Yes. Phil Spencer had leaked emails from 2020 where he bragged about wanting to buy-out Nintendo and stated "Nintendo's future is outside of their own hardware".

On top of this, the 2024-2025 multiplatform push from Xbox resulted in basically zero Nintendo ports. Not even the obvious Nintendo-friendly games like Hi-Fi Rush or Sea of Thieves got Switch or Switch 2 ports. Halo, Gears and Forza all went to PS5 but not to Switch 2. Bethesda is the only subsidiary of Microsoft which came out with consistent Switch 2 support, but they tend to operate of their own volition rather than simply taking orders from MS.

Microsoft is an extremely hostile entity towards Nintendo. It's very obvious if you actually follow what's going on in the industry. I wouldn't even be surprised if the reason the recent Persona games are skipping Switch 2 at launch is because Microsoft might've inked a "Do not release these games on Nintendo within 1 year of launch" clause into their Goy Pass deal with Atlus.

Final Fantasy is always crazy overrepresented in Famitsu polls for one reason or another, from stuff like this to just the "most anticipated games" surveys that Famitsu runs regularly.
If people actually bought the recent FF games as much as they were constantly listed in there Square-Enix wouldn't be constantly trying to throw shit at the wall. Maybe it's just boomers that played on the Famicom/Super Famicom/PS1 in its golden age.
Japanese magazine polls also tend to suffer hard from recency bias, so FF7 especially is gonna get a lot of signal boosting. When the Undertale port and Deltarune ports came out, Sans made the Nintendo Dream character poll around that time.

5 years ago when SE was promoting FFX's anniversary stuff, FFX characters were all over Famitsu's and other polls.
Right now we got

I see FF7R less as franchise rehab and more like franchise retirement home. The audience is now old and spends more, time to milk them for every dollar they've got before the series fades away entirely. FF7R is a dream come true for many fans. But it's not something that could've been started 10 or 20 years from now. It'd be finishing up in the 2040s or 50s at that rate. It had to be completed before millennials got too old to play it at all. And before the original developers fucking died of old age.

Even by 2021 it was clear the live service market was not growing and the established players were what it was going to be, hence the most noteworthy live service trailers just being COD and Fortnite.
Live service is the most profitable business model but it's also the most expensive, and the lack of infinite free money and no real new successes after 2021 put a hard stop to any projects outside of the big publishers like Sony's numerous failures.
Any serious publisher would have pivoted away a long time ago. An intelligent publisher would've never done it in the first place.
