So how exactly are you meant to start building bases? I just started giving Subnautica a decent amount of playtime recently, raising it from the grave of my library backlog, but I notice that it seems the "multipurpose room", which an Anon told me is what you should start building around when get you get it, is not unlocked for quite awhile ? Either that or i'm doing shit way out of order, but I managed to get the Moonpool first but prior to that you only had the tiny connecting pieces and very little guidance on how to make use of them properly. Like,do you have to put the support/foundations below every piece? So far I'm making my first 'waystation' base in the Red Grass area, but so far that's just a Moonpool, a solar panel on top of it to power it (during the day of course), and then started to build the core internal features - fabricator, radio, the vehicle upgrade station, and a fuckload of wall lockers for storage. I'd like to get the modification station but I'm either lacking the plans or the items to build it but I read that is what's necessary to unlock fancier gear; will have to check. I made it to the Floating Island and picked up a few plants (coconut thing etc) but by now they're old - can they be used to plant crops either inside a base or underwater? Can you get a sample of anything and plant it? Lacking the "multipurpose room", almost all the other pieces look like connection pieces not actual larger rooms themselves so I don't know if its worth building anything else for the base. Anyone have some overall tips for basebuilding? I've been down to the Mushroom Trees area just below, and now that I managed to grab the Seamoth depth enhancer MK1 (below 200m) upgrade, I figure I can get into the cracks down to the Jellyshroom area where I think that Degassi base referred to by the note on the Floating Island, is present? I'm told that this is where Multipurpose Room parts are but that's a long fucking way to go!
Go to the Degasi base on the southern island and scan the multipurpose room there to unlock itYou don't need foundations anywhereMost plants can be planted underwater in an exterior growbed (I think you can also scan these at the Degasi base), land-based plants can be grown indoors in an indoor growbed (don't remember where to scan these, check the wiki or something)A corridor piece can serve as a base on its own, you don't necessarily need multipurpose rooms, and moonpools in particular are probably a waste of resources for you right nowThe most basic base setup is just a corridor with a hatch and solar panel
>>746488856You can make corridors and junctions, supply them with power, and they work pretty much like bases. And yeah, the jellyshroom area is a place where you find the multipurpose room.
>>746488856You shouldn't. The game is a leftist cuck fantasy.
>>746488856Just do TUUUBES until you get the room, you can also build above the surface and use the platform as and Artifical island to grow shit, though Fruit like the melons aren't actually the optimal food, but it is easy to set up early game because the blueprints are at like the Island. You put the plant beds in the TUUBES too, but it is a tight fit, so i prefer the "Outside above water" approach, especially since i replace them eventually. For early game 1 tube with power supply (probably solar) Crafting terminal and lockers is good enough since it means you can start hoarding shit, you can then slap a Moonpool at the end of it for Seamoth recharging.Multiroom is more because of the stuff that can ONLY be built in it, like the Aquarium (letting you fish farm) and the Water Purifier (Passive supply of H20 and Salt that can be used to make Salted Reginals, and those two things together solve all Food/Water woes)Been years since i last played now though so im saying this by memory.
>>746488856>So how exactly are you meant to start building bases?Any time it fits your interests, or your capabilitites.I don't know why zoom zoom ADHDs are so fixated on "HOW to do things [right]", when the whole point of many of these games is to create your OWN adventure.
