next sentence, retard. games are poorly made. why protect something that is neglected in the first place? if anything, competition would improve quality. As we have seen, after Palworld, Pokemon has been trying different things

That is one patent with 26 steps, is not part of any lawsuit, nor has any relation to palword what so ever.

So I ask again, which youtuber told you otherwise?

The patent indeed contains 26 claims and indeed affects Palworld, what youtuber told you otherwise?

If people had actually read the damn thing, because PocketPair had changed all the stuff that Nintendo had said was infringing on their patents for their release, Nintendo can't really go after them anymore. They can only go after the earnings before the changes, with is roughly that small amount that they've been asking for in the first place. Nintendo already got everything they wanted from this aka they got PP to back off while stalling the fuck out of them in court.

>>740910562
>The patent indeed contains 26 claims
That's not what you said. You said 16 payent claims were rejected. One patent claim was reject. That patent has 26 steps. And no, it has literally nothing to do with palworld.
>>
Revenge status?
>>
>>740910579
So basically all nintendo got out of it is getting patents rejected and some pocket change, it'd be smart of pocketpair to counter-sue eventually due to the patent trolling damages.

yes, that's how patents work retard it prevents people from using a similar concept so theres no more palworld likes, if they truly cared they would've gone after any other game with an object being thrown at a creature to capture them, also its funny how your genuinely being a retard just to avoid refutation
>>
>>740910579

>>740910642
Do you even know what a patent claim is? The patent being rejected has 26 claims, that is a correct statement and you could have avoided making that stupid post by reading the link.
>>
>>740910601
they'll win on 30k in damages but they cant stop palworld from releasing. they can go after palworld-likes if they use the same patents that were a problem initially
>>
>>740910579
>They can only go after the earnings before the changes, with is roughly that small amount that they've been asking for in the first place.
Uh no, palworld sold 99.99% of their copies during the period Nintendo is targeting. It is by far the largest amount of money they could poasibly get.
>>
>>740910560
I'm afraid I don't get my information from any youtubers. Does that answer your question?

>>
>>740910664
>change the thing violating the patent in question
>counter-sue for patent trolling
If they changed it that means they caved in to nintendo, they wouldn't need to change anything if they weren't violating anything.
>>
>>740910664
Anon, they still have the patents, what was happening was the normal process of courts and the company deciding how specific those patents applied to ensure it's not some overall vague shit like trying to patent touch screens. Remember, however much Nintendo spent here, PP had probably spent a lot more and had to delay their release til now, nevermind they can't try to steal another idea from Nintendo without going through all this shit again. And this time, the court will probably start applying punitive damage because they should have known better. So PP will probably start stealing ideas from other companies now.

PP will have to pay-at most-30K to nintendo, and that's if Nintendo actually wins, which just isnt going to happen. If they had such a slam dunk case they would've won or settled ages ago.
>>
>>740911140
Palworld didn't have to delay any release nor were any "ideas stolen" to begin with, your post is some weird tendie fanfic.
>>
>>740911131
They accepted that they stepped over a line, took all steps to rectify it, and Nintendo punishes them as a result. They should have just said fuck it and actually put ripped assets in palworld
>>
>>740911208
I ask again, is youtube the only source of information you're familiar with?
>>
>>740911320
It's even funnier considering they future-proofed every change by introducing mod support to steam.
>>
>>740911140
Pocket Pair releasing two collabs, revealing a spin-off and a card game with a significant Japanese publisher is exactly why most people have assumed up to this point that they were taking the lawsuit in stride.
>>
>>740905402
They also created legal precedent that advertises to every dev in the world exactly how far they can go in blatantly ripping off pokemon.
>>
>>740907760
Is it a bad thing though?
If Nintendo isn't allowed to force a monopoly, they'll have to improve their games instead.
>>
>>740911287

They just copied Animal Crossing and the Pokemon TCG instead.

