Is Remedy capable of creating a good 1v1 boss fight?
The Dancer is the closest thing to a good one they've ever done but it is way too easy with not enough attacks.
The Deserter is one of the worst boss fight I had the displeasure to play through.
>>
>>748748358
>The Deserter is one of the worst boss fight I had the displeasure to play through.
You haven't played enough action game boss fights then.
>>
>>748748358
bits and pieces of it are good but they kinda messed up the balancing, the bosses have lots of HP so you have to have time to whittle them down(outside of the gimmick ones like the mold resonant) so they can't use their special attacks too often but the special attacks can be cool
like the tutorial resonant with the floating platforms, I was fucking around and died the first time and only the second time I realized you can actually platform all the way up to her and cancel the whole attack, this was cool as fuck and the game needed more stuff like that
>>
>>748748358
Dancer was pretty good, or more specifically; almost good. I liked that it was just one guy to fight with little to no minions-bullshit

However I'm starting to think that modern devs can't design a solo boss anymore to save their lives with, and with that I mean, mostly person-sized, not some giant faggot where the camera starts tripping when you get too near.
Either it's piss easy or they do some kind of ER Melania bs where you can't get a jab in or else it will drain 3/4 of your life gauge
>>
>>748748358
I did Dancer first by random chance and I haven’t gotten a satisfying bossfight in like 13 hours.
>>
>>748748658
Western devs have long since thrown the towel. They are UNABLE to make an entertaining/challenging (without bullshit) boss fight.
>>
>>748748505
I genuinely think the first boss was the best, after that point you get a bunch of upgrades and pretty much trivialize everything
>>
You can't make a sequel that's worse than the first game.
Also remedy's fucking vague plot that never advances or goes anywhere. Alan Wake is still gonna be in that fucking room in the 12th game.
>>
>>748748717
It's really only Dancer and the Physicist and the latter only because of lore reasons. The rest of the bosses are boring.
The Hedron was almost good but it was just more of the same old minion bullshit.
>>
>>748748827
Mostly this. Time is a flat circle in Remedy games. The story becomes irrelevant because there's never any conflict resolution. Also, they've been writing nothing but mid protagonists since Max Payne.
>>
I wanted to like Dylan so much but he's such a fucking pussy, holy shit.

>>748749396
There are people like Dylan. He is a pretty accurate depiction of them. The logs and the flashback also stay consistent in his characterization.
He could kill everyone if he so wishes but doesn't do it because, at heart of it, he is a good kid and suffers exactly because he could kill everyone if he loses control.
Letting go of the ability to assert himself is the way how he copes with knowing that he CAN do anything he wants but chooses no to.
It is a pretty complex situation and mental state but they pulled it off without making him unlikeable, which is an achievement by itself.

>There are people like Dylan
Yes thank you I didn’t need you to tell me pussy bitches exist
Dylan immediatly excusing the FBC and actually acting like he's the one actually owing them an apology is just fucking pathetic. Just as a reminder
>The FBC kidnapped and psychologically tortured Dylan for years, then were fully intent on locking him away forever
>The FBC directly caused the Hiss invasion
Literally nothing in the shitshow that happened in either game is Dylan’s fault but for some reason Remedy thinks that if they make everyone acts like Dylan is the one who was wrong and need to apologize we're just going to forget that. Well I actually played Control like 2 years ago so I distinctly remember how he did nothing wrong and that the FBC has been a net negative to their stated mission of protecting America against the supernatural.

Is this any good compared to the first game?
I mostly just liked the Ashtray Maze which was peak, but the game was filled with pacing issues and a crap final boss.
This game being open world just sounds like it will be a complete slog with some random highlights sprinkled.
>>
>>748751329
It doesn't matter that he isn't at fault if he feels so much guilt over the stuff.
We could justify Dylan murdering half of the FBC staff but, as the game consistently tells, Dylan is a wallflower.
If Dylan was a self-assured guy from the get go, none of this would have happened because the world would have bent itself for his will. But that is not the story, is it?

Probably when Remedy for some reason thought "hey, we should make an action game" and thought this would be a good idea.

Anyone who says this is like a Kojima story is a fucking retard. The Control / Alan Wake series actually follow a specific storyline with the protagonists trying to defeat the dark place / the hiss. The only thing that the Control series shares with Kojima is some of the visual scenery and that's it. No constant esoteric bullshit about what's going on like Kojima does. The Control story is actually pretty straight forward, Lake just likes to insert some shenanigans here and there but they never take the actual priority from the story. Death Stranding does the opposite and pretends to be deep by painting a picture of weird shit with no proper logical answer.

