>I need to return some video game cases with no physical disc
>What's with the empty cabinets?>Do you have a console with games?
>>743299983NO ALLEN
>>743300036Is that Marathon?
>>743300063YES IT IS!
>>743299809did uncs have a melty when VHS tapes went obsolete?
>>743300173No because they were replaced by an objectively better format.
>>743300173They're not terribly important to me.
>>743300173no because dvds were an improvement. its probably hard for you to imagine that things used to improve over time. instead of stagnate and fester.
>>743299809Is this a joke? There is no physical store anymore.
I think Christian Bale was a poor casting choice. I read the book a few times, he doesn't fit, he's a shameless over-actor and not very convincing.
>>743302158that sure is a fucking opinion
>>743300632>VHS to DVDsmight wanna check yourself for amnesia
>>743302269oh boy tell me all about the shit that fucking no one actually bought into.
>>743302158How does the book literally me differ from the movie literally me?
>>743300173No as DVDs were a huge improvement. Think of it like watching a YouTube video at 240p vs 480p.
>>743302269Don't tell me you fell for the Laserdic meme.
>>743302269Lmao he actually thought laser disc had traction. Next you’re going to tell me hd-dvd was successful.
>>743302378>>743302463I meant CDs you dumb fucks
>>743302545no one watched movies on cds
>>743299809>Let's see Allan's PC game collection.
>>743302545I never remember movies being on CD. Maybe they were but I don't recall it being a thing.
>>743302545VHS to cds, what? This retard thinks visual media were on cds.
>>743302737Well I set myself up. I mean movies as yes games were in cds.
How much space did VHS hold?
>>743302384The movie shares a lot of scenes from the book, obviously, but they lack a lot of the building context and psychology that makes the Patrick Bateman character compelling in the first place. Throughout the book you get little snippets and hints that Bateman is not only an unreliable narrator but an extremely unreliable one, as he's always abusing his body in dumb ways with drugs or over-exercise, often immediately before the rest of a chapter begins, and it's so carefully and deliberately written that it becomes clearer he is hallucinating every single thing in the book. None of the murders take place. He's just frustrated and insecure and prays for some explosive moment to reveal "who he really is" (he isn't, he is on drugs, which he takes too many of, and they're also the wrong drugs given his symptoms) only for that to never occur because his ailment is not actually psychosis, but rather vapid ignorance that characterizes every facet of his life. Ironically this isn't limited to his colleagues on Wall Street but also whoever is prescribing him medication. Now the book is well-written, but the author beats you over the head with "This isn't really happening" by having him blow up a car with a pistol, kill 3 police offices in Times Square and nobody cares nor notices, and then also uses a lawyer character (really every character) to basically laugh in Bateman's face and hard-confirm it's all delusions, but every reader I've spoken to has completely missed this somehow. And then the movie kind of erases a lot of that character building, those establishing moments (it has to to some extent; it's a move, not a book) but it ultimately results in a totally different story and character that is completely inferior to the source material. Also Christian Bale just isn't a great actor. He's like a worse, taller Tom Cruise, who funnily enough appears in American Psycho.
>>743302545This anon is sus, as the kids say.
>>743303045That sounds worse than the movie.
>>743300173DVDs were infinitely betteryou could rent a movie and just burn a copy yourselfif you used a DVDr you could continually swap what was on the disc tooit was so open that they switched to streaming to continue value extraction
>>743299809in the future there'll be a blockbuster like rent service where you rent accounts with video gaems
>>743303270netflix used to do that back when you would physically rent out dvds/games from them
>>743303045That sounds better than the movie.
>>743303226You could also easily copy video tapes. I miss those times.
>>743303045That sounds about the same as the movie.
>>743303045>the author beats you over the head with "This isn't really happening" by having him blow up a car with a pistol, kill 3 police offices in Times Square and nobody cares nor notices, and then also uses a lawyer character (really every character) to basically laugh in Bateman's face and hard-confirm it's all delusions, but every reader I've spoken to has completely missed this somehow.Because that's kinda boring, desu. Once you realize it's all in his head the story stops having any stakes. Movie did it right by making it ambiguous, ending on the note that it doesn't matter if he killed people or not; Society doesn't really care and his life is still meaningless.
>>743304258>Once you realize it's all in his head the story stops having any stakesThe scene he is talking about happens at the end of the book.
>>743303045thank you chatgaypete
>>743304606I know you didnt read it but nothing in that post sounds like AI.
>>743304606deadahh unc wrote more than 10 words and thought we wouldn't clock him for using chatgpt??? :skull: :skull: :skull:
>>743304542I know, I'm just saying it gets boring once it's obvious it's all in his head. At least the movie did things more cleverly.
Theres too many game systems, too many proprietary formats, too many retarded decisions made by gaming companies to archive all the aging game discs or make reproduction carts. I think most people in the modern ERA are just going to switch to PC and make their own custom collections. If you really care about the retro gaming and having them in your collection, just do in all in one case like a TV series for all the retro games to keep your ROMS with micro SD cards. That was nintendos worst mistake, the retarded proprietary mini DVD's and the flash roms on the 3DS.The entire NTSC US Nintendo library NDS and below is like 96GB.
>>743302158The book was written by a gay guy and the movie was directed by a staunch female feminist. While trying to shame and ridicule toxic masculanity, they ended up creating one of the most beloved and iconic male characters of all time. Take that as you will.
>>743299809>I need to cancel my Netflix® subscription
>>743303045i aint reading all of that when posted with a tranime image
Discs are still the #2 cheapest data format and the #1 most stable long term solution option to store 100gb of data or under for physical. #1 cheapest is HDD so thats what people usually use for insane amounts of data like terabytes.Anything over 250gb, you either break it into physical multi discs until it fits, compress it until it fits, or use 1tb flash storage if both of those don't work if it HAS to be physical. Most shows/movies still use discs well, and most games need discs for people without ultra fast internet. Still a disc can unpack faster than 90% of people's home internet in the world. Discs are still viable in most places even the US. Companies not using discs paired with a download code for fucking $100 is extremely greedy considering it costs like $2 to make. Sony is out of touch
>>743300173DVDs made a world of difference. However, the issue with many DVDs of that era forced you to sit through trailers for other films and various disclaimers, some even had the "YoU wOuLdN't StEaL a CaR" antipiracy campaign. The age of piracy started becoming a thing since early 2000s, and torrenting reigned after Kazaa and Limewire were popular. Downloading films and watching that way skipped every useless second spent rewinding a cassette or running a DVD.