dude they still would've done it even if palworld didn't exist to this day, im genuinely getting tired of this excuse that getting rid of palworld would rid the game market of clones or ripoffs, when it's clearly an exaggerated excuse.
>>
>>740911748
And when were those changes made?
>>
>>740911698
They can do whatever they want as long as they don't infringe upon any patent. Mihoyo is releasing an animal crossing gacha and Nintendo doesn't give a fuck. Besides, they already released Pokopia so whatever Pocketpair does with their Animal Crossing clone will just not match up.
>>
>>740911580
>after PP made those changes.
Which happened after they sold 99.99% of their copies so far. Nintendo is targeting the pre chage era, of which pocketpair literally admits guilt, because they fucking changed it as a result of the lawsuit.
>>
>>740911645
Dinossom's face is more reminiscent of a gen 1-2 Pokemon. The visual identity is completely different now
>>
>>740911645
In a perfect world the corrupt patent officers that even granted them the bogus patents would go to prison, nintendo would be slapped with a hefty fine and legal repercussions for bribing government employees, and there would be better systems put in place to prevent any more future patent trolling, but this is not a perfect world.

>>
>>740911856
The week after Nintendo sued them. Everyone notice the jankiness of PP removing that feature from the game. They eventually re-added the ball itself but the entire motion of throwing it to release it is forever gone.
>>
>>740911514
>nintendo spent 40 million USD on litigation between march 2025 and april 2026
90% of that has to have been used to fight pocketpair, that's nothing for nintendo but that's a metric shitton for an indie studio, I'm only assuming most of the money being burned is on nintendos side because their probably hiring per hour lawyers who only know how to dick around for 16 hours a day
>>
>>740911937
>They eventually re-added the ball itself
Juding by how the lawsuit is going, they'll re-add the throwing animation too

>>
>>740911969
>I'm only assuming most of the money being burned is on nintendos side
Yeah, you have no godamn idea how expensive lawyers are. If they had hired the cheap shit, they wouldn't have changed the stuff that was infringing the patents because only good lawyers tell their clients when they can't fucking win like that.
>>
>>740911753

Nintendo has many, many retarded patents such as a sanity system (which forced Amnesia devs to adapt their own system), characters looking at points of interest or basic physics systems like characters standing on and moving along with vehicles. Patent offices are just a joke in general and there should be some massive corruption probes on them.

Nintendo doesn't care if you make a game like Pokemon, because the Pokemon games don't really make that much money compared to the overall brand. The multmedia and merchandise earn orders of magnitude more money; like a factor of ten. Notice how they ignored Pocket Pair for like eight months and it wasn't until PP started branching into a multimedia agreement that the lawsuit came down? If you step on the ACTUAL source of Pokemon's revenue, Nintendo will find anything and everything they can to throw at you.

The negative attention and scrutiny nintendo got over their scummy practices was a net positive in the end, the director ordering a reexamination on a shitty patent is a very rare event and shows at least a tiny bit of goodwill, I doubt it would happen but it would be great if it led to a snowball effect of how much people are willing to tolerate patent trolling.

Video games back then were all ripping off something, Nintendo won the Donkey Kong lawsuit because universal ripped off king kong from someone else and then claimed it was in the public domain, destroying their own argument. Even if that didn't happen it's obviously parody, just like how palworld, pokemon with guns, is obviously a fucking parody.

Now its circled around to Nintendo being universal and playing the hypocrit, things are exclusive when it suits you and an obvious parody when you're the one making it but when other people do it it's infringing on copyright.

Nintendo is pulling up the ladder behind them and the fans cheer as usual.

Good, it should. If they can't compete with a product and would rather IP hoard concepts they deserve to lose. Copyright in and of itself is retarded, you should only be able to protect the actual direct labor you create yourself, not the very CONCEPT of your labor, but that's not what money wants, so whatever. At least the hubris is far enough that Nintendo's getting the law to strike back at them.

Nintendo started as a company designing and selling hanafuda trading cards which were basically exclusively used by Yakuza gambling houses and many Yakuza had tattoos with Nintendo designs, during a period when those products were outright banned so it's not like they even had a good presumption of innocence. Nintendo has always been very close to an actual criminal syndicate and simply adapted their business tactics, and it's also why current Nintendo is so sheepish about its own history.

