Shitposting aside, I played so much of Morrowind on the original Xbox. I even bought the console just to play it as a teenager. I was so excited when the GOTY edition released with the expansion packs and even added enemy health bars. Yep, you read that right, the original Morrowind didn't have enemy health bars until the GOTY edition so you had no idea when an enemy would die.

literally everything is "viable" in morrowind
i did picrel once
no direct combat skills at all
i just had a bunch of rings i had made with various spells, whatever scrolls i found along the way, and any custom potions i could make. i would calm, intimidate, then close and reopen quickly to re-admire NPCs into submission or sometimes just go around them. combat didnt actually level me up, other than getting an odd enchanting or athletics level occasionally. so i had to just go around town to town trading and schmoozing in order to get stronger
eventually i enchanted some fancy clothes that boosted my personality and luck to the point where most NPCs didnt attack me at all

if you know what youre doing you can quite literally make any class strong in MW, because each individual mechanic, by itself, is strong/broken. in tandem, you should be able to figure something out, pretty much always

Extended view distance is still a luxury to me. I have been playing on potatos my whole life, so finally being able to extend the draw distance is still something I marvel at years later.
I still keep it to 6 cells because any more makes the world look tiny. It's like disabling the fog in GTA San Andreas.

>>
>>747217427
No, I've already finished Morrowind countless of time before, but it's my first time going TR. I just felt like finishing the Main Quest because it's fun, and high level feel like a safe blanket.
But boy was it long, the next playthrough is going to a doozy.

>>747217380

>>
>>747218536
TR is designed for new characters because they know most people are doing fresh installs when they hear about it. I've heard there are some exclusive TR quests that require you beating the main game but I've never done it.
>>
>>747218536
Go to Shipal-Shin (desert area around Narsis) or Sundered Scar (sulfur ashlands east of Old Ebonheart), even a character who's beaten the main quest can struggle there sometimes

I tested a lot of draw distances and ended up settling for 4. It's cool to see Red Mountain from Vivec or Solstheim from the shore, but everything else starts to feel like a diorama or a scale model. With 4 cells Vivec is not visible from Seyda Neen, the ashlands are not visible from Tel Vos' rooftop, the central Telvanni towers can not be seen from another one, but can be seen from a middle point and the dwemer ruins remain foggy and blurry from Balmora giving them a more mysterious atmosphere.

It'd be cool if there was a mod that makes Red mountain visible even with low draw distance though, like the omnipresent mountain in Journey appearing from within the fog or the Mordor storm as seen from Minas Tirith.

Maybe it's different with OpenMW. With MWSE Vivec is absolutely not visible from Seyda Neen at 6 cells. I get what you're saying through, too much draw distance destroys the magic of the place.

I'm playing vanilla right now but I'm building a modlist as I play because I'm never playing vanilla again. I feel dumber for even insisting to myself that I should play mostly vanilla for my first time when there's so many good mods to use.

It's probably the best Medium armor too, one the best armor period. Especially if you aren't a Dunmer.

Lord's Mail has a stupid cast when used, while Dragonbone has a Constant of 100% Fire Protection which is terrible if you are a dunmer. In Lore, it's supposed to be both that and a Fire Shield.
>>
>>747259198
Not really. It doesn't ask you to be good at EVERYTHING they ask for after all.
>>
>>747200605
I have TR installed and ready to play, but my monitor is a TV with an HDMI cable plugged into it. It has this auto-dimming feature that I can't disable. When I try to run Morrowind, the screen auto-dims anytime I'm indoors or at nightime. I want to play it so bad, but it's unplayable with the screen that dark. Turning up the gamma in the settings does nothing.
>>
>>747260189
Honestly, armour doesn't really matter all that much after a certain point, so it's whatever you like the look of the most.
I'm wearing bonemold for the first time in my 20 years of playing Morrowind, and it looks cool despite how it's not great stats-wise. But as a holy warrior of the Tribunal who isn't currently affiliated with the Ordinators, it looks the part.
>>
>>747260285
OpenMW or MWSE?
If you're using one, try the other. I find MWSE flashbangs you with fullbright interiors unless you turn on per-pixel mode for indoor areas, but this might be just what you need.
>>
>>747260350
I like bonemold armor, it got the style, but the problem I have with it? It's a Guard Armor, so my autistic brain glitch.

>affiliated with the Ordinators
To be fair, they are just confusing.
>>
>Go to do the bloodstone pilgrimage to join the Temple for my current character
>Heh, that flavour text about pilgrims coming and trying the pilgrimage, they put a sharp stone in their shoe and quit after a few steps. Good thing we just have to touch the shrine to -
>Actually, nope, you DO have to do just that for it to count
>If you run with the stone filled shoe, you bleed out fast
>So you have to walk, just as the priests mentioned
>Once you've done this, the priests and ordinators at Almas Thirr like you a lot more and congratulate you on succeeding a grueling test of faith
>Even the average people there mention seeing you doing it if you talk about the pilgrimage
That was really cool. I thought it was just lore and flavour text, but nope. You actually get to do it.

