It creates a kind of messy situation where the only reason Wuk Lamat is going out and getting acquainted with her people is because her father is basically forcing her to in order to get her inheritance or whatever. It deprives her of agency and a situation in which she can display her desire to PERSONALLY know her people by going on the journey of her own volition. The trial being concocted by her dad and basically working to retrace his steps to get acquainted with the people only works if Wuk Lamat is meant to start in a position of a spoiled princess that explicitly doesn't understand or care about her people. But she doesn't. She STARTS as a noble person that's supposed to give a shit about her people, but apparently never cared enough to go see them.It would have been better if the trial was just each candidate finding a way to prove themselves as a worthy successor in their own way (and not with a specific time limit, just because Galool Ja Ja hasn't named a successor yet). So each character demonstrates it differently. Koana is already doing that with all of the technological advancements he's bringing, Zoraal Ja is already doing it by leading the Landsguard and being the war marshal of the nation, and Bakool Ja Ja is doing it through winning tournaments and racism. It would make it much more compelling, give Wuk Lamat more agency, and actually show her character if her way of doing it was to follow in her father's footsteps to see what he saw and how he became such a great king. It would make sense if that then proved her to be a worthier successor. As it is, it feels like she basically just bumbled through the trials, got lucky, and won because the Warrior of Light was helping her. She didn't prove to be a good ruler or that she really cared about people, even though the narrative insists and believes that she did (and she became a superpowered killing machine somehow).

Just reached the start of the Garlemald arc in EW. I got really nostalgic traveling with Lyse again, I was rather fond of her throughout StB and wish she'd remained a Scion. I certainly appreciate having more party members that aren't magic PhDs. She's also the closest this game ever felt to giving the player a love interest.

I'm halfway into DT and wuk lamat isn't anywhere near as bad as people said. i have to wonder how much of it is because of the english VA (i don't know because i play in japanese). the character isn't anything incredible, she's just ok and honestly has much more personality that most scions anyway.however, the premise of the plot is very weak and up until level 92 the msq is absolutely atrocious, like ARR levels of boring. after that it isn't really mindblowing either so I do agree with criticisms there. dungeons and trials are still great so far at least.
