Even if the game turns out to be good, I think Blow still deserves to go bankrupt for spending so much money on a custom engine and a shitlang that no one will use instead of just making this in Unity or whatever.

The first trailer was shit but the second one (with Blow's VO) did a much better job making the game look cool. I am interested.

No one except Blow's cocksuckers will. Most of game engine programming will still be done in C++, other industries that are more security conscious will continue moving to Rust.

nocoders always insinuate that if you make your own language, you NEED to use it to make some amazing new tech that's never been done before.
His overworld in Unity would probably explode computers.
>>
Has he said when he plans to release the final game?
>>
I'll post a little anecdote to highlight Blow's incompetence with regards to programming language design.
In C you have memcpy() and memmove(). They do the same thing, except that using memcpy() on overlapping memory is undefined behavior, so you can end up with software that works fine for years until a libc implementation gets new optimizations and suddenly shit breaks.
Rust designers knew about this problem and they decided to make the interface less likely to be misused by calling the memmove() equivalent copy() and the memcpy() equivalent copy_nonoverlapping().
What Blow did instead is he put memcpy() in Jai and when someone on stream asked him if his memcpy() can be used for overlapping memory he said that he doesn't remember and that it doesn't matter anyway. Just fucking lmao
>>
>>741147763

I know jblow is probably disappointed that people didn't like his original take on puzzles in the witness but I doubt fleeing back to basic bitch puzzle style will be any good either.

Probably not. The voiceover recording has started 5 days go, and it's supposed to cover the whole demo, so I expect a September-October release.

The Witness and Braid sales fueled his endeavors for almost a decade.

All of the game dev codefags are already obsessed with it and it's only in beta
It will become standard for indie self made engines, and in a decade I wouldn't be surprised if some larger teams moved to it.
>>
>>741148680
It looks good, but I'm worried the game might overwhelm the player when everything starts to collide. JBlow himself says in the trailer that the puzzles aren't too complicated, but we'll see...

My conspiracy theory is that Blow is going to price this game at $100USD and the demo is a way to show how much value actually comes with the game. If the demo 40 hours long and is only 10 percent of the game, it's an easy argument to price the full game well above anything else.
Marketing basically runs itself after
>THIS GAME COSTS MORE THAN GTA6!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>
>>741150812
Most people won't even pay $20 for a sokoban
>>
>>741150812
This game already exists. It's a remake of an existing game called heroes of sokoban
It's going to sell VERY poorly
>>
>>741150882
A $20 sokoban? No probably not.
A $100 JBlow game? If the demo is really good, I'd buy it.
>>
>>741150882
I paid $12 for Void Stranger. $20 isn't out of the question if the production values are high.

It's a commendable effort but the game will feel extremely dry and vanilla next to the modern sokoban which is characterized by all kinds of meta gimmicks, even the shitty pixel retro graphic ones are more inventive

>>
>>741146671
I may use Jai for its metaprogramming capabilities. I currently use nim for that, it's a really great feature to have to create tools. I honestly hate how slow Nim compiles which causes issues with the tooling (autocomplete breaks constantly) and I don't see they're going to fix Nim in the near future, if they do it's going to take years.
>>
>>741146973
No one is making serious game engines in rust, nigger.
>>
>>741146671
Won't you still have to build your own engine just using JAI language?
Or is Blow considering releasing his actual engine that he used for Sinking Star?
>>
>>741153459
Both the language and the engine will be made open source.
>>
>>741153532
I'll have to look into this then, thanks. I'm looking for an open source alternative to Godot but don't necessarily want to build the engine myself on the first game attempt.

You don't really know how engines work so stfu. The language has nothing to do with how big the world can be. You can still do it in Unity, you just need to be smart about it. For example overworld can be composed of instanced static meshes while only the playable area is composed of game objects, which I assume it's one of the biggest optimizations John is using.

You can't do this shit in vanilla godot tho, that engine fucking sucks.

I dont know why I'm bothering responding because its pretty clear you are just jumping through mental gymnastics to justify the idea that you are a female with male biology.

But
>What's next, you gonna say there's a biological reason why there are so many girls in medical universities?
Yes. Women are biologically more predisposed to taking on caretaker roles than men. Its the same idea as the tech one.

DNA obviously gives us inclinations, but as I said, we don't life in a vacuum free from non-DNA influences. What you believe is DNA might be just a fucking climate or some shit.

I played Braid (OG and remaster) and The Witness and this just further cemented to me that Jon doesn't have a single artistic bone in his body. He makes his games look painterly and uses orchestral music and forces in a bunch of terrible fluffy prose because that's what art is to his autistic simpleton mind. It's like an alien lifeform having art explained to it as "things in a museum" and then trying to replicate it without understanding it.

The game runs like shit on 'eck and smooth wind-up movement animations for a grid-based puzzle game is utterly retarded and makes the game feel extremely janky and awkward to play.

