>>743806635Yes, using AI is completely out of touch
>>743807194Considering the Christmas gifts I got last year, it's because they want to scam people without them knowing it's AI shit
>>743807189It won't replace anyone. Instead of doing proper code, art and assets, digital logistics, etc. you will just have people hired to wrangle an AI to do those things, and have artists, modellers, coders, datamatics, etc. fix up or "paint within the lines" as it were of the AI generated stuff. Nothing is really going to change or be replaced. It's simply creativity, cleverness and originality that is being replaced with a minuscule percentile increase in productivity - on paper. You all misunderstand this shit and how it's going to actually work.
what they should do is just give us a tag for it so i can finally just filter it out
>>743807291How are you supposed to educate us (on the benefits of AI in game development) when you refuse to bring up the subject matter (the real world application of AI in game development)?
I legit don't understand the problem. If letting AI make grass and leaf textures so that you can make your dream game I say go for it.
i'm just not going to buy your game if you used AIi knowwwwwwww i'm just not gonna
If AI is being used or not I'm still not paying for it.
>>743806635Wow, the modern AI audience will love your game, good luck!
>>743807714The problem is for devs who want to use it, knowing full well there is a significant chunk of the market who will not buy any game made with AI for moral or other reasons. They want to use the AI to save money but they don't want to lose the profit that would come with disclosure. They want to be able to keep it a secret and lose out on nothing.

>>743808818as long as it's not labeled "AI made" none will care
>>743808764So label it fucking correctly and people will learn. Hiding the truth is how you get those witch hunts in the first place. It's going to be harder to make that happen if you don't tell people when a good product is using it because they'll keep associating it with the obvious slop.

You know how it's>always do the opposite of what jews sayWhen a company offers a new service, they typically show off the benefits of the use of that service, and then charge you to use it. That's how business works, they offer a benefit in exchange for money. They try to show you the benefits to entice you to spend money.Today I opened gmail and I saw that right below my normal inbox was an "AI inbox". I cannot disable this functionality. It's not enough that I wouldn't pay for it; I don't even want it for free. I actively find it nothing more than clutter that I would remove from my screen. Yet Google is spending money, a whole fucking lot of money as it happens, to FORCE me to use this "service" I don't want. And this is everywhere. I right click on chrome and I get a clickable "ask gemini" button. Did I want this? no. The first google search result is an AI summary of the search result. I neither want nor need this, but it has to happen every time I google something. Every time I do anything, I'm literally burning resources in some data center because Google is generating AI summaries of all of it without even checking whether or not that's something I want. They don't want my money in exchange for this service; hell they aren't even offering it for free, they're providing it and shoving it in my face with no way of asking them to stop. When a corporation is this pressed, this absolutely desperate, to compel me to adopt some technology or service, it should be obvious that I will never, ever do it. I don't even need to understand what the service is, or do any serious weighing of its potential benefits. The fact that the kikes are so absolutely obsessed with getting me to use it is the only proof I will ever need that I do not, ever, ever, ever want to use it.

>>743809718if the rumors are to be believed then a bunch of AAA studios use AI for coding and do not disclose it. How can you tell? Do you have the source code? Lmao yeah sure dude. You need Capcom to come out and go "Okay, SF7 has AI elements, it is only $50" for anyone to have a meaningful conversation. But they won't. >>743809843That's very stupid since even if your character has 6 fingers for 1 frame it doesn't break the game but if there is a bug in the game and cannot be found since it has been vibe-coded then the game is unplayable.A video game is not visuals or a story, it's code, if you did not code a game then you did not in fact make a game in the same way that a sculpture is made by sculpting and if you just drew the concept art for a sculpture but never artistically rendered it in sculpture form, then you did not make that sculpture.Yes that means that if you are a 3D sculptor, then you are not a game developer, you are a 3D sculptor. A video game is the code, a book is the text, not the cover art, if you drew the cover art you did not make the book.

>>743810632Worse than worthless in some ways. There's a problem right now with the big public models circulating bad information. For example, go to Gemini, Grok, ChatGPT etc. and ask them for WW2 german flak team casualty rates.Likely you'll get a specific range of 50-80%, just a flat 80%. This is nonsensical considering flak positions were well away from the frontlines, enemy artillery range and strategic bombing targets, and allied fighters were scared shitless of low- and mid-altitude flak, preferring to abort missions and run instead of strafing flak positions if they came under fire. There are no officially accepted casualty rates for german flak teams, but they're known to have been some of the safest wartime postings. An 80% casualty rate would be worse than what german U-boat crews suffered (and crewing a U-boat was suicidal). The reason the models arrive at such a high percentage is because they source their information from dozens, if not hundreds of AI-slop Youtube videos, which themselves use AI-generated scripts. This constant regurgitation of misinformation has entrenched it as "fact" in all the major public models.

