It's just a fun little game with a lot of platforming freedom, made for people who love Super Mario 64 etc. It's entirely non-linear and has no map and rather labyrinthine stages and difficult wall kicking movement, so casuals get filtered out pretty quickly.

Getting more tools makes things more easy and less precise, so if you're bad at the game it'll open up new options, but if you're talented, persistent, creative, or just like to experiment you'll have a great time pseudo-sequence-breaking all over the place everywhere. Personally I didn't find the wallrun at all in my playthrough until I had found literally everything else, but the game gives you so much shit that you genuinely don't need it to get everywhere if you apply yourself and think about how to use the tools you do have at every given point