They probably took so long to sue bc they were applying for patents to use in their lawsuit. Nothing in the lawsuit even had anything to do with multimedia franchising. I think the reason they sued was the resemblance to pokemon, and the fact that it effectively proved there is a market for high-budget monster collectors besides pokemon. We are just now starting to see the ripple effects of palworlds' success, which is a deluge of chinese pokemon games that will start to eat into pokemon's market share bit by bit.

Negro, THE LAWSUIT IS IN JAPAN. Anything regarding Nintendo filing patents in the US (completely unrelated to Palworld) has zero bearing on the lawsuit IN JAPAN. Nintendo has owned the patents used in the lawsuit for years.
You don't even understand what "patent trolling" means. Nintendo never used the 26 patents they recently filled in the US against anyone.
This is the actual fucking level of understanding, awareness and logical thinking Paltards have. How embarrassing.
>>
>>740920975
Nintendo was granted the patents before Palworld ever launched.
I know Paltrannies just make shit up with what their feefees tell them and think law works based on gut feeling, but you can just look it the dates.

>>
>>740920975

>>
>>740921045
This is a retarded argument, the lawyers can draw their arguments from patents filed in the US

If you're filing patents in bad faith globally they'll show that as proof of copyright misuse and the judge will take that into consideration.
>>
>>740921045
How does any of that change the fact the patents are obviously bogus? The only reason why they were even approved is because nintendo is a criminal syndicate and patent examiners are corrupt and retarded. The obviousness/bogusness of the patents is obvious if you read them and are remotely familiar with games.
Dunno what 26 patents you're sperging about and the reply chain is talking about that one patent that was retroactively rejected recently, are you being confused about the difference between claims and patents?
As for the lawsuit in particular, nintendo's position is extremely weak and even in a best case situation for them they get nothing of value since their initial (bogus) claim has been severely diminished.
>>
Unbelievable, so basically you can copy whatever you like and the courts will protect you...

What I don't understand is the need to patent mechanics. Even if two games have the same mechanics, the one with more quality and popularity will always win, with popularity being more important than quality itself. From the 5th to the 7th generation of consoles, it wasn't uncommon to see tons of games that were copy-pasted from each other, and what always dominated were the most well-known ones, and those with, for example, better stories (the ones that come to mind were the Call of Duty and Gears of War clones; almost all of them went unnoticed). I would understand those patents if it were to prevent someone from suing you. EA, which is a terrible company, has its patents, and as far as I know, they've never sued anyone over them.

Also another adjacent fun fact, none of the mechanics that they were sued for showed up in the original trailer. I mean that much is obvious since the whole thing was mostly prerendered anyway while PLA was just straight gameplay.
>>
>>740926486
>Ultimately they might return for 1.0 if the trailer is anything to go by.
If they're retuning in 1.0 that's because they changed them. That's how that works.
The articles are wording it as if Nintendo reduced their scope but they have a full on injunction against them using them meaning they can't use the mechanics until the lawsuit is settled. That also proves what everyone has been telling retarded Palworld fans in the first place that patents are
1) about the function, not concept
2) are piss easy to get around because of how specific they are

>>
>>740929495
NTA but everyone has explained it you're just too retarded to get it.
The idea is just throwing a ball, there's nothing else there. The mechanic is HOW the ball is thrown so how it's done in Red and Blue isn't the same thing as Arceus because one is just a simple animation with 3 rolls of RNG to determine capture while the other requires three different inputs to enter an aiming mode, launch a physics based object and then it rolls the RNG three times.
>>
>>740922079

>>
>>740932068
>Patents ONLY pertain to mechanics anon.
But specifically summoning a character by throwing an object that releases the character into the field vs summoning a character in some other way would be different patents.
Nintendo basically twisted itself into a pretzel just to get the patents to not get cancelled but it's ultimately playing against them since sidestepping the issue is entirely trivial, as palworld as shown.
>>
>>740932083
>It's about summoning from a distance using projectile
That wasn't what they were being sued for by the way, they're being sued for three different patents and none of them are that.

Anyway, that's still the concept and not the mechanic. The mechanic is about how many buttons need to be pressed, what the buttons do, how it interacts with other objects and so on and so forth, that's why patents are so detailed it covers every little function and interaxfion that they thought of.

