Demo releases in 3 hours!
What the fuck is it? Looks like sokoban.
>>741145565john blow's new game
>>741145565It's THE sokoban that will replace the entire genre from this point on
They're calling it Sucknfuck ban
>>741145449Brains will be blasted
>>741145585That pretentious cunt is still going?>>741145608I guessed right from the visuals so good job, I will give him that.
>>741145565>What the fuck is it?kino
>>741145903>block has some stupid monster on it instead of just being differently coloredwow
hmmm...
AINT NO POINT TO IT MANG U JUS PUSH BLOCKS AN SHIT
>>741145449Even if the game turns out to be good, I think Blow still deserves to go bankrupt for spending so much money on a custom engine and a shitlang that no one will use instead of just making this in Unity or whatever.
>>741146456Everyone is going to use jai when it releases. There's just nothing else like it out there.>t. in the beta
>>741146671>There's just nothing else like it out there.CTFE and AST macros aren't new. Use more languages.
The first trailer was shit but the second one (with Blow's VO) did a much better job making the game look cool. I am interested.
>>741146671No one except Blow's cocksuckers will. Most of game engine programming will still be done in C++, other industries that are more security conscious will continue moving to Rust.>>t. in the beta>muh secret Jai beta clubA Jai release (compiler and documentation) got leaked a while back and literally nobody gave a shit.
>>741146456>released his language just when RPGM diedIt's gonna be the next big thing
>>741146456Jai will succeed. The industry wants it. Better faster cheaper.
I got a cellphone, but it don't ever ring (Nah)Ain't never gave a fuck about anything (Nah)Meet me in the trees, no one hears you scream (Nah)Can't ever ever ever ever go to sleep (No, no)I just be flexin' in my Truey jeans (Flex, flex, flex)I just be rockin' in my rocker jeans (My rock 'n' roll, ah)
>>741146456>man makes his own fucking programming language to code his own fucking custom engine rather than using an off the shelf solution>I HOPE HE GOES BANKRUPTI thought you guys liked SOVL?
>>741147298the common /v/ nigger has no idea what true soul is
>>741145449>>741145565>>741145608I like Sokobans. Tell me more
>>741147298nocoders always insinuate that if you make your own language, you NEED to use it to make some amazing new tech that's never been done before. His overworld in Unity would probably explode computers.
Has he said when he plans to release the final game?
I'll post a little anecdote to highlight Blow's incompetence with regards to programming language design. In C you have memcpy() and memmove(). They do the same thing, except that using memcpy() on overlapping memory is undefined behavior, so you can end up with software that works fine for years until a libc implementation gets new optimizations and suddenly shit breaks. Rust designers knew about this problem and they decided to make the interface less likely to be misused by calling the memmove() equivalent copy() and the memcpy() equivalent copy_nonoverlapping().What Blow did instead is he put memcpy() in Jai and when someone on stream asked him if his memcpy() can be used for overlapping memory he said that he doesn't remember and that it doesn't matter anyway. Just fucking lmao
>>741147763current-ish plan is this yearBut more than likely it's getting pushed back to Q1/Q2 next year, knowing blow
>>741145565>Looks like sokoban.
>>741145957The monster is a separate puzzle element.
>>741147402https://youtu.be/T0OBDqGDMYU
>>741145449>sokobanNah.I know jblow is probably disappointed that people didn't like his original take on puzzles in the witness but I doubt fleeing back to basic bitch puzzle style will be any good either.
>>741147873Probably not. The voiceover recording has started 5 days go, and it's supposed to cover the whole demo, so I expect a September-October release.
>>741148710>people didn't like his original take on puzzles in the witnessThe Witness and Braid sales fueled his endeavors for almost a decade.
>>741146456>shitlang that no one will useAll of the game dev codefags are already obsessed with it and it's only in betaIt will become standard for indie self made engines, and in a decade I wouldn't be surprised if some larger teams moved to it.
>>741148680It looks good, but I'm worried the game might overwhelm the player when everything starts to collide. JBlow himself says in the trailer that the puzzles aren't too complicated, but we'll see...
>>741148991>All of the game dev codefags are already obsessed with itName five.
>>741145449>buncha ugly niggersnice promotional image, I'll pass
>>741147836Just don't overlap, not that hard. Rust is written for retards.
