The issues vary from>that's a nice normalfag filter to>fire volvo's whole software team
>>749033516The sad part is that even if it is janky as fuck to adjust, yet works well once you get it done, it’s still better than Meta’s gigashit software.
>>749033042Alyx was good. But that was also six years ago.
Valve should've worked on developing KDE and Linux more, the software stack, audio stack, proton support, codec acquisition. Then they should've focused on removing DRM and addressing the censorship concerns or at the very least make games offline playable without steam. Then they should've focused on the deck 2.Serious question, what the fuck is Gabe thinking. Here's my review from someone who owns a Quest 3 (the good version) and just got a Steam Frame. The Good>Incredibly small and lightweight, feels great on your head>Hand Tracking is great, precise controls that no other VR has>Display looks great, love the FOV increase from the Quest 3>Controllers feel big and bulky which can be good or bad depending on your hand size>Standalone VR is cool, but pretty limited at the moment >NO META, fuck you ZuckerbergThe Bad>Ergonomic Kits are already sold out so if you get a chance to buy a Frame you can't because they already got scalped, so you don't get knuckle straps which SHOULD HAVE BEEN default>The 1TB model is pointless, you will not be downloading that many games on it>They wasted so much time trying to make playing actual games in VR a thing when you will never do this>The battery fucking sucks, you'll need a replacement battery immediately>Not glasses friendly, constantly get tension headaches trying to fit mine in this fucking thing>"Press side grip buttons to activate laser mouse" MAKE THIS SHIT DEFAULT VALVE FUCK YOU FOR MAKING ME PRESS A BUTTON EVERY TIME TO USE LASER CONTROLS FUCCCCKKK THIS SUCKS>Streaming is good, but Virtual Desktop on a Quest 3 runs and looks 100000% betterIn my opinion, the Frame is an upgrade for Quest owners but a downgrade for Index owners. I wish Valve spent less time trying to make the Frame a VR Steam Deck and more time optimizing what was already on the Index to be better while competing with the Quest line more directly rather than being a weird side-grade of both the Index and the Quest. It's expensive and not necessarily BETTER than what we already had, but it feels nice if you have it and it's not a bad headset. It's just disappointing after waiting for so long.
>>749024575This guy has full blown AIDS, valve need to torch this unit after getting it back.
>>749047639>Ergonomic Kits are already sold out so if you get a chance to buy a Frame you can't because they already got scalpedWhat the fuck.
>>749024575Kind of weird that a retro gaming channel just returned the best retro gaming portable. When everything is an enhanced recomp he will be playing it in 2d indefinitely
>>749047639Another point I forgot to include in this post that's pretty important is the lack of third party support for the Frame and how not much existing stuff works out of the box with it coming from an Index or a Quest. I believe this is a moot point because over time the Frame will obviously get better accessories, battery packs, trackers, etc.; but right now it's so new that you have to judge the headset as it is without these QOL things and when you do it is just not up to snuff with the competition and it's existing accessories. Once they exist it'll be a different conversation, but that brings in another point as to how you HAVE to buy the Frame now if you get a reserve slot or resign yourself to waiting another full year for a shot to get it or buy from a scalper. tl;dr for both posts: good headset for newcomers/Quest owners, bad launch and not worth it right now if you're an enthusiast with a crazy existing setup.
>>749047639The fact that they can’t match Quest 3 with VD is really disappointing, because it seemed like they tried to make the wireless streaming tech their main forte. Instead seems that the comfort and Zuck-free existence are the real big things.
>>749029054tbf, they are just as incompetent as their competition. They just have more money to burn.
>>749026559It's running an x86 windows game on an ARM phone chip with linux. That's not saying that the questionable value to the customer is excused because the performance loss is expected. But to say that doesn't solve a problem is retarded. The game library that just got translated to arm is huge even if its all old games.
>>749048145I also got a Steam Machine a few months ago so I use Steam Link constantly to do configurations on it and I could see wireless streaming sucking ass from a mile away. Steam Link fucking sucks and it will never be as good as the competition unless they redo it from the ground up, there's constant lag and dropped connection no matter how you set it up, and I have my Machine and my PC linked through a network switch right now and STILL get bad visuals and delay depending on how hard Gaben's yacht is swaying that day I guess.
>>749029213They sell their entire small supply and can't keep it in stock and make a profit. What does successful mean? You like it? shut up retard
>>749024575Valve needs to go all in on customizability. Sell a bare bones, super cheap "it just works" base unit, then sell plug-and-play upgrades and QoL add-ons on top of that.
>>749030656>>High Price vs. Utility>blame AI>>749030836Yeah this. Frame is $250 more but you get infinite VR converted classics you don't have time to play them all
>>749024737ask any dev that took epics exclusivity deal, steamies really are this rabid
>>749032982Retard take. The alternative to software layers is not playing those layered games at all. The controls are compatible with every gamepad game and make VR mods very playable without fucked mappings. What is an accessory system? Third parties haven't released accessories yet.
>>749029830if you use steam why wouldn't you critique it? do you want it to be as shit enig store and gaystation
>>749024674So it's a cult?
>>749035620But without hardware to target you are just working on that without working for any customers. Steam OS doesn't work across broad hardware yet so very few people install it. You had to make the deck first to make steam OS for deck. They are just repeating the same process for desktop/living room and VR.
>>749047639>>>They wasted so much time trying to make playing actual games in VR a thing when you will never do thisI dunno, I like this, especially since you can make the view massive. Feels like you're in a theater. It's definitely early days with software though, but I also remember how the deck was at launch. Excited to see what valve and the community do with it.
>>749048740Criticism should be made in good faith, otherwise it's just shitposting and trying to suck the dick of another corporation they're too cowardly to name
>>749049529Agreed
>>749049529retards like you claim all criticism is in bad faith, therefore all criticism of valve should be ignored. Prove you aren't a shill then, give me a good faith criticism of valve.
>>749047639>>Ergonomic Kits are already sold out so if you get a chance to buy a Frame you can't because they already got scalped, so you don't get knuckle straps which SHOULD HAVE BEEN defaultI think they let people checkout with more than one set. It's completely insane. I don't know if they overmade them and they are tricking scalpers, but right now people don't have hand straps. The third party ones block the LEDs.>They wasted so much time trying to make playing actual games in VR a thing when you will never do thisSorry I am tired of cranking my neck down to look at an 8 inch screen. Awesome travel portable even if it can't run graphics as good as the deck or switch.>Not glasses friendly, constantly get tension headaches trying to fit mine in this fucking thingWho cares because that's vastly inferior to just paying for inserts for the $1000 headset like you are supposed to.>Streaming is good, but Virtual Desktop on a Quest 3 runs and looks 100000% betterVD lets you do absurd bitrates with high latency and no one ever checks the latency. Godin is going to try to get it on the frame and he will probably be successful. But the quest 3 is completely outmatched for streaming because lack of eyetracking. Frame will be able to produce the same quality at lower latency. It also has that expansion port if hardware is preventing the use of pyrowave, a sub 1 ms high bandwidth codec.>In my opinion, the Frame is an upgrade for Quest owners but a downgrade for Index owners. That's the exact opposite of reality. The carrots for quest 3 owners aren't worth the price after they dropped $500 on it. Index is dog shit and is only better for sound, and frame is getting index speakers soon.Making frame a VR steam deck takes mostly software man hours at valve, not hardware.Frame is in the same gen as quest because it's streaming first so waiting for a more modern chip wouldn't be worth it. Pancake lenses are brutal and preventing better panels than low res LCD.
>>749048478I'd fucking love a 4k oled display. I don't care if it's 2.5k, it's already stupid expensive, just give me the option. The could remove the ram and standalone part too, honestly, to get it cheaper. It's not powerful enough for anything but barebones simple, 2d or ancient games.