It isn't that hard to understand. I mean, if you can understand that a gun and a bow and arrow aren't the same thing but both launch projectiles you can understand this.
>>
>>740932435
And they still lost the patent anyway
>>
>>740920787
How do you patent basic physics
>>
>>740932401
No, they have a patent for the concept of summoning a creature you've captured and using it to either ride or hang under to glide.
>>
>>740932068
>because they changed the mechanic
In what way? You're still throwing a ball in an arc to capture a monster and you're throwing a ball in an arc to release it.
Wont you explain your point further?
>>
>>740932493
>That wasn't what they were being sued for by the way, they're being sued for three different patents and none of them are that.
The patents aren't what they were being sued for at all. The patents were made as a means to enhance the lawsuit after it had already been set in motion. They are ultimately being sued simply because Game Freak "felt" like they were being unfairly competed with.
>>
>>740932623
Basic physics don't naturally apply in the digital world so that's somewhat understandable, though dubious whether nintendo really should be granted this patent.
>>
>>740932659
See >>740932493
If you physically aim (you arc them like nades) the ball then its a differnent mechanic. Patents are explicity not boiled down "press buttons to win game"
>>
>>740932435
>But specifically summoning a character by throwing an object that releases the character into the field vs summoning a character in some other way would be different patents.
Correct. But Pocketpair are being sued because they didn't do the latter and instead copied Nintendo's execution of the idea.

>Nintendo basically twisted itself into a pretzel just to get the patents to not get cancelled but it's ultimately playing against them since sidestepping the issue is entirely trivial
That's thing problem, it's trivial but Pocketpair didn't do it, they just straight up copied and infringed on their patent as they always do.

>>740932516
Which is also wrong, the USPTO is attempting to block their patents in the west but that's entirely irrelevant to a case that's happening in Japan since patents are regional, not international.
In Japan they still have the main patents that they're suing for but what they attempted to block were the branching patents made to separate each claim. Ultimately it's a fruitless endeavour to even try to block those since it doesn't affect the main patent or the case not to mention Nintendo could always appeal it.
>>
>>740932730
>The patents aren't what they were being sued for at all. The patents were made as a means to enhance the lawsuit after it had already been set in motion
Anon the patents were filed three years before Palworld released and before they even showed them in actual gameplay footage.

>The patent for summoning stuff by nintendo was applied for in july 2024 and granted two months later.
In America which is irrelevant to the conversation because this is a lawsuit happening in Japan where it was filed in 202. It was also originally filed in 2022, rejected and then approved in 2024 in America and patents go back to the original filing date, rejections don't change that.

>Palworld released in january that year, so unless pocketpair was supposed to look into the future, I doubt they voluntarily infiringed on a later patent.
They did, they're a Japanese developer that infringed on a game that showed these mechanics about two years before they showed that they had it in their game and the patents were published there in 2023.
It also doesn't help that they had to redo the game halfwag through development.
>>
>>740933243
Yes, Nintendo won by achieving their goal of blocking their patents from being used in Palworld forcing them to, for once in their development career, to be creative.
That was their objective otherwise they would have sued them for millions instead of 30k which both companies can shrug off.

It was worded in such a way that Nintendo could use it as grounds to sue pretty much anyone who tried to have a "throw projectile to capture enemy" system.
>create projectile aimed by player reticle
>fling at enemy
>run collision checks until the enemy and projectile come into contact or don't
>run function that [damages/attempts to capture] enemy
What they patented is one step removed from the entire concept of a throwing weapon in a video game.

Here's a link from 2024 stating that they wanted 5m yen, converted that's about 30k. So we've known that from the start.
>They're bringing back one of the biggest things GF managed to take away with the release update.
Yeah, it's almost as if they altered it so it doesn't infringe on the patent.
This isn't a copyright case, this is a patent case, it's all about functionality. You can change something minuscule and still get away with it just like when Sega failed to sue over Simpson road rage because it was just barely different from their version.
>It was worded in such a way that Nintendo could use it as grounds to sue pretty much anyone who tried to have a "throw projectile to capture enemy" system
Not how patents work. You're treating it as if it's copyright when the reality it that it has to be almost exactly the same and not just any throwable projectile.
Detail is the bread and butter of patent law, how did you think you would lie about that?
>create projectile aimed by player reticle
>fling at enemy
>run collision checks until the enemy and projectile come into contact or don't
>run function that [damages/attempts to capture] enemy
Note how you haven't actually said anything about the mechanic. You're doing the equivalent of describing the outside of a car while saying you're describing the action of combustion and the reactions taking place in a traditional engine.
>>