I normally don't bother with the Temple, I mean, you're the Nerevarine and living proof it's a load of shit. But ignoring the main quest and making a Temple character has been fun so far. Since joining the Temple I've stopped raiding tombs too, it doesn't feel like something a holy person would do, although Mentors Ring from the early game is handy.
>>

I mean, Morrowind being an ugly shithole is the point. The Dunmer like that it sucks.

>>
>>747200605
Finally, a Morrowind thread. I can finally point something out that's been bugging me. Everyone complains about early game's stamina issue. People keep going
>my speed is low so I have to run
>since I'm running, my stamina is low/out and I can't hit anything!
>this game sucks!
But the thing is that pic related is the answer to the early game stamina issue. Do people really not use scrolls in this game? Pop one of these bad boys, and you basically have infinite stamina for 120 seconds. The scrolls are cheap, and almost every Mages Guild enchanter has a restocking supply of them. Shit like this prove people suck at the game and don't fucking read.
>>
>>747263385
They could also, just, wait. Scrolls are pretty good too.
>>
>>747263385
>this bad mechanic is good actually because you can use workarounds to negate it
>>
>>747263343

>>
>>747263370

>>
>>747263653
This, but unironically. It's good game design when the game provides you a tool that gives a solution to a problem.
>>
>>747262129
Being high up in the Temple and being the Nerevarine after booting out the Tribunal is an interesting position. Like sure, as Nerevar you're positioned to change Dunmer society and religion anyway, but as the leader of the Temple it would directly be your job to update everything.
>>747263343
Imagine how much more bored they'll be once the Temple is finished/reformed and now nobody is coming to do the tests of faith. That is, if nobody bothers to come and release them from their duties.
>>
>>747263639
You don't need to wait in the first place if you use this scroll before you start running.
>>
>>747263385
My RPG brain tells me not to use consumables or save them for later.
>>
>>747263983
Burt the game provides you with a infinite number of them since it's a restocking scroll most vendors have.
>>
>>747263385
You see, that sort of thing involves actually reading and learning game mechanics. Streamers and the average modern gaymer alike are too ADHD and retarded to figure it out, so even the games that yellow paint everything, point you to the location, and have five different npcs telling you what to do at all times confuse and enrage them. Of course Morrowind is going to be a filter.

Fatigue isn't really a problem at any point in the game because potions and scrolls of restoration are everywhere. Any form of challenge is just too much for casuals.
>>
>>747263385
I make bread+egg potions, it's cheaper.

>>
Has anyone here used the stock exchange system in TR?
>>
>>747269329
Yes. There's also a separate mod you can get (TR_factions) that makes advancement harder in order to factor in the additional quests in mainland. So if you want to get to the top you have to do more quests than usual. I don't use it personally, because I can just manually refrain from asking for advancement

>>
>>747270193
Indoril is only about 1/3 of the way done and the majority of the content will be the capital of Amalexia which is a loooooooooong way off

Narsis was already a massive undertaking and that place is like Narsis x4
>>
>>747244742
Really? Assuming you mean the questline in Old Ebonheart, I was worried while making it that it might be too long compared to vanilla questlines (which tend to max out at 6-8, only very rarely reaching double digits). Perhaps what gives the impression of brevity is that the East Empire Company has fewer chapters in general compared to the standard guilds.
>>
>>747270571
Thanks for precising!
I wonder what the hell they will do with Almalexia, they just can't modify it too much, so I assume they'll put it on the map, without doors, and put the rest outside.

>Narsis was already a massive undertaking and that place is like Narsis x4

Yes. Quite literally yes. It's why everything take too much time. That and they want to redo things for the nth time.
>>
>>747270571
Not x4, more like x1.5, it's going to be bigger but way less dense than Narsis
>>
>>747270817
>how will they even pull that off?
Nobody knows. They keep redoing content that was not that old. And quality of content is already down with this update. Last thread was posted they lost 3 devs due to internal drama. Some talented devs who made acclaimed content left the mod previously too. Their best bet is a new generation of devs joining the project but that seems doubtful.

The city itself is bigger than Narsis, but the total area of Grasping Fortune was much bigger than just Narsis. Almalexia has been slowly encircled like it's being trapped in a pocket. By the time they actually make Almalexia, the only interior/exterior work necessary will be the city itself and some suburbs. The rest down there is Dres territory, estimated release date 2075. It will still be big but I don't think Almalexia alone will be as big as Grasping Fortune.

Morrowind really sucks, and that's sad because its RPG systems are far superior to Oblivion & Skyrim.

Enhanced Morrwind RPG mechanics with graphics of Starfield and other modern QoL upgrades would make it a GOTY.

