3's atmosphere > NV's atmosphere

fallout 3 doesn't look like that

It does. Fallout 3 feels post-apocalyptic too and doesn't just look like it. You leave the vault and it looks like a nuclear bomb went off. The Capitol Wasteland is a wasteland.
>>
>>745775645
It's been 200 years
>>
>>745775804
So? Nuclear radiation lasts for 1000s of years and even more.
>By 2077 in the prewar the major nuclear powers had largely retired megaton class thermonuclear weapons in favor of smaller-yield warheads. An average strategic warhead at the time had a yield of about 200-750 kilotons. While less powerful in terms of raw explosive force, these weapons were designed to produce massive amounts of radioactive fallout, making them far more dangerous to the global ecosystem.
>>
in fallout lore hiroshima and nagasaki would still be people banging rocks together and living in sheds in the year 2245
>>
>>745775014
>3's atmosphere > NV's atmosphere
Trve
>>
>>745776551
In Fallout lore more than just 2 cities were nuked with just 1 nuke each.
>>
>>745775014
Yes, everyone agrees on that.
>>
>>745776551
>>745776861
>A total of 77 nuclear missiles were launched at New Vegas
>59 were disarmed by Mr. House
>Another 9 were shot down by laser cannons on the Lucky 38 hotel
>The remaining 9 warheads struck the desert outside the city
DC didn't have Mr. House to defend it and it was a higher value target at that.
>>
>>745777175
If DC was that high value of a target, the entire area would be 100% flattened and you wouldn't be playing Cave Explorer in untouched metro tunnels and finding Lincoln's rifle in a perfectly fine capitol monument.
>>
>>745777175
>New Vegas
*Las Vegas (in the prewar)
>>
>>745777246
You think the capital of the United States of America was not a higher value target than some den of degeneracy in the desert?
>>
>>745777175
The argument isn't that DC wouldn't have evidence of nuclear blasts 200 years later. The argument is that 200 years later the survivors living in the area would have cleaned up the rubble, debris, and bodies up around their living spaces and built structures out of local materials or materials offered by traders such as wood from untouched inland forests. Metal shacks wouldn't make sense in a place with cold winters as it provides no insulation.

The worldbuilding wasn't thought out very well. It's all style versus substance when you compare it to Fallout 1 where the first area you visit outside the vault is Shady Sands that has mudstone walls and is devoid of corpses and junk.

No aura
No MEN
no real game with playing
Bethesda is fallout
>>
is d.c. really just 90% rock and boulders

Interplay Fallouts > Bethesda Fallouts (except New Vegas)
>>
>>745778134
Not enough manpower for that. The vast majority of people from the prewar are dead and there's neither modern medicine nor modern agriculture anymore. Water is radioactive. There's also bring raided, enslaved, super mutant'd, irradiated, etc.
>>
>>745778876
Not true the NCRis five states of reclaimed wasteland with laser fences, ac and decent amenities. and the average person, even the one working Brahmin ranches has a reasonable standard of living and will spend most days not worried about raiders or threat to life. This juvenile fantasy that everything is perpetually developmentally arrested to mad max forever till the end of time is beyond retarded and only appeals to the lowest common denominator
>>
>>745778338
Yes.

>A once verdant and populated area of the U.S., the capital was nearly obliterated with nuclear weapons,[6] during the Great War. As of 2277, the area is little more than a scorching, barren desert where life for its inhabitants is a constant struggle for survival. It stretches from Raven Rock in the northwest to Rivet City in the southeast, with what's left of the Potomac River dividing it roughly in two.

>"We still wanted to have that barren, desert-like landscape. So we decided that DC got hit really hard. Everything was dead, dead, dead. We didn't have a massive art staff. We really cut our teeth on that game trying to use a limited amount of assets that still made places feel unique. Compared to our later games, it's a lot more sparse—but I think it helps reinforce that feeling that humanity is just scraping by. It's a bit messy. And there's lots of inconsistency. But I like that, because it mimics the real world. The world we live in is not homogenous—there's randomness in there."

Both are nice.
>>
>>745779197
NCR territory wasn't a top target for nuking like D.C. was. Also, the water supply is irradiated and therefore unusable. Agriculture is impossible on a large scale without clean water.
>>
I will say that having played 3 first, the setting was mind blowing. It was incredible to enter that world for first time. NV loses that entry shine by being a followup.
That said, my interest for 3 always fell off immediately after leaving the vault, I can't actually recall if I ever beat the game. NV was a lot more engaging throughout.

