Crazy to realize that BioWare would've been around and one of the greatest developers of the 2020s if they had only made a different ending for Mass Effect 3.
>>750271462more like if they made anything worthwhile since me3
what about the other games
>>750271692Morale wouldn't have dropped if 3 was a masterpiece. Many OGs would've kept faith in their studio if fans didn't tell them they sucked and nothing mattered anymore.
ME3 isn't what killed Bioware it was the games after Inquisition that ended them.AnthemAndromedaVeilguard
>>750271836I completely disagree.Mass Effect 3 was when they were full of hubris becuase ME2 was their reknowned GOTY, and didn't notice they were dripping out the people that kept their games honest and authentic. They started moving more and more towards pure action, and continued with Anthem, which was led by the same "Core Team" that did Mass Effect 3, including Mac Walters in the beginning thinking he knew how to make New IP after not really being instrumental to making Mass Effect 1, and openly stating that "Other writers cared about minutia, but not me." so he sat out on most lore babble on the first game while others made a great universe. Then he ended up in charge and overestimated himself IMO, wrote this shit ending, and they made a game with too many cooks in the kitchen.Like this is effectively the Resident Evil 6 of BioWare, but unlike Capcom it didn't lead to a RE7, because they didn't listen to the criticisms and kept going further off the cliff.
I've always found funny how for all of the big talk about "worldbuilding", "combat" and "choices" at the end of the day the only thing people care about when it comes to Western RPGs is the romance mechanics and the romanceable characters. WRPGs are basically the western equivalent of visual novels / coomer games.
>>750273421>WRPGs are basically the western equivalent of visual novels / coomer games. That only applies to Bioware games specifically which are mocked by most serious CRPG fans
>>750273421>"worldbuilding", "combat" and "choices"funny you mention these three because jrpgs lack all of them and most people like these games because of anime waifus
>>750273421It used to be evenly divided but sow division as far back as Mass Effect 2.I remember what the internet was like when people were still invested in Mass Effect as an ongoing series and how there's be people crying about Garrus next to someone rolling his eyes bemoaning the inclusion of "stupid romance options."They used to coexist but as actual gamers and developers lost faith in BioWare the ship of theseus increasingly consisted of a bunch of idiots who think BioWare games are mainly about Romance and "It's about the CHARACTERZ"I clench my teeth seeing YouTube videos about the BioWare situation where half of them are like>I can't believe EA would do this, it's so heartless!>Mass Effect meant so much TO ME!!I'm a bigger Mass Effect fan than almost anyone I've met but to me the love includes giving a shit about its world, which they ruined, and being an even split between a "game with combat in it" and "a game where the player has agency in decisionmaking and exploration".You could deliver a fucking Telltale product called "Mass Effect By BioWare" and idiots would lap it up because they don't understand the construct.
>>750271462You're a retard if you believe a different ending to a 2012 game would've magically made Inquisition, Andromeda, Anthem and Veilguard not dogshit or it would've resulted in an alternate timeline where the studio didn't succumb to post-2016 Commiefornia politics.
>>750271462If you think the ending of Mass Effect 3 was the main problem you don't even play video games, only gossip about them.
>>7502732202 is the worst of the three, though.
>>750271462You fucking idiot.
>>750273718>But what about- We aren't talking about JRPGs; we're talking about WRPGs. Bringing JRPGs only makes WRPGs look infinitely worse because they should be better; they should aim above lonely people trying to use digital media as a replacement for interpersonal relationships.
Mass Effect 2 was the beginning of the end but some of you aren't ready for the conversation.Completely irrelevant game in the overarching plot which put too much on ME3 to handle.
>>750273764How could you even care about Mass Effect's world after the dogshit ideas such as the unironically named Lazarus Project, thermal clips, and fucking skeleton reapers?I absolutely loved the setting while playing the first game, then proceeded to absolutely loathe it during the second. Maybe because I was an adult at the time of their releases, which made action packed retardation a lot more offensive than it would have been to a kid.Either way I've still never played a Bioware game since.
>>750271462Yes I'm sure a game from the early 2010s would've affected "the 2020s" more than shit like pic related. Retard.
>>750273836Inquisition would've been produced with retained belief that BioWare was this "up and coming GOTY studio" which they had literally just been 2 games before.Of course Dragon Age 2 was a problem, but people always kinda saw that as an understandable side-bitch to Mass Effect 3 being the main star, only disappointed it didn't turn out to be a DAO.In the end the course was inevitable because all was symptomatic of EA owning the studio and meddling with it, and changing the wiring of people's brains whoever was left, and other important muckamucks leaving when they saw the signs. So yeah, DAI would've likely been more or less the same game, but if you actually followed BioWare and behind the scenes and saw their panels and shit after 2012, the amount of lost low-self esteem was apparent on their attitude. They went from being kinda showoffy and boasting like "yea we're BioWare" to being anxious at every panel having at least 1 attendant going>So... the ME3 ending, I still don't get what you meant with it.Self-deprecatingly calling themselves "BioFail" and stuff. That kind of change cascades around the office like a disease, until people started self-identifying as losers between then and their last 3 fiasco games. Just look at the fucking meme guy who hugged Greg Miller on Anthem. That dude is actually depressed. By Anthem they had become a studio full of depressed washups.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qNvEBVGotMhttps://youtu.be/3xZMkX6qXvE&t=2207https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31uNL4y2ClA
>>750274313>Inquisition would've been produced with retained belief that BioWare was this "up and coming GOTY studio"Inquisition literally did win GOTY and remains the best selling BioWare game to date. God you're dumb. Not even gonna bother reading the rest.
Reminder Bioware were seething so badly that people called this ending shit and shot the child that they added a fuck you ending if you shoot him that instantly kills everyone
>>750271462The true and canon ending was kino, and I'm tired of pretending it's nothttps://youtu.be/qj3F8fLFU0Q?t=2615
>>7502739452 did a lot expanding and developing the cast and some important plotlines that conclude in 3.
>>750273959>How could you even care about Mass Effect's world after the dogshit ideas such as the unironically named Lazarus Project, thermal clips, and fucking skeleton reapers?Thermal clips was a literal last minute addition, mainly led by designers, not writers, and the writers accepting it, with a few lines thrown in to minimize the strangeness of it. Why should that ruin the entire world for me, even if it's silly? People walk around in decompressed spaces with naked torsos in Mass Effect 2. I have a problem with that but that's also clearly just a designer problem, which they didn't have in ME1 and they fixed it in 3, and the writers didn't endorse it so who gives a shit.Lazarus Project is dumb, but the concept of having a science-project-cheating-death plot-point in a brand new sci-fi sequel isn't out of the picture in my book. It's only in hindsight that I thought it was odd that nothing came of it, and again from a design-to-writing POV it made some sense to "Reset" Shepard into an unwilling position with a slightly changed world due to the time-skip, but yeah pretty silly they had to use revival and not just a coma or something. Ultimately it's a downplayed aspect that almost meant nothing and nothing comes from it, so without a lot of emphasis it's like why should I care that it exists when so many other aspects were still working well in terms of writing.Mass Effect 3 is the one where everything just felt amateurish to me. The dialogue is fully of socially awkward dialogue, the stunt choreography is overreaching, and the plot barely makes any fucking sense just in terms of logic of what you're asked to do. Going through an "unknown Relay Bermuda Triangle" in ME2 for a "Suicide Mission, with a Dirty Dozen" made complete sense to me. We know too little about the Reapers, they're doing some bad shit by proxy and it's our only lead, so we have to go beyond this relay. Okay? What's the problem exactly. That's a great mystery/action plot like the ME1.
>>750273919why else would you say WRPGs what else are you going to compare them to? ARPGs? just say RPGs then fucking faggot>Bringing JRPGs only makes WRPGs look infinitely worse because nobody expects anything from japsjust shut the fuck up
>>750274525>shooting the Citadel AI that powers on the Catalyst pisses off the Citadel AI and deactivates the Catalyst>wtf why is there a consequence for my actionYou're superimposing your seething over a neutral choice.
>>750273945only after me3 came out people flogged to 2when it came out most people shat on it completely for being extremely shallow and having extremely retarded writing compared to the first game
>>750274642>minimize the strangeness of itNothing minimizes the strangeness like a Shepard that's been dead for 2 years knowing about thermal clips.>Why should that ruin the entire world for me, even if it's silly? It shows the beginning of the end, the game where they stopped caring about details in scifi and started caring about a self-contained, soft reboot, Gears clone>Lazarus Project is dumb, butNo 'buts' or 'ifs'. The idea of adding the concept of CURING DEATH after you die deprived of oxygen, go through atmospheric entry, crash at a bajillion miles per hour against the planet's surface and somehow injecting millions of credits years later makes you be alive again? That's thoroughly retarded. That's spitting in the face of everything ME1 carefully set up with the likes of Noveria. And like Jon Snow in late GoT, you don't even do anything with the concept of Shepard being dead. It takes until five minutes before ME3 ends in Cronos Station for Shepard to even remotely wonder what happened to him, because 3 is always fixing 2's shit.
>>750274546But it's not kino. It's confused, it doesn't know what it's saying with any of the words being uttered or the imagery on display, and it's postulating misplaced things that appear to be dramatic and "final" next to each other interspersed by confusing "vision" flashbacks whose point of perspective isn't even clear, because it's all Mac Walters thinking about a myriad of things he'd ascribe to "stuff that happens in endings of my favorite movies" and no clue how to piece any of it together with a story.
>>750275020I was going to respond but you pretty much summed it up. The other anon also didn't mention the skeleton reapers at all lmao, just a whole lot of yapping to essentially say "I just accepted this terrible writing because it wasn't as egregious as what came after."
>>750275020>Nothing minimizes the strangeness like a Shepard that's been dead for 2 years knowing about thermal clips. It's easy to overloop 1 slipup, and easy to rationalize that Shepard knows what thermal clips are, since they're not new, they're old, and his question should have been "Why are we using thermal clips again?"
>>750271462Bioware died the minute the saudi arabians bought EA. Muslims were never going to allow a studio like Bioware to continue to exist.

>>750275240>Piano song that doesn't even begin to start like Mass Effect's signature Blade-Runner-meets-orchestra musicDiscarded as non-canon.
