Have you ever been inspired to make something because of a video game? Fanworks of any kind or even something original?Uty inspired me to start writing, and I know a lot of anons started different projects of their own.Share with me this weekend what vidya projects you are embarking on!
I'm so tired anon
You already have your successful, established "general" on >>>/vrpg/4124668 so kindly fuck off and stop spamming these garbage threads on /v/. Thanks!
>>749456578This is not a general but thanks for stopping by
Do you believe in shaping your fanmade project around others opinions or do you prefer unleashing your unfiltered autism to the world?
>>749456697Yep. Mhmm. Totally. This weekly, recurring thread about a specific game isn't a ge-... oh wait, it IS a general, and you'd have to be blind not to recognize that fact.
Is this actually a game dev thread or another fucking UTY thread
>>749456778A lot of the latter but a little of both I want to express my autism. But I also like playing into what people say they like when writing. Makes it a little more fun for me
>>749456970depends of what you post, you have the power to steer the conversation as long as you actually reply to people with topics that interest you instead of waiting for others to do it for you
>>749456970The game dev general is >>749376084 thattaway.
>>749456970Its both you silly goose. But you already knew that.
>>749456851>a bunch of screenshots of well spaced out discussions breaching different topicswhat did he mean by this?
>>749456778I want to make a game that I would enjoy, if people have opinions I agree with then I'll let them shape the game, but I would never add something I dislike just because its popular.
>>749457209That's fair, but there's an element of things that you like that you wouldn't have thought of getting added because you liked part of a community suggestion, so you're right it's not shaping it around others opinions but still benefiting from them in a good way.
>>749456778full autism.dont like it? not my problem.
>release first game>rpg>develops incredibly small yet devoted following>occasionally get DMs asking about what X thing meant in the context of the game's lore and what it's going to mean for potential sequels>most of it is shit I either genuinely barely thought about, flat-out didn't think about at all, or had plans for that were incredibly lame and obvious compared to what these people are speculatinghaha
>>749457209I'm thinking more about potentially contentious things in your writing.Like, I don't think UTY's pacifist ending would have gone well with more beta readers for example.
>>749457384thank you toby fox
>>749457384Wow! you are literally me but on a bigger scale
>>749456851>autists on /v/ when you want to discuss videogames and not twitter screencaps
>>749457384as a tabletop dm, sometimes when people make assumptions about my plot that are just way fucking cooler than what I had in mind, I'll kind of hybridize their idea into things. It's not the same as changing things when people guess right you know? Just "oh fuck that's good I'm gonna copy that."
>>749457397If you mean javing editora/beta readera then I value them too, the advantage of making a solo fangame is that you have full creative control, but having an extra pair of eyes on your story is good, sometimes there are plot holes or badly written scenes that you can't see for yourself.
Why are trannytale fags like this?>BRO WHO LOVES FANGAMES, HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED AN FANGAME?? ANYWAYS HERES UNDERTALE YELLOW AGAIN
>>749457525you know we're not stopping you from talking about your fangame, right?you know that we'll actually engage with you if your fangame isnt even remotely related to UT/DR, right?
>>749457606I remember when someone was bringing up some mario fangames and like, the history of mario fangames in a discussion way back. that was a pretty cool time.
been feeling like playing mario's mystery meat again
>>749457658sometimes I just open a video of that one and just, take it in.I don't know what to think of that game.
>>749456456When I was 15 I got hit with the 1-2-3 combo of Berserk, Demon Souls, and Game of Thrones and I really wanted to write grimdark short stories but alas it was just an ADHD induced pipedream that I liked the idea of more than the act of. It's a good thing too, I fucking hate grimdark these days.
>>749456456I've got a couple stories in my notes somewhere heavily inspired by the Half-Life series. One of them was basically just HL1, but in the artic and with dimensional time travel instead completely alien universes.
>>749456778I think a balance must be struck.
>>749457606Stop being disingenuous, you intentionally wanted to talk about that one game and you've done this many times. Why tiptoe around what you really want to talk about
>>749457845just because we want to talk about one thing in particular doesnt mean that we wont talk about another.what fangame do you want to talk about anon?
>>749457384>spoilerYou can just "borrow" those ideas instead. No one will know that your "subtle foreshadowing" is all entirely retroactive.Anyways, what game? Does it it have funny creature characters?
>>749456970If you want to tell me about your game I'd be happy to hear.
>>749457845we talk about that game, and about other games. there's nothing disingenuous about it when we actually do what we say.>>749457767is there anything you want to write these days instead?and yeah I remember the perfect storm of mid 2000's anime edginess hitting me about the same way.
>>749457914>Does it it have funny creature characters?yeah you guessed it
>>749457772you ever think about doing something with those notes?might be fun.
>>749457772>HL but in the articWasn't that one of the ideas for HL3?
>>749457397>I don't think UTY's pacifist ending would have gone well with more beta readers for example. You think its fine as is or do you think that beta readers wouldn't see a problem with it?
>>749457914>No one will know that your "subtle foreshadowing" is all entirely retroactive.I wonder howany times that must have happened, writers using fan ideas that are cooler than what they had planned
>>749457525Deltarune Hallow's Eve Hack is fun. Jericho is my favorite character. I wish more people would play it so they can see that "unique" ending it has.