Bethesda games always have me groaning beyond the intro. I feel like I've tried to replay Skyrim and Oblivion multiple times but always get bored by the time I reach the first settlement. Also Fallout 4 which I've only ever made it a few hours into
>>
>>745779774
Only until a better writer comes along and says it’s 2342 and we fixed that shit and now it’s a blooming metropolis
>>
>>745777390
>some den of degeneracy in the desert?
Well if house was supposed to be some great industrialist, it's not a stretch to think that his manufacturing base would be targeted. Especially considering how much of products were built for the military.
>>
>>745776450
Now go to Chernobyl.
>>
>>745781205
Damn that's crazy bro I didn't know a nuclear bomb exploded there
>>
>>745775014
imo this should've affected how people behave in a way that gave them a survivalist mindset and made them hardy as well as reallly harsh unlike in the Mojave where it's neo Wild West
>>
>>745775014
I never really played fallout 3 only seen footage from internet and generally like nv more but i can agree that it's way more atmospheric yeah, sad bethesda lost even that in fo4
>>
>>745781347
Since you're just talking about the radiation, the initial explosion at Chernobyl released something around 400 times the radiation hiroshima bomb, the fires afterwards continued to send out about twice the amount of radiation of the explosion, and they burned for 14 days, so thats another 672 times, so all told just from these two things, chernobyl released 1072 times the amount of radiation of the hiroshima bomb into it's immediate vicinity and beyond.
The place was, and still is, absolutely drenched in radiation. You can't use the bombs as a gotcha for devestation after pointing out how they were explicitly made to be less damaging.

But the real problem is that bethesda has a wholly different concept of what Fallout means compared to earlier games. Bethesda always has the solutions for any problems coming from before the bombs and saving the present, while the old games had the present succeeding in spite of the past and its failures.

Nuked DC is way more interesting than sorta nuked Las Vegas, I don't care about muh 200 years or whatever, Fallout is basically a pulp anyways so who really cares how realistic the recovery timeline is.

Fallout 1 > 3/NV/4/76
>>
>>745781347
Bro, if you're going to argue with someone, make sure you know your shit. You're making the rest of us Fallout 3 fans sound like fucking morons.
>>
>>745781347
yeah bro it's crazy the nagasaki and hiroshima are totally barren wastelands
>>
>>745783864
>Nuked DC is way more interesting than sorta nuked Las Vegas
It really isn't. Endless subway tunnels full of zombies is the opposite of interesting.
>>
>>745775014
Yeah too bad they're both RPGs which means NV still mogs in that regard

The manual of the first game explained that the game universe runs on different laws of physics.
>>
Why are so many troonvegas/f1 fans so goddamn stupid?
>>
>>745783864
>so who really cares how realistic the recovery timeline is.
the game itself apparently because the entire plot revolves around realistic water crisis meanwhile every town consists of 10 people subsisting off 200 year old food from supermarkets full of raiders and herds of 3 molerats that have no plants to eat.
>>
>>745788615
>makes a game centered around a clean water crisis

this post has always just been utter cope and seethe and being asked questions about things they either forgot or just didn't care about.

>We are writing the next great American novel, but don't you dare ask how the 10 people living in favela shacks 30 feet from a horde of supermutants are even surviving the night let alone feeding themselves.

They want to write stories about serious subjects they have emotional weight but then will suddenly do a 180 to a quest about a kid who has been living in a fridge for 200 years 5 feet away from where his family that has been looking for him lives.
>>
>>745789319
it was in response to someone crying about the indiana jones reference in 4
>>
>>745778876
>they can't grow food or really produce anything but they are raided endlessly by raiders who outnumber then 10-1 even though they should have run out of stuff to steal and people to raid after 2 years let alone 200

On par with people who think pirates just spawn into existence like Skyrim wolves rather than understanding they are ironically enough a product of complex civilization with at least some surplus of labor and good the can be stolen. If civilization effectively doesn't exist then there is nothing to fucking steal in the first place and no one to sell slaves to. The raiders and towns in fallout 3 are genuinely bellow the tier of African tribals in social and economic organizations it is just retarded on its face and undermines the more serious stories and themes that the shitty writers absolute insist be respected
>>
>>745789435
>it was just a reference bro
>>
>>745789530
They ripped off Mad Max, a movie about civilization falling apart due to resource scarcity, which prominently featured roving bands of raiders burning through the last reserves of fuel just to fuck around and look intimidating.
They also ripped off Damnation Alley, but its movie adaptation was so embarrassingly bad that nobody remembers it exists.

Classic. As true today as it was in 2010