>>750275242That's entirely subjective and in my opinion, extremely wrong. The original game is the only good one.
>>750275172>1 slipupAnd Jacob's loyalty mission? And Zaeed talking about his old ass rifle?
>>750275276Yes, and the saudis are the only ones left in the room now.
>>750274373Breath of the WIld is also GOTY and simultaneously the worst and least Zelda-like game in the franchise.Inquisition only won GOTY because 2014 was an empty launch year for next-gen consoles and it was the closest thing to a game worth a damn, because the year was literally empty or had shit like "Knack".
Still mad over ME3 so fuck them. Fuck you Bioware, burn in Hell.
>>750271462It's actually crazy how much potential videogame progress has been destroyed by leftnigger psychopathy, it's probably the real reason we went from nonstop innovation every 6 months to this depressing gay plateau into steady decline.
>>750275325I can't tell you what's wrong with Jacob's Loyalty mission, and Zaeed is a bonus-character who most people didn't even see because they just installed the game without connecting to the "Cerberus Network" or whatever.
>>750274661>why else would you say WRPGsBecause the WRPG term refers to a very specific brand of RPGs, the one I'm criticizing.
The problems with the Mass Effect series began with Mass Effect 2. 3 actually returned some of the RPG mechanics from 1. But 2 and 3 both paled in comparison to Mass Effect 1. It's funny to think how ME1 was truely the best game in thr series.
>>750275415Jessie. what the hell are you talking about?
>>750275310KINOINO
>>750275310This is my first time hearing it cause I never played 3, what the fuck is this shit. At one point it sounds like they're doing Funeral March. Jesus christ. Meanwhile some good ending music desu baka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcrDWAuyqtc
>>750273917It's 2 = 1 > 3They're equally good for different reasons, and 3 is a great betrayal of the entire ethos of the Mass Effect innovation by simply removing the Neutral options and removing the dialogue wheel for 70% of the time Shepard is uttering words, and minimizing exploration in favor of non-stop combat.Either you're doing a thoughtless fetch-quest on the Citadel in ME3 or talking to Normandy people with no cinematics and no real purpose (unlike 2 where the companions ARE the story) or you're shooting mindlessly while characters are doing the "Focus, M" radio dialogue because they stopped actually designing missions like a feedback loop between Exploration > Conversation > Combat and just went "Combat" and turned the other two elements into something subservient. You wanted to play Gears of War or Dead Space, be my guest. But this was supposed to be Mass Effect, and ME2 found that balance, and ME1 was at least a really innovative RPG experience. ME3 is just a sad watered down 'AAA' game that was ruined by focus testing and hubris by Casey Hudson and Mac Walters, and the rest of BioWare getting replaced with EA sycophants.

In fact he's just like Javik, and lo and behold the prothean rifle doesn't come with thermal clips just like the Lancer. There's plenty of other examples of shit like this btw, like the Ardat-Yakshi/Samara contradiction debacle people attribute to 3 but was already present in 2. Or how the Collectors make zero sense given they're fucking scared away by one (1) turret in Horizon. Or like the other anon said, the skeleton Reaper.

>>750275498To this day I feel like I am in la-la land every single time I read the>Mass Effect 3 actually is MORE RPG than 2Dude... there's no "inventory screen" in 3. Is Call of Duty also "like an RPG!!" because it has a loadout menu? There's nothing more or less "RPG" about having guns you can upgrade or pick whichever loadout in 3, compared to 2 with class-locked weaponry and the Research tab to upgrade them. Or the Collector Base level where you get the option of a really strong class-specific weapon vs unlocking one of the class-locked weapons you started without. And other than that 3 further streamlined the dialogue system. The average conversation in ME3 either goes entirely without a dialogue wheel while Shepard non-stop shares his world-views with the other character, or it appears and there's ONLY Paragon or Renegade to choose and at best a single Investigate choice. In 1 you had deep dialogue trees with run-on tangents that could eventually persuade an NPC or lock you out of a quest because they hated your guts. In 2 there's cool renegade interactions at every turn and a good discipline of dialogue choices, while avoiding the trap of ME1 where 3 choices sometimes resulted in the same spoken dialogue. In 3 everything completely on-rails even when you're not in a mission. You go to someone and hit "talk" and it auto-plays the entire thing, save for the rare OCCASIONAL dialogue option. It's even less than a Deus Ex dialogue system. So how is 3 "more RPG" than 2? Oh cuz it has a Class and Fitness skill tree, or 6 tiers rather than 4? Yeah that's slightly more RPG but WHAT DOES IT MEAN, when they stripped everything else that 2 retained from ME1's RPG feature-set even FURTHER???3 is the WORST game in the franchise, and it's not even a contest.
>>750275770>They've been isolated in a jungle planet for 20 years. Put two and two together.Yeah and???It's literally a harem where the males fuck all the women. What am I supposed to get that I don't?
>>750275672Yeah, no. Mass Effect 2 threw everything that mattered from ME1 out the window, didn't want to deal with it, fucked off to do its own side shit for an entire game and left whoever came afterwards to clean up its mess. Disconnected crew, disconnected villain, disconnected new faction, disconnected antagonists, disconnected world, retcons galore. Eliminated the Mako, eliminated most every RPG element to the point ME3 restored them, did not deal with most any choice from 1, didn't give a damn about anything or anyone but itself. An absolute disgrace.>You wanted to play Gears of WarLiterally ME2.
>>750276061You cannot be this retarded.
>>750276108ME2 doesn't have the combat rolls or the heavy melee. ME2 was a hybrid that implemented a Gears-lite combat system along with RPG "abilities", while retaining the dialogue system and the "go wherever you want" aspect of the previous game.ME3 is the linear one and it committed 110% to everything being designed exactly like a Gears game.Dont' know what the fuck you're on about, or anyone for that matter. How can anyone say ME2 "is the Gears one" when ME3 is even more Gears than ME2 already was?
>>750276165Apparently I am, cuz I don't see the problem.if a bunch of civilized spacefaring guys and their female crew crashed on a planet and couldn't contact the outside world, they would fuck and repopulate, and that's literally what they did. The father took advantage of the brain-harming fruits and turned women into their sex slaves, and probably also had a few disowned children. Living the hedonistic dream. What's unrealistic about that?
>>7502760013 is objectively more of an RPG than 2 was. It took 2's weak base and refined it with far better skills, skill trees and weapons. Choosing the last three ranks of all your skills means you can basically make a build tailored to your playstyle: weapon or power cooldown? melee or weight? self-reliant or buffing squadmate ammo? Same with the equipment weight, letting you equip any weapon you want but tying weight to power cooldown is easily the best choice they made in that game. You can make an Infiltrator that ditches the sniper for a shotgun paired with Tactical Cloak. Do you want to mod your weapon to do more damage or to weight less so you're under the weight threshold for your Power recharge (yeah it brought back weapon modding from ME1, which ME2 completely cut)? Only in replays do you get just how barebones 2 is compared to the RPG of 1 or the far better hybrid of 3.Don't get me started on the weapons' lack of stats in 2, or their variety, or the far improved Paragon/Renegade mechanic, or how 3 is the one game that actually *bothered* to deal with previous games' choices throughout its entire runtime. Where's my human Council? The new Council? The C-Sec/Spectre decision with Garrus? 3 has a sidequest that checks for:>UNC: Asari Writings>Feros: Data Recovery>Citadel: Rita's Sister>purchasing the Elkoss Combine armory license>keeping Conrad Verner alive through the past 2 gamesWhere was that shit in the second game? Why is ME3, the game with the hardest development compared with ME2, the only one that distinguishes between Wreav and Wrex mechanically? Between having or not recruited/kept alive past squadmates? So much so small dialogue choices 99% of players don't even realize exist had care put into them (pic related, right text box)? I implore you, think for yourself about what ME3 actually ends up mechanically and narratively offering.
>>750276392>Apparently I amYeah I can tell.
Go woke, go bro—err, top the charts
>>750273917TRVKE
>>750276430I couldn't stand the way 3 treated choices to hidden counters to culminate them into "reactive moments" where the player isn't even aware they just missed a huge consequence if they passed the test. The game felt inconsequential to me exactly because I got the easy route where Ashley just trusted me and i didn't have to pull up the persuade wheel, because retards who think games should be taken as "real" made it.If you pass the test, you're supposed to show the dialogue wheel that makes Shepard pass the test with the greenlit options. If you fail the test, you should show the wheel and show the player that there's a greyed out option that can't be triggered in the current playthrough and go "ahhh damn, I didn't have enough points!" or whatever. You already had the fucking "Persuade" system, so why are they double-jeopardying it with hidden "relationship points" that are never highlighted in the game? They did the same with Rannoch and it fucking sucks. The Genophage portion is the only part I like, where they so expertly present the alternative outcome to the dilemma of Krogan population, with the sabotage option, just letting it hang in the air right before the player goes to cure the disease. Then the female krogan asks "what's wrong" and there's a fakeout option to keep it hidden or reveal it, interrupted by the car crashing. Then you play the level and it comes up again, guilt-tripping you in case you hadn't intended to say it the first time. And finally, Mordin or Padok will make you say it if you've been keeping it hidden, and stop you if they believe in the future with Wrex, or present the alternative if it's Wreav, and Mordin is more pragmatic than Padok, to know this won't be good in the future. That's some fucking dialogue options dude. The rest is shit.
>me3 ending was the only bad thingbot brain
>>750273421Blame the players/fanbase. Ever since BG2 put in romances, people started to expect it in all rpgs going forward as though it were a crucial key mechanic.
>>750276430>3 has a sidequest that checks for:3 BEAN-COUNTS every choice in the series. It didn't ask itself "How can we make a great story out of these variables?" they went "How can we POSSIBLY address ALL OF THESE???"and then they did it by checking them off.3 would've been a better game if there were things they DIDN'T check off, if they couldn't do it properly. And it would've been a better game if they knew which choices in the first 2 games were the ones that were always set to be the "big promises" to the player. The fate of the Council, electing Anderson vs Udina, the Rachni Queen being set free and owing us a "favor" or whatever, or the Collector Base being in Cerberus's hands or not. That's not a lot. That's like 4-5 choices that should've been the alpha omega of the whole experience.Who gives a fuck about ME1 Matriarch "COLLECTIBLES"???? I think ME3 actually addressed that plot ticket with more dialogue than the fucking Collector Base.