>>749458162I haven't given it a shot because I keep hearing that it's so buggy that it can be hard to finish, but it sounds like a cool fever dream
>>749457767Writing is fun, anon. You should give it another try. Even if you never make proper prose, just getting notes and an outline together can be a fun exercise. Its like playing pretend for adults.
>>749458146i know it happened with Star Wars a lot. The Mandalorians and Darth Maul only became recurring characters because George saw how popular they were and regretted killing them off.
>>749458202Play it until you get tired of dealing with bugs, then watch a playthrough. Its a really linear game, so the experience is basically the same. Was exactly the same for me since I ended up getting a million HP from a bug at some point, making the combat impossible to lose.
>>749458360fair, next time I'm up for playan rather than discussan, I might give it a shot.
>>749458320I think thats a bit different, thats more like the fans wanting to see more of these cool characters, I'm talking about authors using fan theories that are supported on irrlevant details
>>749458048Well, HL3 and the HL2 beta. I was inspired more by Entropy Zero 2's reinterpretation of it. Though I was going to take things in a radically different direction, focusing a lot more on paleobiology, speculative evolution, and time travel, rather than space aliens.and interplanetary travel.>>749458024Yeah, but I have a lot of ideas like that, some I'm already actively working on. So they have to wait in line. Had another one for a human collaborator working for the rapidly collapsing alien police state (which definetly isn't the combine) desperately trying to survive as the revolution takes off and its participants are out for blood. That one was pretty HL2 beta inspired with how fucked everything is.
>>749457995May I see them?
>>749458567>Yeah, but I have a lot of ideas like that, some I'm already actively working on. So they have to wait in line.that's fair, long as you're working on something you can enjoy.>Had another one for a human collaborator working for the rapidly collapsing alien police state (which definetly isn't the combine) desperately trying to survive as the revolution takes off and its participants are out for blood. That one was pretty HL2 beta inspired with how fucked everything is.while the inspirations are clear, it still sounds fun. is that what you're working on, or are you in progress on something else altogether?
I saw one of the jap UTY artists talking about this and I kinda find it weird I haven’t really seen much art of it, but do you guys also think Ceroba would look good smoking a kiseru pipe?
>>749458484I can't think of any, but that's probably the point. If it was a fan idea, then the writers probably wouldn't want to say so.I think the closest thing I've seen to that is VoTV and signal simulator adding scares Joel joked about in his streams. Like the bathroom scare or the inclusion of greys in VoTV.
>>749458690I think I've seen an artist depicting her with one. She'd have to be drawn with a certain "flourish" I think to sell the look. I'll see if I can find the image.
>>749458643>s that what you're working onIts not what I'm working on, it was just something related to that other HL inspired story, so I thought it was worth mentioning.Currently I'm working on Star Wars fanfiction, about an Imperial captain during the collapse of the empire. If you couldn't tell, I have a thing for characters who were on the wrong side of history.
>>749458815>Currently I'm working on Star Wars fanfiction, about an Imperial captain during the collapse of the empire. If you couldn't tell, I have a thing for characters who were on the wrong side of history.oh hey it's you!I hope that's still going well then
>>749458690I could see her and Chujin sharing one
>>749458841Its kinda not going at all. I'm still stalled in the second chapter.
>>749458608oh I thought you clocked which game it was, hence "you guessed it"not gonna outright say, you can probably figure it out if you've lurked a bit
>>749458889ah, sorry to hear that. I've been stalled on some things for far longer than I'd like to admit. gonna try the "just put anything on the page" approach to see if I can get past my block when I finish proofreading something else.
>>749458815Have you written an outline, or are you just trying to write prose and go?
>>749458086I think they would have pushed the writers to change the whole thing really
>>749458948Is it orang or is it gren?
>>749458985I think the pacifist probably could've done well to have a complete do over.
>>749458815>I have a thing for characters who were on the wrong side of history. Then why are you writing about the Empire?I kid.
>>749458948Actually, now that I think about it, that could apply to DRY too. Even I do it. I think everyone here does it. That doesn't narrow it down at all.
>>749459224Empire aside, "the wrong side of history" doesn't actually mean that you're in the wrong, just that the people who think you are in the wrong won and wrote the history books about how evil you were. You're a special kind of fucked when even the flow of history itself has become your enemy, and I respect the struggle of those against it.
>>749459214Yeah but that's the whole point of why I made that first question.Do you think have your vision overwritten like this is worth it for a better reception?
>>749459260I don't think that anon is a fangame dev
>>749458978I wrote an outline, I usually do, but it was a really rough one, and I only realized a few days ago that I really didn't characterize the characters at all when I outlined. Now I've got a proper characterization for my main duo, so I can actually tell them apart and have their personalities drive their actions, but I need to make the outline I have into prose that maps onto that.
>>749459326Ah, I see.
>>749459396He's talking like I should know who he is. If he's not any of those, then I don't know who he is.
>>749459358Part of being a good writer is being able to accept when something you've written is bad. Its said that in writing you have to kill your darlings. Sometimes you have an idea that you really like, and it just doesn't work out and you have to toss it.
That was a bit of an abrupt stop.
>>749460057I am looking for an image of the roba, in a folder I have never organized and continue to avoid organizing.