>>741145449More like Odor of the Stinking Saar
witness and braid are both kino
>>741146225Dang ol pushin blocks dang ol puzzles man
My conspiracy theory is that Blow is going to price this game at $100USD and the demo is a way to show how much value actually comes with the game. If the demo 40 hours long and is only 10 percent of the game, it's an easy argument to price the full game well above anything else.Marketing basically runs itself after>THIS GAME COSTS MORE THAN GTA6!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>741150812Most people won't even pay $20 for a sokoban
>>741150812This game already exists. It's a remake of an existing game called heroes of sokobanIt's going to sell VERY poorly
>>741150882A $20 sokoban? No probably not.A $100 JBlow game? If the demo is really good, I'd buy it.
>>741150882I paid $12 for Void Stranger. $20 isn't out of the question if the production values are high.
>>741150576I happen to be watching KotH right now.
>>741150812Not a chance, lmao. It'll be 40 dollar, most likely.>>741151020Heroes of Sokoban (1-3) is 1 quarter of this game. There are also Mirror Isles, Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, and Promesst (1, 2, and the never released 3).
>>741149109mejackie chan (x4)
>>741151596Sure. Other than the fact that all of the ideas and abilities of the characters were stolen too. Anyway, 11 years for this is nuts.
>>741150812As retarded and delusional as blow is, no fucking way.
>>741151816>stolenEvery original dev (all 3 of them) gave the permission. And then 1 of them went to complain on Bluesky abut how much of a chud Blow is after the game's official announcement last TGA.
ONE FUCKING HOUR
>>741146973>Rust>Securtity
>>741152136Go ask a chatbot if you don't know what a word means.
I'm gonna get filtered
>>741145449>10 years in development>1500 puzzles>handmade art for each levelIt's a commendable effort but the game will feel extremely dry and vanilla next to the modern sokoban which is characterized by all kinds of meta gimmicks, even the shitty pixel retro graphic ones are more inventive
>>741152826Only 1500 puzzles? Void Stranger had 600 and it was in development for like three years
just overheard coworkers talking about the demo the hype is crazy
>>741152990t. Thekla employee
>>741151960Cool he got permission to copy the game. That doesn't change what I said. I've watched some Jon streams and he does everything so incredibly slowly. And that is with copying puzzles and ideas. 11 years
>>741146671I may use Jai for its metaprogramming capabilities. I currently use nim for that, it's a really great feature to have to create tools. I honestly hate how slow Nim compiles which causes issues with the tooling (autocomplete breaks constantly) and I don't see they're going to fix Nim in the near future, if they do it's going to take years.
>>741146973No one is making serious game engines in rust, nigger.
>>741146671Won't you still have to build your own engine just using JAI language?Or is Blow considering releasing his actual engine that he used for Sinking Star?
>>741153459Both the language and the engine will be made open source.
>>741153532I'll have to look into this then, thanks. I'm looking for an open source alternative to Godot but don't necessarily want to build the engine myself on the first game attempt.
i'm gonna be honest, the screenshots aren't blowing me away. the gameplay is just push block for 500 hours.still going to give the demo a try but even as a jb fanboy, this game's probably going to be MID as heckwhich wouldn't have mattered if he didn't spend almost 30 million on it
>>741154068I expect some decent metapuzzles at least
soon
Reminder JoBlow spent 30 million dollars on this project
>>741154670wish i could see a breakdown of the costs. i imagine most of it was burned on paying six figure salaries in SF and employees sitting on their ass while JB does all the work himself because no one is able to take initiative lest they do something less than perfect in his eyes.
>4.3gb downloadlet's go boys
there has literally never been a good sokoban game. it's a genre incapable of being enjoyablebaba is you is interesting, but still bad in the end because you have to play sokoban to interact with the interesting parts of the game
>>741155168filtered
>>741145449just a reminder for anyone thinking about checking this out that Johnathan Blow is sexist and MAGAhttps://www.resetera.com/threads/jonathan-blow-the-witness-braid-thinks-women-are-biologically-less-interested-in-tech-than-men.11742/https://www.thegamer.com/jonathan-blow-controversial-politics/
>>741154670lmao that has to be his alt account
https://www.twitch.tv/j_blowJonny B is streaming his own game right now, btw.