>>750274831i miss harbingerpostingwhat a stupid fucking character
>>750275415I almost agree with you, but let's be honest, we'd be feelling the stagnation no matter what by now, because where the fuck do you even go now that games essentially already look perfect and have the same, if not more, of the blockbusterness of movies?I can tell the difference between the PS4 titles and PS5 titles but I don't care for it. And I'm sick of everything being hyperrealism slop. And now that everything looks more realistic people begin to lose their minds over women looking idealistic and sexy instead of having triangular titties. They wanna take away our hobby because they realized men would actually rather sit and get erect to video game ladies than date someone after they hit the wall.
>>750276768>the player isn't even aware they just missed a huge consequenceThat's cool though. Some choices are incredibly telegraphed like telling Wrex and Mordin about the sabotage or not, others are hidden. Ironically ME3 has shitloads of the latter to the point most people don't notice them and end up believing the game reacts to your save far less than it actually does. My point ultimately is this:Narratively, ME2 doesn't really deal with any of ME1's choices. Most everything it introduces is new to itself, and what few things are called back to are often done in simple e-mails an intern could've written in an afternoon. Tali will treat you the same all game long no matter if you helped her in ME1 or not. Garrus will treat you the same all game long no matter if you even recruited him and was present in ME1 or not. The new council, or the possible existance of a human one, isn't addressed. Having done the Cerberus quest chain in ME1 doesn't matter. Having your old Spectre license or not doesn't matter. Having Wrex or Wreav doesn't really change a thing, it doesn't lock you from certain content, it's effectively the same just with slightly different wording. You can play ME2 without importing an ME1 save and you're getting 90% the exact same experience, minus some 15 emails or so. Comparatively, you try and play a non-imported ME3 savefile and it's a completely different fucking game. Half the characters are dead, every major narrative arc in the game wildly changes because of it, other characters don't use as familiar a language with Shepard as they otherwise would've, there's close to no callbacks in audio or small scripted scenes in the Normandy. It feels like playing in a doomed, depressing timeline. Did you know that if you get Chakwas killed in ME2 and recruit Dr. Michel instead, she can bring up Armistan Banes, who was otherwise forgotten about ever since her quest in ME1 and who ties with Cerberus?Mechanically, it's just a better ME2.
>>750273764>2012>Play the Kingdoms of Amalur demo>Love this game>Cross promotion, you get this sick ass Shepard armor if you play the Mass Effect 3 demo>Play it>Wow the multiplayer is pretty sick too>Play the campaign mission >It's alright, but I have no clue what's going on>Decide to pick up Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 before playing Mass Effect 3 to get a feel for the universe>Fall deeply into in the world building of ME1>Do literally everything, every decision, multiple playthroughs before putting it down and moving onto ME2>Really enjoy ME2, but I keep wondering when the game opens up and let's me do more nonlinear stuff>Reach the suicide mission>Oh... okay>Still enjoy ME2, 100% this bad boy as well before moving onto ME3>Literally forgot ME3 even had multiplayer, just wanna finish this journey with all the friends I've made along the way>We all know how this ends, but I still cherish the journey getting thereMe becoming a huge Mass Effect fan was just one big coincidence. Nobody ever talked about this series with me. I knew literally nothing going in. "Mass Effect" was just a name to me. I didn't even know it was the same company that made Kotor until I played it. ME1 may be clunky by todays standard, but that game has some of the absolute best world building that I've ever experienced in my life. I used to watch a lot of History Channel, so hearing Neil Ross narrate a lot of the Codex entries only made this universe feel more alive to me. Even knowing where Mass Effect 3 and BioWare as whole ended up, I'm still glad that I got to experience these games. All it took was some cheesy armor from a completely different game to introduce it to me. I guess cross promotions do actually work.
>>750276927>the Collector Base being in Cerberus's hands or notnta but Bioware saw in the player statistics that literally 99% of players destroyed it and realized it wouldn't make sense with the EA time limit and resources they had to waste time building that up vs something more crucial. That makes sense
>>750277584Funny, since i remember Kingdom of Amalur from also playing the demo and going>Why is there a dialogue tree if it's not voiced?>Holy fuck this is just WoW but single player>No way RPG nerds want to play this like this right?>EA using their BioWare patents to the fullest>Holy kekking boring, I'll replay Mass Effect 1!>Have a blast>Time for Mass Effect 2>God that was also good.>Can't wait for Mass Effect 3It comes out>What... the fuck.... was that.Anyway, the people that made KoA are unironically the same team that made Mass Effect Andromeda. I shit you not.
>>750277584>Mass Effect gets Dragon Age armor>Dragon Age gets Dead Space armor>Dead Space gets Mass Effect armor>Mass Effect and Kingdoms of Amalur both get each other's armors>...>Mass Effect doesn't get a Dead Space armorCome one EA, it's the two sci-fi franchises, fucking hell. How cool would it have been to be able to play ME3 with Isaac's engineering suit, or Carver's military armor? It even had the N7 colors already.
>>750277702They also said that "only 12% of our players interact with the dialogue trees" as a basis for cutting as many dialogue options as possible for ME3.This is because they are FOCUS TESTING. They use a statistic that's not actually representative of their total playerbase, and check how they play their games based on superficial classifiers of what type of audience they are. But here is the truth. Focus testers are people who have it as a side-job. They sign up so they can see products before they're released and talk to developers. Then they get invited and the whole time they know they're in a "product testing environment". And more often than not a big publisher will use groups to doctor results that confirm their own bias.So these details are useless.
>>750273220>>750271836>>750271462>>750271692MEA sold well or at least the initial day one/pre order sales were good. Like ME3 shat the bed, but ME3 wasn't what killed bioware. it was anthem, andromeda and veilguard
>>750277984Couldn't care less about the armors. Shepard looked fine in ME1 and it should've just stayed the same look in the whole series.
>>750277893>Anyway, the people that made KoA are unironically the same team that made Mass Effect Andromeda. I shit you not. That's wild. I still haven't played Andromeda yet.
>>750278051No, it's because EA forced them to rush 3 like a motherfucker.>"ME3 was originally announced to release in the holiday season of 2011. By March 2011, the game production was behind schedule and the leads were convinced they couldn't have it ready for that release. Ultimately, Bioware's General Manager Aaron Flynn got the release pushed back to March 2012, through a direct phone call with the head of EA's games label. Even with that, production was still behind schedule and a significant amount of content was cut from the game"
>>750278112I mean I certainly agree he peaked with the Heavy Onyx from 1, just that a Dead Space armor would've certainly seen more use from the playerbase than pic related
>>750275498>3 actually returned some of the RPG mechanicsthe RPG mechanics were ass. 2 was right to simplify them. they brought them back for MEA and MEA was ass.
>>750278109ME3 was what killed BioWare but not commercially, no. It had all the momentum of ME2 and brand-reputation to make it a hit no matter what they had done, and word of mouth still said that the "game is great, but the ending sucks" and for most, including myself, I had to see it for myself before I believed it. It was around 2-3 days after launch that it started getting review-bombed on Metacritic and the release was delayed to March 9 in the EU, so by the time I unlocked my preorder on EA's computer app, I started seeing this strange outcry of users just writing>ENDING IS AWFUL>ENDING GARBAGE>WTF WAS THAT ENDING>THE CHOICES DONT MATTER>GOOD GAME, AWFUL ENDINGand so on and I was like "there is NO WAY they actually screwed it up. Right?""These people sound stupid."So I play it, and I have issues even just with the story. I get super invested cuz it is the last game after all, and I love the characters, and feel like Miranda is my real GF etc.But the whole time there's just such a "aaah, idk... something's missing this time" feeling about ME3. The writing is worse. I can't believe people never bring this up. The writing, just the prose of it, is so clearly worse for much of ME3. You can just tell that writers quit the project without knowing that there were different writers or who they were. When I read that because the writing was bothering me, I just went "Oh crap, that explains it..." and this is already before I see the ending.I see the ending and I don't go into an outburst, but I do feel like that was an even worse catastrophe placed as the tip of the iceberg on everything else that already made me literally hit my fist in the desk sometimes just from reacting to the writing being utter shit at times. And then it dawns on you that this is it. There's nothing else coming out later, except "DLC" that has to be prequel to whatever the fuck that ending was. And that was their shot at this, and now it's wasted.
>>750278501All of this is to say that ME3 isn't where BioWare died but it kinda is.It's where people realized "this isn't the company I thought it was, and their games are not as good as I believed they were previously."That colors the expectations people started having even before Anthem came out and, to the surprise of no previous BioWare consumer, was a total misfire and also a poorly made AAA game.

>>750278445Coincidence does not equal causation, else Veilguard would've sold more than Baldur's Gate 3.
>>750277480wait you can get Michel as your doctor in 3?????
>>750278659Pretty much. BG3 was only popular due to the hype of "It's Baldur's Gate!" and coincidence. A special concoction of vaporware hype with not recognizing that the game you're playing is primarily enjoyed by the transgender community and kink fetishists.I think by now most people have come to the realization that there's almost nothing that's more woke than Baldur's Gate 3, but at the time it took a while before people noticed that every trasngender discord user seemed to be in every conversation about it.
>>750278843Yes. You just go over and tell her to join you instead of talking to Chakwas in the hospital. This sadly does not result in Garrus having sex with her.
>>750277984I would absolutely wear Dead Space armor in Mass Effect if I could. It actually doesn't make any sense that they never did that now that you bring it up.>>750278112Another head scratcher is why they never added the original N7 armor in ME2 or ME3 as an unlockable (or paid DLC but fuck that shit). I mean, come on, Conrad Verner is wearing it in ME2. You already had the model, at least for that game. It doesn't have to be canon, I just wanna wear it for fun because it still looks good.