Anon, the JP patents were filed in 2021.
You're talking about the American patents.
This is one of the ones we're talking about https://www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp/c1801/PU/JP-2023-092953/11/en
>filed 2021
>published 2023
>>

>Here's a link from 2024 stating that they wanted 5m yen, converted that's about 30k. So we've known that from the start.
The article also helpfully confirms that the Japanese patents DID all get filed after Palworld came out, and that Nintendo's likely goal with the suit was to slow Palworld development to a halt to remove Game Freak's "competition".
>they altered it so it doesn't infringe on the patent
The goal of the patent was to make sure that Palworld didn't have anything that worked like Pokeballs even at a glance, and it has now failed at that.
>b-but they changed the function!!! they changed it!!!!!!!
Yeah they did.
>Sega failed to sue over Simpson road rage because it was just barely different from their version.
And the *intent* of Sega patenting the crazy taxi arrow was to try and keep the feature exclusively to themselves. The fact that they failed the same way Nintendo is currently failing doesn't help your case, it helps mine.
>it has to be almost exactly the same and not just any throwable projectile
The only similarity beyond "thrown projectile" is the generic idea of a projectile that tries to capture rather than damage the enemy on contact.
>you haven't actually said anything about the mechanic
The mechanic is the throwing of a projectile and running of a "check capture rate" function when it hits successfully.
>>
>>740934707
>>740934693
The timing here couldn't have been any better
>>
>>740932747
>If you physically aim (you arc them like nades) the ball then its a differnent mechanic
You mean like how it was when Nintendo filed the lawsuit?
>>
>>740934693
They were appended to an earlier 2021 "omnibus" patent but all the patent used in suing palworld were granted in 2024.
That's the kind of legal trickery that makes people rightfully not trust nintendo.
>>
>>740934707
>The article also helpfully confirms that the Japanese patents DID all get filed after Palworld came out,
Which we've established is about the American patents which doesn't have anything to do with this since they're suing them with japanese patents and as you can see here >>740934693
They were filed the same year Palworld was revealed, not when it was released.
>The goal of the patent was to make sure that Palworld didn't have anything that worked like Pokeballs even at a glance, and it has now failed at that.
No, no it wasn't. Goal of the lawsuit was to remove their patented mechanics from the game, not to remove the balls. The concept of a ball doesn't have anything to do with this which is why anyone and everyone can and has used that concept you'll see it in solid chunk of monster tamers and even games that reference pokemon like binding of isaac.
>Yeah they did.
And changing the function means it doesn't infringe which was Nintendo's goal.
>The fact that they failed the same way Nintendo is currently failing doesn't help your case, it helps mine.
So you're saying that Sega successfully got them to rework the mechanic and the only people saying that they failed are people like you who put feelings before facts? Because I don't think that's how that went.
>The only similarity beyond "thrown projectile" is the generic idea of a projectile that tries to capture rather than damage the enemy on contact.
Sure.
Except the entire mechanic functioned in the exact same way down to the amount of inputs required and times RNG was rolled to determine capture.
>The mechanic is the throwing of a projectile
No, that's the concept. The mechanic is how that concept is carried out, the inner workings so to speak.