>>743811080I'm not saying this isn't true. I'm saying if I cut development costs by 15%, there's no reason to expect the retail price to be cut by 15%. Cost does not inform price. For fungible goods it does (mostly). If two goods are otherwise indistinguishable, and ONLY compete on price, then in the long term we expect price to fall toward cost because lowest price = largest market share and competitors who can't take the price lower without losing money get priced out of the market (they either get no sales or lose money on the sales they do get). That doesn't apply to non-fungible goods because they aren't competing primarily on price.Sure, Silksong being $20 informs "what the market will bear", because it informs consumer willingness to treat some game as a $30 value rather than a $20 value. But since it would be insane to assume that Silksong being $20 means no consumer will EVER spend $30 for a game, there's no mechanism that forces devs to lower costs until a $20 sale is profitable or else go out of business. If there's no mechanism that does that, cost is utterly divorced from price.

The thing with AI being used in shit like coding software is that it's the equivalent of using duct tape to fix a hole in your roof. Eventually, the tape isn't going to hold any longer, and you don't actually know how to fix the problem, so you're just going to keep slapping more and more layers on top of one another until you've got a leak. How will you know what line of code needs fixing if you can't even identify the problem in the first place if all you've done is generate strings? Sounds like an absolute nightmare if there's a game breaking bug and you need to patch it.
AI images range from terrible to surprisingly good, and if a human with taste filters out the bad ones they can produce decent work. The real problem is AI text, which is a complete waste of time to read. I'm seeing more and more AI text in games as item description is or whatever. If you can't be bothered to write it yourself than just leave it blank! A pair of leather gloves doesn't need a whole paragraph of AI nonsense!
Why do Indians love AI?Because it's a great tool for scamming people.I wish I were just being racist and unfair, but I'm not. Look at how Indians and their bots, right here in this thread, get literally enraged because there are people who support Steam's idea of flagging when AI is used in a product, thereby hindering the use they intend for AI: scamming.Indians, as a people who serve only as cheap labor, should be the first to hate a technology that makes them even less employable. But that doesn’t matter, because they aren't worried about jobs, they're worried about their ability to deceive people, and that's it...They'll defend AI even if it promises to eliminate 100% of all jobs for Indians in the future, as long as they can use it for their scams.

No one.
The only reason why people are using AI to try and make shit like movies and video games is because they want a cheap alternative to a get-rich-quick scheme. That's all these people are motivated for. They don't actually have a story worth telling, they just see shit like Peak or Meccha Chameleon making big bucks and want a piece of the action, because ever since everyone missed out on Bitcoin, that's all these people think about
>>743811887>The real problem is AI text, which is a complete waste of time to read. I'm seeing more and more AI text in games as item description is or whatever. If you can't be bothered to write it yourself than just leave it blank! A pair of leather gloves doesn't need a whole paragraph of AI nonsense!Oh, totally. Because before AI came along, game developers were famous for putting deep, Hemingway-level poetry into item descriptions for level 1 vendor trash.Who could forget the absolute literary masterpiece that was:Leather GlovesDefense: +2A pair of gloves made of leather.Truly, we have fallen from grace. How will we ever recover from having to skim past two whole sentences describing the "supple, weathered hide crafted by a local artisan"? The absolute horror. It must be exhausting scrolling through all those extra pixels.Next you're gonna tell me you want a $70 AAA game with 800 square miles of empty map, but only if the dev hand-wrote a tragic backstory for every rusted spoon sitting in a wooden barrel. Just hit 'Equip' and move on like the rest of us.Dumbass.
>>743810632kek.
>>743806782you mean Bitcoin? Yes you can
>>743812005>>743811887When it comes to text, the issue isn't really that people are generating text out of laziness, but that they're generating text (and everything else), automatically to create cheap products they'll try to sell as legitimate in stores. It's literally a scam, and the AI tag on Steam just annoys so many people (especially those of Indian origin) because it makes their scheme a little harder to pull off.You can program a "Visual Novel Maker" these days, hit "start!", and you’ll have about 20 short visual novels ready to be published on Steam after a week, without you having to do literally anything.
>>743812293Do you actually believe this or are you just shitposting for the sake of it?
>>743811502and? just don't buy it if it's bad. it applies to everything created in this world.
For years there's been an ongoing trend with some devs and artists, both indie and AAA, feeling like they're automatically entitled to money and adoration simply because they worked hard and spent a lot of resources, as if the end product shouldn't matter to the consumer. Pro generative AI game devs are a natural progression of this trend, except they feel entitled to money and adoration while putting in no effort.

High-quality code generated by Claude/Copilot and then heavily refactored, audited, and polished by that same senior dev... also looks like high-quality code. That’s not a bug of disclosure laws/rules; that’s literally just how software craft works. By your logic, if a master carpenter uses a power saw instead of a hand saw to cut a dovetail joint, but cleans it up with a chisel so it looks seamless, using power tools is "inferior."

>>743806635I like AI generation models when it comes to a lot of different things, but you should have to label it.