>>750278918>ChakwasDr. Chocolates
>>750278843Technically you can get her in runs where Chakwas is alive, you just have to turn Dr. Chocolates down first. Also she gives you a different medigel upgrade: Chakwas' is a chance at first aid not consuming medigel, Michel's is a 9th medigel capacity upgrade which carries into NG+. The cool thing is that Chakwas is the one crew member that survives in a non-imported ME3 world state, so Michel's addition was there solely for players that waited after the IFF, got their crew killed, waited even *more*, got Chakwas killed, then imported that save into ME3. Ludo.
>>750278223>No, it's because EA forced them to rush 3 like a motherfucker. While this is true, I think going by their output later on with games that took them literally 9 years to make, being rushed was not actually the problem with ME3. The writing is shit because it's led by Mac Walters who didn't actually know how to be a Lead Writer let alone an actual story writer. His input on ME2 is also near non-existent despite sharing Lead Writer cred with Drew. They said in the time after Drew had left, Mac just sat in meetings with non-writers and people in the writer's pit couldn't get ahold of him. Luke Kristjansson was the interim Lead Writer instead, and Mac just gave "idea man" ideas very rarely. Then he wrote the synopsis for ME3 (which was even worse in the first draft) where Cerberus has "aligned with the Reapers", and Kaidan and Ashley have a new character codenamed "THE PARTNER" who they flirt with, and then Shepard is made to look as if he murders "THE PARTNER" in the Javik level, and Kai Leng "secretly recorded it" and then he shows up on Thessia and shows this video to Ashley or Kaidan, and you have to decide if they, or Liara dies when Kai Leng tricks you and the floor starts COLLAPSING...Like it was even worse somehow. And the whole of ME3 was literally the other writers just pushing back on his shit ideas until he let them rewrite it, and that's probably one of the reasons why he isolated himself with Casey Hudson to write the ending without feedback, because he felt belittled and felt like he wasn't allowed to be the titular Lead Writer despite being given the clout by the company because he was senior enough.Any problem with the story past the first game is squarely Mac Walters's fault. He is a complete hitchhiker and a hack. He can't actually write, and it shows big-time on ME3 which is only close to being a good game, because better writers were given the opportunity to either write parts of the game as Leads, or override Mac.
>>750278501>in the EUwhat's it like being a third worlder?>>750278659nah, the >this does 3% more damage when you finger your asshole shit is gay and retarded. ME1 had the best dialogue system and mission design in terms of being able to do missions in multiple different ways where as 2 and 3 were 2 linear. but 2 did the best job at stream lining all of the tedious level up and gear shit>>750278845nah, BG3 was super popular because no one played past act 1. Like only 1 in 3 people got to act 2 or 3 or something. all of the shit in act 1/the early access was super well polished and reactive and the map was really well designed so it felt like you were organically stumbling on things, missing random things and wandering out of the story by accident. The problems don't start showing up until act 2. Act 2 is basically just a boss rush and the whole story and game runs out of steam right before the final act 2 boss fight. also the story makes no sense in act 2 due to the rewrites but the boss rush stuff and environment are cool.the only woke faggot shit in act 1 and 2 are the companions being player sexual and some blink and you'll miss it NPC dialogue with the gnomes that a lot of people miss because they don't pick up on the names or aren't paying attention. a lot of people just forgive the playersexual shit even though they shouldn't. halsin doesn't become a total fag until act 3. both trannies are in act 3. nearly every homo is in act 3. the only main lgbt characters in acts 1 and 2 are 2 pairs of lesbians, one of which isn't even really 2 dykes because one of the 2 girls is bi and asks you to fuck both of them
>>750279331>His input on ME2 is also near non-existentThen what's the excuse for ME2 being written like shit.
>>750279459Drew Karpyshyn writing the first drafts of half baked ideas and quitting, Mac being absentee, and the other writer just trying to get the parts done that made sense. It's unfinished, but personally I like a bunch of half baked ideas that made sense more than I liked 3 having an "epic scope" with a plot that barely felt coherent to me.
>>750279369>2 did the best job at stream liningToo much streamlining though. Not being allowed to equip whatever weapon I want, even if it goes against my class, is balls. Shepard picking one up randomly in the Collector Ship for no reason, is balls. In ME1 I would suck if I try to snipe as a Vanguard, just like I would suck at two-handed in DAO if I built my Warrior to use sword and board, but the option sure is there.
>>7502796743 is a more streamlined game than Mass Effect 2 is. If you don't think this is true, please play them again and compare.
>>750279709I don't think this is true.
>>750271462the seeds of shit were planted during the first mass effect's development, never adressed and left to get worse
>>750279459the ME1 writer didn't write all of ME1. ME1 has like one credited writer and ME2 has 2 credited writers. you can kind of see the intended plot for ME1-2-3 and how they drop a lot of that shit in 2 and 3 >>750279674>Not being allowed to equip whatever weapon I want, even if it goes against my class, is balls.you couldn't use random guns in ME1 unless you intentionally went out and shot a bunch of gas bags as a soldier to get those chevos
>>750279758K, but it is. 3 is believed to be less streamlined because it has more blocks in the skill tree to put in. But literally everything else in the game is extremely simplified compared to 2, so I've felt like a crazy man since 2012 when everyone keeps yapping that "3 brought back more RPG mechanics". Like what game did you even play, dude?I think it's a psych thing where because ME2 is so obviously different from 1 in a streamlined sense, people overreact to how un-RPG 2 is, and then 3 bringing back 1 thing that 2 lacked makes people think 3 is suddenly a "huge improvement".But I don't understand how people can just overlook how few dialogue options you actually get in ME3, or how awfully on-rails every dialogue tree is.
>>750280070>>750279758
>>750280054I know that, but the Lead Writer did decide what the main story is, even if, for example, Drew didn't end up writing the scene where Sovereign talks to Shepard. He still decided that Virmire is the mission where a nuke has to be set up, in a facility that uses the Krogan clones and then we learn that Saren is puppetted by the Reaper who reveals itself to Shepard. And Mac had the same role on ME3. He said his synopsis is around 2-3 pages long. And he'd do lots of presentations to non-writers and figure out the structure with them, because it's their way of finding out how many missions the game can have and which ones can be allocated the largest budget, and how to schedule the actors and all that.
>>750279369ME2 was really the best of both worlds. It cut out the fluff of 1, but wasn’t quite as dumbed down as 3. It’s arguably BioWare’s best game as a studio.
>>750274373Their worst game to that date getting an award and selling the most is partially what killed Bioware thoughever
>>750280195Exactly how I see it, and my disappointment with 3 other than not digging the writing in general, is that I just for some reason assumed back on ME2 that "they're figuring out how to make an actual good game, with a smaller and more managable scope" and thought that meant "Okay, now they've made the good game, so now they can take the good game and make it more like the open world first one, but retain the polish of the good stuff" but 3 was just more of 2 but streamlined even further.
>>750274140people today are quick to forget that dragongay failguard was BioWare in its modern form. full of fags and theythems and trannies trying to "dunk on the chuds" and shitting out turdgames as a result. hell barely anyone on /v/ today is old enough to remember what the TORtanic was or that it was also BioWare.
>>750271836Inquisition included
2 cut this beauty and I never forgave it for it
>>750271462if you replay ME3, you'll quickly see that the ending simply covered for many, many problems that game hadand if you replay ME2, you'll see that many of the story problems started in that game
>>750271462I am so fucking glad that they are finally gone. When the end credits started to roll I had the worst feeling I have ever had after finishing a game.I'll never forgive them.FUCK BIOWAREFUCK EA
>>750271462Bioware was a shitshow run by retards that ran off all the talent. They were never making it past the early 2010s intact.
>>750271836>After inquisition Are you shitting me?
>>750280248No. DA:I has very little to do with them roping themselves with their next projects. It was more that EA was always going to shift to bullshit and force BioWare along with itself.Like, had ME3 had Drew Karpyshyn on it and Chris L'Etoile and they somehow actually made a perfect 10/10 game with an incredible story and ending, while also upping the action, while also having more deep and heady quests like the first game all at the same time, they would've still gotten roped by EA after 2014, because they'd be forced into making Live Service slop. The difference then is that if they had retained a lot of their talent and the perception was still "everything BioWare makes is amazing", I think they would've taken on the challenge of making a new IP, actually made a universe that's as good, or better than Destiny, and then made a slightly sketchy but ultimately superior game to Destiny, and people going "holy shit BioWare are the kings."It wouldn't have been Anthem exactly, because Anthem is both them making a rudderless IP ("Imagine a world where nothing was made yet, but the constructs left by gods allow you to make ANYTHING", I mean come on, this is not a fucking concept unless you're an idiot.) and there would've been people around like "This isn't good enough, we have to make it better!" until it was good.Anthem however was a project made by a BioWare that was already in flux. Old talent having already left and Casey Hudson getting cold feet on top of feeling beaten over the head about being in charge of ME3's ending, and the founders quitting because SWTOR led to 200 layoffs and then ME3's brouhaha probably made them wanna ack themselves inside the corporate environment. They would've always fucked up eventually, because that's the rule of corporations, but look around you. The industry still has plenty of studios who never had the "Mass Effect 3" moment despite being in a shitty corpo environment.
>>750274140I still can't believe Tali and Solas came from the guy that shat out Traash. What a downfall
>>750280248Even Cisquisition would've been forgiven if they didn't pull shit like I'M ONLY HUMAN or fucking Anthem after it.
>>750280389IMO, 2 is the best one because it focuses on the characters rather than the generic “ancient evil awakens” plot. BioWare’s strength was writing characters. Their plots were always generic and uninspired.
>>750280539*smooch*
>>750278586Sometimes the slop is alright
>>750280765>it focuses on the characters rather than the generic “ancient evil awakens” plot1 did both doe. Even 3 has the characters actually interact in the Normandy instead of each living in their own self-contained bubbles outside of the Jack/Miranda and Tali/Legion outbursts.
>>7502756722 is the worst of the 3 what are you smoking? Just give me the game with neither a good story or decent combat. Yeah no, 2 is the worst game in the trilogy.
