Steam frame is coming within a couple days. Price predictions?

Too much to be cheap, too low to be good.

the price won't be high enough to suggest good quality components making it worthwhile as an actual upgrade-sidegrade

as much as these niggers will buy anything at any price they also hate everything nomatter what too
>>

but we already know what the build quality is like, it's well documented. It's also pretty easy to self-repair like the 'eck

Probably as much as the video card I need to buy for it to actually be an upgrade from my Quest 2.

Only people who still use VR headsets in the year 2026 (6 years after the COVID pandemic) are literally gays and furries and gay furries in VRChat
Normies would never put on a stupid hat with monitors just to play vidya
No one would buy this

$2k dollars and I'm buying one instantly so I can play NES games on a virtual big screen

Can't they just use DDR4 RAM? Would it really be so bad?

Just get a Quest 3 if you wanna play VR.
The frame will be at least twice as much.

The only reason it hasn't achieved similar penetration akin to worse memes like early LCDs and 16:9 is the lack of competent companies backing it and sabotaging the competition.
HMDs will always be kind of cool, consumer versions are commercially viable, there is genuine malfeasance at play.

$999 base, $1200 or 1300 for the higher model, probably like $1500 for the enthusiast kit.

Well, in 2019 the Index was $1000. So that's $1308 today. The frame is going to be $1307.99 plus tip plus tax plus preorder fee plus services. See? Less than the index! :^)

Such a shame that after a long fucking time Valve does something actually cool but gets raped by the circumstances. I'm going to buy one unless the price is truly unreasonable.

>buy a Quest 3
Anything made by Meta spies on your PC like you have no fucking idea. Go install Meta's software (the stuff required to run your headset), turn on Wireshark, and watch how much data it sends back to Zuck's HQ, even when the headset isn't in use.

anyway, mobo +$100, psu +$100, case +$100, 16gb DDR4 +$100, 512gb nvme +$100

that's $900, so you are saving $150 by getting an old CPU with DDR4. yes you could save more if you buy shittier components but then why not just buy used, poorfag

I think $800-900 was going to be the price before the cost increases. It was always going to be more expensive than the Steam Machine, and the target price was under the original Index's $1000. This shit is going to be like $1300 - $1600.

The problem is that at this price, Steam Frame isn't going to be the shot in the arm VR needed. Studios are already dropping like flies because Zucc's attention span ran out.
>>
>>741641009
You can buy a gaming laptop with the same specs for cheaper if you wait for sales like black friday. The Rog Ally X is cheaper despite being only a little weaker.

This is more Valve being greedy and their inexperience with supply chains than tariffs, which are managed much better by other corpos.

>>741642370
Anon, I think it would be a miracle for it to be near the NOW base model Deck. I think the engineering that went into creating the Frame, plus the controllers having to be bundled together, means the Frame would hit the $1k mark.

That being said, I am absolutely astounded that the Machine is as cheap as it is. That was a real fucking curveball. So I'm predicting either $850 or $900 for base model Frame, going up to $1K for adding on whatever the "enthusiast kit" ends up being.
>>
what does this even do is the cube part of the frame too ?
>>
>>741645936
It's just a tiny PC that doesn't look ridiculous next to your living room TV. It runs Linux distribution called SteamOS that is designed to be used with a controller.
>>
>>741629101
The 3070 is good enough at this resolution, but with a big asterisk. You will have to make compromises to your rendering resolution and to your game settings. I have a 3080ti and an HP Reverb G2. The Frame and it have the exact same per eye resolution. In games that use SteamVR instead of OpenXR, I often have to turn rendering down to 60%-70% and run games at medium settings. This is where I’ve been hoping the Steam Frame gives the greatest increase to performance, since it will be a headset that uses Valve’s api without any translation layer.
