DOA6 was mechanically weaker than previous entries and was even more greedier, so it was even more alienating. It got caught up in the sexualization scandal because people across the world started pretending to hate sexy characters to be accepting of all others.But also the main issue with why it's lesser today is because DOA had a very specific niche of being the other major fighter that successfully lived in both consoles ecosystems. Sure you had ports from other fighters, like Blazblue and whatnot, but DOA was commercially pushed by Microsoft as a headliner for Xbox. When the newer consoles came out, they lost their major advertising platforms and had to rely on easy pick up and play models to get people to play it. And this is around the time that MTX being predatory and sex is bad crowds got more popular, so it died out. Then later it got heat for trying to adapt to modern crowds by changing what made the series great, and released a mediocre product compared to what came before, so it's been downhill since.

Even though DOA6 is the weakest entry in the series, it is still far ahead of whatever the fuck 3D fighters have become nowadays. Soul Calibur 6 was meh and terribly balanced. VF hasn't had a game in 20 years. Tekken 8 is the most devolved and anti-skill fighting game ever made, where each match is just two players mashing forehead together pressing plus on block tracking buttons until someone guesses wrong and loses 60% HP. Dead or Alive has movement, spacing, blind offense gets punished since defense is insanely strong, flowcharting doesn't work. It is the 3D fighter that is most dependent on good fundamentals and skill, despite being quite easy to play.

You rarely ever actually timed the forward input because you'd be eating a huge risk. Parrying did affect the fireball wars, BUT you still see plenty of fireballs even if they do get parried/jumped/slid under. Those are still useful. 3s had a bunch of option selects you had to know, and had to know how to counter. That's the hard set barrier between a basic entry level 3s player and someone who knows what's up. For example, you'd rarely throw out mid normals, since they could get parried by f or d/f. You really wanted to play super duper safe in 3s (as punishment often takes out like 50% of your life into a fucked up mixup), hence why basic shit like confirming cr.lk x2 into super were fucking huge. Or clean Dudley play being f.hk xx sa3, rose f.hk/cr.lk 50/50>anti-airs can get parriedMost of the time, people would just prefer to either air-to-air, or just fucking parry the jump in.