>>741155238JUST BOUGHTED 10 COPIES OF THE GAME
>>741155238Don't care, still pirating your game mr blowjob
>>741145565well void stranger was just sokoban but that game was greatso maybe this game will be good too
>>741153459Not necessarily, you can integrate it to existing engines as an scripting layer. It's difficult to do it right tho, most language integrations suck dick.
>>741155238>Jonathan Blow (The Witness, Braid) thinks women are biologically less interested in tech than men what a fucking concept. its almost like this is immediately obvious to everyone with a pulsewhy are we not allowed to say this obvious fact out loud?
>>741155367wish he gave us an hour or two to play on our own first...
it's out, time to gamei remember playing the witness after coming back from my first part time job 10 years ago
>>741154670Why would a smart person work in the benefit of parasites?
>>741145449I know /v despise Jonathan Blow, and it's has some reason for it, but his trailer made it very interesting. Will buy in on the Switch 2.
>>741155732>slur in the main menubased blow breaking new ground
>>741153907It won't be open source for a very long time.
actual photo of me waiting for OotSS
oh wow i thought the map is an overworld with small teleportable domains but it's actually one giant thing
>>741156075>the witness (forma de sokoban)Sounds kino, can't wait to be released from my wagie cage
The teleporting wizard is cool so far
>>741147403You don't really know how engines work so stfu. The language has nothing to do with how big the world can be. You can still do it in Unity, you just need to be smart about it. For example overworld can be composed of instanced static meshes while only the playable area is composed of game objects, which I assume it's one of the biggest optimizations John is using. You can't do this shit in vanilla godot tho, that engine fucking sucks.
>>741145449Will it feel like a Jai game?
Based on the demo, this game is NOT coming out this year
>>741157416Jon said it'd be this year for sure on his stream and he's NEVER liedAlso this demo was made to be shown to press/ industry people at The Game Awards last year so it's already over half a year out of date
i bored already
not gonna lie i thought i would not be hooked based on jon's streams but the mechanics are really fun, really makes you think
as expected the story seems to be some pretentious garbaggio that will be a metaphore about gay sex or whatever
>only 1k viewers on twitchits over... jonbros.. we will have to go into another 1 million dollarydoos debt
>thief girl can't help but steal shit>her mechanic is pulling everything along whether you like it or notoh wow they had to say it out loud, i'm dumb
Only took an hour to get to a puzzle I'm too dumb for, it's over
>>741146456this, he should have just used unreal or unity like everyone else
>brown woman on the grid artHow woke is this shit?
Runs like shit on a GTX 1070Can barely hit 60 fps at 720pAnd this is made by the guy whose brand is shitting on modern software for being shit and slow.
>>741159041+ the input delay is considerable. Whose fucking idea was it to have 0.67 second ease in when animating a character stepping from one tile to the next? This is not good gamefeel
>>741159041Same, this is running really poorly sometimes, and I have a 3090. For all his talk about optimization he can't back it up
>>741148991>All of the game dev codefags are already obsessedLiterally nobody outside of Muratori and ThePrimeagen, neither who have made a single real game, cares about it. Jai, Zig and Odin are all going nowhere.
>>741159041Scared of a little volumetrics, huh kid?
>>741159041WORKS fine on my gnu+linux system in 4k
>>741159148The excuse he gave on stream was that the "artists like soft shadows a lot"Glad his fucking 5 million dollar art team can run it on their work machines
>>741159269There's 0 reason for this game to run poorly when solving puzzles, just unload the overworld John!
>Need a Crysis tier pc to play a sokobanLOL
>duplication shit and simultaneous movement less than 10 puzzles injesus fucking christ I'll get so filtered
Works fine on my 5080. Git gud.
These dragons are very cute
>>741160141The game runs, there's just no excuse for it to feel this floaty and slow. You can tell it is struggling
>>741156821>which I assume it's one of the biggest optimizations John is usingWhy are you actually assuming that?
>>741145449The creating clones of yourself mechanic in the mirror isles is kino.
>go west>mine some gems>map starts loopingoh god oh fuck
The puzzles seem decent but the performance is absolutely atrocious for what it is. There are more complicated games written entirely in dynamically typed shit langs that have better performance.