It’s not a multiverse. Alan Wake and Control take place on the same Earth, and the Bright Falls incident was classified as an AWE by the FBC. Alan’s writings ended up influencing several plot points in the first Control, like how he wrote The Hiss chant into existence, along with Trench letting The Hiss in and committing suicide.

>Dylan, use your hiss vision to find the murderer
>>
>>748755074
IIRC Alan created Jesse to be the "hero" that would save him from the Dark Place, and she needed a proper antagonist to grow into the role, so he made one up that was somewhat similar to the Dark Presence, a reality-bending corrupting force.

I wouldn’t look too closely at how much Alan is actually influencing the world and creating Jesse, the Hiss, Hedron, the FBC and all that jazz, I don't think there's a straight answer to discover, or even that Remedy knows at all.

There are implications (especially in the Night Springs DLC for AW2 and the main story of th4at game itself) that all of the rules Alan operates by don't actually exist and the power of the Dark Place can freely write things into being. But Alan is the kind of writer who believes narrative causality is necessary for everything and so imposes restrictions on what should have none. This is why Jesse already existed and he just 'nudged' her and why he only recycles already present elements instead of wholesale creating new ones. The Hiss incantation might be the only thing he explicitly wrote himself in regards to Control's plot and even then, it clearly got away from him.

They can’t even stop their own agents from eating the fucking Mold.

Something really creepy and fun that this game and the first game does is that there's still some unexplained weirdness not attached to any quest, lore, etc. Like I'd go into one of those gyms and the lockers will just open and close by themselves as soon as I leave the room.

If he accepts that he can warp reality that easily, what's stopping him from going down a spiral of 'everything is replaceable and mothing matters'? He has to believe what he does, even though it's self-destructive.
What he should do is write a non-chronological story. Start with himself getting rescued and then, once he's had a good night's sleep, explain his rescuers in more detail and how they found him.

Zoe is cute, and she's the one that tells Dylan sorry for the FBC treating you like this. I think Pope tells something like that too but she's too autistic while Zoe seems genuenly angry at that. There's also a line in which Dylan is confronted directly by Zoe as to why he isn't that angry at the FBC in which Dylan does state that when he's angry, people die. So yes, Zoe is indeed cute

Dark Souls ruined Boss Fights. Especially human-sized ones. Mostly because you can't balance around a player character who might be using any build in the game. All you can do is make it difficult for everyone by adding unfair moves to the Boss.

God of War 2018 and Ragnarok's best fights gameplay-wise are the regular human-sized bosses. Valkyries, Baldur in 2018. Berserkers, Valkyries, and Gods in Ragnarok.
>>
>>748758629
It's about as good as the first Control but just like every Remedy game you should NOT play it now
Unless you're really autistic about the verse you should wait until they release DLCs, Control and AW2 both have very important DLCs that mean a lot in relation to the main game. If you play them way after you've finished the game, you'll have forgotten a bunch of important stuff so you're basically setting yourself up for a mandatory replay and Remedy games aren't atrocious to replay but it's still kind of boring to lose the surprise

There is a lot of filler in this game. Whole "crafting" system is a waste of time.
I really dislike modern open world games, it's just busy work with no real reward.
Control 1 had some of this but ratio of interesting stuff to grind was better.
I skipped more than half of optional quests as a result.
It would be better if it was shorter. And I really miss the environment destruction.
>>
>>748758629
I doubt Control's gameplay was what hooked you in (even though personally I love it) but everything except the gunplay is there. The courage to switch to melee combat, after every single game in your catalogue being a third person shooter, not fumbling it and making it with such polish is something to be applauded, specially given the current state of this industry.
Control was an 8. Resonant is a 9.5 (8 for me because the combat is dry).

Take a look at the Patterning, it's when someone can resonate perfectly with that resonance.

The official theme song of the game is called " Obsessive Compulsive Order", talking about the new pattern.
Now look at each individual you listed.
>Arist obsessed with the intricate pattern in her designs
>Dancer obsessed with the perfect dance routine and execution
>Arish obsessed with destroying the Hiss and capturing it (like the pattern itself)

That's the common denominator, they're all obsessed with maintaining a perfect order in some way.

