>The Engoodening Of [game that was horrible on release]Has this ever actually happened? A shit game became good with time?
FFXIVThen it became shit again.
Woah, it’s almost like the early access model of releasing dogwater, shitty, unoptimized, buggy full releases to cash in early and recoup money for investors, then later patching the game mildly so just enough players retain enough trust for us to scam them on the next release—actually works.

>>745993484A year ago I would have told you No Man's Sky. However, when I actually booted it up again after 8 years and got hit with like two dozen new mechanics, tutorials, and an assortment of bullshit. I just straight up uninstalled and haven't touched it since.

>>745993998Hunger was always a shit system.
>>745993568I'm really glad I quit at Heavensward. ARR was meh until the last hour of the final patch, which was 12/10 and Heavensward kicked it up to like a 20/10 the whole way through. As far as I am concerned there is no reason for me to play past that, they're never going to top that expansion>>745993484No Man's Sky, which I haven't played, is apparently a very good game now.
>>745993484Basically every game nowadays is garbage on launch and you have to wait a year to get the good version. Monster Hunter Wilds is the perfect example. Catastrophic performance issues on launch with the generic base game every MH launches with. Fast forward a year later and >most performance issues have been fixed>title updates adding more monsters>most importantly, it's now cheaperIf you bought the game at launch, you basically subsidized a portion of the game's development. Every AAA game works this way now, and every AAA game will continue to work this way until consumers stop buying on day 1.
>>745994280>As far as I am concerned there is no reason for me to play past that, they're never going to top that expansionShadowbringers is even better and is now part of the free trial. Endwalker is just as good. Dawntrail is way, way worse, don't bother.
FFXIV, No Man's Sky, Fallout 76, Payday 2FFXIV and Payday 2 later shit the bed again, though.

>>745994845It's nowhere near what they promised, but the fact that the devs put as much effort into it as they did is still commendable. The multiplayer aspect was actually kind of fun but the core gameplay just doesn't appeal to me.
>>745994258how?
>SPTOH
>>745993484Generally no.Something inherently flawed at conception cannot be fixed, and if it was salvagable it wouldn't be "horrible". The classic example of No Man's Sky is actually perfect. It was horrible. Then it was "engoodened", to be "okay".Because "okay" was all the idea was worth at inception. If a hypothetically similar circumstance occured, and the game was improved to be great, it wouldn't have been horrible when it was "bad", just underwhelming, because what was good about the idea on a base level would still be there. Unless we are talking something is genuinely so buggy and mechanically unplayable as to be shit, to the point that anything actually in the game isn't even getting to weigh in, you can't improve something horrible to be something good without completely changing what it was, at which point the results are still probably worse than had you just started over entirely. The phrase "you can't polish a turd" cimes to mind. If something is shit, then no matter how much you try to improve it, it's still shit. Even if there's a little bit of gold in it, you'd be better off removing the gold and starting from that base, instead of trying to turn the shit around it into gold.
>>745993484No. FF14 ARR doesn't count because it isn't actually the same game. It's really just a sequel that takes place after the 1.0 version storyline.

>>745994208I'd say this, but all the street fighters go through an engoodening via more fighter variety and systems. Sfv was an especially lackluster releaseSlime fighter is yet to be engoodened proper. The whole perception around no mans sky is a testament to the power of internet historians video making skills rather than the game itself. Yes they did the right thing by updating it off the back of initial sales. But the vision sold and the game delivered is not the same.

>>745993998Terrain generation used to be wondrous, now it's horribly samey and lame.More blocks is better, but minecraft has focused on the wrong shit (it hasn't improved resource gathering or building [mechanically, not in the more-blocks = more options sense])
>>745993484I don't know if this counts but Batman Arkham Knight was borderline unplayable on PC release due to constant stuttering, on even the strongest hardware, until an update like 8 months afterward actually resolved its loading issues.
>>745993484No. Even 2077 didn't actually fix it's real issues which were the schizophrenic YOLOfaggotry infecting the writing of half the game or the lack of interesting characters or cool shit to do.
>>745997218I can't believe that fucking game main resource gathering is still built around just shit like picking walls with a pickaxe forever. Its that or build some autism machine that does dumb shit for you like the redstone farms, but at that point you may as well play shit like Factorio or Satisfactory.
>>745995956>Starfield LMAO, the fuck are you smoking."We made Fallout 4 but massively fucking worse in every conceivable fucking way. No cool story, no good characters, no interesting places to explore, nothing to fucking do, and we downgraded the equipment systems in almost every single way." Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? The only thing good about it is ship building is neat and there's this broken ass thing you can do with the double barrel shotgun that trivializes the entire game by turning it into a hilarious instant kill cannon.
>>745994280Don't listen to the other anon, Shadowbringers is the best expansion but Endwalker is extremely messy and retarded at many points and its patch story is just as awful as Dawntrail, which almost killed the game.
>>745995956>20772077 was not engoodened am I fucking tired of this fake and gay narrative. 2077 was always a fine game. All the outrage at launch was from last gen owners being rightfully upset that CDPR shipped a game that couldn't run on the hardware. Either that or people with absolute toasters. My PC, with 6 year old components that were mid-grade when they first released, ran it fine. Generally at 45-60 FPS on medium settings with maybe 2-3 CTDs and some self-correcting texture bugs. The 2.0 update didn't change the core mechanics at all and the mostly self-contained DLC just adds more of the same. If you liked the basegame, maybe the improvements and additional content from the DLC/2.0 update bumped it up from a 7-8/10 to a 8-9/10 for you, but there was never some drastic revamp. You can point to the new talent trees all you want, but the combat feels practically the same, I have no fucking idea what people are talking about when they act like the gameplay is now completely different, but I'm glad the updates considerably unfucked the crafting system IIRC. Thats nice, but nothing crazy. The idea that edgerunners saved the game is also fucking retarded. It had already sold 18-19 million copies months before the anime came out, and it would have kept chugging along with consistent sales, even if at a slower rate. The only recent game that seems to have an actual zero to hero redemption story is No Man's Sky. I only ever played it around launch and it was fucking awful. One of my friend's who has played it consistently say its night and day, and I trust his judgment.
>>745993484No man's sky
>>745997582Even minus the people with outdated PCs complaining about a games performance (to that I agree happens way too much) the game DID have a horrendous bug and glitch problem. Even with good frame rate I was encountering immersion breaking bugs or outright load-save-requiring glitches every 15 minutes playing on launch day
>>745997582>2077 was always a fine gameIt has never gotten past being a 6/10.
>>745997468>No cool story, no good characters, no interesting places to explore, nothing to fucking doBut enough about Fallout 4.

