It's a great spectacle but the actual platforming is kind of ass and a clear downgrade from NSMBU in everything aside from aesthetics.

It was mid.
All of the characters are the same, they didn't have unique movement options anymore. The first game Daisy is a playable character and she didn't have a unique movement option. I get that you use the badges or whatever to supplement your platforming but it sucks that without them all the characters play the same. No floating with peach or long jump with Luigi. Come on.

At the end of the day it's a 2D platformer. Even the best 2D platformers don't get talked about on here after launch from what I've seen. I do actually consider Mario Wonder to be a great platformer. The wonder effects make it so no two levels feel the same, the animations and physics are great, and the new additions with the Bellabel Park DLC improve upon the original game's faults. I do think the badge system is a bit of the double-edged sword though, since while it does add customization to an otherwise simple control scheme, it also invalidates some of the level design and makes the game easier. I did two playthroughs, one on emulator at launch with friends and another alone with the DLC and no badges, and I found myself appreciating the level design a lot more the second time around.

I really wanted to like it, I love mario, I thought it would be the return of good 2d mario after all the NSMB slop. but its just aggressively mid. the whole game is just gimmick after gimmick instead of solid platforming foundation. I know it wasnt gonna be as good as mario 3 or SMW, but I was at least expecting something as fun as 3d world or odyssey, and its definitely not. Its not even as good as the best NSMB games, which is grim indeed.

It's fun the first playthrough, but gets boring afterwards. The game is 3 years old and has sold 17 million copies, so most people already had their first playthrough. Newsoup genuinely has more replayability due to tighter level design and being marginally more challenging.

Otherwise, it was a one off 2D platformer. It didn't innovate the 2D platformer and what it means, it was just a fun game that had a beginning and an end. It has a multiplayer update semi recently, but it requires actual friends, and you can't play with random people, so, again, it's very limited. It was not designed to have constant discussion. It was a game, it was good, but it's over. We don't have constant conversation around Super Mario World or VVVVVV either, but they are good, solid 2D platformers.

Because it’s a wet fart. The graphics are good, the badges are fun, but every character(unless you want to play baby mode and not take any damage) plays exactly the same. The levels aren’t very difficult at all, and I found most wonder seed events more annoying or boring then fun. The world map feels very sterile, like they took the slightly traversable landscape from 3D world and made it way too small, like 6 levels all crammed together in a small plateau. I liked that there were secret levels to find, but again, it’s really fucking easy to find them. The elephant powerup was a huge letdown and only really amounted to having a way to break bricks that were out of place to block off a secret path/exit. Exploring levels in general usually led to nothing or just tiny amounts of purple shards, making me barely even want to try. The bosses were a JOKE(bowser jr train) or didn’t even exist some times. Search party pixel hunting for invisible blocks can suck my fucking dick. And that faggot catepillar prince stopping you every few seconds for a cutscene can fuck off too
