retro in particular? pathways into darkness
>>743356685Mohrta is fucking awful dude. Brilliant aesthetics, however.
>>743356613Chasm the Rift is a decent Slav Quake clone
>>743359348based on aesthetics is mainly how i pick out games to play tbqh
>>743359760Then it'll be a solid 8 or 9/10 experience. As a shooter it is genuinely bad.
>>743356613Try Hrot
>>743360295This and Dusk
>>743356613Dark Forces
Play old Soldier Of Fortune, Blood 2, Malice for Quakeâ„¢ (complete retooling of Quake with all new level, enemies weapons, parachute, hoverboard and even personal submarine), Hexen 1&2 and amazing Quake community stuff I'm not exaggerating when I say that Arcane Dimensions is one of the greatest FPS to ever exist. It is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eheKKQdhCs4

>>743356613Outlaws has interesting gunplay that's a bit different from the usual, more fun levels than Dark Forces, and one of the best vidya soundtracks of its era. Unfortunately the game itself is butt-ugly, and it's a real shame because it actually has really cool art direction for the cutscenes, but that didn't translate to in-game. NightDive had a unique opportunity to redo the game assets in the style of the cutscenes for their remaster, but instead they did low-effort upscale-slop textures that's somehow even uglier than original, so that was a complete waste.
>>743361742not a fan of nightdive from what I've seen ha. that's fine for me though, I like to avoid remasters in general, these older shooters clearly feel and play just fine with their original controls and visuals.

>>743364638>Titanfall 2Shan't
>>743364267They have done good job with some remasters like Turok and Powerslave
>>743361201I've never really understood the circlejerk over Arcane Dimensions. It's just a hub of user maps with no hierarchy or direction. For every gem, you get two or three forgettable ones. What's the difference between AD and just launching the best user maps directly using an injector?
>>743364267Their remasters are generally good on a technical level, perhaps not so much artistically. You can always switch to the original graphics so it's not much of an issue, just that in the case of Outlaws it was a missed opportunity. Most other games still look great with the original sprite work and textures, Outlaws never really did IMO.
>>743356613Boltgun is cool and I'm not even a 40k nerd. Every boomer shooter needs a dedicated taunt button.
>>743365326I like gameplay changes too. Sure not every map in AD is peak mapping performance, but overall the mod is very solid.
>>743356613This is a VERY out there suggestion, but give the Wheel of Time FPS a spin.
>>743366337The novelty is cool at first, then you realize it's just pixelated Doom Eternal with the same tiresome arenas of endless waves you need to defeat to progress, and terribly generic and poor levels. To me the best levels were always those with environmental storytelling, and no game did that better than Blood.
>>743365326The quality of the average AD map is way above the average non-AD map.AD (the mod) is a collection of pretty good maps.
>>743356613Serious Sam, Painkiller
>>743367393I have heard of that one but never got around to it, what do you think makes it interesting?
>>743368208Two things:1- You've got lots of spells (weapon), with some weirder ones.2- It's a pretty atmospheric game. Some levels in particular leave a strong impression. It's not like it's a masterpiece, but it's cool. More something to keep in the back of your mind for when you've got nothing else to play.