>>750280765>BioWare’s strength was writing characters. Their plots were always generic and uninspired. Then why is my favorite thing they ever did Mass Effect 1's plot, and not the fucking "characters" who at this point don't even resonate in the slightest with me except Garrus, anymore, but I can still endlessly replay the first game because it gets me into that mood of "beginnings of a great saga" and feel the weight of the whole Ilos moment near the end?The characters aren't even good. They don't develop in the games they star in, and they don't really have an arc that runs through the trilogy. They have a "personality", and then they're made to develop off-screen between the games, where the writers could avoid writing the actual moments of realization or change and instead have them show up like "Hi, I'm the king of the country this time, because working with you Player1 made me super duper inspired, and stop being such a brooding companion!"Like it's shit. The characters in BioWare games are shit.
>>750271462you need to add that DA2 didn't happen or was something very different, that primed everyone's mood to ME3 in a bad light.
>>750280539Bitch...
>>750280374You can thank all the negative IQ retards who couldn't figure out its controls.
>>750271836Inquisition sold about the same as DA2 did but with three additional ports that DA2 wasn't sold on. People did not like that game.
>>750280854>1 did both doe. Even 3 has the characters actually interact in the Normandy instead of each living in their own self-contained bubbles outside of the Jack/Miranda and Tali/Legion outbursts. The squad dynamics of 2 with the "2 antitheticals make a bitchfight that you have to stop" and the strong caricature of each person in the rogue gallery trumps having memberberries having cuddly ambient conversations that Shepard gets to listen in on as you walk through the ship. That whole thing is yet another aspect of "woke", and it is literally the thing they're making fun of in "Focus, M" and stuff. It's like the writers are having a party nobody wants to join.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMh_APo2Xss
>>750273764It goes back to Jade Empire. Even Mass Effect one a lot of complaining was there.
>>750280854True, but ME2 is a much more complete feeling game. A lot of 3 is condensed and lacking in as much content as 1 or 2. Going down to 6 party members from 2’s 12 was a downgrade considering how all the party members except Jacob are decently fleshed out.
>>750280765>the generic “ancient evil awakens” plotPeople often quote the Virmire twist about what Sovereign is, or Vigil's conversation, as peaks in ME's narrative as a whole. Those are all plot, baby. ME2 sidelining the Reapers and ME3 not nailing down their reasonings until Leviathan doesn't mean ME1's actual main plot wasn't very well executed and left fans wanting more from the Reapers.
ALL of Me3 was shit, not just the ending
>>750280765>because it focuses on the characters rather than the generic “ancient evil awakens” plotThat plot and everything around it sucked in ME2 because the writers lost the lead writer that made 1 what it was, doing basically a soft reset and going on what's effectively a filler episode. That's the whole 2nd game dedicated to NOT forwarding the main plot in any meaningful way, no wonder you think the character stories are better. But even there, it's nothing phenomenal, just better than the filler-tier main story. Imagine if in the Lord of the Rings the Two Towers nothing happened involving the ring either and you could basically skip from book 1 to book 3 and only miss out on Gimli and Legolas solving their daddy issues, that's why ME2 can never be the best of the 3, since at least ME3 had decent combat. Personally I rank them 1>3>2.
>>750281097Exactly. It was literally the thing that made word of mouth so positive. Characters and sex is too, just like with Fire Emblem Three Houses, but it's such a mistake to think that one can exist without the other and somehow be a great game.Plot comes from character, and characters are needed to make a plot less than boring. You can't divorce them or intentionally shit out a thoughtless plot just to have characters "doing stuff".... which is basically what ME3 is as far as I'm concerned.
>>750281034Yea me2 had a sweet ending. Missions and team was good. Me3 was good but felt shorter for some reason. Maybe cause most missions were nustcreaperscdestruping everything but that makes sense I suppose as the final game. The lack of a good final mission didn't help but it was still a solid game with the citadel dlc. Normandy also felt unfinished in me3 and a downgrade. It had some really good moments like mars and horizon and follow up with Jack. I would rate me2 then me1 then 3 but it's close between 1 and 3. The gameplay in 3 is better but too easy at times
ME3 introduced loot boxes and killed gaming
>>7502811422 introduces Harbinger, Mordin and TIM, and also has Legion to lay the seeds of how the Quarian and Geth conflict resolution will play out. It’s definitely the least plot focused game in the series, but I think it’s better for that reason, since I never found BioWare plots terribly interesting, and the universe and the people who live within it was more interesting that stopping a race of sentient doomsday weapons.
>>750280765that's precisely the problem with ME2, it did nothing to progress the main story and instead left ME3 to resolve plot threads all the way from ME1
>>750271692You can leave off the "since ME3" and the post would be far more true than it currently isBioware never made a good gameS
We were calling bioware fanboys "Biodrones" going all the way back to Dragon Age 2.
>>750271462Yep.This man killed Bioware. He sowed the seeds for destruction with ME3. The studio never recovered from the fallout and backlash. Even the doctor founders were so fed up that they left.
Who's the strongest character commander Shepard can beat? Master chief?
>>750281142So, this is awkward, but... I think the PLOT of Mass Effect 2 is great, and I don't think it's filler. The Collectors are not "random new enemies". Yeah they're a new species, but they're just the Reapers fighting Shepard for an entire game by proxy, while the player knows who and what the Reapers are, unlike the first game where the Geth are mistaken as the main enemy with Saren, until you realize that both of those are also just the Reapers fighting you by proxy. In that sense ME2 felt like a continued "war" between the Reapers and Shepard to me, with Cerberus added into the mix as a mysterious new plot element who has a "Friend or Foe" dichotomy, which the game literally foreshadows with the Reaper IFF and culminates in that final choice to give or destroy the Collector Base to your "friend or foe", while championing the team you built up.ME2 is a sort of darker but ironically feel-good middle chapter in which Shepard goes solo to prove his worth without the backing of a political Humanity/Citadel project, and come out ballin anyway, as he ruins yet another Reaper plot, while they're still "inevitably going to invade", and then 3 is the story of the invasion.I hate 3 though, because I think they did something wrong by making it a "War Story" and trying to make it sorta like a "Mass Effect: Saving Private Ryan" or "Mass Effect: Schindler's List" or a "Mass Effect: Der Untergang." type of vibe. I can see "Independence Day" and "War of the Worlds" being positive inspirations, but the literal World War 2 analogues in the game can go fuck right off.The Crucible isn't half bad either. it's taken from the movie/book Contact, but the implementation was not well written, and should've been handled better than Liara just showing up like "We found a device that might kill all the Reapers!"There's plenty of time in ME3. It's not as if Luke Skywalker knew how to defeat Darth Vader in Empire either. He just said "I believe there's still good in him."
>>750278845It helped that the game wasn't completely awful. Sadly, comparison to most of the shit out there, it was veritable manna bestowed upon poor gamers famished by rather mediocre pickings until then.
>>750280374>Hated the Mako at first>Loved the Mako by the end of the game>Hated the Mako through subsequent playthroughs>Love the Mako enough to defend her from Mako hatersI have an actual Love/Hate relationship with the Mako. Just another thing they could have improved upon in later games instead of just outright dropping it entirely. She was a beautiful vehicle.
>>750281531Another classic>George Lucas ruined Star WarsHe created it, dude. It wouldn't have ever started without him.>Neil Druckmann should be removed before Last of Us 3You don't know what you're talking about dude. And I say that fully agreeing that the prequels are mostly awful, and TLOU2 was one of the most aggressively obnoxiously woke/jewish games I have ever forced myself to finish. But you can't make one without Druckmann, and you can make a Mass Effect without Casey, but on some level he has to at least sign off on it, because he earned it. He had a huge part in why ME1 turned out how it did, and ME2. unfortunately also ME3 but I actually believe Casey had a lot less creative involvement with 3 throughout the project than before. He became more and more just a technical manager guy, as the ideas of other writers started overtaking where he thought his own series was headed.
>>750281535By sidelining the Reapers in the 2nd game, they could spend more time focusing on the world, factions and characters, which was the more interesting part of the game’s universe anyway. I feel like non-Shepard focus ME games should have focused on smaller stakes political conflicts. Plus, the whole premise of gearing up for a suicide mission where you party members could actually die is kino.
>>750281610Tbf, they were improving them each game and also started 3 thinking it should have it again, before seeing the schedule and cutting it early.Same with elevators. They actually had ME1-style elevators in Mass Effect 3 until the final weeks of development but saw that load times really hadn't improved on 360 or PS3 (PS3 obviously making it even worse) and decided it had to be loading screens again. So in the final game an old-school elevator prefab is stuck in the Deck 5 floor that looks like the one you enter in ME2, but it would've gone up and down like in ME1 without load screens. The Citadel was supposed to have them too.
>>750276001>>750276430>>750276768I recall barely any dialogue choices until that god awful DLC to "fix" the ending (it made it worse).like trying to explain why shit tastes awful I don't need you to explain why the shit tastes awful I need you to give me something that isn't shit. they shambled around for 15 years and now they're dead and I couldn't give a fuck less beyond this post. this is the last time I will ever talk about these losers and their retarded gay space opera that could have been good if they weren't so god damn stupid.
>>750281764...but all of that is done in the side content. Meaning there's no reason to have "muh cool interactions" and a main plot that's not dogshit and derails the entire trilogy.
>>750281253>but felt shorter for some reasonME3 doesn't have nearly as many missions as ME2 and ME2's DLC was pretty replayable. idk how many people played the ME3 DLC more than once
>>750281764So to me they didn't side-line them in 2, because they make it abundantly clear that the Collectors are the Reapers by proxy and they don't make it super hard to guess that the "Collector General Harbinger" is just the Reaper directly using these bugmen as pawns against Shepard. In that sense ME2 felt more like you're fighting the Reapers than 1 did, in terms of escalation, and it was literally just BioWare finding a solution to fight the Reapers in the absence of an invasion.I think also for escalation reasons they wanted to avoid having a "big huge battle" like the end of ME2 in Act 2, because they knew ME3 was gonna be the game with the next "Big huge battle", and Suicide Mission ends up feeling just as epic as Battle For the Citadel, and moreso due to all the dynamics of it. And 3's final battle ironically feels like the weakest of the 3 because they gave up on designing it in any capacity, and made all the soldiers and fleets feel fucking anonymous. The music by Sam Hulick lacks the energy of a Jack Wall soundtrack, and feels almost farcical to me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68MKak8ohtECompare this theme tohttps://youtu.be/NDpgce8SrgE&t=81Orhttps://youtu.be/xOGO4uMIB9A&t=22
>>750280765>>750281374>muh main storyME2 had a bunch of plot threads like the dark matter shit that were dropped in ME3
>>750281839Because then you don’t have this looming threat disrupting your engagement with the universe. Look at how in ME3, there was barely any time to anything non-Reaper related because the whole galaxy was in flames and the Citadel had become a refugee centre.
