I really don't think you need Aerith for anything honestly in Rebirth, unless you just want a mage in the party, but Yuffie can use every element and does high crit/damage. You can just give spell materia to Cloud and build him like a mage if you wanted to do so, but even Cloud has access to pretty much every element aside from things like gravity, comet, quake, etc. You can just give him those materia though. You don't get double-casting though like Aerith's wards or some of her other unique skills. I still don't think it's worth having her in the party when Yuffie and Barret are ATB machines, and I personally just like having Tifa in my party. She does high damage, has good ATB rates, and can manage to take blows and not die in two hits. She's also just fun to play if you learn combos with her.

Barret is super tanky and a good healer, but Aerith can do a lot more damage than him during stagger with double cast from a ward and her fully charged Transcendence. If you're just doing a story run then you don't need to sweat how to make Aerith work well anyway.>>740780602If I'm just using Aerith, my strategy was always to pair plenty of First Start with ATB Boost to get Chrono Ward and Radiant Ward up with Red on perma-Bodyguard while Cloud is free to do his thing. Radiant Ward turbocharges her attack ATB gain, Red gains all his Gauge and ATB benefits from blocking materia, and Chrono Ward gets anything that gets through. At that point she's pretty free to build ATB for whatever she needs it for. I have ATB Assist on Red and can pop his good Vengeance skills afterwards which share even more ATB.

For Rebirth on PC you can use the party select mod to accomplish this and even change the character you lead as outside of battle. Not all the animations are there for everyone though (only Cloud can use Chadley's scanner and you'll get locked sometimes if you need to pull it out to talk, lots of small rigging glitches in other animations).

I never figured it out, and so when they force you to use her I just spent the whole battles making her dance around and waiting for her to fill up an atb bar so I could use a spell or something.