>>749039964>>censorship concerns>Payment provider problem.reminder DLsite made their own payment processor while being exponentially smaller than valvemeanwhile valve not only immediately folded, they banned far more than they had to while using the extra blackrock money from those bans to buy more yachts
I bet GabeN personally has enough wealth to gift a Steam Frame to every sweaty nerd who wants one, and Valve as a company has enough cash flow to gift one to anyone alive. That said, just to make clear how nobody here is innocent, if we assume they're keeping margins as low as they can because they still have to operate as a business, the whole Steam Machine and Steam Frame debacle is solely due to the massive global economic crisis NVidia and the RAM cartel manufactured. Jensen should be shot like the CEO he is, along with the C-suite of all the aforementioned companies.
got a steam machine because i wanted the controller before 2027 and because i've wanted a good living room pc for a few years and am worried that tech scarcity is only going to get worse and worse might end up selling it 2 a friend if I don't get as much use out of the machine as i hope, we'll see
>>749050028Reminder dlsite is jewish as fuck and their "currency" expires and they also still capitulate to karens and payment process by removing whole swathes of products deemed too icky to sell while hiding tons of games from anyone outside of japan, including games steam openly still sells. The situation for payment processors in japan is also not at all the same as it is in the US. Are you here to say anything relevant about the frame or just regurgitate the same garbage posts over and over because gayben touched you in the nono zone?

got my frame pretty much right away during launch. coming from the index (and having used an AVP for a good amount of time) you obviously lose the tracking benefits from the lighthouses though id say its not really all that noticeable 99% of the time, and the audio isnt going to be as good as the off-ear drivers, but the frame is so much lighter and far more comfortable that its not even close. not to mention streaming quality is pretty much imperceptible to where if someone told me what i was seeing was off a displayport connection id believe them it basically eliminated the setup/putaway time & comfort barrier to doing more VR for me, and if the deck was able to accelerate proton development then id imagine the frame will do the same for both FEX and for getting foveated rendering adopted in more games

>>749065998Nah if you're a sim autist (racing or flight) a quest 3 or ps2vr is the best you can buy and actually worth it. There's tons of used ones on marketplace for like $250 and the upgrade for full immersion is unmatched. The frame is just in a weird spot where it's trying to be a (underpowered) Linux PC that has no killer apps. For $1300 I'd just save up the money and get a pimax instead. At least that has OLED.
I've never once looked a piece of Steam hardware and thought "Wow, that looks like something I'd want." But that might be because I already have a good PC so a lot of it's redundant. For VR, especially though... that is just too risky to invest in. The whole VR industry has looked like it's teetering on a cliff for about a decade. It hasn't fallen off yet, but it hasn't pulled itself onto firm ground either. I had a Samsung Odessey+ a long time ago and only used it for about 8 hours. Mostly for porn.
What made VR a pipe dream? Is humanity just too dumb to develop it properly or was it never going to meet the hype regardless?
So how's PSVR2 with PSVR2Toolkit? I've only heard really briefly that it's good PSVR2Toolkit and pre-owned is like almost 4 times cheaper than the cheapest Frame.