Jack Joyce and technically his brother William is the one who "broke time".
Also in the QB universe (again probably considered separate a separate universe now) you start the game in Alan Wake's Alma mater university, he's established being a successful writer. Also throughout the game you find documents talking about "Objects of Power" and AWE, so seemingly there's some sort of FBC activity present there as well.
>>
>>748763256
He truly only has to work if some other extradimensional entity starts trying to breakthrough. Everything else is just an aberrant stab away from solution.
He should be getting maximum government bucks for everything they did to him AND for saving the literal universe.
>>
>>748762737
I am just saying that even if Dylan was willing to work with FBC after all that, it still doesn't make sense to accept a literal death switch by the guys who have been your bane since you got kidnapped as a kid.

It was Trench who brought the Hiss in. Dylan just saw his chance to escape because between FBC who will 100% lock him up and Hiss who might just have him as an Avatar, it was the better option.

But you think it was Dylan who invited the Hiss in by how antoganist FBC is in the game

The Gap *is* him. It's the part of his brain where he keeps his powers and astral self.

https://blog.playstation.com/2026/09/29/how-control-resonants-art-design-and-tech-shaped-its-bosses-paranaturally-twisted-manhattan-and-more/

So I think it's like he always has a key to the Gap and the projector is just a physical backdoor that allows *other* people to get in. (Maybe all the slides were to other people's minds and we just never knew.)

So that explains where he got the *data* for the slide. The interesting part is that he makes a physical home for that data out of thin air. AFAIK, other paras can't make things from nothing.

I think another interview said that Dylan has a paranatural ability to manifest mental spaces physically, but I can't find it.

There is one thing I don't get.
The main reason for Prime Candidates to exists is to be the next Director.
Why the FUCK would you think abusing and experimenting on your potential future Director is a good idea? Like, if Dylan became the Director, do Dr. Darling and others think they wouldn't be in the deepest shit possible?
>>
>>748766537
You still have a good chunk of game ahead of you.

Which is pretty stupid considering it’s stated in the first game the program candidates tend to be very low-level and that Jesse and Dylan are absolute freaks of nature. IIRC somewhere in the first game they were talking about how using the thingy that gives you telekinesis to move a piece of paper across a room with your mind was a great success. Trench couldn't do shit without the Gun. Northmoor went nuclear but it was a slow process. Dylan killed a dude but before the Hiss got in he was hardly more dangerous than a random man with access to sharp objects.
>>
>>748766673
The timeline is a bit vague, but you can tell that they only really started abusing him once Darling had the thought of not making him director but still useful as an asset, after Robert died and the MCD got put on

My bet is on Control 3 since the game is explicitly about Dylan and Dylan only. Jesse only vagueposts the entire game.

Darling was a retard when dealing with Dylan. He never saw Dylan as human being, only as a test subject and his experiments were the incorrect path to take with this specific subject, that was the real downfall of the PCP.

The ending is terrible. You get to fight a biblically accurate anus who throws mobs at you for 3-4 times (every time you enter into that anus) and then you just faint, and then Jesse revives you, but she gets in a coma in the end.
Why there was no sibling fight in the end?
It would have been as cool as meeting red in mt silver in pokemon 2nd gen games. Why Remedy is so retarded and has such a boner for Dr Darling's theatricals in this game?

For the first 3 years, Darling was generally nice with Dylan. He let him have fun, talk to people outside of the project staff, and became something of a father figure to him, which is especially tragic given how Dylan real dad wasn’t the best person. When he turned 13, and there still wasn’t any progress, Darling started to take the kid gloves off to force him to use his powers. This meant turning up the pressure on him during tests by either making them as physically and mentally draining as possible, or having Darling screaming at him that he needed to be perfect and that he was wasting his time. Dylan would be kept up for days at a time without rest so he could keep testing, and constantly drugged during these tests for different reasons. His punishments for failure or lashing out became more and more severe, and his rewards couldn’t even be classified as the bare minimum. Dylan hated it so much that he tried to escape multiple times, and the third time resulted in Roberts, head of security at the time, being made Dylan’s 24/7 warden so another escape wouldn’t happen, and so staff would stop smuggling him treats and trying to treat him better when he wasn’t watching, which was especially bad given the implication that he may have beat Dylan for insubordination, or at least threatened to do so. This culminated in Dylan lashing out and killing Roberts, potentially in self defense, which resulted in the MCD’s creation, and Darling deciding that maybe Dylan could still be useful as a weapon if he couldn’t be the next Director. Dylan lashes out again, kills more people, gets locked away after being deemed a failure, and the rest is history.