>>750281010>The squad dynamics of 2Literally the two examples I mentioned, out of 12. There's nothing there. It's the same "edgy daddy issues" archetypes copypasted a dozen times. Good, but not this revolutionary mindblowing thing some people pretend compared to 1 and 3.
>>750281226>exactly>goes on to effectively defend ME2You sneaky bitch.
>>750281371>2 introduces Harbinger and TIM2 introduces two of the worst characters in the franchise, yes.
>>750271462Were they ever actually all that good? I never played Neverwinter Nights nor did I play the Baldur's Gate games. I did however play KOTOR but then I did not play that chinese Xbox RPG they made. Then I play ME1 and ME2.For some reason I had this idea in my mind they were this legendary company back in the day and could do no wrong. I am not sure why I would think like this other than I was probably just a young dumb teen at the time that bought into their hype as a company despite me not even really playing most of their shit. Sometimes its actually good to be older because then you can reflect on things more properly and realize how dumb a lot of your old ways of thinking were. For me at least I never had any reason to pump them up so much in my own mind since I barely played their games. Even ME2 was quite flawed considering how much it deviated from where ME1 was seemingly going. This is a dev company I wish was a whole lot better and actually matched their legendary early reputation. But I am not even sure they ever deserved it in the first place. They sure as shit didn't deserve it even during ME peak popularity let alone in the past decade with shit like the Dragon Age game.
>>750282182So what. It gives you a moment of Shepard being the squad leader and underscores the team basically being a bunch of strangers. You're working off the grid in 2, and it's more edgy. It's meant to be that way, and less of an orderly mission than the first game, because you're literally working sort of unofficially and without being part of a political pet project to help humans in their quest for political relevance. This aspect of 2 is exactly great because it shows Shepard having to figure out things alone, and then at the end of the game it's like "yeah, we are a team," and you either reward Illusive Man for setting it up or tell him to stuff it, and then you get reaffirmation that Shepard is this leader figure who can get people working together, and then that's taken to a whole other level in 3.I didn't like how you became a Mary Sue in Mass Effect 3 though. I don't mind people going "Aaah it's Shepard! Hero of the Citadel" in 2 so much because why wouldn't they, if you're on the Citadel, and that's where everybody remembers that "A human fought the big Geth/Reaper thing and they gave him medals" or whatever. But in 3 when I'm curing the Genophage and Eve goes "Who's with me!" and Shepard has to fucking put himself into the center among Krogan and go "I AM." I wanted to punch my own character.
>>750282010By “side-lined” I basically meant that they’re a more backseat/operating from the shadows kind of villain as opposed to one more overt. You don’t even meet Harbinger until ME3, since he’s just possessing the Collector General in 2 and he only directly talks to Shepard once. The Reapers in 2 are like Palpatine in the Prequel trilogy: a puppetmaster villain rather than a direct threat.
>>750282394Illusive Man is the best character other than Saren or Sovereign, in the Franchise. Shame about what happened to his writing in ME3.
>>750281535>I think the PLOT of Mass Effect 2 is greatIt retcons the council from ME1. It kills Shepard and introduces the concept of curing death into the universe. It forces you to work for the terrorists that could've possibly psychologically scarred you for life because the game wants you to go down one very clear scripted path. Shepard and the entire rest of the crew act like it's fine for the Suicide Mission to be suicidal as if they didn't know and didn't care the fucking Reapers are coming next. Cerberus sprays their secret bases, shuttles, armors and fucking regular clothes with their terrorist logo. TIM thinks it's a great idea to send his nº1 asset into a Collector trap and not tell him because somehow that would've made him enter this hostile ship armed and wary instead of the way he did it, which was... armed and wary ("hur durr I'm concerned that if Shepard knows he’s walking into a trap he’ll somehow telegraph that he knows, and then the Collectors will know that he knows, which will make Shepard’s raid… less useful somehow? Thank fuck the Collectors knew that I, the great TIM, would be listening in on the turian's broadcast and I'd intercept their codes and that I'd specifically dispatch Shepard as soon as I heard the fake report for their ship to be still by the time Shepard got there"). The Collectors are built up as this big deal when ONE FUCKING RANDOM TURRET has them running scared then the game has the fucking gall to imply "they're going to attack Earth" as if they'd make it past Arcturus Station. Arrival advances the plot more in half an hour than the entirety of ME2's main quest in 35.
>>750282415Why does this read like a bot post, that just figured out how to fake Mass Effect discussion?
>>750280765>BioWare’s strength was writing charactersThen they had no strengths at all because half the characters in 2 are comedically underbaked
>>750282109>then you don’t have this looming threat disrupting your engagement with the universeDon't make a direct sequel to a game with a looming threat then, nigger. Literally not an argument, you don't get to have your cake and eat it too at the cost of fucking over another two games because you're egotist.
>>750282439I can see what you mean, and yeah I can vaguely picture a "larger" ME2 where we not only unmask Harbinger before the game ends and clear off the Collectors maybe halfway through the game, or right before Act 3, and then there's like a "Final act" in the story where we take it to some Dark Space Corridor, or there's a secret Anti-Reaper Weapon we discover but then when you go there, Harbinger actually arrives and you have to fight it, but then all the Mercs and old friends in the Terminus Systems come together and it's like the inverse of ME1's ending, and tops off 2 showing that Shepard now also did a lot of "shepherding" outside the Citadel, and maybe ends up betrayed by Illusive Man before the game ends, so we can start 3 from a more logical POV as to why he's suddenly evil and everything. If this was a JRPG it would've had that encore, and then it wouldn't even feel like Encore, just the natural last chapters of a book.Either way I'm fine with it, but given where ME2 landed itself, I can't understand most of the decisions they took with ME3, including Illusive Man being the "villain" before the game even sets him up as a bad guy properly, and so many other things that just felt phony to me.
>>750281531Reminder that Anthem was his idea as well and he was the one that sold the pitch to EA.
>>750282010But you learn absolutely fucking nothing. ME1 works its ass off to establish the universe as a whole and the Reapers as a threat, and the promise of being able to stop them. What do you find out in ME2 that'll help you stop the Reapers? Do you investigate geth or prothean bases to find info on a Catalyst-like weapon? Do you investigate the Citadel's skeleton now that you know it's a Reaper station? Do you do fucking *anything* outside of being passive, fighting some bugmen redshirts in chest high walls, and accomplishing nothing to the point it's the third game the one that needs to both introduce and build up towards a final objective in the form of the deus ex machina Catalyst?
>>750282431>So whatSo they're majorly, statistically, not there.>You're working off the grid in 2, and it's more edgyYes, and it shits the bed because of it>It's meant to be that wayI know, and it doesn't make it any better
A suicide mission is the kind of thing you build your last fucking game around so you don't have to write around it in the sequel!!!!
>>750282431>I didn't like how you became a Mary Sue in Mass Effect 3 though2 literally starts with Miranda going "Shepard's a hero, a bloody icon". 2 started the meme that Shepard was Jesus Christ. 2 had him go from regular human to someone that performed retardedly legendary things like headbutting krogan or COMING BACK FROM THE FUCKING DEAD.
People keep saying the world got fleshed out more in two and I do not fucking see it. WHAT got fleshed out? There there are apperantly only 3 mercenary groups in the entire galaxy? The terminus systems are just a lose collection of random planets also populated by council races for some reason???
>>750282539What about my post seems fake to you? I'm just stating what my overall opinion is on them in retrospective here. I think their downfall goes way back even to the peak of their most iconic IP's popularity. Between ME2 and ME3 they were pretty much at their height as a company and ME could do no wrong (until it did). Unlike most normies that think the series was only bad with the ending of ME3 I say this is bullshit because it started even with ME2. The series has always had plenty of issues. The overall themes and lore can be really cool to get into but it was never fully fleshed out properly.Basically Bioware was probably never all that great. Also a bot would not call you a nigger, nigger. Stop being such a schizo.
>>750282515>It retcons the council from ME1.It doesn't retcon the council. Before they added Genesis DLC for the PS3 version and ported it to PC, they originally start the game with Illusive Man and Miranda addressing what happened to the Council, and revealing that "now there's a human-controlled council" if you sacrificed Destiny Ascension in ME1. Then throughout the game they give a few more nods to that, and you can also meet the Council and get the infamous "Ah yes, the Reapers" exchange if you saved them. Then you play ME3 and there's just a Neo-council if they did in ME1, and nobody says anything about a "human-controlled council" or "human-only council" or anything of the sort anymore, and Udina is the councilor and that also isn't said outloud why Anderson retired, but apparently it's in Mass Effect Retribution, the last book by Drew. They didn't really retcon the council. They just made them treat the Reapers like real politicians treats the COP meetings or climate change, and believe it or not, during the writing of ME2 the writers also drifted around the idea that maybe the Council was indoctrinated.I think some fans took the council dialogue as meaning "BioWare is getting cold feet on the Reapers" and granted, I did think at the time "how the fuck are they going to DEPICT the Reapers in the final game?" (which to their credit, that's the 1 thing 3 does really well)But I can superficially see that, but I never took it that way. I just took it as "there's an additional layer of plot about Shepard crying wolf, and the Galaxy's political establishment being too career minded to actually acknowledge it". Because there's a sense that the seat of politics is about power, and the Council is ultimately also just a bunch of figureheads who aren't worth working with regarding the Reaper invasion. They could've done it differently and showed all Citadel members preparing like americans prepare for a Tornado warning. But eh. To me this is small stuff.
>>750282683Through ME2, the game implies that you shouldn’t fully trust TIM, but what I think was retarded in ME3 was that in ME2, he was morally grey and made good points, whereas 3 just turned him into space Hitler and didn’t even give you the option to side with him even if you backed him during ME2.
>>750282984>It doesn't retcon the councilPic related.
>>750282486Please say sike.
