part of the Orrery rather than being the central focus of the area like the Carving Man was for Septemburg or the sea monster was for Bone Beach. I will say I do think it's cute they made the boss have three phases like it just refuses to die, I kinda wish they'd made the rest of the skeleton fight alongside the skull as like little one-hp nuisances although that'd require them changing the arena for that third phase most likely.

>The game is more complex than Shovel Knight to develop
>The devs keep coming up with more ideas and the scope balloons again

>The game needs to reach 200k copies sold for the company to stay independent

Decided to see what no underlabs mutator does if you die. You get kicked aaaaaaall the way back to the ship and everything respawns. Not sure about when the ship stops burning but it's probably kicked all the way back to the ship and everything respawns. So if you want to do a no-respawning playthrough you will ironically need backup saves. Maybe someone can suggest a "No respawns" mutator.

Yeah he's a really rough boss, but you need to know two things: You can jump into the rings to break them, and the bone snakes die in one hit with a blow to the head. The phase when he breaks free needs patience above all since any attack when he is bouncing around is suicide.

Good at teaching you how fucked up giant hitboxes are. Also teaches you that it's worth trying to take objects to different screens.

Mostly cool because it had been chasing you the entire dungeon. Simple but effective.

Tends to range from "what the fuck is going on" the first few attempts to "please just let me hit you" when you get used to it, but it's a pretty cool boss if you don't get stuck waiting years for an opening on the second phase.

8/10, easiest but honestly kinda like the decapitation themes and world built around the crypt. would like some more back story.

>Nox's Beast
6/10, its just a big croc, the only neat thing about it is when it eats the enemies in the big lagoon.

>Carving Man
11/10. but its all on the world building and atmosphere. the fight is kinda basic. You probably forgot his gimmick is lightning.

>Mined Mine
6/10 Actually kinda hard and not fun. juggling popping the red rings, shooting the eyeballs, and slapping his last eye as he bounces around the arena. Mostly annoying because his first phase is so trivial.

>Locomotress Agnes,
9/10 Honestly i think it says something about how good the world design is that I consider polar express from hell kinda bland. Because of how late she is in the game she is kinda easy, especially compared to the thorne fight.

Never really felt like I was in danger or had to be really careful, because there's checkpoints everywhere and "run backs" were never more than 30 seconds or so. But honestly I'm still very early game myself and I can see you can upgrade your death buffer for the corpse run, which sounds pretty great. But also means, yeah, with the runbacks being so short, once you upgrade your sparks to having more than one dying is really not that bad.

I literally only lost my bones one(1) time and it was early game. After that, never again because of the short runbacks and upgrades buffing you to hell. Honestly this game has a really weird difficulty curve where ONLY the early game is difficult, and once you get past the first couple dungeons, you have enough health/damage upgrades to just steamroll everything.

I have been here before multiple times and tried various jumps but it never occurred to me this specific wall was the jumpable one.

Pretty interesting. I had a similar experience with Nine Sols (I definitely lost my shit more than once, but it was still all early game, past the midpoint I don't think it ever happened anymore) but there it was just me actually learning to parry which was hard as balls at first but gradually lets you become a god as you get more skilled at the game.

For all the talk of being soulslike, it's a bit lame if it just lets you power up early rather than just making you git gud to avoid deaths.

Yeah it's not clear at all. It's the only zone that I had no idea how to get into, solely because that one spot is the intended method.

The game only felt "soulslike" in early game when you had to carefully approach most enemies since they could wreck you. But once you get a few health and defense upgrades you can just facetank everything no problem.