People get told not to fight fire with fire and yet they do it anyway as if it wasn't real advice, as if it'd work anyway, after all it always seems like it would work doesn't it? Kill the killer, no tolerance for intolerance, an eye for an eye, ingest the mold, scorched earth tactics, burn down your own government, happens all the time so we have to ponder the merits if you gnome saying. These are all clearly bad things to do but not matter how often wise men insist eat the mold we disobey and how wise are they really? You don't fuck with a supernatural human like that, nevermind your potential future leader/supersoldier.
Like, even without Hiss stuff there is a decent chance things would have been exploded sooner or later. Like, by all accounts in Control 1 and Control Resonance. There are multiple domino stones where just one of them dropping might cause a catastrophic reaction and only Fadens, Dylan and Jesse existing saved FBC and the world.

Imagine a timeline where Dylan managed to bust out and then helps other Objects of Power, Persons of Power like Northmoor and altered items to break out. Perhaps the day Jesse arrives at the Oldest House.

>>
There's a new Darling video in NG+ where he mentions that after seeing Dylan wasn't usable as director, he proposed bringing in Jesse (who they were already looking into and could track down anyway) but Trench shut it down, specifically saying that The Board insists in keeping the siblings not apart but "separated". So add that to the list of evidence for Jesse and Dylan being the same person
>>
>maybe it's Cat of Power
Langston is pretty funny guy
>>
>>748759634
I'm guessing they're switching back to Jesse for the 3rd game to tell her side of the story
>>
so what was the deal with those computers?
>>
>>748781545
to make you sweat about what would happen later if you make shit up
and supply some mats/resources
>>
>>748766573
>Dylan cannot bind objects in a coma
>Jesse takes a fragment and somehow traps the board inside
>Binds the board to Dylan by stabbing him with Aberrant
>>
>>748781437
we've never actually seen both siblings talk to each other in the [real world] while still being either in control of themselves or conscious. it's always
>in control of the hiss
>in another plane of existence/dimension
>in a flashback
>one is in a coma
>>
>>748780204
Yeah I thought it was great, but I love The X Files so if your not into that it probably won't appeal to you
>>
taxi quest ended on such a lame note that im wondering if they're gonna expand it somehow in a future dlc
>>

Felt like they butchered his character a little bit to push how hard they were on Dylan. Seemed more incompetent than indifferent to his candidate.
Well, I suppose most of the FBC is constantly characterized as more incompetent than orderly. It's like they stumbled into bureaucracy by accident when they went into the Oldest House rather than built it up themselves.
>>
>>748779434
It really doesn't take that long to get used to. I found the movement more satisfying than most 3D platformers
>>
>>748782004
Different main writer.
Zoe is the self insert character btw.

just make the Hiss more effective so they don't require Dr. BigEgo McRetard to fuck shit up
>>
>>748782160
Too bad she doesn't want to date Dylan.
>>
>>748754170
It’ll be mad bs if everything that’s happen is because of his writing bs
>>
>>748782160
Yeah... they definitely wanted to push some sort of friend zone almost romance with her or some shit.
>>
>>748780418
This, our entire society is the result of like 10% of the population being competent
>>
>>748782250
its called being tsundere and she absolutely is interested in dylan

I could’ve fixed the game btw
>7 years since the first game's event
>The Hiss is now extinct within the Oldest House but the door to the outside doesn’t open
>Pope finds out a tiny, tiny part of the Hiss remains within Dylan and it’s impossible to get it out. It may be what keeps the lockdown active, all they can do is kill him
>Jesse refuses and has an innate trust in her brother, but she can't actively fight the FBC without destroying everything she's built. She also fears that something huge is coming their way
>She ventures into the Astral Plane and stole the Board's ability to make an astral nail pining the Hiss to Dylan permanently
>This pisses off the Board but she bails before that right as the Pattern invades the city
>Dylan escapes from the FBC and is initially hostile to them, only wanting to be left alone and be free. But since his sister has disappeared and the city is locked down by the Pattern he has no choice to align himself with the FBC, passing himself as a parautilitarian (or something), leading to humorous situations where the dude who spent the majority of his life in a cell must pass himself as a born and bred New Yorker.
>The entire game there's doubt on whether the Pattern was caused by Jesse, Dylan, or both, or the Board, or something else
>Hiss enemies reappears around the city too
>Dylan feels guilty about it enough to attempt suicide, but he notices the Hiss within him is violently hostile to the new one
>Ultimately the Pattern is revealed to be caused by another Hedron who sensed Polaris' death and took 7 years to reach New York
>The Patterning and Hiss resurgence, are only echoes of past events caused by the grieving cries of the Hedron, unable to perceive humans. It leaves when Jesse and Dylan manage to capture its attention enough to make it understand what it’s causing.
>The passage of the Hedron in our dimension widened the way enough that now other shits my come out of the woods.
Also my nigga Ahti comes back.
>>
>>748782209
>just make the Hiss more effective
>now Dylan can't be half-cured by Jesee or he gets 'swallowed' the first time leftover hiss in his head flares up when confronting new hedron
if everyone was super competent unrivaled genius there would be no hiss or mold to begin with
which would be stupid as fuck because the whole story is about dealing with extremely dangerous paranatural entities which are hard to understand or counter
>well there was this super mold absolutely taking over everything and really hard to eradicate or even slow down
>but we're did it in 2 months, that how good we are
would be really out of place