>>750283031>"in ME2, he was morally grey and made good points">so yeah Shepard please ignore us kidnapping humans and experimenting on them to turn them into thorian creepers>also that whole thing we did a decade ago with Jack and all the other kids? Testing Mengele-tier shit biotics on them and killing when it didn't work out? Never happened>also understand the only way to let the autist make contact with the geth was to pierce his arms with four tubes and graft pieces of metal directly into his skin for... reasons. It was all very scientifical, I assure you>something something different cells now go grab the IFF I put a bunch of dudes inside a Reaper and they all went mad and died and turned into husks lol
>>750282880Again, I didn't mind Shepard being given recognition for the end of ME1 as a "hero". That's not making him a Mary Sue. Now, in hindsight everybody was right about the Space Jesus thing, and it is extremely ridiculous that they all went "1 man!" about reviving just 1 person with a bleeding edge miracle project, because Shepard is awesome!!11 but eh.Nothing wrong with them actually saying that Shepard is special goods who you really want to work with, or people wanting an autograph on the Citadel. You did actually spearhead the final battle of ME1 by accident, even if it's not very public from the player's POV. You can KIND OF say Shepard fought and killed Sovereign, and if that's how the Council spun it that's great. Cerberus probably knows everything, that Shepard actually found out about the hidden relay and Prothean knowledge, and beat Saren at his own game by catching up to his plot and all that, so it's not nonsense that they're impressed by Shepard.
>>750282815I feel like your performance in the Suicide Mission is the most consequential series of choices you make in the franchise. A lot of events in ME3 change dramatically depending on who lives or dies in the suicide mission.
>>750283068I know. And that sucks, but that scene was an afterthought. I know that's me making a cop-out answer, but literally everything in that final dialogue feels like they had no idea where it was going next, and just needed some sort of bravado sounding final dialogue to make us feel great. And it's also entirely possible the Council flipflopped on the Reapers, which is again a very real thing you can find examples of high profile political leaders doing just in the last 10 years on big subjects. It only adds to it, that they say this to Shepard's face, and then 2 years later once Shepard was KIA, it turns out they've changed the public narrative, and won't indulge Shepard in any of it.
>>750283175And it lead to most of the characters from 2 getting shafted in 3 because they now had to write around them possibly being dead
>>750283137>I didn't mind Shepard being given recognition for the end of ME1 as a "hero".But he doesn't. Half the galaxy doesn't know who he is, the other half doesn't care. Those are the actual actions, but the narrative and Cerberus specifically just constantly suck his cock for being an action man, over the actual grounded individual with Spectre status he was in ME1.
>>750283236>And that sucksIt does.>butNo 'buts' for me.
Plenty of well received games have bad endings that didn't kill their studio
>>750283175I wouldn't exactly say so, as most of those moments play out exactly the same but with alternative dialogue in 3, or replacement characters saying nearly the same things so that the other dialogue participant can respond with literally the same thing... but I do feel that having the game commit to characters being dead or not, is really strong just by carrying it through. And then 3 has just a handful of moments where Shepard gets introspective and actually says the name of some of the people that died. That stuff is really effective because what it does is that it adds the weight of "friends that died in the story" to the roleplaying of your own story in this movie-narrative where, as with a lot of good dramatic film, some characters die and raises the stakes along the way.
>>750283291This is the sad cost of that decision... but I swear at one point in some form, maybe in my next lifetime, there will be a video-game doing almost the same thing and actually miraculously having the proper time/budget/genius to show the follow-up working where those being alive/dead actually has a serious impact. And I feel like the impact should actually be stronger if they lived. Don't just show them say hi. Make a part of the plot about where they've been, and introduce a plot element that "changes everything" entirely because they're alive, and then if they're dead, there's a whole other development in the story, or maybe you lose the trust of another returning character that survived, because one of the ones that died on you made them feel resentful that you couldn't protect them or something. They should've had the balls to fully exclude just a few ME2 characters from 3 just to manage it. I could've honestly done without Grunt. He was one of the weaker ME2 characters and his "moment" in 3 felt really forced.
>>750283539>This is the sad cost of that decision... but I swear at one point in some form, maybe in my next lifetime, there will be a video-game doing almost the same thing and actually miraculously having the proper time/budget/genius to show the follow-up working where those being alive/dead actually has a serious impact. That is literally never going to happen because that would take two to three games worth of writing to create a single game. That's not even considering the amount of work that would be required should they want to follow that up. Did not read the rest. Send post
>>750283420>still seething about TLJ
>>750283380They did take some shortcuts yes (3 having a fake data Legion if Legion died probably being the most lazy and cheap), but I’ve never seen another vidya franchise commit to the player’s choices across multiple games to that degree. 3 gets a lot wrong, but it also has some genuinely great moments. The Genophage arc, the Quarian-Geth arc and Anderson’s death were basically perfect and couldn’t have been done any better.
>>750283647Tell me the comparison is not apt as fuck.
>>750283420This is very autistic. Can you please translate what you are trying to say?
>>750283654I like all the little ways you can end up fighting your squadmates in 3 ie if you sell Legion to Cerberus in 2 and don't rescue Jack in Grissom Academy, they're both special enemies in Cronos Station.
>>750283726ME1 didn't have a stupid post credits cliffhanger though
>>750283420kek
>>750283420ME2 is the better game. Eat shit.
>>750283840Nah
>>7502838161's cliffhanger is shown right there in the webm. It's Shepard going "the Reapers are still out there and I'm gonna find a way to stop them", as the galaxy is his oyster and his ship is most definitely not set up to be blown up and him ending up dead a month after 1 ends. The scene at the end of TFA isn't post-credits either, Star Wars doesn't do those
>>750283654>The great genophage retcon and Pinocchio guest starring the geth are perfectPlease put the crack pipe away
>>750283654Same here, so I can't complain in terms of having nothing else to compare to but Witcher 2 and 3, which is wayyyy minimalistic compared to this, but I was still really disappointed. What can I say?It was their job making these games to sell us on the illusion of choice. Nothing can ever be exactly as we make it to happen, because all has to be pre-designed and pre-planned by the people putting in the creative work, and then the player is able to trigger those permutations. And i get it, they didn't actually sketch out these choices into a roadmap, and they didn't even have an idea where the plot was really going from game to game, but...I felt like 3 breaks with the illusion that the choices have real impact. And maybe a few things did so in 2, but to me 2 actually impressed me hugely and near consistently with actually referencing things I had done in 1. They don't change anything, except there's actually a number of dead or alive characters in 2 that shifts the mood. Several people on Zakera Ward start bemoaning you if you killed the Council before, and so many side-quests in ME1 have the character reaeppear and refer to the way you ended the side-quest.And they found a great balance there. In 3 the only thing that actually kind of impressed me other than the Maelon's data bit, was Conrad Verner and Jenny from ME1, because if you helped Jenny out in ME1, she shows up during Conrad Verner's cameo in 3, and then there's like a whole extra thing to his reappearance, and that both surprised me and it felt like real continuity in a way so many parts of 3 doesn't.Overall i just felt like 3 was checking off a list. It was not acknowledging what I did to tell me that it still matters. It was bringing stuff to my face and directly telling me how "this doesn't REALLY matter", like another ME2 character showing up to be asked "Can't you join me?" only to go "Actually, I'm busy" or something.
>>750283840+1
>>750283637You're wrong.That's all for now.
>>750284237Check yourself into a psych ward before you hurt yourself and/or other please and thank you
>>750284310Eat. Literal. Shit!
>>750284123I think a lot of this could have been resolved by increasing the number of party members. At least bringing back more of the party members that are romancable. The Tali, Liara, and Garrus romances get a 10/10 conclusion, but the rest feel phoned in. Especially if you romance a character who can’t make it to the final battle.
>>750273421Waifu discussion is just the loudest, but I always found that there is a clear difference between the world building from sources like the codex and from ingame dialogue and so on, and that was a really weakening point on ME lore. For example:>The Terminus Systems are located on the far side of the Attican Traverse, beyond the space administered by the Citadel Council or claimed by the human Systems Alliance. It is populated by a loose affiliation of minor species, united only in their refusal to acknowledge the political authority of the Council or adhere to the Citadel Conventions. >Their independence comes at a price; the Terminus is fraught with conflict. War among the various species is common, as governments and dictators constantly rise and fall. The region is a haven for illegal activities, particularly piracy and the slave trade. >At least once a year, a fleet from Terminus invades the nearby Attican Traverse. These attacks are typically small raids against poorly-defended colonies. The Council rarely retaliates, as sending patrols into the Terminus Systems could unify the disparate species against their common foe, triggering a long and costly war. Oh, so is the Terminus system a lawless place where dictators rise and fall, lots of polities and many species we don't see in the Citadel call their home? Nope, it's mostly Omega and Aria is its 'owner'. We saw the Vorcha, the Colectors and that's it.
>>750284446For me, it's how shields don't exist in 99% of cutscenes.
>>750284443I agree. And we know from some publically shown stuff that Tali originally was treated like Mordin/Legion in the game but Patrick Weekes insisted she should come with us, and they let him do that entirely on his own (with some designer help ofc) by saying "That's gonna be a lot of work for you. Think you can do it?" and he took saturdays off to get it made.So literally all that was missing to have that happen throughout the game was more budget (time/money) and people... and people who knew to fight the tone at the top of BIoWare essentially being like "aaaah we don't care anymore" for most of the project.
>>750284519Tbf, that’s video game logic in general. It’s why no one really questions it when a character can tank 20 gun shots in gameplay, but dies to one in a cutscene.
>>750284519Armor also, for the most part.
>>750284378You'd like that wouldn’t you, faggot
>A thread actually criticizing a videogame franchise without being just a bunch of copypasted political bulletpoints taken from Twitter and Pepe Gigachack Wojack posting. Why you people can't be like this all the time?
>>750284443Damn its almost like having to write around the suicide mission was a massive burden or something
>>750283950>The scene at the end of TFA isn't post-credits either, Star Wars doesn't do thoseYes it is JJ, just because you didn't put three lines of credits doesn't stop it from being a tacked on "NEXT TIME ON STAR WARS" epilogue that breaks the flow of the end of the movie. The ME1 equivalent would be the Normandy about to be attacked by the Collector ship and then it cuts to black
We didn't know how good we had it
>>750282415It might just turn out RPG fans are insane fanatics so anything they glaze sounds bigger and better than it really is
>>750285164>Yes it isQuite literally isn't.