>>741152395How is Rust secure it's a meme language.
>>741160569It feels like the developer build or something, hard to explain
is this where all the resetera enjoyers pretend like it has terrible performance
>>741154670>I don't fucking know [people]Social links is how you advance in the world, just like 10 000 years ago.
>>741159254Yeah I'm on Linux too and it works without a hitch, 4k 60. I have a 4070ti. Do people just have worse graphics cards or is it just like a Windows thing (I will say the latter for the funny)
I have a 3070 and it's working flawlessly in 4k Quality setting. I don't know what shit rigs some people in this thread have for it to be struggling desu
>>741160402Because it makes sense, he's not inventing any new optimization technique or something and he's clearly not using voxels in the game.
>>741145957>he doesn't know it's 3D
>>741161163Obviously people are surprised that a current gen rig is a requirement to play a casual block pushing game, especially when the same games it was based on are playable in browser on any $7 laptop. Doubly ironic coming from the eternal software quality complainer jblow
wtf
>>741146456>>741154670He won't "go broke" because his daddy is rich and Blow was always a trust fund baby. Hell, he was even loosely involved within the same circles as "specimen" such as Fish and Quinn.
>>741155602VS was a lololike, though. Only some of the EX stages ever felt even vaguely like sokoban.
I'm sorry I'm going to destroy this game forever but>stinking sar
>>741162281nah
>>741145449More like Order of the Sinking Ship LMAOThose black outlines are ugly, especially when the rest of the backgrounds don't have them. Must be some stupid inclusivity shit from the UI designers; oh no, retards couldn't understand what they're looking at unless we outline it. Lowest common denominator inclusivity is a division by zero.
>>741162302you will never fit in
>>741162302someone already made that joke but better>Odor of the Stinking Saar
It's genuinely ludokinoHe won
Bee-lined it to the "hard" area and it took a while to figure out but it wasn't that bad. Hardest part was just figuring out the rules, so kind of like The Witness. Not sure how to feel about the game. It's alright, I guess. I'll try out the other areas later. There are other puzzle game demos that also just released this week that I liked more like Outpour and DITTORI.
man I really hate the voice actors in this gameand voice actors in generalwhy can't they sound like normal human beings?
>>741145565Its an open world sokoban where each room is a puzzle and it has different puzzle types, the those puzzles combine with other puzzles to make larger puzzles. Its made for an specific type of autism aka me
>Adventure party area is just fine, whatever, typical sokoban>Do the gem area next>Unlock THAT>Try it on the beamsHOYL FUCKIN SHIT BROS IT'S KINO
>>741163712west side is fucking crazy
>crossroads is a cute mini version of the main map
>>741147298>>741147403>>741156821>>741161198Guys... it's a push moving blocks game. He didn't need to make his own engine for this. This is a severe misallocation of resources and time.
>>741163549I expected the voices to be waay more annoying based on the trailer but now I'm more indifferent to them
>>741147836>He's incompetent because of some extremely trivial detail that doesn't matterYou're going to have to do better than that
>JBlow of all people didn't use scancodes for keyboard input...
>>741148991>All of the game dev codefags are already obsessed with itNo they aren'tObjectively there's nothing really amazing about it
>>741155737Just change "biologically" into "culturally" and you're golden. Out of 25 people in a programming class in uni there were only 2 girls. And only 1 girl actually graduated.
>>741164470I remember in my software engineering college there was some kinda event and on the facebook page promoting it, people complaing that it's mostly dudes "WHY AREN'T YOU DOING MORE TO REACH OUT TO GIRLS???"As if it's up to the fucking college to make school kids interested in tech
I don't know jon, having the characters monologue every other room is a little grating. And audio logs so long you have to wait for the first one to be done before you start the second also seems like an oversight.
>>741165090>audio log plays>continue walking>next story dialogue cuts off the audio logWhy is this in every game?
>>741164470how do you know women are not biologically wired to be less interested in technical engineering work? are you aware we are not robots and are in fact biological creatures? do you not believe that we went through hundreds of millions of years of evolution to get here?why is it unacceptable that a person's choices could possibly be determined by factors beyond their control?