>>745993484Sea of Thieves was genuinely amazing until season 7 (the entire season model was already cause for alarm) and there hasnt been an update where theyve not made the game worse in some way. For every good chance they introduced 5 awful ones. Its a damn shame too because despite the technical issues it was a very unique experience, I have yet to be able to find a similar type of game. Shared world PVE, with PVP and organic encounters. Any suggestions? Enjoy other pirate games but the loop of SOT just scratched an itch
>>745993484NMHFo76Cyberpunk
>>745997759Sure. It's possible I got lucky, but I find it hard to believe my aged setup was somehow the sweetspot while people with much nicer rigs got fucked. I'm not exaggerating when I say I experienced a few CTDs and some minor visual bugs. The worst thing I experienced, which I count as one of the CTDs, was having to restart the game and start from autosave a few mins prior because some sidequest event didn't trigger. Either way, I'm stil tired of people acting like the DLCs and updates implemented drastic changes or added features that significantly changed how the game plays. >>745997797I thought it was a regression from TW3, but I quite liked TW3 and the other Witcher games. I hope the sequel can expand on the foundation they built, but I don't even know how much of that remains since they decided to sunset their inhouse engine for UE5.

>>745994280>No Man's Sky, which I haven't played, is apparently a very good game now. This sums up the whole "engoodening" meme. Everybody who claims No Man's Sky got good with time have never actually played it. The game was shit back then and is still shit today, they only added extra layers of shit on top, the whole core of the game remains the same and has always been shit. If you ever hear anybody claim that No Man's Sky got good at any point in time you can safely assume that they never played it and are just parroting popular youtuber tripe. >>745999040GTA Online was great to play when it first came out. Some of the first updates were pretty decent too if I remember. Then it went to complete fucking shit with over-monetization and needlessly goofy / out-of-place content. The classic example is Star Wars Galaxies though. Sony pissed off most of the original playerbase trying to chase WoW's popularity by drastically simplyfing the class system and making Jedi a normal class anyone could play, instead of unique high risk / high power experience reserved for people willing to complete a backbreacking RNG grind. It never recovered after that, although the devs did at least implement some cool things after fucking everything.
>>745999314Allowing you to open shulkers in your inventory would be a huge help. But then that brings up how many shulker shells you need to get to make it more manageable which leads to a farm which is designed in such an insane way to abuse mechanics.
>>745994280>No Man's Sky, which I haven't played, is apparently a very good game now. It's not, and everyone fell for his video hook, line, and sinker without actually playing it after the fact. It's just been quality of life'd into not being as miserable as it was at launch. I check in on it every few years, it's still the same boring slog. You still see the same exact biomes except now they added a handful of unique planets that spawn which have one exclusive item generated to put outside of your house and nothing else. You still go from planet to planet knowing that you're going to find the exact same base elements except maybe two unique resources to the planet, the exact same "tree"-type objects, and usually the exact same types of fauna. You now have things like Crashed Frigates or Alien Bases which are identical every single time and a huge waste of resources to even explore since there's nothing justifiable in them. They added in the frigate system but it's a chore to micromanage and bother with since you have to supply it to do anything. They added base building but all it is is a chore because you just do fetch quests over and over for them getting them random elements or objects in large quantities, they see the Matrix, and then they tell you to do it again. They fixed up the between-planet content when you're flying around but the rewards for doing it aren't worth the hassle. They fixed up the UI and how you sort and stack but it still means constant micromanagement due to the different tiers of materials necessary to do basic things like fly or breathe. They added in a settlement system that is 100% pointless and grindy.>>745994586I would only agree with you on the exploration aspect. On the actual "Read the logs and learn about the world" aspect good lord no. Every single story is either you finding out the person you've been reading about this entire time is either a skeleton five feet away from the last log or a robot. Every single one.

>>745996405This is correct. Without medics and valkaries for Terran, and corsairs for Protoss, there was no way to stop the fucking muta spam. Between muta's and scourge, zerg became unstoppable once they reached the air. The muta's would just spam everything in sight, and the scourge would make sure nothing could chase the mutas past ridges and water. Brood War managed to get the balance just right between the three races that they are all viable for the pros.