I enjoyed the first game and was playing Below Zero but stopped after I glitched through the floor with my prawn suit and lost like two hours of progress. I guess I should get around to finishing it eventually. How's the second game? I haven't really been following all the drama around the CEO or whatever
>>746489152>Degasi base on southern island Is this a different island than the one that you get a radio message to go to? I didn't see any base-like structures on this one, just a lot of plants and such. This one is the giant floating above-the-water island with the coconuts etc.. and when you spend time going around the island, you find a PDA/broadcast that basically says "Survivors from this place decided to set off and build a base" which points to some Degasi base (beacon thing) that I THINK is near the jellyshroom caverns under the red-grass area? What's the purpose of foundations then? They say something about durability but maybe there's something else.? So just don't worry about them at all? To grow a plant (I think I have some growbeds) do you just get a cutting/part of it and plant it in a planter/growbed? Does it matter if its 'old" Like Creepvine samples for instance or even those coconut-like things that were great for food from the above-water island get "old" and lose nutrients very quickly; are they still good for planting to grow more? I assume land based plants have the "greenish" background for the items? Corridor with hatches and solar panels - Huh that really works? Good to know. It doesn't seem like there's enough room to build most indoor things with just the corridor pieces/4 way etc. I tried to build the big locker stand alone thing and it wouldn't fit etc. I already have the moonpool since I somehow found the plans and wanted a place to recharge the Seamoth, and it had enough room around the perimeter to finally build battery rechargers, the small lockers, and the upgrade module creator etc. I don't have much else right now though, its 'just" a moonpool. If I wanted to expand it, can you build new connecting pieces from indoors or do you have to go outside? It seemed like I ended up putting a corridor piece next to, but not actually connected to my moonpool. Likewise, how about vertical building? Thanks
>>746489692They're still at that stage where they're bitching about what fans want while having about a third of the game ready. They'll cave soon and start adding cool things for the second third. Probably will reee out during the third part.
so did subnautica 2 confirm the leftist mindrot? and also are the big scary horrors worth playing for?
>>746489813It's the same island, explore it more. There are two mountains with mini-bases at the peaks, and a main base with a multipurpose room in the valley in between. The jellyshroom caves base is the second Degasi base.Foundations add durability so your base doesn't start leaking. They also provide level ground for growbeds in case you built your base on top of a bunch of rocks or something but otherwise they're not that important.Yes just stick samples or seeds in a growbed, doesn't matter if they're old or rotten. I don't remember if there's any visual distinction between water plants and land plants but the game will probably just not let you plant them in the wrong place, I never tried though.I would just always build an X corridor then build big lockers in the alcovesIt's easier just to go outside to build. Each base part has spots where it can connect to other base parts, for the moonpool there's one on each end and two each on the wider sides, just select your corridor piece then wave it around next to your existing piece until it the preview snaps into place. However you might not be able to join pieces together if, for example, you have a locker in the wayFor vertical building you can just stack base parts on top of each other then go inside and build a ladder between floors. I find the ladder often gets in the way though
>>746489194Can you make multiple width corridor options? That is to say, placing 2 corridors next to them and you get a "double wide" room? Whenever I tried to do this it didn't seem to work and they were just separate ones next to each other. Also on power, so far I'm just using the solar panels which of course only work during the day and (presumably, I've not built below Redgrass area yet) shallow enough for be lit during the day. Does using multiple solar panels expand the benefits and if so do they need to be placed on different rooms? I tried putting 2 panels atop my Moonpool and it didn't seem like it had 2x as much potential power, and kept the same amount as normal (maybe it filled up faster? Not sure)., but perhaps you need to have panels on different base components? Thanks for confirming the Jellyshroom thing, I guess I'll have to get down there now that I got the upgrade that allows the Seamoth to go below 200M - I needed a Depth Mod MK1 to get even close to that Jellyshroom area and didn't want to go without the Seamoth or else I fired I'd not have air sources.>>746489557>platforms as above-water islandsthat's curious, I didn't think you could build that high up..maybe in something like the starting shallows? I tried early building stuff and the outline usually only went a bit higher on stilts, not above-water level, but maybe it would in the right place in the shallowest areas. Thanks for some other tips, I guess i'm just kind of doing it backward - I have the Moonpool and need to build back from there. Its in Redgrass area though so not enough for above ground, though I can probably grow stuff indoors. >>746489570If I was a zoomzoom I'd probably have played this earlier and just found some streamer to copy, but no, I'm not looking for instructions for some perfect build, just general tips from others and that I'm not fucking up what should be much easier because of a misconception or error in implementation
>>746488856Stop following guides for starters, the game is best experienced blind. Its been a while since i played it, but i personally started near the coral reef because it had the fish and some of the materials i used. I started with the basic bitch shit you get from the start and couple of solar panels and just went from there slapping whatever i needed or thought visually looked good.
