Why is Soulcalibur 1 so highly regarded?
>>744565387It is?
>>744565387Because it was good.
I'm not an FGC fag. My favorite was 3 because of the shopkeepers and Taki's tits.
It probably revolutionized 3D games with its 8 way run system and we haven't evolved past that ever since. In fact, we're all back to pseudo 2D with sidestep/sidewalk with tekken being so popular.
>>744565387It had a lot of effort put into the SP content, most fighters before and after were either straight ports of the arcade version or made chiefly for the MP. Also it was graphically equal to the arcade version back at a time when that was an extreme rarity, getting the full arcade visual experience at home was not an insignificant thing.
>>744565387because the ingame player models are accurate to the character's canonical heights. By SC2, that was all gone.
>>744565387It's the game that made the PS2 briefly look bad because no PS2 game looked better than if for a full PS2 launch year. it was also the leading tech display Dreamcast, and it happens to be a good game too.
>>744565642SC3 is unironically the best one since it has the most content, modes and fun out of every entry.>inb4 b-b-but its really unbalancedI don't care and neither should you.
>>744565387>fighting game but set in 1500sA cool concept really.
>>744568104The Dreamcast graphics was vastly superior to the arcade version though, which was unheard of at the time. The arcade version looked more like a late-stage PS1 game
>>744565387It's effectively the first big 3D fighting game besides Virtua Fighter and Tekken to be really fucking cool, have a lot of home release content, and still feel great to play, blowing something like Battle Arena Toshinden in the previous generation out of the water altogether. And yes, I know about Soul Edge, which also wasn't bad by any means. SC2 expanded and SC3 was big if bloated, but SC1 and SC2 are the nostalgia games everything has tried to follow up or in 6's case reboot from for a reason.
>>744568520Wrong.Two was the best soulcalibur
When will Rapeape combat bots seriously? stop trying to fake discussion on this site.>>>/vr/12727547
>>744565792Funny thing about that. Ehrgeiz actually came out a few months before SC1 did, and also did "8 way run". Main difference was Ehrgeiz had you run all over the place haphazardly, and SC smartly kept the focus on the opponent as you moved. We almost were saying that about square instead of bamco, but as usual, they did something retarded and let the other guy run off with their wife.
>>744565387>Soulcalibur 1>highly regardedIt's fine but 2 and 3 are the ones everyone likes.
>>744571143To be fair Ehrgeiz is also designed more like a wrestling game in format than a standard fighter. For some reason, hot off the heels of the whole "we're the fucking Tobal devs that made our own VF/Tekken style fighter" stuff. Ehrgeiz was weird.
>>7445653871. Soooooooouuuuuullll2. Caliburrrrrr
>>744568778It literally ran on a PlayStation-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_System_11_and_System_12
>>744571804No one has source codes for homebrew ports or anything, but it would be amusing if someone was able to get System 11/12 stuff running on PS1 hardware or emulators eventually. It would be barebones as fuck, but actually seeing people run PS1 Soul Calibur would be a feat.
>>744571858Soul Edge arcade actually ran pretty well on emulators for a long time. You can play the release version and see how busted Cervantes was. They had to nerf him in v2.SoulCalibur arcade couldn't be emulated with proper gameplay speed for a long time, but I think Arkadyzja guys managed it recently.
>>744571858>>744574927I looked it up just now and unfortunately I was wrong. Arkadyzja also has the DC version. You can play SC1 Arcade on MAME, but the game runs way too fast.
>>744565387it came out in 1999 before the ps2 was even out so it quite literally felt like a game from the future compared to even high quality 3D fighting games of the previous year like tekken 3it's easy to forget when games have kind of just been the same with more post processing effects and bigger areas for 15 years but just the feel of moving your character around was a massive leap from 5th to 6th genjust a game that came out at the perfect time, OOT and mario 64 get similar praise for just feeling way better to push buttons in then games that came out a year earlier
It came out a year before Smash Bros 64. Compare the graphics.SC was a true next generational leap
>>744575042I wonder if manually setting the CPU back down to 33mhz would help?Sys12 has a 48mhz R3000A but some boards still clocked at 33mhz.