>18/20 gemsfucking hell, solving this puzzle is indistinguishable from breaking it
>>741165434NTA but people making paleoanthropological statements about how our hunter-gatherer days influence us are mostly making shit up that sounds plausible
entire puzzles around not being able to just toggle dragging for the thief is fucking stupid.why are puzzle devs so obsessed with `tedium == fun`
>>741165445Yeah. The design of the area is guided but still somewhat chaotic. Feels like you could soft lock yourself if you aren't careful and have to restart everything.
>the first time jon blow writes actual dialogdamn
>>741161723ngmi
>>741156000
>>741165434Meh. Biology does not exist in a vacuum. Culture overwrites biology all the time. Biologically you're supposed to be on the trees, yet you live in a stone box. What's next, you gonna say there's a biological reason why there are so many girls in medical universities?
>>741157510>out of datewhat?
>>741165553>>741165763no answer as to how you are so unreasonably confident that women could not possibly be biologically influenced to maybe be slightly less interested in engineering than men are.
>>741159041LMAOOOOO 1070 should be able to run his game fine, now I know for sure he's an ass clown with his head up his butt what a joke programmer
So wait, are the puzzles all pushing blocks? I cant imagine that much variation to make 1000 block puzzles.
>>741165763There is actually, all the girls even remotely interested in science go into biology because women are only good at memorizing shit by rote and biology leads to medicine
>And the levels are FUN. They're not a headache, they're not hard just to be hard. Every puzzle has something new and interesting to show you.How accurately does this sentiment hold up so far?
>>741165864ive been playing braid as well and this is definitely way more enjoyable so for puzzles are right on the line they need to be of being not too easy and not too hard
these environments feel way too detailed for how quick some puzzles are
>>741163712>>741163965Yeah I've finished The Promise area now and it's 100% certified kinoThat was fucking incredible
>>741165835You have different characters which do different things.one is pushingone can push 2 at a timeone only dragsone swaps places with things he's facing
>>741162000If all of them are trust fund babies it really explains the art they made.
>>741165693>Feels like you could soft lock yourself Yeah, you can. Ask me how I know. After I spent 20 minutes trying to salvage the mess I created by trying to cheese with gems conga lines, I just restarted and beat everything the "intended" way in 2 minutes.
>>741165763I dont know why I'm bothering responding because its pretty clear you are just jumping through mental gymnastics to justify the idea that you are a female with male biology. But>What's next, you gonna say there's a biological reason why there are so many girls in medical universities?Yes. Women are biologically more predisposed to taking on caretaker roles than men. Its the same idea as the tech one.
>>741165830DNA obviously gives us inclinations, but as I said, we don't life in a vacuum free from non-DNA influences. What you believe is DNA might be just a fucking climate or some shit.(And if you believe that DNA hardwires you specifically against IT tech, that fucking retarded, there's no concept of "IT" in DNA, and human brains are specifically designed to general learning, this includes programming)
>>741166307>caretakerThat's... an idealized description of medicine. It is full of blood and guts. You have to be not squeamish to graduate.
Almost died from cringe. Not even joking.I was a stroke so i couldn't react fast enough to screenshot the "gabienth" line. This is why you need to beat nerds once in a while.
So? What do you guys think of the demo?>>741155737>why are we not allowed to say this obvious fact out loud?Because any acknowledgment of biological differences legitimizes negative stereotypes about jews and blacks, and this is strictly prohibited under the post-World War II order.
>>741166370so basically you have no evidence that women are not influenced biologically away from technical engineering work.
>>741166182Fish specifically stole Fez from the person who actually programmed the game, then waited months and months to line up a bunch of (((awards))) for 'his' indie title.
>>741166603Don't worry. I got it.
Why is he obsessed with this ugly mystery meat woman now? This cover easily slashes 50% of the audience.
The trailer reminded me more of Adventures of Lolo| than any Sokoban variation...
>>741166603>>741166776jblow needs to hire a zoomer to keep his unc moments in check