I love having no mini map or quest marker. Forces you to engage with the world. In games with quest markers and minimaps you are staring at the minimap or compass row 50% of the time and that's really bad.

There is a minimap though. It's just that it only shows places you've already been. In a modern game they just show you the whole map, walk into a town and every place in the town is marked, etc.

You can actually mark locations on the map with notes too
>>

>Run to the outside of the shrine, cast mark, then run back.
>Start the pilgrimage again, leave the house, then cast recall and run into the shrine.
>Inside of the shrine build, but can't find the the actual shrine.
>Some priestess congratulates for coming so long, heals me and tell me actual shrine right behind a door.
>It's a long ass corridor and and I don't want to bother to move my mark and run back to the other side of town.
>Have only like one healing potion left, but I have many magica potion, so I end up play roulette with hearth heal to survives.
>After a bit too many attempts I finally got enough hearth heals in a row to surive all the way to the shrine.

People don't know, Valenwood is basically a frontier outside of Imperial ports and Arenthia, which is their big trade town. Bosmer outside of Valenwood can't break the Green Pact so there's no risk of them turning into monsters. Even inside of Valenwood, most of the Bosmer you meet have a reputation for being friendly and hospitable (if alien) because the unfriendly ones never leave the deep jungle, and outside of it Bosmer are very eager to adapt to local culture and get along. So if you're just a regular person and not some kind of scholar or legionaire your perception of Bosmer is probably "that eager little weirdo at the local bar who desperately wants to be your friend" or "that hot huntress always cutting eyes at you" or if you have light contact with Valenwood "those jolly little savage freaks who only eat meat but sure are friendly."

I really love all the work being done on the borderland between High Rock, Skyrim, and Hammerfell. It was really hard to get into it at first, but now that I'm immersed it's really feeling like its own world wholly apart from Morrowind. Of course that doesn't hold up long when most of the exterior work doesn't have interiors or NPCs to match yet. Still, I really like the way the region is being portrayed.

I love how this art exists yet the ESO devs still chose to portray the wild hunt as just big animals made out of wood instead, most likely because they were like

And this point I think the TR team doesn't have any actual people to WRITE the hardcore parts of morrowind. Most of what you do in mod is just run of the mill stuff. Very likely none of the more interesting houses are written because no one wants to actually take the bullet of showing they have no one capable of actual writing this game.

Long form retrospectives on various games, mostly those made by Bethesda. I'm actually waiting for his video on Fallout 3 and New Vegas because he seems like the only one out there with enough calm and composure to criticize Bethesda Fallout games without devolving into "Fallout 3 and 4 killed my family and ran over my dog" like so many other reviewers. I'm not gonna do it because I'm not enough of a faggot to search or post screenshots of dickscord posts so you're gonna have to take my word on it but yes it is true that the general sentiment among most TR devs is that the concept of House Dres making things like armor out of Argonian body parts is cringe edgy grimderp warhammer-type shit they have no interest in doing, though they don't seem to be necessarily against the idea in the right contexts considering they wrote Dunmer eating Argonian meat & banners made out of Argonian skin into their one original book about the Arnesian War
>>
>>747288246
>House Dres making things like armor out of Argonian body parts is cringe edgy grimderp warhammer-type shit they have no interest in doing
Which is the lore, but whatever. I can agree that it can be grimderp.
Plus making multiple armor and clothing out of Argonians that can be found everywhere thanks to WARES or going there would be pretty huh. Weird. So it's not like I'm fully against it, it's just that this and that send the wrong kind of messages.

>though they don't seem to be necessarily against the idea in the right contexts considering they wrote Dunmer eating Argonian meat & banners made out of Argonian skin into their one original book about the Arnesian War

The latter comes from his Splinter Cell Conviction video where he claims Sam Fisher is out of character, then admits he never played a single Splinter Cell game. He's also wrong because Double Agent was entirely about his slipping morality, especially when he (canonically) frames the bitch for him stopping the cruise ship bombing. Both the vanilla game and TR portray the Hlaalu as being an organization of incredibly corrupt, greedy and amoral swindlers who put on the public face of being loyal Imperial subjects who have adopted Imperial ways whilst actually being rampant slavers who run the Camonna Tong in the background, with TR in particular also having them be a nihilistic cult that's plotting to eventually backstab the Empire
It's a bit ironic you're saying TR is gonna end up being nu-bethesda while unironically believing in the "Hlaalu are hecking wholesomerino progressives", something you could possibly only believe if you've never actually played Morrowind in your life and get all your Hlaalu lore from Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC and 4chan shitposting lol
>>

To be fair, there are some Hlaalu that tries to cull the corruption, mostly Curio, seemingly, and in TR you can sent the Commona Tong to the darkest pits of hell.

