Let's have a fangame thread. None of those sissy hypno vibecoded AI recomps.

I'm assuming romhacks count as half the games in OP are romhacks.
Pic related is probably the best Pokémon game I've ever played.

the what?
you can't just say that and not explain wtf that is bro

the only people who bring up sissy hypno unprompted are people who watch it

Pikmin Squared is great. I haven't played Louie's Quest again yet so I don't know if the further updated Decorated Cannon Beetle is fun to fight now.
>>
>>744694496
Louie's quest was quite good. I was worried it would be like a "difficulty hack" which it feels that way before you get all the pikmin types but it's very balanced and good in a way that a retard like me can enjoy it with a layer of slightly increased difficulty. The final boss was quite challenging but again, I'm really stupid so its probably just me
>>
>>744694697
It's much easier if you kill the prog and get the Pluckaphone.
>>
>>744695308
I got all the parts, but it was a couple months ago so I'm not entirely sure what you mean. From there I started Pikmin 2 but the cave/dungeon system is fucking gay and robs the game of any and all charm

despite playing a bunch i'm still surprised the heavy iron spongebob games have a pretty decent modding scene despite full game mods being uncommon, movie's been getting great treatment, pic related is really good.
>>744695413
NTA but the area you unlock after day 1 has a smokey progg egg you can open and killing it gives you the pluckaphone which does wonders against the final boss' main gimmick of burying pikmin to eat them.

I'd have lost it if I hadn't been (and continue) waiting on Corrupted for double that.

Same, I'm tired of all the troon-spike kaizo hacks. I wish there were more normal hacks like mine

Ring Racers is fucking S+ tier and I will shill it any chance I get because I love it so goddamn much
It's also really weird and hard to get into so I sympathize with people who bounce off it even if I deeply disagree with them

I wouldn't be purchasing anyway

I don't like the fnaf games but this game is precisely what I would want a fnaf game to be, so +1 to frickbear 3
>>
>>744704890
this is why you just release it first then you notify people about it, or a while later it somehow "leaks" and you never explain how it happened
>>
>>744701115
Ring racers was a game I dumped dozens of hours into, but couldn't get any of my friends to play with me.
It's really a shame because it's so cool even if the skill floor is at eye level.
>>
>>744705592
what about lufia II rise of the sinestrals
>>
>>744706539
It weirds me out how put off some of the srb2k guys got.
I always assumed srb2k was this massive skill ceiling and sure enough one YouTube tutorial later and I'm placing top 3 consistently. Ring Racers is fucking hard and you have to really know the tracks and when and how to ringboost and what tricks to do on which jumps. People want to complain it split the community but barely anyone is playing srb2k even among the community forks
>>
>>744706663
It's natural for people to be pissed off by a sequel/replacement game being so different, but Kart Krew also had no fucking idea how to manage PR which definitely made it worse. I think if they had shut the fuck up and weren't so up their own ass about their vision /srb2k/ wouldn't have been nearly as vindictive.

Needing to unlock online mode was retarded btw. Not being able to get a group of friends to play in a private lobby if they didn't all at least win 1 grand prix first is so unbelievably dumb that the person responsible should be blacklisted from making future fangames. Nobody who's trying to pick up a new kart racer with their friends wants to be blueballed by cpus for an hour first.

It may be my kind of game, but Jesus Christ was the launch rocky. We should be grateful anyone still plays at all.
>>
>>744708042
>but Kart Krew also had no fucking idea how to manage PR which definitely made it worse.
I don't think it should be expected of a free fangame devteam to "manage PR", or compromise on their vision, or anything like that, it's not a paid product so who cares
>>
>>744710026
There is a difference between being up your ass about something and not compromising on your vision.
Telling players they're stupid and wrong for not liking the tutorial is being up your ass. Keeping it the same and understanding not everyone will like it is sticking to your guns, but they didn't do that either.
I don't think it's unreasonable for people pretending to be professionals to act professional, but sure nobody making fangames for free needs to be nice, it's a hobby after all.
I don't expect fangame creators to change anything because someone asked, but you were weirded out at why srb2k diehards were upset and I gave you a simplified answer as to why. Poor communication, lashing out at community complaints, and massively changing the design sensibilities of the sequel into something else soured a lot of anons on the game and devs.

I'm sure you'd get different stories from other people who were there, but that's what stood out to me. I don't gaf about drama when playing a game so it didn't stop me, but it's not like people don't have their reasons for not liking it.
>>
I just played Smash Remix Extra + with my brother. He couldn't get into it because N64 Smash is weird. He's used to a jump button and side special. We agreed to play Mega Man Arena next week witch is another great fangame. BTW, isn't it something that now fan games can have crossovers and collabs?
>>
>>744710839
>lashing out at community complaints
This is a really dishonest way of phrasing the actual situation, which was people crashing the fuck out in public forums and acting like complete cunts towards free mod devs, who got rightfully defensive back. The devs were and still are pretty open to talking about the issues with stuff like the tutorial when it was delivered in a sensible and reasoned way, but what happened around the release window was not sensible or reasonable, it was 80% people screeching like tards because they managed to spend 40+ minutes on a 15-20 minute tutorial and people who were just pissy in general about the game doing something different from SRB2K rather than having any real critique to offer beyond "why isn't it this other thing".

To imply that the devs were "up their own asses" or overly obstinate about the mechanics is completely disingenuous, especially given that they immediately pushed patches to answer some of the more pressing complaints and 2.4 was a huge overhaul that reworked/added a ton of shit to make it more sensible.
>>
>>744711763
>BTW, isn't it something that now fan games can have crossovers and collabs?
That's a cool idea. I've never heard of such a thing.
>>
>>744711838
Yeah, Mega Man W is a recent one that lent or gifted or whatever one of its robot masters to Arena. And W also collabed with MM Maker, so a bunch of its stage elements are usable in its last update. That one also added the Cave Story Machine gun. That one isn't a collab because that game is on Steam.
>>
>>744711982
NTA but yeah, they gave them detonate man.
personally i'm waiting for another 8 RM like clown or astro or a MM&B one but those would require an entire spritesheet and frankly dumping the rest of the 5 bots in recently is already great.
>>
>>744704129
>They've been tantruming all day
So was the dev, who was out of touch with the community he was pandering to and didn't realize AI is an untouchable boogeyman you should not use if you want to be on good terms with them. Genwunners really are a separate entity from the rest of pokefags.
>>
>>744704129
>crying about the ethicality of
The bigger issue is that AIslop code is almost always an untestable, unmodifiable black box that the "author" has no understanding of
The whole fucking point of a PC recomp is to make it work as accurate as possible while leaving it open for easy, understandable modification, and AIslop cannot do that

I've been playing the CTR custom content lately, the recent custom adventures were cool, there's lockbox adventure and the 30th anniverary adventure which had some nice tracks to play.
Still waiting for that decomp to finish and the PC port to happen

>isn't it something that now fan games can have crossovers and collabs?
I always figured something like that would be possible. As long as you aren't too diametrically opposed autists each with their own visions of how the games should work (which, to be fair, those types make some of the better stuff), you're just two fans who like the same franchise and want more of it. Being able to shake hands and say "Yeah, you've got some good ideas. Mind if I borrow them?" is just a nice thing to say and do. Mega Man gets a lot of love like that, with fangame Robot Masters getting passed around freely.

Wait what I never knew that
How do you jump in N64 smash if there's no jump button?
>>

the C buttons jump in smash 64, similarly to X and Y in melee
>>
>>744722298
Oh okay that doesn't bad, basically just the same thing