>>746490527>Can you make multiple width corridor options? That is to say, placing 2 corridors next to them and you get a "double wide" room? No>Does using multiple solar panels expand the benefits and if so do they need to be placed on different rooms? I tried putting 2 panels atop my Moonpool and it didn't seem like it had 2x as much potential power, and kept the same amount as normal They don't need to be placed on different rooms. All power sources are like batteries so the more solar panels you have the more power you can store and IIRC that power will still be available at night. Once you get the multipurpose room it's better to switch to bioreactors though
>>746490453>island Is it a "complete" multipurpose room, or is it a partial scan? I thought I saw maybe some pieces and that's how I got the partial plans for multipurpose room but I don't remember exactly; in any event I didn't see a large base but just some small abandoned construction? I'll go check it again - if there's a complete multipurpose room in one scan, I definitely missed it. If its a matter of scanning one part here, and then another at the next Degasi which I presume is in Jellyshroom from the Beacon I got from the island PDA, that may justt mean I need to go forward to get the next piece. >basebuilding tips, growing etcThanks, that's helpful . For the X corridor do you mean just one 4-way X/cross style piece? I didn't think I'd be able to fit the big freestanding lockers in any of the corridor pieces like that. So going outside to build, so long as its placed in a "green" overlay area it should just connect properly to existing construction? For some reason in the past I had things end up separate, but maybe it was just a matter of depth or inaccurate placement snapping . So for vertical building you can just place stuff above each other and it will open up (provided you have ladders to actually get up there physically). I'm guessing that you need to stack the "same sort or compatible" rooms above each other? In that (default from Steam) pic that looks like only the large rooms are stacked and appear unified as one big room, not the corridors? However, you can create vertical corridors it seems from the pic so I guess that's separate. Oh , can you install windows after construction or does it have to be beforehand for a given type of building piece? >>746490531Not using any guides; I've be farther along if I was. Just going on what some anons told me in the past and occasionally checking an individual item or something.. In the starter shallows I didn't think of building there since I had the repaired lifepod, but
>>746488856"Bases" are completely useless. All you need is a moonpool and a scanner room. Maybe another room for chests (will become obsolete once you get the submarine). I never used anything but thermal energy Just have many bases with moonpool + scanner at various depths for easy material farming and that's it.
>>746488856All the blueprint have various locations around the map. Although if I'm not mistaken the multi-purpose room (the round one) is obtained on the island, by exploring the abandonned base at the top of the mountain. Also here you can get the soil planter and melon seeds, which is all you'll ever need for food and water.
>>746491315>Is it a "complete" multipurpose room, or is it a partial scan?IIRC it's a full scan>For the X corridor do you mean just one 4-way X/cross style piece?Yes, each "arm" is wide enough to fit two lockers facing each other and then I would usually put a battery charger or chair in between>so long as its placed in a "green" overlay area it should just connect properly to existing construction? No, green just means you can build there without something obstructing it, it has to snap in place to actually connect to an existing piece>So for vertical building you can just place stuff above each other and it will open up (provided you have ladders to actually get up there physically). Each room stays the same size, it's not like they merge into a single taller room. The one sort-of exception is if you build two alien containment tanks on top of each other they'll merge into one, but those go inside multipurpose rooms and the multipurpose rooms themselves will remain two separate floors if that makes sense>I'm guessing that you need to stack the "same sort or compatible" rooms above each other?Yes, you can stack corridors on top of each other too, at least with X corridors (never tried stacking other types)>Oh , can you install windows after constructionYes, but they reduce your hull integrity so you'll probably need reinforcements, foundations or bulkheads to make up for it
The updates are so fucking slowNearly half a year and not a single base part gets addedAlso the game is piss easy
>>746488856>So how exactly are you meant to start building bases?just put down a room and then attach other rooms for added space or functionality. this is the most basic shit.
>>746488856test
Every time I restart Subnautica I can't help myself but do this>swim to the big island to scan everything>get those amazing plants for infinite food and water>go all the way to the other side of the map to the big mushroom tree>build a base next to it>run some cables up to the top and add a bunch of solar panelsSurvival done
>>746488856>generators>food and water production>storage>reinforced walls
>>746488856Those foundations look clean. Mine often don't connect to the ground properly they just float
