>A new free and open-source utility called SCSKiller, short for Shader Compilation Stutter Killer, is taking direct aim at one of the most persistent problems affecting modern PC games: shader/Pipeline State Object (PSO) compilation stutter.>The program scans the shaders shipped with a game, determines the pipelines it is likely to build, and compiles them into the GPU driver's shader cache before the game is launched. In theory, this means the driver doesn't have to stop and compile those pipelines the first time an effect appears during gameplay, which should eliminate just-in-time PSO compilation stutters.https://github.com/BlueHeisenberg/SCSKiller

And a retarded indian reading this summary will 100% that's the collective sentiment of the thread

Vulkan/DX12 were a mistake because it showed just how fucking retarded the average game develop is. Few games do it right where the shaders are compiled the first time you play the game. The fact that this was ever an issue and modern, complex shaders were compiled during gameplay was fucking moronic.
>>749028291>NANI!?? CONSOLES ARE PERFORMING BETTER THAN A PC>Dynamic resolution with 30 fps>performing better.
>>749028358better yet why can't this be part of steam's content delivery service? have a few people with the same configuration compute it first then it gets shared for everyone else with that set up.
>>749029204>60 buckeroos a year just to be able to play gamesjesus christ
>>749029158>The fact that this was ever an issue and modern, complex shaders were compiled during gameplay was fucking moronic. This is an UE5 problem. We even got SSD consoles because of this shit, and the problem persists. kek But devs making Vulkan stuff know their shit. Vulkan is hard asf, I heard, while every game dev knows how to make DX12 because Microsoft pays them.
>>749029313it is but just for vulkan and opengl

>>749029313>>749029426Microsoft did something about this shader stuff this week (Advanced Shader Delivery), but it's for Xbox PC app only for now; it can be implemented on Steam. Looks like it's open source.
>>749029896Everything uses AI now and that's a good thing
>>749029352No, it's 100% to do with how Vulkan and DX12 fundamentally work as rendering APIs. Yeah, Vulkan can offer lower CPU overhead than older APIs like DX11 and more explicit control and if you know what you're doing, it does give you more control. The problem is that older APIs like DX11 had the driver do a lot of heavy lifting and vendors like NVIDIA could do a whole lot there. In Vulkan and DX12, You want a loading screen to compile shaders because the burden was moved from the driver onto the developer and if you don't do it before hand, it's happening in real time. Unreal has had support for PSO caching for a while now.
This isn't even close to being a big enough problem for me to install AIslop on my PC.
>>749027842
>>749027748doesn't Steam already download pre-compiled shaders?
>>749030735Not all games does this. Compiling all the shaders when you first launch a game is a newer thing that some games do.

>compile HLSL or whatever shader language to intermediate bytecode (DXIL,SPIR-V)>setup a load screen >have the game get the driver interpret the bytecode and spit out ISA specific machine code for that GPU and cache itShrimple. It's only really still a problem due to console ports because none of this is really an issue with consoles (why would you ship a console title with bytecode when you know you're only ever going to target one GPU ISA).