>>747292303
Funny story, Kirkbride actually tried to get Bethesda to purge all the blatant rip-off/joke names during the planning for the 4th era setting by using all the big changes brought about by the Oblivion Crisis as an excuse, but it didn't really work out, as the only things that actually made it in was Elsweyr getting split into 2 kingdoms and Summerset being renamed Alinor by the Thalmor, and even those don't really matter in the end since every Skyrim character still acts like Elsweyr still exists and still calls it Summerset
>>
>>747292462

The Sundered Scar is supposed to be a shit hole because they stopped tending it after Nerevar died. Maybe part of building your stronghold will include it not looking like a shit hole swamp anymore.

You think the Indoril would give the Outlander prime real estate?
>>
>>747293227
>>747293792
The idea is for it to be symbolic: They're raising a new Indoril lord and chapel in a land that once belonged to Nerevar's family in the hopes that it will be the thing that saves their house from its downward spiral

Speaking of strongholds, does Hlaalu have a unique TR stronghold or is it still only the Vvardenfell one?

Symbolic and all that is whatever, a player's house should still look appealing. Going "Look, it's so ugly you never want to be there!" and "Nerevar is from a shit hole!" isn't interesting as a player and you don't want to actually use the stronghold. You can put as much pretty little 'symbology' as you want on top but it'll fail as an appealing reward.

I roll with Redoran because they have the most aesthetically pleasing bonemeld helm and pauldrinos. Simple as

Ok, answered my own question: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel_Rebuilt:Great_House_Hlaalu
> Nav Andaram, currently a small shack village, will eventually become the player stronghold on the mainland
so mainland stronghold isn't implemented yet
>>
>>747295346
Apparently you can see what the settlement/stronghold will look like with console commands
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel_Rebuilt:Nav_Andaram
>the completed town layout is viewable by the use of console commands (coc "Nav Andaram")

And? All the vanilla strongholds also follow in-universe logic over how pwetty the environments are. Two of them are in an ash wasteland and the other is in a shithole swamp after all.
>>
>>747295448
ok that didn't work for me, all I saw was some floating lamps

That sounds argonian

Which is why some of the most popular standalone mods are the ones that overhaul the strongholds or give you new player homes, because the vanilla strongholds were ass. That should tell you not to copy vanilla too hard by making them ass on purpose, because players don't like it.

nord raiders and lizard raiders. That's an OLD map though so idk
>>
>>747295693
>>nail-knock reavers
Nord raider pirates who are trying to get the House Redoran's vassal nordic kingdom to revolt under the patronage of the ambitious and expansionist kingdom of Solitude/Haafingar
>>Taj eel xa'nith
An Argonian insurgency that refused to lay down their arms after the Arnesian War and continue to resist the Dres occupation of those river islands
>>
>>747295834
Whoa the redoran questline sounds like its shaping up to be kino
>>
>>747295773
They both still exist in recent maps, though the Nail-Knock Reavers now only control some tiny shithole islands instead of a fairly big chunk of mainland portrayed in that map
>>
>>747295693
>>747295834
One thing about the Redoran planning I noticed was that as a Redoran player you can either team up with the 'friendly' Nords to beat up the Nail-Knocks since they're fucking them over too but in exchange they get more Dunmer control in their area, or you can fuck over ALL the Nords extra hard for a ton of Dunmer influence in former Nord areas. Wouldn't it make sense for it to be possible, as a non-Redoran, to completely fuck the situation up completely so the Nail-Knocks screw over the Redoran hard? But the planning document had no proposal for that.

Yeah but that wouldn't really be Redoran content would it? They could also be planning to just have them be a punching bag villain faction like the Camonna Tong (though they did kinda allow you to cozy up to them in the Narsis Hlaalu quests so who knows)

>Redoran think they're hard for living in an area shittier than Hlaalu, Indoril, or Dres's
>Telvanni's part of Morrowind is the biggest shithole outside of Red Mountain itself, just completely miserable, and they don't even brag about it
>>
>>747296292
Redoran land doesn't suck because the geography, its because hordes of nords and orcs try to invade it every other month
>>
>>747296273
Long-term it will stick out a bit weirdly if SHoTN ever, you know, starts making content. Like if you've teamed up with Solitude in SHoTN but you can't help one of their projects in Morrowind out it'd be weird, though I'm well aware that cross-province stuff isn't on their mind at the moment (outside of the Skyrim/High Rock/Hammerfell sphere where they're doing cross-province stuff intentionally.)
>>
>>747296332
I mean to be fair, most of it is snowy cold shithole like Skyrim only with shrooms or literal ash swamp.

Isn't SHotN a bunch of seperate Nord kingdoms anyway? There won't be any kind of unified Skyrim faction and idk if they even plan to have a High King.
>>
>>747297606
Solitude's thing is trying to move towards a more unified Skyrim and conquering a bunch of outside territory.