>>741166943There are these displays with esoteric bullshit and thing that are obvious clues to something in the overworld so there probably are. Meta puzzles are so ubiquitous in puzzle games nowadays that I'd be surprised if the game doesn't have any.

art looks cool but I fucking hate the audio log-driven dialogue, funnier still when your own guy goes I SENSE A GOLD SKULLTULA NEARBY and interrupts itthe witness also had the shitty audio logs but it's a much slower and contemplative game so it wasn't as obnoxious

>>741165864It's fine for a simple puzzle games, the game barely uses synergistic mechanics so the puzzles can't be too complicated by design.

Any cooperative sokoban games you can recommend?
>>741154670>using his talents for video games instead of actively making the world worse by helping technocratic big tech faggots achieve neo-feudalismBASED Jonny boy

what exactly is the gameplay here? flash game tier box pushing?
>>741145686>That pretentious cunt is still going?why would he stop? he likes the attention.
>>741168847"Box-pushing" is called "Sokoban". And it's not Flash-tier, it's "VisualBasic homework" tier.
>>741165864He ain't lying, this shit is terrific so farI'm coining a new phrase:>The blow don't suckYou can take that to the bank
>quoting Paradise Lost's invocation of the MuseI am in awe of this man's level of pretensiousness. It's incredible.
when does the full game release I don't need to play a demo I'll play anything this guy makes after the masterpiece that is The Witness
>>741151020Isles of Sea and Sky? Kinoest puzzle game i ever played thoughbeit
>>741169687I enjoyed The Witness but I quit this game after 5 mins
i get you can't take puzzle games that seriously because they're ultimately just front-ends to solve puzzles. But having to drag dragons around is pretty silly for a game taking itself seriously.
>>741167450Yeah. And not only that, the game is massively downgraded too.I remember watching a video where blow was making fun of the viewer on stream when he asked about block trails giving away the solution to the puzzle. He pretensions cunt was like "lol, stupid pleb, imagine not having dynamic block trails".Full game? Completely removed on max settings. Thanks, shitch 2.
>Niche Action - F
>>741169810No, but that game is good. Heroes of sokoban is a free sokoban game and that is where the first levels and mechanics come from for this game and then mirror isles also is another one. Jon just took those to create basically half off the game, then also added other things.
please help me
>>741169945I don't get your critique. The tone of the game already has lots of humor. It isn't particularly serious.

it blows
>>741170868What level is that? I went to the Mirror Islands first and it could not be more obvious with the grass there.
mirror area is impossible after a certain point. brain broken
Is this shit broken? It's the only puzzle in the game I've failed to solve.>>741158485Same.
>>741171089Set up the 3 of them kill each other in one move
I think its retarded for a puzzle game to release a demo, beginning of a puzzle game is always the best part before puzzles start to insist upon themselves
>>741158485>>741171089this one also took me a while but it was really not complicated
>>741170913>>741171013It seems like they are very light now and not on all surfaces. The stone didn't get scratched, but there is something on the grass. The effect is different though. At some point in the development the dust/scratches appeared even at stone floor too.
>>741171127Yeah, I know that mechanic. But I don't know how to get there. If it's actually solvable, then don't tell me how. I'll get it first or second try tomorrow, as per usual.
>>741171186 push the guy on the right all the directly down to the bottom, then push him from the right with the other stone to free the stone so you can use it again

>>741165826If you look closely, you will realize that Jonny Boy made the Wizard white. The Wizard has been whitewashed.
>>741165864Finished in 4 hours. Would have taken longer if I haven't played the originals and already knew all the rules and remembered some of the solutions. I loved the massive mirror one.

