10+ year later I... still feel like I don't need anything "better"?

Nothing "better" has come out so it's a moot point.

There's a big enough library between those and emulation to keep a non neet occupied for life.

Gaming is dead. Imagine paying dollars to corporations for slop made by computers. But we have 40 years of history, so its ok.

all you need is pc and switch 2
switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives and pc for everything else

Kinda same except I have a Series X, Switch OLED, and a hacked WiiU. Between the SeX and WiiU I can play most of my old library of games, and obviously newer games on SeX. The Switch I got when Metroid Dread came out, and basically I just use for Metroid games. I may get a Switch 2 later on because Ravenous won’t release on SW1, but that would probably be the last thing I get for a while. Hardware is too expensive now, especially when most western games (like half the market) are dogshit now.

I'm just sticking to the Switch2 for both first-parties and third-parties, and there is already far too many vidya on it to keep up with my current amount of spare time.
Maybe I'll give a shit about PC gaming again when the price of components won't be astronomically high and that there will be something beyond random quality ports of console titles.

I mean you don't "need" any games. You can replay Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and Nioh 2 for the rest of your life. Mix in other hobbies. I don't know. You could draw or write or play blitz. You really don't "need" video games. The idea of "better" is subjective too. What's "better" than an N64 with a couple games like Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64? I often wonder why I didn't just stick to that and move on from gaming. The answer is all biology and the psychology involved. The interesting thing is that the current and next gen is making it much less rewarding to participate in the hobby. I mean really, how many of us are going to buy a $1200+ PS6 with no disc drive? The kids that are okay with an all digital future are just going to keep playing on their smartphones or Steam. The last few years I've made an effort to reduce my "consoomer" behavior but I have to admit that buying stuff feels nice when I can afford it. Yet, my buying behavior has been markedly reduced in recent years. For example, most of the games I recently purchased were just old games or remasters of old games. Or cheapo indie titles. I doubt I will ever give up gaming as long as I have a device capable of playing some decent game. But it's looking like even though I'm incapable of fully controlling my buying behavior that it's self-correcting anyway. The new games and hardware simply aren't appealing to my demographic and that's fine by me.