She was my first too (after the artist) and she was piss easy, but I did as many side quests on my way to her as I could.
Using Cleave, Extend and the round trip finisher I forgot the name.
>>
>>748784360
Did you buy a game or did you download the leaked version?
>>
Does Enemy Aggression affect bosses too? I want more aggressive bosses but regular encounters feel good already.

If you liked AW1, no.
If you like Reddit, yes.

You should be happy people would mention your country at all. Remedy is single handedly keeping vg studios relevant over there. My summer car doesn't count.
>inb4 noo we finns are shhy and keep to ourselves and don't want attention
Then fuck off

Steam version. But I don't think there's any difference, they're all on the same patch at this point right? Even the leaked version can probably be patched.
>>
>>748784824
There was a huge difference.
Leaked version didn't have the day one patch.
And patching leaked version involved re-downloading a whole game. I did that after beating the Dancer.

so uh were they going to tell me at any point that the taskboards, you know, EXIST?

So NOBODY knows what that computer in the unknown carpark does???
>>
>>748785615
It just gave me some resources after couple of questions.
I bet there are other terminals somewhere but I don't care.
>>
>>748785762
Not the ones that asks you questions

Theres one by itself next to a lone car and when you activate it it plays a song. Theres nothing else like it in the game
>>
>>748785502
Exactly!
>>
>>748785920
>Theres nothing else like it in the game
I've found two of those, both playing this kind of cool 8-bit music. There's probably more, just have to find them.
>>
>>748747583
Does anyone else have audio desync.
>>
>>748785920
>there's nothing else like it in the game
explore harder, there are multiple of these computers
there's also a bunch of random interactable radios but those feel a little less special
>>
>>748785920
Found two as well so far, I think it's just music. Waited a long time near one of them and nothing happened. Maybe if you play all of them at once without reloading the game or something, but I ain't gonna check that shit.
>>
>>748785137
Oh I know, I just think they overcorrected and made her too easy.

100% Jesse and Dylan are the same person, those letters from their Grandma sealed the deal for me

I have successfully vibe-coded a mod. I added options to balance it yourself that only apply to the when you use the "abilities" so you can make them really strong or more inline with primary weapons

Why did George Costanza get trapped in the astral plane?
>>
>>748786353
I mean it's pretty much spelled out in the Underpass fault.
>>
>>748786353
They’re two halves of Jesse Dylan Faden, the only daughter of Harry and Kathy Faden. Playing Severed Circle 2 split her in half, and effectively made two different children, which led to the rapid mental decline of the parents because their daughter was gone. Think of it like Jojolion but in reverse. Josuke is made from the bodies of Josefumi and Kira, but despite some similarities, he isn’t either of them. He’s his own person, and Josefumi and Kira are both dead, just like how Jesse Dylan Faden is gone, and only Jesse Faden and Dylan Faden remain.
>>

I decided I didn't really care to find out.
That section with the trains was beyond confusing.
>>
>>748785348

holy shit lmao literally NO ONE notices this shit, you get an achievement for doing the first task and it's the rarest one I got so far
that's fucking funny
>>
>>748785348
I think they only unlock after you finish the main quest.
>>
>>748787882
nope
they might unlock after Arish gets fired after the MCD fiasco since the first one is given by his replacement, but I'm nowhere near finished with the story
>>
Question for people who have played all these "shared universe" Remedy games: Does it actually feel coherent? Like if you play all the games in release order is it actually rewarding as an overarching story? Or is it glorified "lore" tidbits that don't mean much?
Full disclosure I've only played a few hours of Alan Wake 1 and Control 1 and don't know anything about the lore.
>>
>>748779432
Wilson wasn't selfish or incompetent everyone just refused to believe him
>>

AW2 and Control definitely do.
>>
>>748789518
>is it actually rewarding as an overarching story
yes
>or is it glorified "lore" tidbits that don't mean much
there's plenty of that too but it adds to the enjoyment