This game sucks compared to The Witness, and it's not nearly as good as other modern Sokoban games. Just feels like a clusterfuck of design. It will probably be way more interesting when the levels get height and aren't just flat but not feeling it.

Fuck off and make this thread again when it's actually out. I only install and pirate a game once, and it's not going to be for some early access or stripped shit. Do not ever disrespect me like this again, you twerp.
>>
Why is my CPU so hot playing this? Don't tell me it's running at like 300fps. Don't see an option to cap it
>>
I really hate the character switching mechanic in puzzle games... the quick switch with the right stick is ass and barely works. There's got to be a better way. Even a radial menu would be better.
>>
>You can run and solve long puzzles in seconds
Thank god, I hate when it takes longer to solve a puzzle then to think of the solution.
John Blow is a genius. GOAT incoming.

The little quips like ("Try it now!") on the boards annoy me. You can just imagine Blow stroking himself for integrating features that have been standard in puzzle games for a decade.
>>
>>741183265
Did you try it now though, that part was actually good
>>
>>741183265
I think it's very cute but that's just me~
>>
>>741183265
>he didn't try it
>>
gem cave was good because it didn't have voice acting
>>
>>741183580
Yes I tried it... who cares. Level resets can be undone in like 95% of these types of games
>>
>The story is another meta narrative like The Witness.
Again? Cmon Blow you can do better than that
>>
>>741183664
no he can't
>>
I really wish the game wouldn't flash bang you after every puzzle. Can I leave that as feed back somewhere? I DONT want a bright white screen every single time I solve a piss easy puzzle

Bullshit

I'll stick with the oldies

adjust your monitor brightness?

I think the protagonist is cute as fuck and I want to have have children with her - at least seven.
I'll even play this puzzle game for her.

That's like calling a Brahms symphony just alphorn notes. The burn doesn't land like you imagine it does.
>>
>>741151816
>Anyway, 11 years for this is nuts.
Not really, but keep repeating that if it makes you feel better.
What is it about Blow that causes internet midwits to seethe so predictably?
>>
hey what happened to the other faggot from the indie game movie? the one with the fez

>all the characters talk like redditors and are either bara bait or le quirky brown thief
>cute Priestess character with a shepherd's staff shows up radiating pure aura
>doesn't talk and is already the coolest character so far
Already my favourite character by 3 miles. Love the Priestess. The fact her look is Jesus mixed with a Japanese shrine maiden is cool

Is there any fan art of her?

He is extremely pretentious.
>>
>>741186183
it's mind boggling how much effort goes into making a game and then developers have to write a dialog and it is the most soulless slop, they spend solid amount of budget to hire voice actors and hand them dogshit script that just goes through the motion at best and actively annoying at worst, at that point just save your money and make them all mute
>>
>>741186183
I suspect she has a penis. Don't ask why it's just a hunch
>>
Okay I just beat hauling heroes and started Mirror Isle. Don't like how much tutorial/easy levels you get if they're gonna do a new gimmick every section

I'm not a moron, I don't want to difficulty to go back DOWN after I've progressed

I haven't finished it but I don't believe that level is in the demo.

I like it. I love sokobans and puzzle games and this one looks like it's gonna be juicy

So far though haven't gotten stuck even once. Which makes me worry. I think the show of a great puzzle game is staring at one puzzle for hours and then feeling like a genuis when you crack it

I haven't completed the demo yet though
>>
>>741146456
So much this. I find some of his opinions make me feel uncomfortable, and the fact that he's actually created things is annoying to me. Especially The Witness, which filtered me. So it would be nice to see him fail.

Ugh. I'm going dancing. That's right, chud. I dance.
>>
I can't follow the plot at fucking all.
Did I mess up by going north first? Every dialogue seems so disjointed.
>>
>>741180753
>For what purpose?
They started recording voice lines on Wednesday. Even this demo wasn't full voiced, The Promise was AI.
>>
>>741181937
There actually was a radial menu shown on his dev streams. Is it not in the game?
>>
>>741191930
Did you really do 3 levels and INSTANTLY go “aahhh I don’t get it help me 4chan”?

It’s pretty damn obvious what the story is in hauling heroes after the 3 of them reunite. It’s a pretty basic plot just medias res
>>
>>741191930
It's a bit all over the place, you're kinda just getting bits and pieces of the lore and you're piecing it together over time.
kinda like a PUZZLE
>>
Yes yes but how does it compare to SSR.

Only semi-related but I was thinking about puzzle game design earlier, and I think that meta-puzzles are overrated. Despite feeling very cool to solve, they are often exponentially monotonous to execute compared to standard self-contained puzzles and should be secondary to the main course.
>>
>>741189454
It's not, and won't be. Those are skipping stones, they were omitted.
>>
>>741190170
>So far though haven't gotten stuck even once. Which makes me worry.
I got stuck on a few puzzles in each of the originals. But my worst cases of being stuck were in Skipping Stones.