So either the article I was linked explaining how Nintendo only ever wanted 30k outright lied about when the patents came to be, or this is meant to be deceptive in some capacity. It seems like several 2023 and 2024 patents were appended to one made in 2021, at a glance.
>>
>>740934939
>They were appended to an earlier 2021 "omnibus" patent
Which again is irrelevant, they're being sued in Japan with these patents filed in 2021 and published in 2023.
>That's the kind of legal trickery that makes people rightfully not trust nintendo.
It's not legal trickery you're just being tricked by journalists.
>>
>>740935228
>So either the article I was linked explaining how Nintendo only ever wanted 30k outright lied about when the patents came to be, or this is meant to be deceptive in some capacity
What happened was that Pocketpair posted the American versions of the patents on their site saying
>this is what they're suing us for!
And every journalist took that as fact ignoring that those were the American patents.
They also didn't say that there's a strict two year wait on patent approval so it's just a case of the truth being hidden from people who won't do the research.
>>
>>740935352
>What happened was that Pocketpair posted the American versions of the patents on their site saying
Can you link the site where they did that?
>>
Why are palsnoys ao emotionally invested in this? The only time your shovelware Skinner box is even remembered is when you’re desperately trying to shitpost against other more successful ips
>>
>>740935230
>these patents filed in 2021 and published in 2023.
No, that is the omnibus patent about general game mechanics which did not contain the mechanics used to sue palworld until they were added in mid 2024. I don't have a clearer way of saying it.
>>
>>740935443
It's on their site from a while back. Unfortunately I'm running short on time but it isn't that hard to find.
>>
>>740935494
That's okay, you can take your time to prove your point
>>
>>740935472
>which did not contain the mechanics used to sue palworld until they were added in mid 2024.
Don't try lying anon.
>>
>>740935526
As if this thread is going to be here when I get back.
>>
>>740935558
Again, you are conflating the dates of the omnibus with the specific patents used to sue palworld.
>>
>>740935172
>Goal of the lawsuit was to remove their patented mechanics from the game
The goal was to get an injunction to stop sales and shut Palworld down. I dont know why you're trying to defend Nintendo so hard when they put this lawsuit into action right before the PS4/5 release.
>And changing the function means it doesn't infringe which was Nintendo's goal
see >>740934795
>>
>>740935621
Anon, you are aware that you can't expand the scope of a patent after the fact, right? You can only reduce it meaning those patents would have had to have been there from the start.
>>
>>740935715
>The goal was to get an injunction to stop sales and shut Palworld down
The injunction was on the mechanics, not the game.
>>
>>740935172
>Which we've established is about the American patents
Oh, so the article completely misunderstood what patents were involved but was 100% accurate about Nintendo's goals with the lawsuit? Sure thing buddy. Sure thing.
>Goal of the lawsuit was to remove their patented mechanics from the game
The patents were made after Nintendo decided they wanted a lawsuit. Even if we use your date for when they were filed that's after they knew Palworld was coming. So the intent of the lawsuit wasn't to enforce a patent, the intent of the patent was to back up a lawsuit.
>anyone and everyone can and has used that concept you'll see it in solid chunk of monster tamers and even games that reference pokemon like binding of isaac.
Because Nintendo didn't view those as real threats to Pokémon's success. For whatever reason, they viewed Palworld as such.
>So you're saying that Sega successfully got them to rework the mechanic
Sega unsuccessfully attempted to make every game directly comparable with theirs worse to play. The intent was not that they thought the arrow was super unique and wanted to protect it, but to strike out at potential competition.
>b-but you're just going by your feelings!!!
Patenting game mechanics is never done out of an earnest belief that your ability to make money hinges on that mechanic being exclusive to you.
>Except the entire mechanic functioned in the exact same way down to the amount of inputs required
"Amount" of inputs? What, did you once try to argue that it was the same inputs and get BTFO?
Holding a button to activate a reticle to aim a projectile is generic, as is the idea of a projectile with gravity. Where is the specific idea that was infringed upon?

Right, so it's just a coincidence they tried to stop the game from being sold right before a major worldwide console release.
You still havent answered my question btw. Or should I take that as a tacit admission that Nintendo never had a case?

Multibillion dollar company has produced dogshit for 10+ years, it's not "theft" to prove the concept of a monster catcher isn't at fault
>>
>>740935782
That is why I called the 2021 patent an "omnibus". It's a widereaching patent that opens itself to numerous appendices that is somewhat vague enough to allow it.
If the mechanics used to sue palworld were already in the initial 2021 patent, why did nintendo feel to need to file subpatents in 2024 and use those for the lawsuit instead of the initial 2021 patent directly?
>>
>>740935782
>patent after the fact, right?
Which is why they are losing this and why notpokeballs are back in Palworld. Nintendo tried doing exactly that