>>750285081Those are tourists from pol/xitter, same for the left-pol redditors. Some of us actually play games.
Mass Effect was always torn by two disparate plots that conflicted with each other. 1 ignores it, 2 avoids it, 3 confronts it and breaks. 1) The main Reaper plot, where Shepard is on a countdown clock to save the galaxy. He has to figure out a way to fight an armada of skyscraper sized immortal spaceships with mind control powers in a game about being a 3 man squad on the ground. A stupid McGuffin like the Crucible was pretty much the only way this was ever going to end, even the Conduit is kind of a stupid McGuffin. 2) The side-quest narratives, where Shepard is an operative tackling deadly but smaller scale problems. This suits the gameplay much better, because it is just Shepard applying their combat skill and authority against humanoid foes like pirates, cultists, mechs, etc. Or just talking things out with people. For the most part the sidequests are basically written as if the Reaper plot doesn't exist, and vice versa. The entire time since you touch the beacon in ME1 you are "racing against time", and the game even reminds you of it constantly. I remember in an elevator Garrus went something like "Great, we finally have the evidence to nail Saren" and Wrex replied "yeah but that entire time we were fucking with Fist, Saren was advancing his goals". Then I went and did Shiala's questline which in context of the main plot is a massive waste of time. But these quests were fun, flavorful, added to the setting and often presented the most interesting moral dilemmas (something kinda dropped in 2 and 3 were it's pragmatic asshole vs optimist good guy).
>>750285081They're currently too busy shitposting about Lucia or about Liara having wrinkles in a game that doesn't even exist anymore.
>>750285239IMO, BioWare’s biggest writing problem was their juvenile morality where things were clear cut good and evil with no complexity. They tried to do a bit more moral ambiguity with the Paragon and Renegade system, but even then by the time ME3 rolled around, it had basically devolved into a good vs. evil system.
Miranda pisses me off. Her story should have been about the moral ambiguity of being THE ILLUSIVE MAN'S NUMBER TWO instead of her wierd ass thing with her dad and sister. Where's the mission where she asks for your help cleaning up and old op thats come back to haunt her, and she's forced to aknowlage cerberus may not be the good guys? Nope, they needed to pretend like there was some ambiguity to cerberus before they go back to being Omega Hitler in 3, rendering all the wishy washing about them in 2 totally pointless
>>750285320It's a marvel post credits scene. Star Wars movies end when the music swells and the characters look on to the future.
>>750285717It's alright to be wrong anon, you don't have to save face about it.
>>750271462I would celebrate, but they will just burn through another studio and another after and nothing will change.Remember, they work off speculative economics. They have infinite money. Only the goyim deal in the real world.

>>750271462ME 2 and DA 2 were already dogshit rushed out the door. Bioware died the moment they got bought by EA.
>>750285692Miranda is a mostly decent character, but she always felt kind of like a coomerbait character to me. Her whole insecurity is about how she’s hot and perfect and has daddy issues, plus she has a pornstar-tier ass.
>>750271462>Crazy to realize that BioWare would've been around and one of the greatest developers of the 2020s if they had only made a different ending for Mass Effect 3.Most of the backlash came from /v/. The majority of players were OK with the original endingS.

>>750286047If you don't bring her along for the final fight (like I originally didn't) it makes even less sense. I was legitimately surprised when I ran into her in 3 and she said her and the illusive man had had a falling out.
>>750276392Anon, he's not talking about the plot of the mission. He's referring to the fact that they're using thermal clips despite the fact that they've not only been isolated for 20 years, the galactic adoption of thermal clips is a very recent thing.

It's a fantastic criticism to focus on in the "Why the FUCK does it have to be GEARS OF WAR" or the conversation in general about AAA games being overly homogenized under the oversight of large publishers. But like... c'mon.

>>750289185I know, but people sure talk a lot about the Thermal Clips.I know it's ultimately a spiritual thing.>Why did they not just CONTINUE THE THINGAnd yeah... they kinda should have, but then I guess I'm part of the problem because like...I was building my friend a new PC in 2009 and asked to download a PC game to test on it, and I just heard "Mass Effect" was good, so we got that and tested it on his GTX 260 and I thought it was nifty enough but after the first 2 hours we were like "Bro this game kinda sucks" and I legitimately didn't look back because on one hand it just reminded me of Halo "but lame", and on another it was like a story-RPG but I had seen better cinematics and I didn't care for games where you shoot guns but the aiming goes crazy if your "Accuracy" stat is low, like what's that about it almost makes no sense to me. So I kinda thought it was lame. Then I saw Mass Effect 2 on GameTrailers.com in their little Flash player before YouTube really took off, in their "HD 720p 30fps" footage, from the E3 demos. And it was like>Bruv!!>Headshots tear the heads off mechs now>You can shoot the arms>Look at the graphics, so slick!!>It looks COOL!And then I had to play 'Mass Effect 2' in January 2010, on my little horrible laptop. And so I started ME2 and it was the coolest game I had played in a long while, even though Uncharted 2 was the year before, but 1 hour into it I felt like words flew over my head and I was like "I HAVE to play ME1 first" so I bought that, and played it finally. And it was good, but I really just played it so I could play Mass Effect 2, because it looked so cool. And i ended up enjoying it as an appetizer for the "Main Game", and I fucking LOVED Mass Effect 2, dude. Now that it had the entire context of the first game, and my save data -- holy shit, dude. And I'd have never had that experience if they just made a boring ass sequel to ME1 where it's still a geek-RPG with aiming made for autsists who wanna roll dices.

ME3 ending, while it didn't reflect player choice enough, so I understand that criticism, is one of my favorite ending to a series ever. I don't care if their social media manager who has probably never even played video games before posted that the indoctrination theory isn't real. If I wrote a game with an ending like that, I wouldn't want to confirm it either. The ambiguity is what makes it special. The ending to ME3 literally makes no sense unless you consider the indoctrination theory. It is a really cool ending, despite the fact that it left me not knowing what the hell just happened after I initially played it until I went on forums to see what people were talking about.

>>750290580It's just fucking awful. The entire series with variety of choices ends with a retarded pick your ending out of three. And all three were more or less stupid.Galaxy doomed with Mass Relays destroyed.Your team mates stranded in some shitty planet for eternity.Catalyst makes no sense. Then they tried to put a band aid on it with their enhanced ending which does not fix any of the major issues. And then they added fuck you fans option with refusing to obey Catalyst.Retconning the whole game was the only way to salvage the mess they made.I still don't understand why they designed the ending that way.Was it lack of time, did they try to make sequels more easily doable because having loads of actually different endings based on your earlier choices would have made that impossible or were they just braindead?
>>750291434I can handle someone thinking that the ending was bad even with the indoctrination theory, but you have to be retarded to think it's not true. Most people are fucking retarded and that's why popular opinion is against it when it was obviously what was happening at the end.

ME3's multiplayer still had a playerbase for a long time, but MEA's player count dropped really fast, because the game was ass, so the lack of long term sales and the lack of a player base killed the DLC, not the initial day 1 sales

>>750273945yes, the writing went to absolute garbageEA had moved Drew Karpyshyn, the writer of ME1, to work on a MMORPG of all things, while Casey Hudson, a complete retard devoid of any writing talent whatsoever, killed Mass Effect by turning a space adventure into muh evil Private Military Corporation, Cerberus! Cerberus! Cerberus!, led by this shitty morally ambiguous man. The direction this hack took the series could take place completely on earth, this is why ME2 feels smaller. The scope of the game is much smaller nevermind the whole retarded asspulled race that didn't help the other Reaper in the previous game, and then got collectively exterminated. The whole game revolves around this shitty Cerberus thing, oh no I don't want to work for you morally ambiguous cliche man, except the game forces you to be his bitch and the most you can do is a snarky comment. Destroy unlocks first and in its worst iteration, fucks up the galaxy the most not to mention forces the death of EDI and the geth on you. It's also associated with Red so most mouthbreathers will think = Renegade = Bad. You've then got Control the narration for which changes the most compared with Hackett and EDI, because the Shepard AI is based on Shepard the human and so the specifics of your character, their morality and their major choices throughout the game shape the monologue. Then there's Synthesis which unlocks the latest, gets the unique color, the central corridor and is the most "bullshit magic" of the bunch aka the normie bait... but then Destroy is thrown a bone with the breathing scene as a final, hidden unlock. It's pretty neat.
>>750273945ME1 was the beginning of the endShould have had each game been about independent galactic problems (Genophage Cure, Geth and Quarian War, Cerberus, Etc) making the plot focus on the reapers was a mistake. Should have had ME2 been about the collectors as just a threat without the reapers to back them up. The first human spectre running around space was a solid enough premise on it's own and it could have had an entire series around it.
>>750309689>it could have had an entire series around itIt did. It's not just story it's a matter of tone.>no but more!No I'm saying mass effect 1-3 should have been completely rewritten at the concept stage to be about Shepard the spectre (also still officially in the alliance and not a cyborg) running around dealing with specific key problems in the galaxy without reapers. >>750309689>Should have had ME2 been about the collectors as just a threat without the reapers to back them up. I always felt like the plots of ME2 and ME1 should have been reversed, with Shepard starting out getting blindsided by the collectors, recruited by cerberus, going on an adventure recruiting your new companions, then at the very end you defeat the collectors and uncover new information about this whole 'reaper' thing. Then the sequel starts off with Shepard uncovering the prothean beacon, fighting Saren, talking to Sovereign and so on. Then ME3 would have remained all about the fight between the reapers and the rest of the galaxy. I hate how the entire plot to ME2 felt like a massive series of sidequests when the entire galaxy should have been prepping to fight an obvious incoming threat.
>>750311263Nah, ME2 should've been the Leviathan DLC but extended, thought through and incorporating the Collectors as the Leviathan's controlled minions. Then at the end when you infiltrate the Collector Base, EDI finds the unfinished blueprints for the Crucible.