How would you rate each game? For me it'sHeroes>>>Promised>Mirror isles
>>741164297He didn't, but I respect the fact he did and released it.
I went east at first, it was braindead easy. Went west and had some decent fun, although I was completely stumped by the last underground gem, wound up pushing the 2 step teleporter around with gems so I could go through the wall into the final room.If the whole game was like the western area, I might've been more interested. The mirror shit put me off, why would I waste time on garbage one room puzzles?
I would play the demo, but that would make me lose the steam playtime hours when the full release comes out, completely negating a portion of my life from having ever happened.
>>741164297Misallocated from what? What are you even complaining about?

>>741173510>>ooh you can make a total fucking mess out of the level now that you're hunting for the remaining gemsAnd if you reset, you go back to when you picked up the tool. >>741173298> Shame it runs like such dogshit for a fucking indie game.and pc specs are?
I played Braid (OG and remaster) and The Witness and this just further cemented to me that Jon doesn't have a single artistic bone in his body. He makes his games look painterly and uses orchestral music and forces in a bunch of terrible fluffy prose because that's what art is to his autistic simpleton mind. It's like an alien lifeform having art explained to it as "things in a museum" and then trying to replicate it without understanding it.The game runs like shit on 'eck and smooth wind-up movement animations for a grid-based puzzle game is utterly retarded and makes the game feel extremely janky and awkward to play.
This game sucks compared to The Witness, and it's not nearly as good as other modern Sokoban games. Just feels like a clusterfuck of design. It will probably be way more interesting when the levels get height and aren't just flat but not feeling it.
Can't believe how unoptimized this piece of shit is when the gameplay mechanics are that simple. Not impressed as someone who's enjoyed games like tunic, obra dinn or void stranger
>>741167234steam niggers are going to lap it up
Jblow really needs to just write a fantasy novel. The constant yapping combined with all the audio logs just makes me want to mute everything.

>blow says demo is 40-50 hours>look inside>its closer to 4well on one hand 4 hours isnt bad but on the other I think the main game is going to be 40 hours and not 400. i guess blow assumed his audience was retarded or something
>>741175012I can't believe how long some of the yapping is in the tutorial levels, I think I had two characters talking over each other on top of an audio recording at one point. I understand filling the space in some of the harder levels, but the pacing at the beginning is way off.
>>741175074I solved it quickly because I remembered the original.

>demo phase 2For what purpose? The demo already has more than too much content. Also this game destroys my GPU and basically ignores my undervolt for some reason. It runs full power and uses more watts than even a game will full path tracing. I really need to repaste my GPU... this game makes it run at 70C when my GPU used to never even hit 60C. It runs at 4k 120 but damn it pushes the GPU.
>>741180753What frames are you getting? It’s a damn sokobon game, should be capped to 60.

Why is my CPU so hot playing this? Don't tell me it's running at like 300fps. Don't see an option to cap it
I really hate the character switching mechanic in puzzle games... the quick switch with the right stick is ass and barely works. There's got to be a better way. Even a radial menu would be better.
>You can run and solve long puzzles in secondsThank god, I hate when it takes longer to solve a puzzle then to think of the solution. John Blow is a genius. GOAT incoming.
>>741181335this is my cpu playing on 4k
The little quips like ("Try it now!") on the boards annoy me. You can just imagine Blow stroking himself for integrating features that have been standard in puzzle games for a decade.

I like it. I love sokobans and puzzle games and this one looks like it's gonna be juicySo far though haven't gotten stuck even once. Which makes me worry. I think the show of a great puzzle game is staring at one puzzle for hours and then feeling like a genuis when you crack itI haven't completed the demo yet though
>>741146456So much this. I find some of his opinions make me feel uncomfortable, and the fact that he's actually created things is annoying to me. Especially The Witness, which filtered me. So it would be nice to see him fail.

>>741191930It's a bit all over the place, you're kinda just getting bits and pieces of the lore and you're piecing it together over time.kinda like a PUZZLE
Yes yes but how does it compare to SSR.
Only semi-related but I was thinking about puzzle game design earlier, and I think that meta-puzzles are overrated. Despite feeling very cool to solve, they are often exponentially monotonous to execute compared to standard self-contained puzzles and should be secondary to the main course.
